Report: Giants sign infielder Luis Arraez
Arraez is expected to play second base for the Giants, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, after playing most of 2025 at first base for the San Diego Padres.
An all-star in three consecutive years from 2022-24, Arraez is coming off one of the poorer seasons of his career with the Friars, hitting a career-worst .292.
Arraez led the league in batting average in each of his three all-star seasons. He won Silver Slugger awards in 2023 and ’24, hitting a career-best .354 in ’23.
Arraez played for the Minnesota Twins and Miami Marlins before being traded to the Padres in 2024.
While Arraez is known for being a high-average hitter, his numbers drop drastically in the post-season. In 70 October plate appearances between the Twins, Marlins and Padres, Arraez slashed .224/.246/.284.
Arraez joins a star-studded infield in San Francisco, featuring Rafael Devers, Matt Chapman, and Willy Adames. The Giants went 81-81 in 2025, missing the post-season for the fourth consecutive year.
