Rockies beat Orioles, end franchise-record 10-game home losing streak

TJ Rumfield homered in the seventh inning to break a tie and the Colorado Rockies beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-2 in Denver on Tuesday night.

Adael Amador also went deep and singled and Jake McCarthy and Brett Sullivan had two hits each for Colorado (53-86), which snapped a franchise-worst 10-game home losing streak.

It was 2-2 in the seventh when Mickey Moniak reached on an error by second baseman Jackson Holliday. One out later, Rumfield homered off Luis De Leon (0-1) to give the Rockies the lead. It was his 14th of the season.

Jaden Hill (1-3) pitched an inning of relief and Jordan Romano picked up his 14th save.

Holliday homered among his three hits for Baltimore (69-70), whose four-game winning streak ended. The Orioles fell 1 1/2 games behind Cleveland for the final wild-card spot in the American League.

Colorado initially went ahead with a two-out rally in the third inning against starter Kyle Bradish. Amador gave the Rockies a 1-0 lead with his second homer of the season, and Zac Veen nearly made it back-to-back home runs when he tripled off the top of the wall in right.

McCarthy singled up the middle to drive in Veen.

Bradish gave up two runs on six hits in five innings.

Baltimore got a run back in the fourth inning. Carlos Narvaez led off with a single and went to third on Pete Alonso’s one-out hit. Gunnar Henderson hit a sharp grounder to first that Rumfield snared and touched the bag for the out before getting Alonso in a rundown to end the inning.

Narvaez scored before Alonso was tagged out.

The Orioles threatened in the fifth when they loaded the bases with two outs to chase starter Gabriel Hughes. Brennan Bernardino came on to retire Henderson on a popout.

Hughes allowed one run on four hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Holliday evened things in the seventh with a two-out solo homer to right, his seventh of the season.
