MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Shannon Birchard has become just the fourth woman to win six Scotties Tournament of Hearts titles.

Her latest came on Sunday when Team Canada’s Kerri Einarson beat Manitoba’s Team Kaitlyn Lawes 4-3 in an extra end thriller.

Birchard joins Colleen Jones, Jennifer Jones and Jill Officer, who have also won six championships.

It’s something she couldn’t have even dreamt when she first started playing curling.

“It’s incredible, to get one in my career would’ve been a dream come true and this is just absolutely mind blowing a little bit,” Birchard said.

For the 31-year-old, she finds it crazy that she will now be mentioned in the same sentence as her childhood heroes.

“To be amongst some legends of this sport and people that I’ve looked up to for my entire life, it’s unbelievable,” she said.

Birchard won her first Scotties title with Jennifer Jones back in 2018 playing third with Officer on the team as well. Since then, she’s collected five more, all with Einarson playing the second position.

In 2025 Einarson finished runner up to Rachel Homan without Birchard on the team because of a knee injury that kept her out all season.

With Birchard back and better than ever now, Einarson knows just how great of a player she is and how much she was needed to earn yet another Scotties title.

“She’s amazing. We really missed her last season. Having her back this year, it’s pretty special,” Einarson said after winning her fifth Scotties title.

Birchard will now play in her fifth world championship – 2020 was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic – where she will try to win her second gold medal. She also has two bronze medals in the tournament, both with Einarson.
