Six Nations 2026: Same old story for sorry Wales against England

Published

on

France arrive in Cardiff next Sunday with Wales searching for a first Six Nations home win in four years.

The calamitous state of Welsh rugby means the WRU is struggling to sell out their three home games this year, with thousands of tickets still available for next weekend.

Tandy hopes Wales will receive the usual home backing.

“The fans have been amazing support for the team,” said Tandy.

“We know what it means to the boys to play in the Principality Stadium and the fans give them huge belief.”

Whether the Wales head coach will make changes remains to be seen as he balances reacting to an underwhelming display and the need to develop a settled side.

He says there would be no “knee-jerk reaction” and full-back Louis Rees-Zammit appears to have done enough to keep the number 15 jersey.

The former NFL triallist was making his first Six Nations appearance for almost three years and is settling into a new position after switching from the wing.

After a shaky start where he had an early kick charged down, Rees-Zammit settled down and produced one searing second-half break.

“He did well in his first start at 15 in a while for us,” said Tandy.

“In Test match rugby, there’s not much space but I thought he adapted with the aerial battles.

“He’s a big man and lit the game up in moments. It’s looking how we can get more of those moments.”

So maybe one thing for Welsh fans hold on to. There is currently not much more.

Tempted signals potent threat for 2026 autumn carnival

Published

on

Connections of glamorous three-year-old Tempted hold high hopes that she could outshine Bella Nipotina, who amassed almost $19 million and a memorable Everest victory over her exceptional career.

“She is pretty special,” trainer Ciaron Maher’s assistant, Johann Gerard-Dubord said.

“I would quote Craig Williams when he jumped off her after the Everest. He said, ‘I love Bella (Nipotina), but she might be even better’. That’s how good she could be.”

Her return triumph left little room for debate as the filly crushed her opposition in Saturday’s Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) at Randwick, following the leaders before powering away in a stylish manner.

Chad Schofield, aboard the $1.60 elect, geared back the filly late to claim victory by 1-1/4 lengths margin over Napoleonic ($6.50), as Wodeton ($5) charged home for third spot, beaten by another 1-3/4 lengths.

Tempted is yet to capture Group 1 glory but ended second to champion Ka Ying Rising in last spring’s The Everest (1200m), and according to Gerard-Dubord, she has come back in peak form.

“When you run second in the Everest as a spring three-year-old, and running through the line, you know you’ve got a pretty special horse,” he said.

“She came back looking magnificent. Last prep, it took her a couple of runs to clean up in the coat but this time, from day one when she came back, she couldn’t look any better.

“Everything has been very smooth. Her target is the Surround (Stakes) in three weeks, which is why we elected to run this week. She would have been better placed against the fillies next week, but the three-week gap works out better.”

After contesting the Surround Stakes (1400m), paths for Tempted are fluid, with the TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) a prominent choice under discussion.

“All options are open. She is just so talented, and she relaxes so well, distance won’t be an issue,” Gerard-Dubord said.

For his initial race mount on the filly, Chad Schofield recognised the small lineup could turn tactical and positioned to avoid any traps right away.

“My two dangers were drawn to my inside, and I knew they were not going to let me in easily. So, I pinged her out (of the barriers), got her across and I was able to just control the race,” Schofield said.

“That was a lot of fun. She’s an aeroplane, really.”

Her impressive result tees up a blockbuster encounter with leading filly Apocalyptic at the Surround Stakes. Punters can find value via the racing betting markets on the Eskimo Prince Stakes.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes sends message to Cole Palmer after his hat-trick for Chelsea in win over Wolve

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes sent a message to Cole Palmer after the Chelsea star’s stunning performance against Wolverhampton. The Englishman scored a hat-trick in the first half to help them seal a 3-1 win at Molineux.

Taking to Instagram after the game, Palmer posted a few photos and a cheeky two-word caption: ‘just enjoy’. The Chelsea star had his comment section filled with fans and players, praising him for his performance on his 100th start for the club.

One comment that stood out was from Fernandez, who was heaping praise on the Englishman. The Manchester United captain wrote ‘What a player’ with a clapping emoji amid rumors that Palmer was looking to move back to Manchester.

The Chelsea star commented on the performance as well, saying that he was delighted to have got on the scoresheet and collected three points. He said (via Football365):

“It feels good to get three points and score some goals. It was a good one in difficult conditions today. As long as I can keep scoring hat-tricks, I’m happy. I think we did well in the first half. The second half was a bit flat, but, personally, it feels good to get back on the scoresheet. I don’t really pay attention to milestones, but when you see them, it’s nice.”

“I’ve never been injured before in my career. This is something new to me, and I’m still finding out how to deal with it. It has been frustrating, I don’t feel like I’ve played a game this season fully fit. I’ve been going into games thinking, ‘Can I do certain things? Can I not?’ Overthinking it.”

Cole Palmer has been dealing with injury issues since coming off in the first half against Manchester United earlier this season.

Chelsea star Cole Palmer shuts down Manchester United talks

Reports earlier this season suggested that Cole Palmer was unhappy at Chelsea and was looking to move back to Manchester as he was ‘homesick’. Manchester United were reportedly looking to sign the Englishman, who has now dismissed the reports as ‘rubbish’ and said:

“Everyone loves to chat rubbish, don’t they? I don’t pay too much attention to it. You see things. But I feel like I’ve come from a strong place anyway, so I don’t pay attention to it.”

Manchester United and Chelsea are fighting for a top-4 place this season, with the Red Devils sitting in fourth, a point above the Blues after 25 matches.
