Team USA are world champions once again.
The Americans defeated France 97-79 in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup final in Berlin to win their fifth consecutive World Cup title and their 12th overall.
It was not an easy start for the defending champions. France raced into a 14-point lead, but the USA fought back before taking control in the second half.
Breanna Stewart led the way with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Caitlin Clark also played a key role as the Americans pulled away in the third quarter.
The victory gives Team USA 36 consecutive wins at the Women’s World Cup and extends their unbeaten run in major international competition to 20 years.
The fifth straight title also puts the USA alongside the Soviet Union, who won five consecutive women’s World Cup championships from 1959 to 1975, as the only teams to achieve that feat.
