On February 1, KATSEYE took the Grammy stage with a high-energy performance of their track Gnarly during the Best New Artist category. The group delivered a version built around movement and visual impact while adjusting select lyrics for the live broadcast. In the updated lines, the original Tesla mention was replaced with robotics to suit the televised setting.
Alongside this change, the routine featured an extended dance break that pushed beyond the studio cut. Online responses followed quickly after the broadcast. Reactions remained divided across platforms, with some viewers applauding the girls’ confidence. Others, however, criticized the performance, with one X user commenting,
“Katseye think this is inkigayo.”
The girls’ appearance follows two first-time nominations, including Best New Artist and Best Pop Duo Group Performance for Gabriela. Many questioned their performance song choice over Gabriella, suggesting it was selected due to live vocal difficulty. Others expressed “embarrassment” over Gnarly, wondering why such a track was picked to perform at the affair.
Meanwhile, many fans praised the performance as the night’s standout.
KATSEYE heads to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon after historic Grammy debut
KATSEYE is moving from the Grammy spotlight to late-night television next week. On February 4th, the sextet will make their first appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon shortly after their Grammy debut. The appearance is scheduled for Wednesday night at 11:35 pm ET. It translates to 12:35 pm KST the next day. The episode will air on NBC and stream the next day on Peacock.
During the show, the group will sit down with Jimmy Fallon for an interview. During Wednesday’s interview, the girl group is expected to reveal details linked to an “exciting new partnership,” as teased by the show. Fans known as EYEKONS had already been anticipating the Tonight Show announcement after Fallon appeared online eating a raw zucchini, a clear nod to lyrics from the group’s recent track Internet Girl.
Later, in the comments, KATSEYE’s official Instagram account responded to the clip, writing, “What’s the word?? 👀” The same episode will also feature appearances from Ethan Hawke and Myles Garrett, along with a musical performance by Nick Jonas.
Meanwhile, a quiet offstage moment from KATSEYE’s Grammy performance drew attention when Lara’s father was seen FaceTiming Sophia’s father, Godfrey, so he could watch the performance live. The interaction marked a memorable moment for the HYBE group during the Grammy showcase.
