Updated IPL 2026 Points Table After Punjab Kings’ Five-Wicket Win Over Chennai Super Kings
Skipper Shreyas Iyer’s half-century draped in elegance and aggression in equal measure was the centrepiece in Punjab Kings’ five-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings in their IPL match in Chennai on Friday. Shreyas (50, 29 balls) and his 59-run alliance with Nehal Wadhera for the fourth wicket helped Punjab end up at 210 for five while chasing a competitive 209 on a dew-less Chepauk night, also consigning the hosts to their second successive defeat. It was Punjab’s second win on the trot, but there were other heroes too on the night for the PBKS.
Chasing a target at a run-rate closer to 11 required consistent and calm run-making and that was what PBKS precisely did through their top-order, with just about everyone chipping in.
Priyansh Arya (39, 11 balls), Prabhsimran Singh (43, 34b), Cooper Connolly (36, 22b) all came up with mentionable contributions.
Arya was quite brutal while vandalising CSK attack – Khaleel Ahmed was put away for a 4 and six while Matt Henry was dispatched for 4, 6, 4 in his first over that leaked 20 runs.
Arya and Prabhsimran cracked 61 runs in just 4.2 overs that gave a strong portend to the route the match was taking.
The Delhi batter was cleaned up by Henry to give a token relief to CSK, but none was more significant in PBKS’s march than their skipper Shreyas, who unfurled his full range of shots.
Shreyas started a bit slow reaching 8 off 9 balls, as Connolly was doing the bulk of the work. But once the Australian fell to Anshul Kamboj, Shreyas took over the chase.
As expected, he hammered the spinners, and the shot of the innings was an inside-out six off leg-spinner Rahul Chahar.
Shreyas brought up his fifty in 26 balls with a boundary off Kamboj, but soon fell to the bowler, chasing a wide delivery.
Wadhera fell in the first ball of the next over to Henry as PBKS slipped to 186 for five from 186 for three.
However, that proved a minor aberration.
Earlier, Ayush Mhatre showcased his abundant talent with a 43-ball 73, powering the Super Kings to a competitive 209 for five.
Mhatre and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (28) added 96 runs for the second wicket after Sanju Samson returned to the hut early.
Samson inexplicably moved down to the leg-side and tried to cart Xavier Bartlett’s out-swinger over covers, but all he could manage was a healthy edge to Prabhsimran behind the wicket.
But his dismissal proved a minor jitter, as Mhatre tore apart Punjab’s bowling with power and precision.
Pacer Bartlett was the aggrieved party early as Mhatre smashed him for three fours in a row – a loft through mid-wicket, a flick and a pull. His audacity helped CSK reach 57 for one in the Power Play.
Mhatre seemed to have put behind, at least for now, his issues against short-pitched balls, as the Mumbai young man later pulled Marco Jansen for a six.
Mhatre also punished Marcus Stoinis for two sixes in a row – both down the ground – and the first maximum also fetched his fifty in 29 balls.
But he shrugged a bit against the guiles of Yuzvendra Chahal, failing to read him well.
The veteran leg-spinner foxed Mhatre, 17 years younger to him, with a series of googlies, but fortune was not in favour of the former.
On 59, Mhatre was dropped by Vijayakumar Vyshak inside the circle and later on 67 by Shahshank Singh in the deep.
But luck eventually ran out as Mhatre’s attempt to steer Vyshak ended in the hands of Chahal at short third man, as both of them got their own piece of revenge.
Gaikwad was ousted by Chahal as CSK’s march dulled a bit between 10th and 15th overs, making just 45 runs.
Sarfaraz Khan (32, 12 balls) tried to instil some urgency into CSK innings while playing his trademark dabs and close-to-body shots for a flurry of boundaries.
But that knock coupled with a few strong hits by Shivam Dube (45, 27b) helped CSK eke out 64 runs in the last five overs, but that proved insufficient.

Sam Bennett has points in three straight, including a goal in the Boston game. With 57 points (26 goals, 31 assists), he could top Reinhart as the team’s leading scorer in the final couple of weeks. Reinhart has 61 points, leading the team in both goals (29) and assists (32).
The Panthers may also get one of their injured players back for Saturday as the team reported forward Cole Schwindt is expected to return to action. He has not played since Feb. 26 due to a lower-body injury.
Saturday’s game marks the first of back-to-back games between the two teams, both in Pittsburgh. The Penguins (38-22-16, 92 points) look to rebound after losing 6-3 on the road to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday. The Penguins, who have missed the playoffs in each of the last three seasons, currently sit in second place in the Metropolitan Division and would get first-round home-ice advantage if they stay in that spot. However, the New York Islanders are three points behind in third place, and the Columbus Blue Jackets are in fourth place, but with 88 points, they do not currently hold a playoff spot.
After the two home games with Florida, Pittsburgh will play at New Jersey, have a home-and-home with Washington and end the regular season at St. Louis. None of those teams currently sit in a playoff spot, but coach Dan Muse does not want to see his team ease up down the stretch.
“We have to turn the page quick,” Muse said after the loss to the Lightning. “There’s not going to be any easy games. Every game, every day is going to have a new challenge, and none of them are going to be easy this time of year.”
Sidney Crosby leads the team with 67 points (28 goals, 39 assists), but he has not scored a goal in seven games. His last goal came on March 18, his first game back after suffering an injury playing for Team Canada in the Olympics. Earlier, Patidar praised Virat Kohli as the team’s top “chase master.” He said he has always admired Kohli’s batting and enjoys watching him from the dugout, highlighting his shot selection and ability to read match situations as particularly impressive.
Kohli played a match-winning, unbeaten knock of 69 off 38 deliveries, including five fours and as many sixes, against Sunrisers Hyderabad, helping the defending champions chase down the fastest 200-plus target in IPL history. Bengaluru chased down the 202-run target in just 15.4 overs in the IPL 2026 opener.
“Virat Kohli is our number one chase master, as we all know. I have always admired his batting, and watching him bat from the dugout-the way he played his shots and assessed the situation-was really good to see,” Patidar told reporters.
Patidar also lauded RCB speedster Jacob Duffy as a skilled T20 specialist, saying the team has full confidence in him and that his bowling performance and execution have been excellent.
“He’s a specialist T20 bowler, and we have a lot of confidence in him. That’s why we’ve given him a chance. The way he’s delivering and showcasing his skills has been tremendous,” he added.

NEW DELHI: Punjab Kings registered an impressive five-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings in their IPL 2026 clash at Chepauk, chasing down a big target of 210 with confidence. Despite CSK putting up a strong total, PBKS handled the pressure better and sealed their second straight victory of the season.After being put in to bat, CSK built their innings around a solid partnership between Ayush Mhatre and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Mhatre was the standout performer, scoring a fluent 73 off 43 balls with a mix of boundaries and sixes.In the later stages, Sarfaraz Khan played a quick cameo, smashing 32 off just 12 balls, while Shivam Dube remained unbeaten on 45, finishing the innings strongly. “I know Rodtang has a lot of power. Takeru has to fight smarter and keep his hands higher.
“If he’s smart and moves a lot, he just has to avoid the power shots of Rodtang. Move out, move in, move out, move in. Then, he can win – not easily, but he can win.”
When Rodtang and Takeru first collided at ONE 172 in March 2025, the fight never had the opportunity to evolve. A brief exchange quickly escalated before the Thai’s trademark power ended the tilt almost instantly.
That abrupt finish left little room for adjustments or strategy to take shape. It is precisely the kind of scenario Eersel believes must be avoided if the former three-division K-1 Champion hopes to even the score, win the belt, and retire on top.
The Dutch-Surinamese kingpin added:
“It takes a lot of conditioning and drilling to have that kind of game plan. It’s a little bit like I did with Alexis [Nicolas] the second time – move out, move in, move out, move in. If you fight like that, you get away from the danger.
“If not, if you’re going to stand and bang. That’s Rodtang’s game. Then, you’re not going to make it out.”
Eersel speaks from experience. In his own rivalry with the French kickboxer, the 33-year-old made the necessary adjustments in their ONE Lightweight Kickboxing World Title rematch in October 2024 to avenge an earlier defeat, relying on disciplined movement and controlled engagements rather than prolonged exchanges.

Ultimately, he emerged victorious once again in their trilogy bout at ONE Fight Night 30 six months later.
That same approach, he suggests, could be the key for the “Natural Born Krusher.” Against a pressure fighter like Rodtang, maintaining distance and avoiding extended firefights is not just a strategy. It is a requirement.

“You have two scenarios because it’s for an interim title now. If Takeru moves around the whole five rounds, he can win. But if he stands toe-to-toe, he’s not going to make it. So, he has to avoid that kind of situation.”

Chase DeLauter rakes fifth home run in seventh career regular-season game as Guardians top Cubs in home opener
When Cleveland Guardians rookie right fielder Chase DeLauter fouled a Shohei Ohtani pitch off his back foot on Tuesday night, it looked like the 24-year-old himself might be the only one who could actually put a stop to his season-opening power surge.
After grounding out later in that at-bat, DeLauter left the game with a left foot contusion, and he didn’t play in the series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers the following day, although manager Stephen Vogt said DeLauter was supposed to be off regardless.

With negative X-rays, DeLauter was confident he’d return to the lineup for the Guardians’ home opener on Friday. He was back, and the same could be said for his seismic swing, which delivered another home run in a 4-1 win over the Chicago Cubs.
DeLauter has now hit five home runs over his first seven career regular-season games, tied for the second most in such a span since at least 1900, according to MLB researcher and reporter Sarah Langs.
The only player with more in that data set is Trevor Story, who scattered seven homers across the first seven games of his rookie season with the Colorado Rockies.

But starting pitcher Miali Guachino settled in to retire the next three hitters in order. That kicked off a run of nine straight Kentucky hitters retired by Guachino. The Wildcats’ next hit wouldn’t come until the fourth inning, a lead-off single from No. 2 hitter Allie Blum.

In the win, Guachino allowed just three hits over four innings, striking out three, to move to 11-0 on the season.
It didn’t take long for the Sooners to answer the first inning home run by Sleeman. In the bottom of the first, Lexi McDaniel and Ailana Agbayani earned two-out walks with the bases loaded to push across a pair of Oklahoma runs to retake the lead.
In the second inning, Oklahoma’s lineup went to work. Kendall Wells’ sacrifice fly moved Abby Dayton to third on a sacrifice fly, and Kasidi Pickering drove Dayton in on an infield single. Ella Parker doubled to drive in Gabbie Garcia to make it 4-1, and Lexi McDaniel’s two-RBI single made it 6-1 Sooners.
After a strong night hitting with two outs on Thursday, the Sooners picked up right where they left off with each of their first six runs coming with two outs on Friday.

In the third, Kendall Wells hit her 29th home run of the season, giving her eight home runs in 11 SEC contests in her true freshman season.
Fellow freshman McDaniel put Oklahoma in run-rule territory with a two-run home run, giving her five RBIs on the day. The home run was her ninth of the season. It was McDaniel’s first home run since March 11 against Tulsa.
With the win, the Sooners secured the series against the Wildcats. They’ll close the series with a Saturday morning contest vs. Kentucky, looking to complete the three-game sweep ahead of their series with the Texas Longhorns next weekend in Austin.
