Everything you need to know about Rico Lewis and his plans for the season after he spoke exclusively to the Manchester Evening News.
Rico Lewis has already been putting in the work to get ready for the coming season, having had time off after not being selected for the England squad at the World Cup.
His future is uncertain at City after struggling for game time last season, despite signing a new five-year deal at the Etihad in August 2025.
Nottingham Forest were one of the clubs looking to buy Lewis last summer and could return again, with a number of others also interested.
Lewis described last season for him personally as ‘exactly what I needed’ and says that game time is a priority for him this year.
The 21-year-old will report back to the City Football Academy on Monday and is expected to go on the summer tour to Asia in two weeks, where Enzo Maresca’s side play three fixtures before returning for the Community Shield against Arsenal.
Lewis will likely be a senior player on that tour as one of the few members of the first team who has not been at the World Cup this year. He can play at right-back or in midfield, but has expressed a preference for the latter.
He knows new coach Enzo Maresca, having broken into the first team during the 2022/23 season when the Italian was a first team coach. Maresca would do extra work with him after training sessions to make his transition to Guardiola’s squad easier.
Lewis has also had a busy summer off the pitch, recently getting married and also using his time to give back to the local community.
He spoke about everything he is doing and hoping to achieve in an exclusive interview with the Manchester Evening News – you can read it in full here.
