Manchester City swept aside Championship outfit Norwich in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Thursday night.
Manchester City made light work of their third round clash with Norwich on Thursday but Canaries boss Philippe Clement claims Blues players were ‘annoyed’ early in the game.
City swept aside their Championship opposition at the Etihad. A double from debutant Floyd Samba plus goals from Rayan Cherki, Allan and Ryan McAidoo handed Enzo Maresca’s side a convincing 5-0 victory.
The win sets up a fourth round tie with Manchester United’s conquerors Brighton, and although City never looked in danger of slipping up against Norwich, Clement insists Enzo Maresca’s men became agitated early in the game.
“The team played in a good structure, well organised, the boys were really disciplined,” Clement said of his side’s display. “After 20 minutes, Man City started to get a bit annoyed because they could not create anything but then you get the first goal against and we need to defend better.
“Then, on a transition, we get the second goal when we are a bit naive to step forward. Second half we were more dangerous and we scored a goal but just offside but in all the game everybody kept on fighting, working and was disciplined. I saw several good individual performances. But it is hard to take five goals. Six shots on target, five goals.”
Asked about the difference between the two sides at the Etihad, Clement added: “That is this level, that is why they are here and they don’t play Norwich. I saw a lot of good things and we need to look at our side.
“We know Man City has a really good squad. We knew that before. Norwich showed a good face but the result is too big for me.”
The exact date for City’s clash with Brighton has yet to be confirmed but the fourth round matches will take place on the week commencing 26 October.
