Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton strains other calf, return unclear
Out recovering from a calf strain since late April, the 36-year-old New York Yankees slugger strained his other calf while running, manager Aaron Boone told reporters on Saturday.
“We’re not ruling anything out. He’ll obviously continue to work to try to get it right and hopefully be available but obviously, we’re at a point in the calendar where it gets challenging, but you also never know,” Boone said.
Stanton has appeared in only 24 games this season, hitting .256/.302/.422 with three home runs and 14 RBIs.
The Yankees entered Saturday sitting just three games back of the Tampa Bay Rays for top spot in the American League East. They hold the No. 1 AL wild-card spot.
