1,100HP Genesis X Skorpio Concept Looks Like a Scorpion Striking the Sand, Literally
Genesis has introduced the X Skorpio Concept, a beast capable of charging across even the most harsh deserts with far more power than expected, as well as a generous dose of refinement. This off-road creation represents a daring new path for the company, combining a wealth of high-performance expertise with a level of luxury typically found exclusively on smooth roads.
The X Skorpio, which was revealed in the endless sands of the Rub’ al Khali desert in the United Arab Emirates, is directly inspired by a black scorpion that lives in the region. The design team drew inspiration from the scorpion’s tough-as-nails toughness, mirroring it in the vehicle’s lines – arched up like a raised tail and segmented panels like an exoskeleton ready for fight. The bodywork is a clever combination of fiberglass, carbon fiber, and Kevlar panels that provide strength without adding weight, allowing you to withstand violent accidents and rapid repairs in the middle of nowhere.

Outside, a deep black surface with a subtle blue tint changes color when exposed to sunlight, giving it a metallic sheen that nearly appears to be alive. Genesis’s famous Two-Line lighting system is built directly into the headlamps, while four circular LED pods provide focus and an aggressive gaze. The high-clearance fenders stretch out to accommodate some huge rubber, and the roof-mounted air intake looks like a stinger, forcing air into the engine and slashing through the air like nothing.
This one is driven by a high-output V8 that produces 1,100 horsepower and an impressive 850 pound-feet of torque. The engine has a loud, distinct growl that’s ideal for high-speed runs in wide sand. It’s teamed with some very meaty 18-inch beadlock wheels wrapped in special 40-inch off-road tires designed for traction on uneven conditions and durability over extended distances. When you need to stop quickly, Brembo Motorsport brakes have your back, even if you’ve pushed the pedal hard a few times.
Suspension adjustment lifts the chassis high, providing ample ground clearance as well as approach and departure angles that make maneuvering obstacles a breeze. There’s even a full roll cage inside a tubular frame, as well as strengthened skid plates to protect the critical components below. Aerodynamically, the X Skorpio has been deliberately designed to cut through the air as smoothly as possible, whether you’re ascending a dune or landing off a jump.
Inside the cabin, and here is where the X Skorpio truly impresses, you’d expect a utilitarian vibe from an off-road vehicle, but Genesis has gone above and beyond to create this a place you want to spend time. The seats and controls are all ergonomically engineered to keep you focused when the roads get rough, and the climatronic system keeps you cool and prevents tiredness. The instrument cluster is positioned directly on the steering wheel, keeping everything in front of you while you drive. A large display can be slid down a track to position itself for solo driving or to share navigation with a passenger. The interior trim is done in a mix of suede, leather, matte and glossy finishes, which provides a very coherent look, and there are even grab handles and 4-point harnesses to add a bit of security.
