La chiusura dello Stretto di Hormuz da parte dell’Iran può causare una crisi economica globale.

Lo Stretto in apparenza può sembrare periferico, la sua importanza però dipende dal fatto che per quel pezzo di mare passa circa il 20% del gas e del petrolio consumati ogni anno nel mondo.

L’effetto è una crisi energetica globale che colpisce tutti i Paesi più dipendenti dalle importazioni di gas e petrolio, come anche l’Italia.

In Europa infatti nel giro di pochi giorni il prezzo dei futures sul gas è aumentato più del 50%. Quelli del petrolio più del 20%.

In questo caso però a differenza che con la crisi energetica del 2022 il continente a essere più colpito non è l’Europa ma l’Asia, in primis la Cina.

Il motivo è che circa l’80% del petrolio che passa dallo stretto è diretto proprio in Asia. La Cina poi, in particolare, nel 2025 era arrivata a comprare quasi il 90% di tutto l’export di petrolio iraniano. Sfruttando le sanzioni internazionali contro l’Iran, riusciva ad averlo a un prezzo scontato rispetto a quello dei mercati internazionali.

Questo, unito al fatto che la Cina comprava anche il 55% del petrolio esportato dal Venezuela significa un duro colpo per il settore energetico cinese.

L’incognita a inizio marzo 2026 è soprattutto per quanto tempo lo Stretto di Hormuz resterà chiuso o, comunque, non sicuro per le navi.
