This is What Philippine Money is Actually Made From?!
Did you know what Philippine money is really made of?
The older Philippine banknotes were made from a blend of 80% cotton and 20% abaca—a native plant fiber also used in barong fabric. This gave the notes a soft fabric-like texture and made them more durable.
The newer banknotes are now made of polymer—a type of plastic that’s tougher, water-resistant, and less likely to retain dirt or bacteria. That means they stay cleaner and last longer in circulation.
As for the coins, they are made from nickel-plated steel, giving them durability and a shiny appearance.
