Manchester United’s Dorgu set for spell on sideline with hamstring injury
Manchester United forward Patrick Dorgu is expected to miss several weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury during Sunday’s 3-2 victory over Arsenal.
The 21-year-old scored United’s second goal with a powerful strike from the edge of the area but was forced off late in the game. Interim head coach Michael Carrick initially suggested the issue could be cramp, but it has since emerged as a more serious problem.
Sources indicate the Denmark international is still undergoing assessment, with no definitive return date yet established.
Dorgu has been one of United’s standout performers in recent weeks.
Signed from Lecce 12 months ago as a wing-back, he has thrived in a more advanced role on the left under Carrick and also found the net in the recent win over Manchester City.
Manchester United have eight Premier League fixtures remaining before the March international break, during which Dorgu is expected to be involved with Denmark in World Cup play-off matches.
His absence could open the door for Matheus Cunha to take on a more prominent role.
The Brazilian has started United’s last two matches on the bench but made a decisive impact at the Emirates, scoring the winning goal.
