What to Wear to a Conference in 2026

There have been a TON of questions on here lately about what to wear to a conference in 2026’s weird fashion era… so let’s discuss! I’ll throw out some topics I’ve seen brought up and I’d love to see you guys weigh in on them in the comments…
In the past, we’ve discussed the five things you must bring to conferences, how to network at conferences, and we even took a stab at what to wear to a beachy conference with a “resort business casual” attire. We also recently rounded up extremely comfortable business casual shoes, including reader shoutouts for great shoes to wear to conferences with lots of walking!

What Should You Wear to a Conference in 2026?
A lot of the questions I’ve seen wonder about the following kinds of workwear items:
- dresses: are they in or out? sleeves? pockets?
- blazers?
- can you repeat portions of an outfit (such as wearing the same blazer on two different days)?
- can you wear tights if it’s going to be cold in May? what if it’s some place like Florida and will be chilly that day — will black tights look out of place?
For my $.02…
Don’t Wear a Skirt or Dress To a Conference Unless You Know What to Wear on Your Legs
If it’s a question — of whether tights are seasonally appropriate, or if the conference is formal enough to require pantyhose — then skip the dress and go for pants instead.
(That said, I’ve said in the past that a work dress with pockets and sleeves like this one is the perfect thing to wear to a conference… and we just rounded up a bunch.)
Wear Blazers and Layers to Ward Against Chilly Conference A/C
I, of course, am always a fan of a blazer (or sweater blazer, if the conference is more casual or if the rest of your outfit is more structured) — and I’d also suggest bringing a cardigan or wrap in your bag so you can throw it on top of the blazer for more warmth. (A wrap can also go on your legs if you’re freezing during the conference.)
Wear Clothes with Pockets to the Conference
Another big bonus to the blazer (if you choose wisely): you’ll have a pocket for business cards. Otherwise, make sure your pants have pockets! If you get lanyards with plastic ID sleeves you may also be able to stash a few there, but many conferences may use pins or magnets to attach to your lapel or shirt.
Wear Comfortable Shoes That Look Vaguely Professional
If you know you’re going to be walking a lot — or that you might be walking many blocks to lunches, dinners, or cocktail parties — you really don’t want to be that person complaining about your shoes.
At the same time, I feel like you can get away with a lot of shoes that might be a little bit fug in the interest of wearing comfortable shoes.
(We’ll put some of our favorite comfortable-but-professional shoes at the bottom of this post… we also just rounded up extremely comfortable business casual shoes that readers say they walk for miles in at conferences!)
A good backup: keep foldable flats in your bag to change into in case of emergency. (I’ve also used them as hotel slippers because let’s face it, hotel rugs are gross. Here’s our latest roundup of foldable flats!)
When In Doubt, Look for Conference Photos From Previous Years
There is usually somewhere, whether it’s the conference website or Instagram hashtags, where you can figure out what people have worn at your exact conference. This is going to be your best guide!
I’ve also (carefully) asked women colleagues who I know have attended the conference in the past broad questions like “is this a pantyhose kind of situation?” I say “carefully” because you probably want to have a pretty close relationship with a senior colleague to even ask a broad question like that. (There can also be work politics at play, e.g., if only a few people are chosen to attend the conference every year.)
What to Wear on Day 2 at a Conference
Don’t repeat outfits, but feel free to wear separates multiple ways. I think everyone understands that your conference attire is limited due to packing restraints — so don’t feel overwhelmed to have a completely new outfit.
I would try to vary it enough to make it clear that you’re not wearing yesterday’s clothes, though — if you’re going to wear a blazer with pants one day, I’d maybe wear the same pants with a different blazer on day 2, and Blazer 1 with a dress or different style of pants on day 3.
Keep In Mind That Different Conference Days Might Have Different Attire
I think it’s common for the last day of conferences to have a lot more variation in people’s attire because people may be leaving midday for another event or flight. The people who are headed to court or other Big Meetings might be in more formal suits than they’ve worn the rest of the conference — while a lot of people might also be in comfortable traveling attire.
(This is a great time to bust out your favorite pull-on pants for the office if you’re wondering what to wear for the plane! Know your audience, but certain athleisure — like Athleta pants — might be appropriate here also. Here’s our latest roundup of pull-on pants for work!)
Can You Wear Sneakers to a Conference?
Know your audience, here — for more formal, corporate conferences, I would probably lean towards no, but it could really vary widely… instead, go for comfortable flats like loafers, Mary Jane flats or pointy toe flats. (This is our latest favorite sneaker for work.)
Another good option here: that subset of fugly-but-comfortable-and-vaguely-professional heels that we’ve called “commuting heels” in the past. (These are particularly great to know about as wide leg trousers have come back into fashion, because they maintain hem length!)
Some of our favorite brands for this kind of shoe include FLY London, Dansko, Eileen Fisher, Børn, and Miz Mooz.
What Should Women Wear to Speak at a Conference?
This is a slightly different question, of course, but I’ve seen it enough here (because you guys rock) that we should discuss here also. How is it different?
The two main considerations I’ve seen readers note time and time again:
Be wary of microphone cords. For example, if you’re going to be miked with wires and cords, a dress is less than great because a lot of those cords will have to go up through your dress.
Be wary of skirts. Will you be seated during your speech or panel? Or at any point during it? Will you be on a raised dais? Will there be anything solid in front of your legs, such as a tablecloth or a solid podium? If the answer to any of these is “maybe,” then, again, a dress or skirt probably isn’t what you want to wear.
(That said, if you still want to go with a dress, do check out our roundup of day to night dresses — they have enough of an impact to be perfect for a leader or VIP.)
For my $.02, I’d suggest that women who are speaking try to convey authority with a blazer or Chanel-like jacket… this is a great opportunity to go for something bold and memorable, but it’s also a fine time to justify something like one of our favorite pricy blazers.
This could also be a great opportunity to bust out a “fun suit” like the ones we feature on Wednesdays… I’ll put some of my latest favorites below. Of course, know your personal brand (and career goals for the conference, whether it’s getting new clients or being memorable as an expert), as well as the general conference attire before getting a bit too wild… (You could also check out our roundup of dramatic blazers!)

What are the Best Shoes to Wear to a Conference?
I’ve seen requests here for wedges, comfortable heels, comfortable flats, and more! I think most readers would agree that this is not the time to try out those 4″ heels that you’ve only worn in the department store.
I’ll put some of our latest favorite shoes in those categories below… but readers, I’d love to hear what you have to say!

Commuting Heels
If you’re hunting for commuting heels, as of 2025 we’d recommend brands like FLY London, Dansko, Eileen Fisher, Børn and Miz Mooz. These help you maintain height for pants hemmed for heels — but with more comfortable shoes for your commute.
Another option: wedge sneakers.

“Comfort” Heels
If you’re seeking “comfort heels,” check out brands like Clarks, Naturalizer, Trotters, Cole Haan, Sofft, Vionic, and Lifestride! If you definitely want a stable base, check out funkier brands like FLY London, Dansko, Eileen Fisher, and Børn — they’re great as commuting heels (because you can maintain height for pants hemmed for heels), but they may also be just the ticket if you want something more comfortable.

Who Wore it Better? Angel Reese Vs. Kandi in Miss Circle’s Tweed Skirt Set + Find a Link to Purchase!
Angel Reese and Kandi Burruss both stepped out in a black and white tweed look by Miss Circle, putting their own spin on the coordinated set. The ensemble featured a $249 Sadie Black & White Tweed High Collar Belted Mini Jacket paired with a $129 Sandra Black & White Tweed Mini Skirt.

WNBA star Angel Reese wore the set as she arrived for her regular season debut with the Atlanta Dream. Reese paired the look with sleek accessories for a sporty-meets-polished moment ahead of the game.

Kandi Burruss first wore the Miss Circle separates during an appearance on Good Night New York TV. Styled by D. Hawk, Kandi added black stockings and Saint Laurent pumps, giving the tweed look a more classic and evening-ready feel.

Both women interpreted the set in distinct ways, with Angel leaning toward a modern courtside arrival look while Kandi opted for a polished television appearance ensemble.

Janet Jackson attended the Grammy Hall of Fame Gala at the Grammy Museum wearing a gray Sacai suit styled with Messika jewelry.
The look, originally presented during Sacai’s Fall/Winter 2026 runway show, featured the brand’s signature approach to hybrid tailoring with mixed fabric construction and layered elements. The structured silhouette combined classic suiting with unexpected textile contrasts, delivering a modern interpretation of evening tailoring.

She completed the ensemble with minimal accessories, allowing the clean lines and construction of the suit to remain the focus. Her glam included hair by Sazzed by Sisters and makeup by Preston Makeup, complementing the understated palette of the look.

The appearance aligns with Janet Jackson’s continued preference for tailored silhouettes and neutral tones on the red carpet.

Meet the Dermatologist Who Treats Skin Like a Work of Art: Dr. Adebola Dele-Michael
Confidence comes from mastery. You notice it in a chef who never needs a second taste or a tailor who shapes fabric with ease. If you have ever met Dr. Adebola Dele-Michael, the board-certified dermatologist at Radiant Skin Dermatology and Laser in New York City, you have seen that same confidence in her practice. She takes her time, listens carefully, and then gets to work with the skill that comes from years of experience.

While many clinics follow trends and offer quick fixes, Dr. Dele-Michael takes a different approach. She specializes in advanced aesthetic dermatology and makes sure every treatment is right for each person. Every patient leaves with a plan made just for them, not just a menu of standard options.

This difference matters more than you might think.
For a long time, Black women and women of color have struggled to get the right care from dermatologists. Too few experts in the field have led to real gaps in treatment. Skin of color is often misunderstood and not properly treated, leaving patients without answers. It is rare to find a doctor who truly understands both the science and the culture.

Dr. Dele-Michael helps close that gap. She knows how treatments affect melanin-rich skin and adjusts her methods to suit each person. Issues like post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and uneven results are not just concepts to her—they are her starting point. This level of care comes from years of learning and real dedication to her patients.

What makes her different is hard to measure. She considers the whole person before choosing any treatment. She pays attention to how a face moves, how it has changed, and what each patient really wants. Radiant Skin Dermatology and Laser was built on this idea. The goal is not to look like you have had work done, but to look like the best version of yourself.

If you care about your skin as much as you do your style, choosing the right person to trust with your face is a big decision. Great results do not happen by chance. They come from working with someone skilled and truly dedicated to doing things right.
Dr. Dele-Michael is that kind of expert.
Dr. Adebola Dele-Michael is a board-certified dermatologist and the founder of Radiant Skin Dermatology and Laser in New York City, specializing in advanced aesthetic and medical dermatology with a focus on skin of color.

Suede Season: How to Style the Women’s Suede Jacket Like Your Favorite Celebrities

In a world of celebrities, Suede is having a massive moment. With its soft, velvety, and versatile appeal, suede jackets for women are back in the game with full throttle. From Rihanna’s off-duty style to Zendaya’s cool, effortless vibe, suede is everywhere. So if you have been waiting for the right moment to own one for yourself, now is the right time to go for it.
Here’s a list of A-list celebrities who are rocking this trend with their unique outfits. But first…
Why Suede Is Back On Every It-Girl’s Radar
Let’s get one thing clear: Suede has been a part of fashion for decades. However, it just needed a little push to make a comeback. Especially now, when the 70s trend is seen on the runways again. All for its smooth and plush texture, high-end brands and influencers are considering it the best alternative to leather.
Besides feeling comfortable, suede naturally elevates your look. It stands out because it works both as a casual staple and a polished statement piece. So if you want your wardrobe to thank you, NYC Jackets offers a beautiful collection of women’s suede jackets that combines classic sophistication with a contemporary vibe.
5 Celebrity-Inspired Ways To Wear It

Ready to create your favorite celeb’s style? Here’s how to style the suede jacket for women, with looks straight from them.
The Zendaya Effect
When you look at Zendaya’s style, you’ll find it to be chic and edgy. A cropped suede moto combined with wide-leg trousers and pointed boots strikes a perfect balance between a relaxed and structured look.
The key to pulling this look off is balancing proportions. A cropped upper silhouette with a wide lower frame gives off both a modern and effortless feel.
Tracee Ellis Ross Energy
Tracee Ellis Ross is known for oversized pieces and bold style choices. For instance, the oversized suede shaket, slip dress, and chunky gold jewelry. The shaket gives off playful energy, the statement jewelry and the slip dress keep it feminine.
Kerry Washington’s Polished Power Move
Kerry Washington showed the world suede jacket has elegance too. Say a tailored suede blazer-jacket, silk blouse, and sleek trousers are a power move but in a softer, more welcoming way. The mix of different textures and cuts makes this look 10/10 for any professional setting or a dinner date.
Rihanna’s Off-Duty Cool
As Rihanna once said, “You can beat me, but you can’t beat my style.” She’s the queen of off-duty style, and her suede jacket game is on fleek. A fringed suede jacket + simple bodysuit + baggy denim + oversized sunglasses = screams cool-girl RiRi. It’s chic, stylish, and comfortable enough for going for a brunch and running errands afterwards.
Issa Rae’s Soft Femme Moment
If laid-back elegance had a name, it’d be Issa Rae. It’s her pastel suede jacket, worn with a monochrome knit set and sneakers, that brings a soft, feminine feel to the suede trend. This look is equally comfy and chic for occasions where you want to look relaxed but also put-together at the same time.
Best Care Tips for Your Suede Piece
Like every garment item, Suede needs proper care to stay in top condition. Use a soft brush after each wear to remove dust and dirt. Suede can absorb moisture, so ensure you invest in a good-quality water-repellent spray. Hang it on a padded hanger to maintain its shape. Suede is soft and luxurious; never machine wash.
What Makes a Suede Jacket a Must-Have?
The suede jacket is a timeless piece that can elevate any humdrum wardrobe. From Tracee’s playful vibe to Rihanna’s laid-back style, a suede jacket for women adds sophistication and edge. So if you’re ready to make the right investment, own a suede upper garment because this one does the heavy lifting for you.
