Joss Whedon’s Cancellation Still Makes No Sense, Unless It’s An Attack On You
By Joshua Tyler
| Published

The first twenty years of the 2000s belonged to Joss Whedon, and he found that success by becoming king of the nerds. His was the mind behind the most successful geek properties of all time, and he was Marvel’s chief genius, the architect of assembling The Avengers. Then, in 2021, he was cancelled. I still don’t understand why.
First, it must be said that Joss Whedon definitely did bad things, and he’s not someone I would ever be friends with. The source of my confusion isn’t a debate over whether he’s a virtuous person; he isn’t. What doesn’t add up is why Hollywood’s powers think his level of virtue should determine whether or not he’s allowed to work.
To understand how strange Joss Whedon’s cancellation is, first, we need to understand what he’s accused of. Here’s a simple, bullet-point list.
Joss Whedon’s Bad Behavior
- Joss Whedon is accused of saying mean things to Ray Fisher and Charisma Carpenter.
- Joss Whedon was a bad husband and had relationships with his actresses.
- Joss Whedon’s sets weren’t always fun, according to some people.
None of these things is good, but to put them in context, let’s compare that list to things done by other Hollywood notables who aren’t cancelled and can do whatever they want.
Woody Allen’s Bad Behavior
- Woody Allen is accused of molesting his daughter, Dylan Farrow.
- Woody Allen married his adopted daughter.
- Woody Allen cheated on his wife with his adopted daughter.
That seems worse than Joss Whedon. A lot worse. Yet Woody Allen isn’t cancelled. Let’s try someone else, maybe Woody Allen is a one-off? What about acclaimed director Roman Polanski, who frequently wins Oscars and can work on anything he wants?
Roman Polanski’s Bad Behavior
- Roman Polanski pleaded guilty to, and was convicted of, raping a 13-year-old child.
- Roman Polanski pleaded guilty to, and was convicted of, drugging a child.
- Roman Polanski fled the country to escape justice.
Roman Polanski has suffered zero consequences and instead is frequently nominated for awards and praised as a genius. What about a more modern figure, like Mel Gibson?
Mel Gibson’s Bad Behavior
- Mel Gibson was arrested for a DUI, which endangered the lives of others.
- Mel Gibson is on tape making sexist and full-on anti-Semitic and racist comments.
- Mel Gibson pleaded not guilty to domestic battery against a helpless woman.
- Mel Gibson is on tape making violent threats.
There was, for a time, some vague noise about cancellation over Gibson’s anti-semitic comments, but it never happened. He kept working, getting payday roles in big Hollywood movies like Daddy’s Home. At this very moment, Mel Gibson is working on directing The Passion of the Christ 2. Meanwhile, Joss Whedon’s Firefly series is being handed over to a talentless hack who made a bunch of terrible superhero shows, because Whedon is not allowed to work.
Maybe Joss Whedon’s problem is that most of his bad behavior revolved around things that happened at work. Let’s take a look at another big, Hollywood director.
James Cameron’s Bad Behavior
- James Cameron is accused of saying mean things to Ed Harris and other actors.
- James Cameron was a bad husband and had numerous relationships with his actresses.
- James Cameron’s sets aren’t always fun, and he’s known to yell at people, mistreat his cast, and physically endanger them.
James Cameron’s history seems similar to Joss Whedon’s. Yet he’s currently in production on another Avatar movie, and no one seems to mind any of it.
Evil Flourishes In Hollywood
Mel Gibson, Roman Polanski, and Woody Allen are not edge cases. Neither is James Cameron, whose behavior is pretty much a mirror of every successful Hollywood director. The movie-making business is full of people who are, by any objective measure, extremely evil.
To actually get punished, you usually have to be as bad as Harvey Weinstein, a serial assaulter and abuser with dozens of accusers. He’s now in jail, where he belongs, but if he gets out (and that’s a real possibility), he’ll never work in Hollywood again.
By comparison, Joss Whedon said some vaguely mean things, was a bad husband, and yet, like Harvey Weinstein, he’s never going to work again. It doesn’t add up.
The Psychology Behind Hating Nerds
Until the early 2000s, nerds like Joss Whedon and the nerd audience he represents were treated like a joke. Nerds were disrespected, hated, and entire movies, like Napoleon Dynamite, were built around the idea of how funny it was to bully and dunk on them.
That changed as Hollywood began to see the profit potential behind catering to geeks, but that doesn’t mean the powers that be were happy about it. They couldn’t be, because of something called Status Identity Threat Syndrome.
Status Identity Threat Syndrome (noun): A psychological response in which individuals experience anxiety, defensiveness, or hostility when the traits or skills that underpin their social status and self-worth are devalued or displaced within a shifting hierarchy.
Extroverted networkers tend to build influence through visibility, relationships, and social fluency, the traditional, human-centric routes to power. For most of human history, these kinds of networkers ran not just Hollywood, but the entire world. When “nerd” types, people who win through technical mastery, obsessive focus, or systems thinking, start outperforming them, it scrambles that hierarchy.

Psychologically, it’s a form of status inconsistency: the traits that used to signal dominance (charisma, connections) suddenly matter less than competence in domains the networkers don’t control. That creates anxiety, because it’s not just losing, it’s losing in a way that makes your skill set feel obsolete.
People defend traits on which they base their self-worth. If success shifts away from social skills like extroverted networking, those invested in social capital can feel threatened. So if you’re an extrovert who has built your entire life around looking cool, seeing an awkward nerd succeed would, from a well-founded psychological perspective, make you very nervous.
Anti-Nerd Bigotry Is Real
As you might expect, as the founder of sites like GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT, I’m something of a nerd. The more successful I’ve gotten, the more the extroverts who man the levers of power dislike me, and the harder they’ve worked to push me out. It’s not something unique to me; it’s something that happens to every introverted nerd in every industry and social corner. Ask them about it, and they’ll tell you.
It’s why educational research shows that introverted students are more likely to be ignored by teachers, receiving less attention and help, resulting in lower grades and fewer opportunities. It’s why data shows that extroverts are more likely to get favorable outcomes in court and even receive superior medical care. It’s why introverted nerds, on average, make 20% less than their extroverted counterparts, despite data showing they demonstrate superior competence at work.

Joss Whedon isn’t the only nerd to be cancelled over allegations like these. Pixar’s bespectacled, Hawaiian shirt-wearing John Lasseter was kicked out of Hollywood for giving a hug. Anyone seen Harry Knowles lately?
I’m not arguing here that Joss Whedon should be un-cancelled; he seems like a hypocritical jerk. Also, Harry Knowles always struck me as a sleaze; we’re probably better off without him. But if being unlikable is the baseline standard we’re setting for whether or not you’re allowed to work, then shouldn’t Woody Allen be locked up in a torture dungeon, instead of being celebrated as a genius?
Make it make sense. Until you do, I’m going to assume you hate nerds and respond by hating you right back. I’m also never going to celebrate anything by Roman Polanski. Sorry, Rosemary’s Baby.

Forget ‘Blade Runner’ — Ridley Scott’s 2-Part Sci-Fi Masterpiece Is the One That Needs a Revival
When people talk about Ridley Scott’s sci-fi legacy, Alien and Blade Runner are usually the first titles that come to mind. But one of his most ambitious, and perhaps most underrated, contributions to the genre didn’t come from a big blockbuster film. The TV series Raised by Wolves, created by Aaron Guzikowski and produced by Scott (who also directed the first two episodes), was a stunning blend of hard science fiction, bold storytelling, and hauntingly beautiful visuals.
And while Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 was a worthy successor to Scott’s original film, Raised by Wolves pushed even further, tackling deeper philosophical questions, bolder narrative risks, and offering an even more expansive vision of humanity’s bleak future. Though it was cancelled after just two seasons, Raised by Wolves remains one of the most complex and visually striking sci-fi TV series of recent years and, in many ways, surpasses Blade Runner 2049 as a modern genre masterpiece. Cancelled before it could reach the ending Guzikowski had planned, the series now feels less like an unfinished experiment and more like the Scott-backed sci-fi masterpiece most deserving of another chance.
‘Raised by Wolves’ Took Science Fiction to the Next Level
Like Blade Runner 2049, Raised by Wolves explores the boundaries of artificial life and the nature of belief. But where 2049 focused primarily on the interior lives of replicants striving to define themselves within a broken society, Raised by Wolves widens the lens. It examines the very act of creation and whether any being, human or machine, could create life without repeating the same destructive cycles that doomed humanity.
The series follows two androids, Mother (Amanda Collin) and Father (Abubakar Salim), sent to Kepler-22b to raise human children after Earth was decimated by religious war. Their mission is to build a new, secular society far from the highly damaged Earth, free from ideological conflict. But that plan unravels when a ship of survivors from the religious Mithraic order arrives on the planet, led by the charismatic and dangerous Caleb (Travis Fimmel). This collision between faith and reason became the show’s beating heart. Unlike 2049 or many sci-fi stories where faith is used as a metaphor, Raised by Wolves grapples directly with how warring religious beliefs can have deadly ramifications.
One of the most fascinating arcs is Mother’s duality between nurturing caregiver and terrifying weapon of war. It’s easily one of the most compelling journeys in modern sci-fi, grounding the show’s grand ideas in deeply human questions about motherhood, instinct, and control. This is also where creator Guzikowski and his writers take their boldest swings, and even when the show veers into surreal or unsettling territory, it is impossible to look away. As Mother wrestles with her programmed purpose, actual emotions, and life-altering power, Raised by Wolves asks a question that echoes throughout the series: Can a creator ever truly control what they create, or will life always evolve in unexpected and uncontrollable ways?
Compelling Performances Make ‘Raised By Wolves’ a Sci-Fi Standout
Visually, Raised by Wolves is a triumph of atmosphere and originality. While Blade Runner 2049 perfected the neon-drenched dystopia of Scott’s earlier vision, Raised by Wolves carves out something entirely new. The stark, alien landscape of Kepler-22b feels ancient and dangerous, yet strangely beautiful, like a place that never lets you get comfortable. Ridley Scott was so inspired by the scripts that he immediately began drawing storyboards. His signature touches, including the milky-white android “blood,” were seamlessly woven into the show’s eerie, minimalist design. But it isn’t the spectacle alone that makes the show unforgettable. The writing and performances give it depth, consistently grounding bold sci-fi concepts in emotional authenticity.
Amanda Collin delivers a stunning performance as Mother. Her unsettling, wide-eyed smile could be tender one moment and terrifying the next. Abubakar Salim’s Father brings warmth and levity, often lightening the mood with dry, well-timed “dad joke” humor. But in moments of fear or anger, he can shift just as quickly, becoming as lethal as his counterpart. Together, the two have undeniable chemistry as they walk the narrow line between human and machine. Their evolving relationship constantly mirrors the show’s larger questions about creation, control, and the blurry boundaries of parenthood and programming, making them the emotional core of the series.
Travis Fimmel’s Caleb adds another layer of complexity as a charismatic zealot whose passion is as dangerous as it is magnetic. Opposite him, Niamh Algar brings depth and nuance to Sue, a human doctor whose maternal instincts, though she isn’t biologically connected to her son, echo Mother’s own conflicted sense of parenthood. Their dynamic presents a fractured human counterpart to the androids, asking big thematic questions like what defines family, and whether compassion or ideology will ultimately prevail. What is also refreshing is that Raised by Wolves never chooses sides but, instead, explores how even the most righteous intentions can spiral toward ruin.
Apple TV’s $10M Episodic Sci-Fi Gamble Paid Off With 3 Near-Perfect Seasons
“Math is never just numbers. In the wrong hands, it’s a weapon. In the right hands, it’s deliverance.”
In a 2022 Collider interview, creator Guzikowski revealed that he had mapped out five seasons and knew exactly how the series would end. Hearing that only makes Raised by Wolves’ cancellation more frustrating, especially when the show was denied the opportunity to adjust and reach a proper conclusion. In today’s climate, where so many sci-fi and genre series are being cut short, it’s hard not to wonder what Raised by Wolves could have evolved into if it had been given the time and space its vision deserved.
Ridley Scott’s legacy may already be secure, but Raised by Wolves deserves to stand proudly alongside his greatest works. With its visionary writing, career-defining performances, and bold philosophical scope, it remains one of the most original sci-fi achievements of the past decade, and a show that still deserves a future. For all the attention Blade Runner still receives, Raised by Wolves is the Scott-backed sci-fi vision that feels most unfinished, daring, and in need of revival. HBO Max’s controversial decision to not only cancel the series but also remove it from the streaming platform added further insult. Now, with Warner Bros. once again reshuffling its content strategy, there is still hope that someone, somewhere, might at least restore the series to a platform where it can find the wider audience it deserves.

Netflix’s Star-Studded Creature Feature Recreates The 90’s Most Infamous Sci-Fi Thriller
By Chris Snellgrove
| Published

The original Anaconda is one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies of the ‘90s. It’s not a good movie by any snake-like stretch of the imagination, but you don’t exactly watch this film for stellar writing or stunning cinematography. No, you watch it to see Jennifer Lopez looking pretty, Ice Cube cracking one-liners, and Jon Voight winking at the camera after getting barfed up by a giant anaconda. It’s pure, unadulterated schlock, whose magic could never truly be recaptured. That’s why the sequels (yes, there were several) were forgettable retreads of the first film’s creature feature formula.
Understandably, I was horrified when I heard there was going to be a new Anaconda starring Jack Black and Paul Rudd. How could these guys ever possibly top the original movie? By doing something completely different, of course! Anaconda (2025) is a hilariously meta remake of the first movie that involves middle-aged fanboys trying to remake the original film on a shoestring budget. The result is one of the only great remakes of the last two decades, and you can now stream its goofy goodness for yourself on Netflix.
Welcome To The Jungle

The premise of 2025’s Anaconda is that three childhood friends are dealing with a collective midlife crisis. Disappointed with their accomplishments (or lack thereof), they are energized by the bizarre news that one of them has somehow acquired the rights to the original Anaconda. They decide to reinvent their lives by remaking the film, but when they travel to the Amazon Rainforest, they encounter something far deadlier than a giant snake: a mysterious woman who may transform their film into a monster hit, or simply get all of them killed in the most gruesome possible way.
As you might imagine, the charismatic cast provides most of this Anaconda reboot’s charm. Paul Rudd, fresh from movies like Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, returns to his roots as an affable, infectiously funny everyman. Meanwhile, Jack Black dials back the wackiness he brought to movies like Minecraft to embody a role most viewers will find all too relatable: an aging man who despairs that his success came at the expense of his childhood dreams. Steve Zahn, meanwhile, finds himself in the middle: one part straight man, one part wacky comic relief. He serves as the quirky anchor of this ambitiously audacious reboot.
A Delightfully Dumb Script

At the risk of glazing (as the kids might say) the film too hard, Anaconda is a shining example of how to do a reboot. Director and co-writer Tom Gormican wisely realized that a straight remake just wouldn’t cut it. While the original Anaconda stood out in the ‘90s as a B-movie throwback to ‘50s creature feature schlock, countless films (most of them SyFy originals) have tried to bite its style in subsequent decades. In a post-Sharknado world, the original 1997 Anaconda seems downright quaint. Instead of doing a throwback remake, the new film effectively weaponizes our nostalgia for the earlier movie into something new and refreshing.
The plot of the new Anaconda is fairly insubstantial, but that’s not really a bad thing. This is what I like to call a vibe movie; one that lets you turn your brain off and have fun with a cast that is clearly clicking with each other. Jack Black and Paul Rudd have amazing chemistry, and their easygoing rapport helps transform poor-on-paper jokes into unexpectedly hilarious onscreen bangers. In the best sense of the term, this dynamic duo helps deliver the kind of dumb fun that most modern movies are lacking. If you’re sick of elevated horror and cerebral comedies, you’ll love a throwback that feels like Dumb and Dumber meets Tremors.
Not Exactly Oscar Bait

That’s the real secret of the new Anaconda: the salty/sweet combination of a wickedly smart meta concept and delightfully dumb execution. It’s arguably one of the smartest takes on a cinematic reboot (a reliably boring staple of modern Hollywood), but nobody involved is taking any of this too seriously. In that way, this reboot of a beloved ‘90s B-movie embraces the carefree ethos of that decade, encouraging us to engage with this film as lowbrow comedy rather than high art. In an age where other vintage comedy franchises like Ghostbusters are being reinvented as serious (and seriously lazy) nostalgia slop, it’s great to watch a reboot that just wants to make you laugh.
Are you a huge fan of the original Anaconda who wants to return for another rumble in the jungle? Do you like this killer cast, or maybe you just want to laugh like you haven’t in a very long time? Fortunately, you don’t need to head to the Amazon Rainforest to get your kicks. All you have to do is stream Anaconda on Netflix today. It’s the kind of movie you can enjoy as a self-contained, wonderfully irreverent throwback comedy. Alternatively, you can enjoy it as something much more serious: the unexpectedly brilliant future of the Hollywood remake. Judging from this, the ultimate hangout movie, that future is so bright you’ll need to wear shades!
Just, uh, be sure to take them off before you wink at the camera.

HBO’s Most Raunchy, Boundary-Breaking Series Is Streaming Uncensored For The First Time
By Jonathan Klotz
| Published

For decades, HBO’s first scripted comedy series, 1990’s Dream On, has been an internet legend. The series was impossible to find anywhere. Not because of the nudity, or the swearing, but the copyrighted movie clips and music. That’s why fans were stunned when it turned up on The Roku Channel, and unlike the version that aired on Comedy Central, it’s the original, uncensored version that aired on HBO.
If you’ve never heard of Dream On, you probably know the show that its creators, Marta Kaufmann and David Crane, put together after the raunchy comedy came to an end. A small sitcom called Friends.
Dream On Took Sitcoms In A Wild New Direction

Friends defined the traditional sitcom, and it would be easy to say that Dream On went the opposite direction and bucked convention, but it doesn’t. The show follows Martin Tupper (Brian Benben), a divorced book editor madly in love with his ex-wife, Judith (Wendy Malick). Martin’s misadventures, involving getting back into the dating pool, trying to co-parent his teenage son with Judith, and navigating a stifling work environment, are all standard sitcom tropes. Except for the constant movie and television clips. And the nudity.
Dream On’s gimmick is that Martin was raised in front of the television to the point that his internal monologue comes out in old black-and-white clips. They range from the opening to “Trojan War” featuring a clip about love from Rod Serling’s The Twilight Zone to Marilyn Monroe’s Some Like It Hot. During a single scene, there can be a dozen quick cutaways, sometimes showing Martin’s reactions, other times acting as his responses. It’s a gag that works, and the production team was creative with their choices, digging deep into Hollywood history to find unexpected clips.
Saved From The Dustbin Of History

The plot of each episode doesn’t always revolve around sex, but most of them do. Martin’s dating life is the most unrealistic part of the series. Like Jerry Seinfeld, he has a series of girlfriends far out of his league, but unlike Jerry, he’s shown actually having sex (sometimes with diastrous results). No one on any other 90s sitcom had to face an ethical dilemma in which they discover a video of a popular children’s clown enjoying some adult time. That’s the plot of the Season 4 double-sized opener.
HBO wasn’t yet a media juggernaut when Dream On debuted in 1990, and back then, “HBO Original Programming” was essentially documentaries. The risqué comedy series opened the door for the network’s late 90’s rise with Sex and the City and The Sopranos, and without the misadventures of Martin Tupper, Friends wouldn’t exist as it does today.

Comedy Central aired the series in a heavily edited format, for both nudity and language, from 1996 through 1999, and then that was the last of Dream On. Quietly, the series arrived on The Roku Channel, but it was missing a few episodes. A few weeks later, and even those were ready for streaming, giving everyone complete access to the entire unedited, uncensored series for the first time in decades.

Deborra-Lee Furness Hurt By Hugh Jackman’s Met Gala Return
Hugh Jackman’s long-awaited Met Gala return was supposed to mark a glamorous night out with girlfriend Sutton Foster.
Instead, the high-profile appearance reportedly reopened old wounds for ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness.
The former couple spent years making the fashion event one of their favorite traditions during their long term marriage, which is why seeing Jackman publicly debut his new romance at the iconic gala allegedly hit especially hard.
According to insiders, Furness was left blindsided watching the actor create new memories at an event once deeply tied to their relationship.

Deborra-Lee Furness was reportedly struggling emotionally after Hugh Jackman attended the Met Gala with Sutton Foster earlier this month.
The former couple, who announced their separation in 2023 after nearly three decades together, had long treated the annual fashion event as one of the highlights of their social calendar.
An insider claimed seeing Jackman arrive hand-in-hand with Foster at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art stirred painful emotions for Furness.
“Deb had been warned Hugh would be appearing with Sutton but it still felt like a knife to the heart seeing them there,” the source told New Idea Magazine.
The insider explained that the Met Gala once represented a major shared tradition for Furness and Jackman during their marriage.
“This was her and Hugh’s ‘big night out’ for the year and they were there side-by-side, just like Sutton is today, just four years ago,” the source added.
The emotional reaction reportedly came despite Furness already being aware that Jackman planned to attend the event with his new partner.
Jackman And Furness Had A ‘Met Gala Custody’ Agreement

According to reports, Hugh Jackman and his ex-wife previously attempted to avoid uncomfortable encounters by agreeing to alternate Met Gala appearances following their split.
The insider claimed the arrangement was made before anyone realized how serious the actor’s relationship with Foster would become.
“They were regulars at the Met Gala, it was one of her favourite nights out,” the source explained, adding, “In fact, when they split they agreed to ‘split custody’ of the Met Gala, go on alternate years, but that was before anyone knew about Sutton.”
Furness reportedly skipped the event altogether after the breakup because returning to the gala brought back too many memories from their marriage.
“Last year when it looked like Hugh wanted to take Sutton, Deb indicated she might be going but simply couldn’t face it. There were just too many painful memories,” the insider said.
The source also suggested the actress quietly hoped Jackman might continue attending alone rather than turning the event into a public relationship debut.
“Part of her hoped he might have gone solo again, so it adds an extra layer of hurt that Hugh’s so willing to pave over their historic nights out with new memories,” they shared.
Hugh Jackman And Sutton Foster Drew Backlash Online

Jackman’s red carpet appearance with Foster quickly sparked criticism online, with many social media users accusing the actor of moving on too quickly after his divorce.
The pair looked affectionate throughout the evening as photographers captured them holding hands and exchanging smiles as they climbed the Met Gala staircase.
Some critics branded the appearance “disrespectful” and “classless,” especially because the Met Gala had become so closely associated with Jackman and Furness over the years.
Jackman finalized his divorce from Furness last year, while his romance with Foster reportedly began in late 2024.
Before debuting Foster at the 2026 Met Gala, Jackman had notably attended the 2024 event alone and skipped the gala entirely last year during the height of the split drama.
This year, however, the actor fully embraced the public nature of his new relationship. Observers at the event noted that Jackman and Foster appeared completely smitten throughout the night.
Jackman’s Romance With Foster Continues Heating Up

Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster’s Met Gala debut also fueled fresh rumors that the relationship may already be heading toward marriage.
Back in February, the Globe reported that the “X-Men” star had allegedly rejected the idea of signing a prenup before marrying the Broadway actress.
The wedding speculation intensified because the romance became public less than a year after Jackman and Furness finalized their divorce.
Jackman and Foster have reportedly grown increasingly serious since going public with the relationship following months of speculation.
Their connection began while they starred together in Broadway’s 2021 revival of “The Music Man,” where fans quickly noticed strong chemistry between them.
Meanwhile, Furness has reportedly continued focusing on rebuilding her life privately following the end of the marriage.
Despite the emotional fallout surrounding the Met Gala, insiders insist she is trying to move forward. “Deb is doing well moving on… seeing Sutton smiling on the arm of Hugh hurt,” the source said.
Inside Hugh Jackman And Deborra-Lee Furness’ Emotional Split

Jackman and Furness officially parted ways after 27 years of marriage, with their separation becoming public in September 2023.
In a joint statement released at the time, the former couple explained that their “journey now is shifting” and that they had “decided to separate to pursue [their] individual growth.”
The pair, who married in 1996 after meeting on the Australian TV series “Correlli,” share two adopted children and repeatedly emphasized that family would remain their “highest priority.”
Their split later led to formal divorce proceedings, with Furness filing in New York in 2025.
Around the same time, she appeared to reference emotional pain from the breakup, describing it as a “traumatic journey of betrayal.”
Since the separation, Jackman has moved forward with Foster, while reports suggest that he and Furness have been working privately through financial settlements and property divisions tied to their estimated multimillion-dollar fortune.

Nick Cannon Celebrated Mother’s Day The Traditional Way
Despite being a father to 12 children with six different women, Nick Cannon revealed that he did not spend the occasion with any of the mothers of his children. Instead, Cannon said his plans centered on honoring his own mother, in keeping with tradition.
Cannon is no stranger to controversy when it comes to discussing family and parenting. The actor previously drew backlash after making comments suggesting he would be more comfortable allowing his son, Moroccan, to date than his daughter, Monroe.

Ahead of Mother’s Day over the past weekend, Cannon revealed that he would be spending the occasion with his own mother, Beth Gardner, and not with any of his children’s moms.
“I’m spending time with my mother,” the 45-year-old said, per E! News. “It’s Mother’s Day. It’s not Baby Mama’s Day!”
Gardner has remained a constant presence in Cannon’s life, frequently appearing alongside him during major personal and professional milestones.
She accompanied her son to the TeenNick HALO Awards for several consecutive years and has also supported his entertainment career by attending premieres of his films, including “Chi-Raq” and “Love Don’t Cost a Thing.”
Cannon’s Baby Mamas Still Got Mother’s Day Gifts
Despite not choosing to spend Mother’s Day with any of the mothers of his children, Cannon still made sure they felt appreciated on the special occasion.
According to the actor, part of his annual tradition involves helping his children pick out gifts for their mothers, something he described as a meaningful bonding experience for him and the kids.
“I appreciate them, but they get stuff from the kids,” Nick said of his baby mamas, Mariah Carey, Brittany Bell, Abby De La Rosa, Bre Tiesi, LaNisha Cole, and Alyssa Scott.
He added, “I try to make whatever the gift is custom [and] that the kids are a part of it, but it’s always nice. They’re not gonna get the same thing because they ain’t got the same kids.”
Nick Cannon Says Valentine’s Day Is Harder Than Mother’s Day

Elsewhere in the conversation, Cannon revealed which occasions he actually finds more difficult to navigate.
“Everybody always talks about, ‘Oh, man, Mother’s Day must be crazy for you,’ it’s not really Mother’s Day that’s crazy,” Cannon emphasized, adding, “It’s Valentine’s Day” and “Ironically, it is Father’s Day.”
Although the comedian did not explain exactly why the International Day of Love can be challenging for him, the holiday may be more difficult to navigate because it carries more romantic expectations than Mother’s Day.
As for Father’s Day, Cannon claimed the day can become overwhelming because all 12 of his children naturally want to spend time celebrating with him at the same time.
The Actor Explained Why He Doesn’t Allow His Daughter To Date
Weeks earlier, Cannon came under scrutiny after revealing that he is comfortable with his 15-year-old son, Moroccan, dating, but does not allow his twin sister, Monroe, to do the same.
At the time, he told TMZ’s podcast that he is “more protective” of his daughter because there are certain dangers he feels he needs to shield her from. He went on to suggest that his son might not call him if something troubling happened on a date, while he believes his daughter would.
Cannon added that the idea of his daughter being harmed is his “worst nightmare,” and said he would respond decisively in such a situation, even if it potentially led to legal consequences.
Nick Cannon Was Slammed For His Dating Rules

As the conversation continued, Cannon conceded that he would consider allowing his daughter to date if a chaperone, such as her brother, accompanied her.
However, he refused to specify the age at which she would be allowed to date independently, noting that he is already preparing for that possibility and having conversations with her about dating once she reaches college age.
Online, Cannon was quickly criticized for his approach, with many users describing it as “misogynistic” and a “double standard at its finest.”
The comedian’s widely publicized personal life and multiple relationships were also raised by critics, who argued that he was not the right person to offer parenting advice.

Taylor Frankie Paul Slams ‘Snake Friend’ In Mother’s Day Post
Taylor Frankie Paul‘s patience has run out, and she is not holding back against backstabbing friends!
The TV personality, who lost the chance to showcase her season of “The Bachelorette,” poured out her grievances on Mother’s Day with a heated post about betrayal.
Taylor Frankie Paul became embroiled in a domestic violence scandal after a resurfaced video seemingly captured her attacking her then-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen. They have since dropped new allegations against each other.

Sunday, May 10, marked the annual Mother’s Day celebration across the globe, but the event was more of an outlet to vent pent-up frustration for Taylor. She took to her Instagram page on the fateful day, sharing five images of herself bonding with her three children.
Unlike the sweet pictures, the caption was filled with Taylor’s response to her co-star Mikayla Matthews from “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” series. Although she did not mention the latter by name, Taylor’s words referenced Mikayla’s recent statements about her domestic violence drama with Dakota.
Taylor began by stating she had “friends” kicking her while she was down and “calling it ‘setting a boundary.’” She described Mikayla’s actions as “shaming” and attacking her when she finally had a moment to breathe amid the scandal. Taylor stressed that she had never labeled herself a “victim,” adding:
“But I’m HUMAN and have breaking points. What a snake friend just did to me in the public eye after everything she just witnessed…the lack of empathy and silence was loud enough.”
The Reality TV Star Details Shocking Alleged Incidents

Taylor expressed disappointment and frustration at Mikayla’s response to her situation, wondering how she could judge her without knowing the full story. She went on to detail the alleged trauma she endured at her ex’s hands, asking if Mikayla had put herself in her shoes.
“Have you been hurt while pregnant? Have you been beaten right after giving birth? Have you lost two babies due to who knows what? Have you gone to jail for finally breaking and taking the only blame for years?” Taylor wrote. She noted Mikayla could not understand her suffering and slammed her for taking Dakota’s side.
Taylor pointed out that Mikayla never called her after hearing Dakota’s narrative and had allegedly ignored her twice. “That is what an enemy is. Your trauma doesn’t give you a pass to kick me while down and cover it with ‘a boundary’ months later after the fact,” a disappointed Taylor added.
The Entertainer Accused Mikayla Matthews Of Caring More About Money

Taylor continued ripping Mikayla’s response apart, noting that she had a right to state her boundary, but she shouldn’t lie to the public. She asked her to reveal whom she last spoke to about the situation and if she had asked any relevant questions about the incident besides focusing on money.
According to Taylor, Mikayla was more concerned about whether Taylor made more than her while filming “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.” She also bashed Mikayla for her “concern for children act,” arguing that everyone knew she was good to her children and did everything within her power to cater to their needs.
Taylor claimed she had missed events, girls’ nights, and opportunities to stay home with her children. She acknowledged that she was spiraling, adding that she had every right to since people were calling her out, thinking she wouldn’t respond. “Exactly what I will NOT be tolerating ever again,” Taylor declared.
Fans Rally In Taylor Frankie Paul’s Corner

The entertainer’s post garnered supportive comments from fans and celebrities alike, who assured Taylor they were on her side. The list included “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” star Jessi Draper, who penned her love for Taylor and her understanding of the latter’s situation.
“I’m so sorry, and you’ll be back stronger and happier than ever,” Jessi wrote. Media personality Hera Sfikas sympathized with Taylor, assuring the mother of three that she deserved better from her inner circle. Fans echoed similar sentiments, imploring Taylor not to let her friends or critics silence her.
The drama began when Mikayla posted a series of comments about Taylor’s situation underneath a fan account. The post, per PEOPLE, had noted that real friends don’t abandon each other during difficult times. Although Mikayla wasn’t mentioned by name, she was seemingly offended.
Mikayla Matthews Sets Boundaries In Fiery Response

When fans called Mikayla out for commenting on the post after several weeks had passed, she replied that she was “fed up.” Days later, she further expressed her frustration in a lengthy statement on her Instagram Stories, noting she was setting “healthy” boundaries in her friendships.
“I was there after [Taylor’s] swinging rock bottom, I was there after the [2023] arrest rock bottom,” Mikayla claimed, per US Weekly. She added that despite her support, “the behaviors and patterns continued” until she realized she could no longer “save someone who is unwilling to participate in their own rescue.”
Mikayla stressed that “having a moral compass and boundaries” did not make her a “bad or jealous” friend. She added that she wasn’t taking sides because it was not her job “to enable poor or dangerous behavior from either party, especially when children are involved.”
