Maybe at the time you made this video it might have been something to consider. 10 months later you can buy those server rack batteries for $1100 – $1400 and they are excellent quality. there are so many brands that are competing. really you're comparing apples to oranges. Like you said 48 volts compared to 36. Also the lithium ion phosphate battery batteries are up to 6500 cycles. They are all so UL approved, another words they're safer. So you're actually looking at more of a price of $4,400 – $4800 compared to $3600 and the extended hassle of getting all the different pieces together and then the labor of building them! I suppose it's a great nerd project, I wouldn't spend a dime on those batteries. In the long run you're going to be spending a hell of a lot more on your DIY battery, simply because you only get a %25 life cycle compared to the lithium phosphate. You would literally have to build four of your units at $3600 a piece if you consider the life on that battery and you still wouldn't have near as nice a battery as the lithium ion phosphate batteries that you can get anywhere from $1100 to $1400. He had 36 volt do it yourself is very limited as you pointed out. You can get really good quality inverters as you pointed out also on the 48 volt system.

This is a lot of smoke waiting to happen from shorted wires at best and a burned down house at worst. NO way should that many small wires with that much exposed copper be shut up in that small a space. The PCB are laughable and not anything I wouldn't want to be around when the crack from the strain on them. And last but not least, I don't know how many cheap knockoff XT60's I've seen melted, but it is a lot. No part of this remotely sounds like a good idea.

As a heads up, there are some states in the US that are currently planning on banning new installs of NMC battery systems due to the fire risk, and requiring LFP. DIY is great and I am working on my own system currently, but if you plan on being connected to the grid at all, you'll need to pass inspection!

For safety reasons you do not want to stack them higher than 5 or 6.
