As the Boxing Day fixtures are upon us I have a feeling that there’ll be loads of goals but maybe not on the scale of what happened on 26th December 1963.
That Boxing Day saw a record 66 goals in just ten 1st Division games.
Fulham beat Ipswich 10-1, Blackburn won at West Ham 8-2, Liverpool beat Stoke 6-1, Chelsea beat Blackpool 5-1 and Spurs drew with West Brom in an 8 goal thriller.
Not that I would ever question what professional footballers were up to on Xmas Day 1963 but I’d be sure that the alumni of 2024 won’t be having a night on Snowballs and Party 7’s.
Here’s the predictions that Clive Allen and I have come up with.
Merry Christmas from Paul and Clive.
PS I redeemed myself last week!
Mohamed Salah has been incredible for Liverpool of late
