Prime Video’s Best ‘Reacher’ Alternative Officially Returns This Month

Published

on

tom-clancys-jack-ryan-ghost-war-2026-film-poster.jpg

While it often takes a while for some platforms to settle on one, every streaming service has a flagship property. For Netflix, that includes hits like Stranger Things and The Night Agent, while Apple TV leans on standout series such as Ted Lasso and Pluribus. It took Prime Video some time to establish its own flagship property, but a few years agoit finally settled on Reacher, which it considered a project worth investing in. The conspiracy series comes from Lee Child’s novels. Although Tom Cruise was the first to take on the role in live-action, many fans feel Alan Ritchson is a far better physical match for the character. Prime Video has already debuted three full seasons of Reacher, and another is confirmed to be on the way before the end of 2026. The show has also helped elevate Ritchson into one of the biggest action stars in the world, allowing him to star in hits for other platforms like War Machine.

Before Reacher, however, Prime Video captured that same action-conspiracy success with Jack Ryan, the Tom Clancy-inspired action series starring John Krasinski. The show debuted in 2018 and, after some unfortunate delays brought on by COVID-19, concluded its four-season run in 2023. Even so, fans weren’t quite ready to move on from Jack Ryan, which led Prime Video to bring Krasinski back alongside returning cast members like Wendell Pierce (Superman) and Michael Kelly (Lioness) for a follow-up spin-off film. Prime Video has officially announced Jack Ryan: Ghost War, and the platform even previewed a trailer for the project a few weeks ago. The story of Jack Ryan will continue later this month when the film drops exclusively on Prime Video on May 20.

Your Partner Has Been Assigned
Your Perfect Partner Is…

Your answers have pointed to one action hero above all others. This is the person built to have your back — for better or considerably, spectacularly worse.

Rambo

Your partner doesn’t talk much, doesn’t need to, and will have assessed every threat in your immediate environment before you’ve finished your first sentence. John Rambo is not a man of plans or politics — he is a force of nature shaped by survival, loyalty, and a capacity for endurance that goes beyond anything training can produce. He will not leave you behind. He has never left anyone behind who deserved to come home. What you get with Rambo is the most capable, most quietly ferocious partner imaginable — one who has been through things that would have broken anyone else, and who chose to keep going anyway. You’ll never need to ask if he has your back. You’ll just know.

James Bond

Your partner will arrive perfectly dressed, perfectly briefed, and with a cover story so convincing it’ll take you a moment to remember what’s actually true. James Bond is the most professionally dangerous person in any room he enters — and the most disarmingly charming, which is the point. He operates in a world of layers, where nothing is what it appears and every advantage is used without apology. You’ll never be bored. You’ll occasionally be furious. But when it matters — when the mission is genuinely on the line and the margin for error has collapsed to nothing — Bond is exactly the partner you want. He has survived things that have no business being survivable. He does it with style. That is not nothing.

Indiana Jones

Your partner will know the history, the language, the cultural context, and exactly why the thing everyone else is ignoring is actually the most important thing in the room. Indiana Jones is brilliant, reckless, and occasionally impossible — but he is also one of the most resourceful, most genuinely knowledgeable partners you could find yourself beside. He approaches every situation with a scholar’s eye and a brawler’s instinct, which is an unusual combination and a remarkably effective one. He hates snakes and gets personally attached to objects of historical significance, both of which will slow you down at least once. It doesn’t matter. What Indy brings is irreplaceable — and the adventures you’ll have together will be the kind people write books about. Assuming you survive them.

John McClane

Your partner was not supposed to be here. He does not have the right equipment, the right information, or anything approaching the right odds. He has a sarcastic remark and an absolute refusal to accept that the situation is as bad as it looks. John McClane is the greatest accidental hero in the history of action cinema — a man whose superpower is stubbornness, whose contingency plan is improvisation, and whose capacity to absorb punishment and keep moving would be alarming if it weren’t so useful. He will complain the entire time. He will make it significantly more chaotic than it needed to be. And he will absolutely, unconditionally, without question come through when it counts. Yippee-ki-yay.

Ethan Hunt

Your partner has already run seventeen scenarios by the time you’ve finished reading the briefing, and the plan he’s settled on involves at least two things that should be physically impossible. Ethan Hunt operates at the absolute edge of human capability — technically, physically, and intellectually — and he brings the same relentless precision to protecting his partners that he brings to dismantling organisations that shouldn’t exist. He is not easy to know and he will never fully tell you everything. But he will carry the weight of the mission so completely, so absolutely, that your job is simply to trust him — and the remarkable thing is that trusting him always turns out to be the right call. The mission will be impossible. He will complete it anyway.

Sabrina Carpenter Revives Bling Ring Scandal

Published

on

Sabrina Carpenter at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards

Sabrina Carpenter has revived the nearly forgotten robbery scandal that once rocked several celebrities and some of Hollywood’s most exclusive neighborhoods.

The “Please Please Please” singer paid a nod to the infamous Bling Ring scandal in her music video for “House Tour,” one of the tracks from her latest album, “Man’s Best Friend.”

Carpenter also reflected on her recent appearance at the Met Gala, revealing that duetting with Stevie Nicks “healed many things” in her.

Carpenter turned up the heat and stirred controversy in the official music video for “House Tour,” a track from her new album “Man’s Best Friend.” The 26-year-old pop star bared it all while teaming up with actresses Margaret Qualley and Madelyn Cline.

The video opens with the trio enjoying what appears to be a carefree girls’ night out, but things quickly spiral when they break into a lavish mansion to steal jewelry and other luxury items.

The group unleashes chaos throughout the property, raiding the liquor cabinet, lounging in a bubble bath, making off with valuables, and even stealing a Grammy, all while rocking revealing lingerie looks.

Police eventually arrive in the video, but the trio has already escaped. The clip closes with Carpenter and Qualley seemingly running over a man during their dramatic getaway.

Carpenter’s directorial effort for the song’s visuals references “The Bling Ring,” which was based on a true story popularized by a 2010 Vanity Fair article titled “The Suspects Wore Louboutins.”

The article followed a group of wealthy, fame-obsessed young people who, between 2008 and 2009, burglarized the homes of celebrities including Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Rachel Bilson, Brian Austin Green, Megan Fox, and Orlando Bloom, making off with millions of dollars’ worth of valuables.

Nick Prugo, Rachel Lee, Alexis Neiers, Diana Tamayo, and Courtney Ames were among the members of the group that became infamously known as the Bling Ring. The burglars reportedly were not motivated by money alone, but by the thrill of stealing luxury items like jewelry, shoes, and designer bags to flaunt on social media.

The group reportedly carried out the burglaries by using the now-defunct website celebrityaddressaerial.com, which at the time provided celebrity addresses. According to El Pais, they would monitor media coverage to make sure the stars were away from home before breaking in.

That strategy helped them gain access to Paris Hilton’s house, where they allegedly used a key that she often left under a doormat. Hilton reportedly did not realize what was happening until the group had stolen items worth around $2 million.

They also targeted Orlando Bloom after a TMZ report revealed he was filming in New York at the time. The group allegedly stole nearly $500,000 worth of Rolex watches, Louis Vuitton handbags, clothing, and artwork from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star.

Their final reported victim was Lindsay Lohan, whom Rachel Lee reportedly considered her “ultimate fashion icon,” according to friend Nick Prugo.

How One Bling Ring Member Brought Down The Group

Bling Ring likely could have escaped detection after ending their operation once surveillance footage was released, but Prugo eventually broke down after seeing coverage of their crimes online and turned himself in.

Following his confession, authorities searched the homes of the other members in an effort to recover stolen items. According to reports, investigators found a coat belonging to Lohan and a topless photo of Hilton at Lee’s home.

At Neiers’s residence, police reportedly discovered a Marc Jacobs handbag belonging to Bilson and a Chanel necklace owned by Lohan.

According to CNN, Tamayo was sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to complete 60 days of work for the California Department of Transportation. Ringleaders Prugo and Lee received prison sentences of two and four years, respectively, while Ames was sentenced to three years of probation and two months of community service.

Carpenter’s video sparked intense backlash upon release, with many critics accusing the singer of sexualizing herself and glamorizing theft.

“Says all men are stupid. Sexualizes herself for the men… Is she afraid that her music won’t do well without showing her body?” one critic wrote on X.

“What do you expect? Her real content is body showing, not the music. Music is like something to play in the background,” another user commented.

“I have tried to defend her, but I can’t see the irony in this; she literally just sells her body,” one harsh critic wrote, while another added, “Not sure if she’s selling music or an OnlyFans… Why are her music videos always like this?”

Disturbing, R-Rated 80s Thriller Is An Unwanted Guest That Will Drive You Insane

Disturbing, R-Rated 80s Thriller Is An Unwanted Guest That Will Drive You Insane

By Robert Scucci
| Published

You know what I like about older psychological thrillers? They don’t rely on an excessive amount of camera tricks to make you question the validity of a character’s reality. In films like 1987’s The Caller, there are no vivid hallucinations, and you’re seeing everything as clear as day. You’re left in the dark about a character’s origins and motives, but that’s exactly what makes it such a fun film.

A woman, simply known as The Girl (Madolyn Smith Osborne), lives alone in a remote cabin. A man, simply known as The Caller (Malcolm McDowell), shows up unannounced, asking to use her phone. The Girl is suspicious of The Caller, but The Caller’s presence and countenance suggest that he has every right to be suspicious of her. It’s such a painfully simple premise, but by the time you get to the third act, you’ll have no idea what’s going on, and in the best kind of way.

A Psychological Thriller That Truly Thrives On Mind Games

The Caller 1987

When The Caller introduces its only two characters, it lets the viewer know, in no uncertain terms, that they’re about to get epically screwed with. The Girl arrives home after running errands in town and has set the table for two. As far as you can tell, she lives alone. The Caller shows up, explains that his car has a flat tire, and asks if he can use her phone.

Immediately, she’s suspicious. She starts picking apart his story about his car’s make and model. He always has a quick answer, but sometimes those answers contradict what The Girl has actually seen and knows to be true. Other times, she starts talking about her own living situation in ways that make The Caller suspicious that she’s up to no good.

The Caller 1987

Their stories constantly change. The Girl suggests that she caused The Caller’s car trouble so he’d have no choice but to knock on her door, where she’d invite him in and kill him. The Caller suggests that he’s a police officer who was summoned to her place under the assumption that she murdered her entire family. Both characters start clocking each other for plot holes in their stories. They keep score, and make a game of it.

Each encounter that The Girl has with The Caller gets increasingly unhinged, suggesting they’ve been playing this game of cat and mouse for quite some time, and could quite possibly be trapped in a “choose-your-own-ending” kind of time loop. The evening continues to escalate, and you don’t know who you should be rooting for. The woman being relentlessly stalked by her unwanted guest? Or the hard-working police officer being manipulated by a family-annihilating woman in the middle of a psychotic episode?

More Twists Than Auntie Anne’s!

The Caller 1987

The mind games played in The Caller are brilliant in their simplicity. It’s a simple premise that slowly heats up until it reaches its boiling point. Both characters are clearly up to something. Their interactions are mostly adversarial, but sometimes surprisingly disarming. One second they’re trying to help each other along in good faith, and the very next moment they’re at each other’s throats, absolutely sure they’re going to get killed the second they let their guard down.

The grounded production makes the mystery all the more enthralling because the only mind games happening are between the characters, not tricks being forced onto the viewer to influence their interpretation either way. They’re saving the real bomb drop for the third-act reveal, which I never would have anticipated in my wildest dreams. I live for these kinds of movies, and what plays out on screen is nowhere near what I was expecting.

The Caller 1987

I normally pride myself on being able to sniff twist endings out from a mile away, but everything happens so suddenly in The Caller that I never saw it coming. It’s the kind of film you immediately want to watch a second time because you just know they were dropping clues left and right. But since you don’t know what you don’t know, you don’t think to clock them until it’s already too late.

The Caller is simple, brooding, and beyond fun if you’re tired of the same old thriller slop Netflix has been putting out lately. Tropes are subverted, motives are always floating around in muddy waters, and you truly don’t know who you’re rooting for because both characters are so manipulative. To solve the mystery that The Caller offers, you can stream it free on Tubi as of this writing.

The Sexiest Sci-Fi Dystopia Ever Made Is Buried On Peacock

The Sexiest Sci-Fi Dystopia Ever Made Is Buried On Peacock

By Jonathan Klotz
| Published

If someone told you that the sexiest sci-fi dystopia of the decade turned monogamy into a dirty word, considered sexual pleasure to be more important than, you know, the continuation of the human race, and turned public displays of affection into not only socially acceptable, but the law, you’d wonder what strange HBO series hit when you weren’t looking. Now, if that same person said that all of this was found in a Peacock original sci-fi series from 2020, you’d think they were insane. Well, it is.

Brave New World, the adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s 1932 landmark sci-fi novel, includes all of the above. It’s sexy, it looks great, and for as dark as it gets, it only skims the surface of the nearly 100-year old story.

Perfection Comes At A Price

Brave New World 2020
New London In Brave New World

Brave New World stars Alden Ehrenreich (Han Solo from Solo) as John, and Demi Moore as his mother, Linda, residents of The Savage Land. Kept around as an amusement attraction for the sophisticated residents of New London, The Savage Land includes cheap reenactments of such old-fashioned lifestyle choices as monogamy, family, and privacy. That’s because in the utopian society of New London, there’s no such thing as monogamy, privacy, or even history. Every citizen is ranked, from “A” to “F,” which leads to the surprising result when John arrives in the city and it’s discovered he’s an A-rank citizen.

Brave New World 2020
The Savage Land In Brave New World

John helped save Bernard (Harry Lloyd) and Lenina (Jessica Brown Findlay) during a worker’s revolt in the Savage Land amusement parks. His mother sacrifices herself, taking with her the secret of his parentage: he’s the son of the Director of New London. Bernard, far more of a weasel in this adaptation of the novel, tries to help John adapt to life in New London. The creative, intelligent John balks at integrating into the hedonistic utopia, instead becoming a celebrity thanks to his ability to tell a story. Turns out, living in a perfect utopia that discourages individual expression is bad for artists.

Brave New World Is A Sci-Fi Masterpiece No One Can Get Right

Brave New World 2020

Aldous Huxley’s novel had the rough edges sanded off, particularly with regards to the Savage Land, which exists in the Peacock series as an amusement park compared to an actual reservation as depicted in the source material. The inclusion of the AI Indra, a way for easy monitoring of the characters that turns New London into the largest Big Brother set imaginable, is also new for the series. It’s a smart inclusion to transform the events of the novel for a visual medium, but it also softens the creepiness of the alleged utopia.

Thankfully, what remains the same between the two is Helm (Killjoy’s Hannah John-Kamen) and her “feelies” drugs that let the residents feel any type of emotion. Pharmaceuticals have changed drastically from 1932 to today, making that particular part of Huxley’s vision much more relevant now.

Brave New World 2020

Brave New World was lambasted by critics when it premiered for its slow pace and unlikable characters, both of which are, arguably, found in the original text. The problem is that it takes too long for John to reach New London where the meat of the story takes place. Viewers turned away in droves and NBC pulled the plug on the show after only one season.

Peacock hasn’t had any success with original sci-fi series since it launched. Brave New World was the streamer’s first high-profile cancelation, and the latest in a line of failed adaptations of the complex novel. At least this time it looks good.

Kathleen Turner’s Extremely R-Rated Comedy Slasher Is An Earlier, Raunchier Scream

Kathleen Turner's Extremely R-Rated Comedy Slasher Is An Earlier, Raunchier Scream

By Robert Scucci
| Published

If you’re a horror fan, you probably think about the genre’s mainstream entries in terms of before Scream and after it. Scream changed the game because its characters, to some degree, are aware that they’re living in a slasher film. Matthew Lillard’s Stu is a horror movie expert who knows all the tropes, tricks, and rules for survival. Ghostface always has a different motive or identity, allowing the franchise to build out its lore in increasingly convoluted ways while somehow staying grounded. Most importantly, even though the gore is top notch, there are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments.

I’m not here to talk about 1996’s Scream, though, but rather 1994’s Serial Mom, a John Waters film operating on the exact same wavelength as Wes Craven’s teen-scream masterpiece, two years before it made its rounds. I’m not saying this to call out one filmmaker for ripping off another, either. Most likely, horror by the mid-90s had reached a point where audiences were bored with straight-up slashers, while more comical entries like Dr. Giggles didn’t necessarily perform well due to being so over the top. If anything, both filmmakers were simply in the same creative headspace and wanted to make something with the edge of a slasher, but humor that leaned more satirical.

Serial Mom is violent, crude, slapstick, and even features Matthew Freakin Lillard as a horror movie expert who uses genre rules as a means to survive the slayings happening in his community. This movie is nothing like Scream from a storytelling perspective, but it’s a perfect companion piece because it occupies the same lane, but with a wildly different destination.

Kathleen Turner Overdrive

Serial Mom is exactly what it sounds like. We’re introduced to Beverly Sutphin (Kathleen Turner), a picture-perfect Stepford wife type with a dark streak. While she seems perfectly sane on the surface (debatable, but just roll with it), she has a tendency to commit murder over perceived slights that bear absolutely no significance to her life. For example, somebody chewing gum loudly or wearing white shoes after Labor Day is enough to send her into a uncontrollable rage. She wants everything to be perfect, and when anything fails to live up to her psychotic standards, the cracks start to show.

When she’s not using magazine clippings to send inappropriate letters to one of her neighbors, Dottie Hinkle (Mink Stole), she’s calling her house and screaming profanities into the phone. Her son and daughter, Misty (Ricki Lake) and Chip (Matthew Lillard), are typical suburban teenagers, but they know better than to cross their mother. Especially after Chip complains about his math teacher, only for the guy to turn up dead after Beverly confronts him during a PTA meeting.

Slowly but surely, the entire community of Towson, Maryland goes on high alert as the victim count piles up, all while Beverly goes about her day completely unperturbed. Her husband Eugene has every reason to be suspicious, but like the rest of the Sutphin family, he’s terrified of her in that specific way where everybody knows better than to acknowledge the obvious problem sitting right in front of them.

The Running Gags Are The Reason To Stick Around

What truly separates Serial Mom from Scream, though, are its running gags. For one thing, Kathleen Turner looks certifiably insane in every single scene. Every shot frames Beverly’s wholesome side from one angle and her unhinged side from another, effortlessly shifting between the two and never letting the viewer feel fully confident about when she’s going to snap next. There’s a built-in tension there, and to me, that’s the movie’s funniest recurring joke.

Misty frequently has run-ins with authority figures like Detectives Pike (Scott Wesley Morgan) and Gracey (Walt MacPherson), along with other adults who all seem weirdly hot and bothered by her mere presence even though she’s barely a teenager. They share a knowing glance, then continue the scene as if absolutely nothing strange or sexually suggestive just happened.

The sight gags range from Golden Era Simpsons-level clever to downright juvenile, and Waters is clearly playing a numbers game to see how many zingers he can cram into a 93-minute slasher comedy.

The Scream Connection

The best part about Serial Mom, however, has to be its level of self-awareness. Like Scream, it knows it’s a slasher. Matthew Lillard’s characters in both films act as the bridge between fiction and real life because they’re the ones connecting the dots on a meta level and communicating them directly to the audience. In both films, they lay out the rules of the established fiction and back them up with examples from the media they consume.

At the end of the day, Serial Mom and Scream are two totally different movies doing two totally different things. Suggesting they’re alike from a storytelling perspective would be preposterous. But they are both slashers with twisted senses of humor, and they both hinge on meta-comedy that allows for their otherwise boilerplate premises to do something fresh with the slasher subgenre.

Scream plays things more seriously and is genuinely scary whenever it decides to lean into straight horror. There’s none of that in Serial Mom, which plays more like a slapstick comedy than a traditional slasher, but has just as much fun subverting expectations in its own twisted way.

As of this writing, Serial Mom is streaming free on Tubi.

Beyoncé Fans In Shock After She Gave A Rare Interview

Beyoncé on the Met Gala red carpet

Beyoncé turned heads in a bejeweled Olivier Rousteing-designed dress at the 2026 Met Gala, but that’s not what has the BeyHive raving online.

Many fans are taking to social media to express their surprise over the fact that she gave a rare interview on the red carpet, something several noted she had not done in quite some time.

Meanwhile, fans were also left disappointed after the theory suggesting she would release her “Act III” album on May 4 was shut down by her publicist.

Beyoncé gave a rare red-carpet interview during her first appearance at the Met Gala in nearly a decade. The “Single Ladies” singer wore a glitzy Olivier Rousteing-designed gown and appeared alongside her husband, Jay-Z, and daughter, Blue Ivy.

But it was her brief conversation with Vogue that left fans wanting more. In a snippet of the interview, host La La Anthony pointed out that people could “learn some red-carpet tips” from Blue Ivy based on the way she was striking poses and serving looks, to which Beyoncé replied, “Absolutely. She’s ready.”

When asked what she was most looking forward to during the evening, the singer said she simply wanted to experience the event through her daughter’s eyes, relax, and enjoy the moment. She also praised Rousteing for being “loyal” to her over the years, adding that the night was “really just about representing him.”

Fans Said The Interview Felt Like ‘Christmas’

Several fans took to social media to note how much they had missed hearing the pop star’s voice and how surprised they were that she actually stopped to chat on the carpet.

“I can’t take this, I REALLY CANT. I MISSED HER SWEET VOICE,” one fan wrote on X, while another added, “I couldn’t believe it either! I literally gasped and said, ‘she’s gonna speak?!’”

“I was thinking the same. Like, she’s holding a mic and not singing,” someone else joked. Another user wrote, “Nah, hearing her talk and it not being on a crispy tour mic has felt so weird.”

One particularly excited fan summed up the mood by writing, “Gracing us with her essence + an interview… This is early Christmas for me.”

Beyoncé Said Blue Ivy’s Met Gala Debut Felt ‘Surreal’

During her chat with Vogue on the magazine’s livestream, Beyoncé said Blue Ivy’s appearance at the Met Gala felt “surreal” as she gushed over how beautiful her daughter looked.

“She looks so beautiful. It’s incredible to be able to share with her; I think she looks so incredible,” the singer said, per PEOPLE.

Seeing Blue Ivy make her debut at the fashion event also left her grandmother, Tina Knowles, emotional. Speaking during an appearance on the “3rd Hour of Today” while promoting her best-selling book “Matriarch,” Knowles said the moment felt like “déjà vu” from Beyoncé’s early days in the spotlight.

Bey’s Publicist Shut Down ‘Act III’ Speculation

Ahead of the Met Gala, fans flooded social media with theories that Beyoncé was preparing to release her long-awaited “Act III” album on May 4.

Her recent Instagram posts, combined with her role as co-chair of the Met, left many convinced that a major announcement was imminent. However, fans were left disappointed after the speculation was shut down by the musician’s publicist.

A source close to the “Halo” singer reportedly told TODAY that the release was not happening as fans had predicted. Longtime publicist Yvette Noel-Schure also weighed in after a fan account claimed the album would drop during Met Gala week.

“This is unequivocally false!!” Noel-Schure commented on the post.

Tina Knowles Played Coy Over Beyoncé’s Album Plans

Beyoncé first announced her “Renaissance” project in 2022 as part of a planned album trilogy. The record leaned heavily into disco and dance music while paying homage to House Music and the Black pioneers who helped shape the genre.

She followed it up with the country-inspired “Cowboy Carter” in 2024. If the pattern continues, many fans believe the third installment could explore yet another genre, with rock music emerging as one of the most popular theories online.

During her appearance on TODAY, Tina played coy when asked about the release date for the highly anticipated project.

“I could tell you, but I’d have to kill you,” she joked.

Blanchard stepped on a scale in the clip, revealing that she was 108.2 pounds. “I’m not gatekeeping,” she shared. “After being released two years ago my lifestyle changed a lot — from commissary junk food to home-cooked meals and trying new foods.”

She also denied using weight-loss medications or sticking to a strict workout plan, adding, “I don’t follow a workout routine (though I’d love one), I don’t limit my diet, and I don’t use GLP-1. I wasn’t actively trying to lose weight… my whole life just changed and adjusted to freedom. 💗”

Blanchard has rebuilt her life after being released from prison in 2023 after eight years behind bars for the 2016 murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. Dee Dee is believed to have suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a mental illness where a caregiver fabricates or induces illness in another person for attention, sympathy or financial gain.

“This wasn’t an affair. That’s his girlfriend, they were dating,” Houshmandzadeh, 48, said in an appearance on the “Speakeasy” YouTube show on Wednesday. “That’s a decision he made, and she also made.”

He further alleged that “it wouldn’t surprise me” if the baby “might” belong to Vrabel, 50.

Since then, photos have emerged of them seemingly kissing in a bar in 2020 and together at a casino in 2024.

New Search Warrant Amid Search for Body

Published

Womens testimony helped convict Kristin Smart killer

Nearly 30 years after Kristin Smart disappeared, the search for her body has continued after police issued a new search warrant in connection to her 1996 disappearance.

Smart, 19, vanished from California Polytechnic State University, where she had just finished her freshman year, after she attended an off-campus party on May 25, 1996.

Paul Flores was convicted of her murder 25 years later in October 2022. While Flores, 49, was found guilty and was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison, the mystery behind Smart’s disappearance still has several unanswered questions, including where her body is.

On Wednesday, May 6, deputies with the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a house in the 500 block of East Branch Street in connection to Smart’s disappearance. The home belongs to Flores’ mother, Susan Flores, according to USA Today.

While Kristin Smart was killed in 1996, her murderer, Paul Flores, wasn’t convicted of the crime until nearly three decades later in 2022. On Us Weekly’s Uncovered, investigative journalist Kristin Thorne explained how the testimonies of two women ultimately helped convict him of Smart’s murder. Smart was murdered at the age of 19 on the […]

The sheriff’s office confirmed in a statement that same day that the investigation stemmed from a search warrant that was signed by a Superior Court judge and was related to Smart’s disappearance.

“The Sheriff’s Office remains committed to bringing Kristin home to her family,” the sheriff’s office’s statement read. “No further information is available.”

While the agency did not share any additional information, they did upload photos from the recent search. Officers were photographed talking outside of the home, as well as walking through an outdoor garden on the property and in a garage that stored many household items.

“Your Own Backyard” podcast, which is about Smart’s disappearance, reported that deputies served Flores’ mother on her doorstep at 7:05 a.m.

Back in March 2021, Flores’ father Ruben Flores’ property was searched with ground-penetrating radar in connection to Smart’s disappearance. The search resulted in both Flores men being arrested. Ruben was arrested as an accessory to murder, though he was later acquitted of the charge.

During the search, authorities found a 6-foot by 4-foot void under Ruben’s deck and took several soil samples from the area. The samples tested positive for the presence of human blood, which led prosecutors to believe that Smart’s body was removed from that location some time prior to the search.

Smart’s disappearance was a topic covered on Us Weekly’s Uncovered. San Luis Obispo Tribune reporter Chloe Jones, who covered Flores’ trial and has spoken with Smart’s parents, told investigative journalist Kristin Thorne that the Smart family still hoped to find her body.

“They still don’t have a body, and all they want to do is have her body, have that closure to lay her to rest,” Jones said. “They’re still in a lot of pain, they’re still hurting. They still feel like, even though the trial’s done, they don’t have that closure that they’d like.”
