How to Carry Your ID Badge Without Ruining Your Outfit

Security badges are now part of office life for everyone from BigLaw associates to biotech researchers — but most badge solutions are weirdly designed for cargo pants and polos, not silk blouses and midi dresses. We haven’t discussed ID badge solutions in a while, so let’s hear it: how do you wear your work badge when your outfit doesn’t have pockets? Do you have a favorite lanyard, badge reel, magnet, or other workaround?
Chic Ways to Carry Your ID Badge (Especially if You Don’t Have Pockets)
Lanyards

No, these aren’t ideal — but they are practical. Polished options include leather holders from Leatherology, Coach, Maison de Sabre, Prada, Louis Vuitton, or Hermès. You can also find a lot of brightly colored ribbons and more on Etsy, as well as ones that look like gold necklaces. The pictured lanyard is $105 at Nordstrom; you can also find it at MaisondeSabre.com.
Bracelets For Your Access Badge

Bracelet-style badge holders can be handy if you want to stay hands-free without wearing a lanyard around your neck. The pictured coiled bracelet is a bestseller at Amazon (under $5), although it probably works best for lighter badges or keycards.
Carry a Leather Padfolio With You

Longtime readers know the office padfolio has always been one of my must-haves for the office — it’s basically a notebook that zips closed… so you can keep a variety of things in it, including your ID badge. (I’ve always kept lip gloss, Post-it notes, tape flags, and more so they’re accessible during meetings… it’s also a discreet way to carry feminine products if you’re away from your office for long periods.)
Smythson’s beautiful padfolio is pictured above, but you can also find them at discount spots like Amazon, Target, or Walmart. If you want something monogrammed, in addition to Smythson check out Etsy, Leatherology, Levenger.
Wear a third piece with a pocket just for this purpose

A blazer or sweater jacket can solve a surprising number of workwear problems — including where to stash your badge. Patch pockets are usually functional, and many blazers also have hidden pockets that simply need to be opened by snipping the temporary stitching. (The pictured blazer with patch pockets is $399-$599 at MM.LaFleur.)
Magnetic Badge Holders
This is my preferred choice if it’s just a nametag at a conference or whatnot. You can find magnetic holders that attach directly to clothing, as well as magnetic sleeves designed to keep a badge secure inside a pocket or tote. This holder from Amazon was recommended on Reddit as being a good option; if you want something even simpler you can get clear badge sleeves with magnets or even just the magnets.
Retractable Badge Reels.
These can be great if you’re carrying a bag or have someplace else to clip the badge reel, and they’re certainly affordable — you can buy some on Amazon for less than $5.
Readers, over to you — how do you wear ID badges with dresses or outfits that don’t have pockets? Do you have any favorite lanyards? What other solutions have you found?

What Beauty Routines Are Worth It To You?

Here’s a fun little question for today: what beauty or self-maintenance routines actually feel worth it to you these days?
I’m thinking mostly about recurring appointments and upkeep like hair color, facials, Botox, massages, manicures, waxing, lashes, laser treatments, etc. — but I’d also love to hear about anything else that takes regular time, money, or effort and still earns a permanent place in your routine.
Do you:
- color your hair or get root touchups regularly?
- get massages, facials, or other wellness appointments?
- do Botox or other anti-aging treatments? (here’s a link to our last discussion on “aging intentionally“)
- keep up with manicures, lashes, waxing, threading, or similar salon maintenance?
- have any standing appointments that take real logistical effort but still feel worth it?
- used to do more upkeep than you do now?
I feel like my own routines have changed a lot over the years. This is partly because life got busier, partly because priorities changed, and partly because aging itself changes the equation. I still love the idea of regular massages, for example, but I get them very irregularly. I used to thread my eyebrows every 6 weeks or so, but one of the strange “perks” of aging is that there’s simply less hair growth to manage. Other maintenance issues went away due to choices I made — my laser hair removal worked so well that I almost never think about shaving anymore.
Have your routines changed over time? Have you streamlined things intentionally, or are there services/products you now consider absolutely worth the upkeep?

Suit of the Week: Reiss

For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits for women, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional. Also: we just updated our big roundup for the best women’s suits of 2026!
Personally, I am not a fan of polka dots — but I can appreciate them as an abstractly chic concept, and we’ve definitely featured other polka-dot suits before. (I seem to remember a great one from Eloquii.) But: I can’t remember seeing a polka dot suit from a high end brand like this one: Reiss!
I love that they have a lot of polka dot pieces right now, including the inverse of this — I would absolutely wear this white and navy suit with the navy and white blouse!
The suiting pieces include trousers and the double-breasted blazer, both in regular and petite sizes, and (sigh) some matching shorts. Pieces are $235-$498.

Barefoot in Bloom – Julia Berolzheimer
Outfit Details: Julia Amory Dress, SPRWMN Bikini, Janessa Leone Hat, Amazon Sunglasses
Florals look different by the water than they do at a garden party. They get brighter, looser, sunnier — the kind of blooms that belong with bare feet and salt air. They show up embroidered on a caftan, covering a swimsuit, or crawling up a linen matching set.
I like to keep the styling light from there, leaning on pieces with natural texture to compliment the print or motif. A woven bag, a flat sandal, a piece of shell jewelry, an easy hair accessory.
It’s floral dressing with more freedom, made for sun-filled plans built around color, texture, and bare feet.

The Fragrance Wardrobe, Simplified
Most women who own perfume own too much of it. A shelf of seven or eight bottles, bought across as many years, and the same one or two getting reached for every morning while the rest sit there slowly oxidizing. The problem is not taste. It is that nobody told her what roles a fragrance […]

Wednesday’s Workwear Report: Belted Fit & Flare Cotton-Blend Shirtdress

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.
I live in cotton shirtdresses once the weather starts heating up, and this one from Ralph Lauren looks like a real winner. For a staple piece like this one, it really comes down to the little things, and for me, the elbow-length sleeves, removable belt, and pockets are what make this one shine.
Add some great shoes and you’re ready for just about anything.
The dress is $155 at Nordstrom and comes in sizes 14W-22W.

How much, on average, does a custom suit cost in New York City?
If you’ve ever walked into a tailor’s shop in New York City and asked about a custom suit, you already know how quickly the conversation can get overwhelming. Prices vary wildly, tailors speak in different terms, and it’s hard to know whether you’re about to get a great deal or overpay for something you could […]
