Student and NHS discounts at schuh

Students by far get the most value at schuh. If you’re a student, you’ll need to verify your university status via UNiDAYS or directly with schuh, and you’ll get 10 per cent off full-priced orders. You’ll also get double points on every order – that means two points per £1 spent, which results in a £5 voucher after spending £50 at schuh.

If that wasn’t enough, schuh boosts the student discount to 20 per cent during peak periods of the year. This is normally during the back-to-school period and Black Friday.

Likewise, schuh works with Blue Light Card to offer 10 per cent off to emergency, NHS and armed forces. These have occasionally been increased to 20 per cent, for example during Black Friday.

Shop the schuh sale

Another way to save at schuh is by shopping the sale. There are discounts of up 70 per cent on trainers, boots and formal footwear, from brands including adidas, Birkenstock, New Balance and more.

Discounted ex-display footwear

Another way to save at schuh is by shopping ex-display footwear. Formally known as “schuh imperfects”, these former display items can be discounted by as much as 90 per cent. Quickly filter by department and your shoe size to see which ex-display items meet your criteria.

We’re pleased to see that schuh clearly describes what damage the shoe has, in the product information section. It can be anything from a slight scuff to mild discolouration. These issues are well-documented in the images too, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Keep in mind that ex-display items can’t be returned in store. If you have any issues, there is an option to return by post.

Recycle your old shoes

Sustainability is a key value for schuh, and its ’selling your soles’ initiative gives customers £5 off a new pair of shoes when recycling an old pair, even if they were purchased elsewhere.

You will be required to visit a schuh store to donate the shoes. Once they are inspected and deemed quality enough to donate, you will receive a schuh promo code that can be used online or in-store for £5 off orders above £25.

Free delivery

If you spend £80 or more at schuh, you’ll get free delivery. Your order must contain full-price items to qualify for free delivery. Keep in mind that if your order only contains sale items, you must pay £3.99 regardless of minimum spend.

If you want to receive your item faster than the two to three working days (aka standard delivery), schuh has a free same day click and collect option.

Returns policy

Make sure to pay attention to the schuh returns policy because it has changed a couple of times in the past year. Items can still be returned within 365 days if they are in their original condition and packaging. However, all returns by post now cost £3.99, including for myschuh customers, so keep this in mind before you order.

Founded in 1981 in Edinburgh, the shop was originally going to be named “lizard shoes”. Then, founder Sandy was inspired by a German fashion footwear magazine and changed the name to schuh (German for “shoe”). Whilst many have mistaken the retailer as German, it didn’t open its first store in the country until 2015.

Fast forward to now, it has 132 stores in the UK and Ireland and sells more than 80 brands of shoes, including New Balance, Dr Martens, Ugg and Birkenstock. schuh also has its own label that leans into trends with everything from ballet flats and loafers, to biker boots. No matter the occasion or your style, schuh has it.

Daisy Lester, our senior shopping writer, covers all things fashion at IndyBest, from the best ballet flats to the best affordable designer bags.
