ERDEM at The Met Gala 2026

ERDEM at The Met Gala 2026

The red carpet met the gallery floor as ERDEM at The Met Gala 2026 delivered one of the evening’s most talked-about fusions of high fashion and historical art. Embracing the year’s theme, “Fashion is Art,” Erdem Moralıoğlu looked to the brushstrokes of the past to dress his muse, Claire Foy. The look was a breathtaking dialogue between 19th-century portraiture and modern British utility, proving that bespoke evening wear can find its most striking partner in the most unexpected of places. By reimagining a scandalous historical silhouette through a contemporary lens, ERDEM cemented its reputation as a storyteller of the cloth.

A woman (head and lower legs cropped out) wearing brown wide-leg pants and a brown-and-white polka dot topA woman (head and lower legs cropped out) wearing brown wide-leg pants and a brown-and-white polka dot top

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

How pretty is the print on this jersey top from Universal Standard? It’s giving me some Julia Roberts at the polo match in Pretty Woman vibes, but in a slightly more modern way. This would be a great option for wearing under suits and blazers this summer because the cap sleeves still give plenty of coverage if you have to take your jacket off.

If the dot pattern isn’t your thing, it also comes in five solids, including a lipstick red and a beautiful dark green.

The top is $98 at Universal Standard and comes in sizes that are equivalent to standard sizes 00-40.

Sales of note for 5/8:

  • Nordstrom – Savings event – up to 25% off! Good deals on Veronica Beard, Vince, Reiss (esp. coats), and Boss, as well as Wit & Wisdom and NYDJ
  • Ann Taylor – Mother’s Day Event: 40% off your purchase. Readers love this popover blouse, and their suiting is also in the sale.
  • Boden – 15% off new styles with code
  • Express – $39+ summer styles + 25% off everything else
  • J.Crew – Up to 50% off swim, dresses, and more
  • J.Crew Factory – Up to 60% off everything, and extra 50% off clearance
  • Lands’ End – 50% off sitewide — lots of ponte dresses come down under $25, and this packable raincoat in gingham is too cute

  • Loft – 50% off your purchase + free shipping, plus 2 for $28 tanks and tees

Pink Notes – Julia Berolzheimer

Pink Notes - Julia Berolzheimer

Another Tomorrow Dress (more sizes here), Tory Burch NecklaceDi Gaia SandalsWandler Bag

I keep coming back to pink. It first caught my eye on the SS26 runway shows a few months ago, where Victoria Beckham’s take really stood out, and it’s stayed with me since, finding its way into what I’ve been adding to cart for upcoming travels and to bring some new color into my summer wardrobe. The shades I’m drawn to right now feel lighter than those of past seasons. Warm, vibrant, and flushed, or on the other hand, almost a whisper of rose. It feels like a pretty in pink moment, but in a way that’s fresh and current.

Lately, it’s been showing up in the relaxed silhouettes I want to reach for during the week. A soft pink jean, a slightly dressier pair with a sheen for date night, and an easy linen shirt dress with subtle stripes. Pieces that act as the whole outfit, where the color does the styling for me.

Pink has more styling range than most colors you’d usually reach for. From blush to rose to coral, and even worked in through stripes, it adds depth without heaviness. The finishing pieces are where it really comes together—beaded jewelry, tinted frames, satin bags—small details in the right shade that pull the whole look in.

Rihanna stepped out on Mother’s Day alongside A$AP Rocky in a coordinated street style moment that balanced tailoring with accessories. The singer wore an oversized black suit featuring strong shoulders and wide-leg trousers, paired with pointed snakeskin pumps and oversized shield sunglasses. She accessorized with layered jewelry and carried a woven Chanel top-handle bag along with a burgundy quilted tote.

For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits for women, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional. Also: we just updated our big roundup for the best women’s suits of 2026!

I found this fun suit while updating our guide to the most affordable interview suits.

(I wouldn’t wear a gingham suit to an interview, but it is a nice option for spring and summer.)

The blazer is $120, available in sizes XXS-XXL, and the pants are available in regular, long, and curvy options, on sale for $59. There’s also a matching vest on sale for $45.

Looking for something similar? Boden has a linen gingham blazer (with, sigh, matching shorts).

The History of Metallic Details in Fashion Goes Way Beyond Just Luster

Published

on

Image
Image

A touch of metal can make everything seem so much shinier. Think chrome dresses, a metal-pleated skirt, or shimmering gold zippers. The effect is dazzling and glamorous, well-suited to different social occasions. No wonder then that metal has been a core component of fashion for years.

However, the relationship between metal and fashion is not based solely on luster. Anyone who has witnessed the effect of armor up close (think Gladiator) or studied creative representations of Joan of Arc and her headdresses knows the sheer power that metal can exude.

Whether you are a fashion trendsetter or follower, you will likely find much to enjoy in the prominent themes defining this relationship, from unexpected surprises to creative visions. We promise.

Of Clean Lines and Cold, Unflinching Strength

One of the most eye-catching yet oldest uses of metal in clothing remains in armory. The classic silver suits with their clear, taut lines allowed warriors to deliver their best when faced by their enemies. No fussiness over loose clothes coming in the way of true-blue triumph.

That’s not to say artisans of the past ignored art when designing these garments. The Conversation examines fascinating armors from history, such as the Landsknecht costume of 1523. It was similar to a courtly dress, complete with puffed sleeves and embroidery. It even depicted popular tailoring techniques of the times, but all from steel.

The ability of metals like iron to withstand attack and rough use allowed the wearers to use their armor for years of service. That’s early evidence of lasting and functional fashion for you.

Moreover, metal outfits also showed off the silhouette of muscles well: extra points to warriors who took good care of themselves. It may have stirred apprehension and fear in the minds of their opponents. Why mess with someone whose aura radiates cold and unshakeable strength?

Realizing Brand Aesthetic and Reliability

As time moved on from the battlefield (thankfully), fashion began using metal to make lasting parts of clothing and accessories, from zips to trims and belt buckles.

Interestingly, zips were first called slide fasteners. One of their earliest uses was to support the US Navy’s windproof flying suits. Naturally, it made perfect sense to use metal for something so crucial.

Today, the fashion world uses zippers of various kinds, from metal and coil to molded plastic. Our use cases have expanded from sealing clothes to adding convenience or making a style statement. The available materials have also increased accordingly.

For some brands, the quality and design of the small elements of their creations are a huge tell. Ardent followers use these nuances to distinguish between real and rip-off.

This is also why fashion brands prefer to work with partners who understand that the devil rests in the details. Talon International recommends understanding the brand’s creative vision to integrate it into each product. Seemingly minor elements also undergo meticulous testing in these times when trust and authenticity reign in the fashion world.

Bringing Metal Into the Mainstream

Now, of course, metal has reached the sensibilities of modern fashion-forward audiences. People don’t shy away from flaunting unique style statements that reflect their interests.

Hence, the rising popularity of metallic skirts and gold or silver bags. The dazzling top and structured blazer look is also in vogue. The 2026 Golden Globes night was full of metallics: from Chase Infiniti in her silver metallic bustier to Kate Hudson in gunmetal and rhinestones.

More than the luster of the materials, these style profiles are a testimony to the wearer’s individuality and boldness. Here are people who aren’t afraid to add dazzle to their everyday, judgmental stares notwithstanding. Plus, the sheer potential of metallics to be molded into stunning forms is a fascinating canvas for designers to explore.

From a Shiny Past to a Sustainable Future

One thing going not so well for conventional metals in fashion is the growing sustainability debate. How durable and eco-friendly are these choices in our present, climate-change-riddled world?

Industry experts explain that metallics and glitter can harm aquatic life and humankind. Using heavy metals poses the risk of their breaking off into harmful particles during wear and washing. Since metallic fibers and textiles often use aluminum and polyester, this poses significant environmental risks.

Many fashion houses are now experimenting with green chemicals and more sustainable processes. The idea is to achieve the metallic trendiness without the downsides. The World Economic Forum also recommends using recycled content to reduce CO2 and the associated chemical usage.

From strength and vanity to resilience and uniqueness, metallics in fashion have served numerous purposes over the years. In the modern world, our priorities are shifting to a greater need for sustainable solutions. Relying on recycled materials for metallic fashion and cultivating a longer-lasting cycle than fast fashion can help meet this need.

Meanwhile, let’s continue to admire the raw awe that metallics exude, granting many wearers greater confidence and elan.

The stars stepped out in an array of structured tailoring, couture silhouettes, and statement prints for the Disney Upfront 2026 presentation in New York City. From Angela Bassett’s rose-embroidered velvet suiting to Lindsay Lohan’s sculptural couture gown, the event delivered a mix of polished daytime glamour and fashion-forward detailing. Gabourey Sidibe opted for a black off-the-shoulder Eloquii dress adorned with oversized metallic polka dots. The curve-hugging silhouette featured long sleeves and a thigh-high slit, paired with metallic heels. The reflective embellishments added dimension to the monochromatic look.

Emma Roberts arrived in a strapless rose print mini dress from the BluMarine Pre-Fall 2026 collection. The structured corseted bodice featured gold hardware accents down the center, while the sculptural bubble skirt added volume and shape. Roberts styled the look with sheer black tights and pointed black pumps.
