50 Years Later, the Japanese Icon That Launched an $80B Franchise Is Officially Coming to Live-Action
Another major Japanese franchise is heading to Hollywood. With anime becoming a dominant force in streaming and, recently, the box office, and Pokémon listed as the world’s highest-grossing media franchise since its inception in 1996, it’s no surprise that another franchise wants a piece of the Western audience by expanding its presence in an upcoming project.
Another popular Japanese character you may have heard of is Hello Kitty, from Sanrio. It is the 10th-highest-grossing global franchise, sitting between Harry Potter and Call of Duty, and was introduced in 1974. Since then, this character has appeared in many animated TV shows and web series. Additionally, the Hello Kitty franchise expanded, introducing other beloved characters. In 2019, it was announced that Hello Kitty would be getting her first movie from New Line Cinemas, and years later, there has been a major update.
In a recent report, it was announced that the Hello Kitty movie is scheduled to come out in two years, and it has tapped Moana 2 director David Derrick Jr and Ultraman: Rising‘s John Aoshima to co-direct the project, which has now found a home at Warner Bros. This Hello Kitty feature will reportedly be a live-action/animation hybrid movie, and the project also tapped Ramsey Naito (The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie) and Beau Flynn (Black Adam), as producers, and also includes Chaos Walking screenwriter, Lindsey Beer.
What To Watch If You Like Hello Kitty?
The plot for the Hello Kitty movie has yet to be revealed. But in the meantime, there are Sanrio projects you can stream while you wait. The first that comes to mind is the Netflix show My Melody & Kuromi. This is a Japanese stop-motion animation series that premiered in 2025, following My Melody and Kuromi’s “rivalry” in Mariland as Kuromi seeks to surpass My Melody’s baking. Meanwhile, YouTube is home to many Hello Kitty content, ranging from shorts to online web series. Hello Kitty and Friends Supercute Adventures is one of the most recent web series and it’s available to stream on the Hello Kitty and Friends YouTube channel and has released over 170 videos, spanning 13 seasons as of writing. In 2019, Hello Kitty had a crossover with Mobile Suit Gundam called Gundam vs Hello Kitty. This crossover only had three episodes, has a My Anime List score of 6.65, and starred Megumi Hayashibara (Pokémon Horizons: The Series) as Hello Kitty and Mobile Suit Gundam star, Toru Furuya as Amuro Ray.
The Hello Kitty film is scheduled to enter theaters on July 21, 2028. Follow Collider for more updates.

Mindy Kaling Opens Up About Pressure Of Losing Weight
While Mindy Kaling doesn’t necessarily love the idea of her body being a topic of conversation online, she’s grown accustomed to it. In a new interview, the “Running Point” creator opened up about her weight-loss journey, which has garnered massive attention over the years. According to Kaling, 46, she began taking her health journey seriously not for herself, but for those closest to her.

Speaking with Bustle, Kaling said going through a body transformation as a public figure can be mentally challenging, especially when fans share their unfiltered thoughts about a person’s new look.
“It’s sometimes no fun when one of your favorite actors loses weight. You have an idea of what they were like when you grew attached to them, and it made them endear themselves to you,” she said. “Of course, it’s never a joy to be scrutinized, but also I truly understand it, as someone who consumes pop culture.”
Kaling is familiar with being a topic of conversation; however, the actress revealed that her desire to lose weight wasn’t to quiet the outside noise. She said that it was to “live at least 20 more years,” nodding to her three children, Kit, Spencer, and Anne.
Mindy Kaling Still Battles Negative Thoughts About Her Body Like Other People

Kaling, who has reportedly lost over 40 pounds, admitted that while she’s hit major milestones, she still struggles with her body image.
“Do I wake up every day being like, ‘I look amazing and I’m so gorgeous’? No, unsurprisingly, but I truly feel so healthy,” she said.
According to Kaling, her reason for losing weight has shifted over the years, stating that in the past she “would want to lose weight for vanity reasons.”
Today, Kaling said her fitness journey is more about preventing health issues such as diabetes. “I had it on both sides of my family, and trying to avoid those kinds of things will, I think, help longevity for me, and that’s my goal,” she said.
Mindy Kaling Previously Said That Being ‘Skinny’ Isn’t Her Goal

This, of course, isn’t the first time that Kaling has spoken out about her body or fitness goals. In 2014, she spoke with Vogue and admitted she still struggles with insecurities about her public image.
“There’s a whole list of things I would probably change about myself,” she said, revealing that she’s “always” trying to lose 15 pounds. But even then, Kaling said her goal isn’t to be “skinny.”
“I don’t want to be skinny. I’m constantly in a state of self-improvement, but I don’t beat myself up over it,” she said.
Elsewhere in the interview, Kaling said that she’ll also experiment with different looks when she’s fluctuating between sizes. “When I’m at my thinnest, I tend to wear things that don’t show off my body,” she said.
“But when I’m bigger, I’ll go body-con, which comes from a place of ‘This is my perimeter, in case you were wondering if I was actually much bigger,’” she added.
Other Celebs Have Shared A Similar Message

And Kaling isn’t alone in her feelings. According to PEOPLE, Grammy-winning singer Lizzo shared a similar message in 2024, revealing that her weight loss journey had caused confusion among her fans.
Lizzo went on to say that while she was actively working on changing her body, her plan was never to be “thin.”
“I’ve always loved moving my body. I’ve always loved working out,” she said. “I’m very holistically conscious, like I am very hippie-dippie and woo woo when it comes to food and supplements and just thinking about my body and the environment, and I think a lot of people see a fat person that way and immediately just assume everything they’re doing is to be thin. I’m not tryna be thin. I don’t ever want to be thin.”
Lizzo Once Called Herself A ‘Body Icon’

In a previous interview, Lizzo, known as a vocal leader in the body-positivity movement, said she was proud of how she presents herself to the public.
“I think I have a really hot body! I’m a body icon, and I’m embracing that more and more every day,” she said. “It may not be one person’s ideal body type just like, say, Kim Kardashian might not be someone’s ideal, but she’s a body icon and has created a modern-day beauty standard. And what I’m doing is stepping into my confidence and my power to create my own beauty standard. And one day that will just be the standard.”

Kyle Cooke Details West Wilson Voice Note, Plans to Talk
Kyle Cooke recently reached out to West Wilson amid the ongoing scandal embroiling Bravo’s Summer House.
On the Tuesday, May 19, episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Kyle, 43, opened up about a recent voice note he sent to West, 31, who confirmed his burgeoning romance with Kyle’s estranged wife, Amanda Batula, in March. (Kyle and Amanda announced their separation in January.)
“One thing I made clear is that I will never, ever, ever say that I won’t film with someone,” Kyle said of the voice note. “I’m not trying to ruin your career. I’m not trying to ruin your reputation. I wanted to make it clear that, like, ‘Look, we will hash this out at some point. I’m not ready right now. But at some point I’d love to have a convo.’”
Kyle’s Summer House costar Lindsay Hubbard, who was also a guest on Tuesday’s WWHL, then asked him when he plans to sit down with West.
“Rumor has it tomorrow,” Kyle teased, leading to shocked reactions from Lindsay and host Andy Cohen.
During a recent appearance on the “Reality Nightcap” podcast, Kyle said he hadn’t spoken to West since filming the Summer House season 10 reunion in April, but they had communicated over text message recently.
“West did text me last week,” Kyle said earlier in May, per Reality Blurb. “I sent him a voice memo because I just felt like it was gonna take forever for me to put words down. I mean, look, I’m not the kinda guy that holds grudges.”
“Obviously, this is a very unfortunate situation. I don’t think people really realize just how close we were. So it’s just tough. This is uncharted territory for me,” Kyle added. “I don’t know. I’ve obviously never gone through something like this, but I don’t even think I have a friend who’s gone through something like this, so I don’t know what the protocol is. I don’t know what the playbook is.”
West and Amanda, 34, confirmed that they were seeing one another in a joint Instagram statement in March, which blindsided the Summer House cast and Bravo fans. West previously dated Amanda’s best friend, Ciara Miller.
“We’ve seen the growing online speculation, so while this is still very new, we wanted to provide some clarity,” West and Amanda shared at the time. “It was never our intention to purposely hide anything. Given the complicated relationship dynamics involved and the scrutiny that comes with being on a reality show, we needed a little space to process things privately before speaking on it.”
“We’ve shown up for each other as friends over the years, through all the highs and lows, and what’s developed recently was the last thing either of us expected,” they continued. “Our connection grew out of a genuine, longstanding friendship, which made it especially important for us to approach this with care.”
The statement concluded, “As our feelings evolved, we wanted to take time to understand exactly what we were feeling. We also recognize that this has had an impact beyond just us and never wanted our actions to cause any hurt or be perceived as careless. We truly appreciate the understanding and respect as we navigate this.”

‘Survivor’ Winner Turns Alliance Into Tech Venture
Popular “Survivor” duo Kyle Fraser and Kamilla Karthigesu are taking their partnership beyond reality television with the launch of a new tech venture.
Fraser and Karthigesu, whose Season 48 alliance helped the former secure the win, have now co-founded an app called Paprclip.
The platform is designed to go beyond traditional wellness tools, serving as a social accountability space where users can track their progress and stay committed to personal goals with community support.
Speaking in a recent interview with Tech Crunch, Fraser shared that he and Karthigesu were inspired to create the app after he had to leave the 50th season of “Survivor” due to an injury.
He explained that the injury, along with other personal developments in his life, including his wife’s pregnancy, made him realize he needed “organization, but also accountability and a push from different people.”
Those circumstances ultimately sparked the idea for Paprclip, and even in its early stages, he knew he wanted it to be different from what was already on the market.
“I thought, there’s so many habit trackers in the world and so many productivity tools, but there’s nothing that allows you to really do things together,” he remarked.
Fraser Explains Paprclip’s Social Focus

For Fraser, it was important that his app had a social angle and was not focused solely on individual use.
“As corny as it sounds, you’ll always hear me say ‘people, people, people,’ that is what I feel has made me most successful,” he said.
His decision is tied to his belief that many people in his life helped him achieve his personal goals, including being cast on and ultimately winning “Survivor.” For him, Paprclip became a way to give back by helping others receive similar support.
“I thought, why not try to develop a product that leans into something that’s helped me so significantly?” the reality star further remarked.
Kyle Fraser Wants Paprclip To Go Beyond Fitness

Doubling down on his explanation of the app’s social angle, Fraser emphasized that his ultimate goal is to see Paprclip evolve into a “social accountability” platform.
He believes that would set it apart from other fitness apps that already include some form of community feature.
“I don’t see it solely as a health and wellness app. In fact, if Paprclip is functioning the way I want it to, I think people will realize that they can use it for whatever they want, people who are trying to get into different hobbies like cooking, or painting, or different endeavors. This is a social accountability app,” the “Survivor” star said.
Kamilla Karthigesu Led The Tech Behind Paprclip
While Fraser’s experience inspired the app, he leaned on Karthigesu to help bring the idea to life.
The Season 50 jurist has several years of experience as a senior software engineer at Discord and has also worked at Yahoo, Facebook, and Deloitte Canada.
“Just like in the game, I would come to Kamilla with a problem… Like a puzzle, or like, ‘Kamilla, I have this crazy idea, can we pull it off?’ It literally happened in real life, where I was like, Kamilla, I want to do this,” Fraser told the outlet about reconnecting with Karthigesu to create the app.
Together, they brought in additional developers and designers to build Paprclip rather than rely on AI. According to Fraser, the decision was intentional: since the app is designed for people, it should ultimately be created by people.
Paprclip Lets Users Share Progress Clips
While using the app, individuals can compete in daily challenges that are often randomized and designed to help them step outside their comfort zones.
All challenges are designed with input from licensed clinical therapists, ensuring they remain safe and appropriate for users. Badges are also awarded upon completion of each challenge.
Beyond those features, another standout aspect of Paprclip is that users can upload short-form clips documenting their progress. These clips can be kept private or shared more widely across other social media platforms if the user chooses.
At present, the first full iteration of the design has been completed ahead of the app’s upcoming Kickstarter debut.

Taylor Swift Snaps Selfies as Travis Kelce’s Date at Wedding
As Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding approaches, the singer got into the spirit of things at the nuptials of a fellow couple.
Two selfies snapped by Swift, 36, captured her enjoying the festivities of Kansas City Chiefs’ George Karlaftis’ May 9 wedding to Kaia Harris, with the pop star posing alongside guests as she grinned and puckered up her lips for the camera.
Shared via an X fan account on Tuesday, May 19, the photos showed Swift, who is set to marry Kelce, also 36, this summer, rocking her signature cat eye and red lip makeup, wispy bangs, a pendant necklace and drop earrings as four delighted guests beamed beside her.
An additional snap from the night, shared in a separate post via the same X fan account, provided a full-length look at Swift’s selected gown: a “Blue Mermaid” silk-linen Zimmermann dress from the Australian label’s 2026 Cruise Collection that features a flare skirt and corset bodice.
The “Opalite” hitmaker paired the ethereal design with white peep-toe heels.
A report by People, published on May 11, detailed that Karlaftis, 25, and Harris’ wedding was a three-day celebration staged in Greece that drew 220 guests to Glyfada’s One&Only Aesthesis resort.

Karlaftis, a defensive end for the Chiefs, reflected on his big day while speaking to the outlet after everyone had returned home. “I didn’t know how everyone would blend, bringing our Greek family and friends, and all of our friends from different parts of our lives, together,” the athlete said. “The first night, I had 25 different worlds colliding. We have such cool friends, and the people we invited were just the best; everyone got along, made new friends, and danced together. I couldn’t have asked for a better day and night, honestly.”

Last month, Us Weekly exclusively revealed details into Swift and Kelce’s own upcoming wedding, which is set to be staged in Rhode Island on June 13. A source told Us that the festivities will likely be split between Swift’s $189 million Rhode Island mansion and a local five-star resort, Ocean House. “The guest list grew, so the ceremony and private gatherings associated with the wedding [will be split between the venues],” the insider said while cautioning that the singer may still have other places in mind. “Taylor always has a plan B and C for every scenario.”
Another source told Us that the couple, who announced their engagement in August 2025, have invited about 150 guests. “It won’t be a huge wedding, but there will be many celebrities,” the insider said.

The first source added that the wedding will not be a “massive blow-out” and haven’t mailed hard copy invitations to loved ones. Additionally, Us learned that Swift will get ready with her BFFs despite not having any formal bridesmaids. “She has already asked her close girlfriends, like Selena [Gomez] and Gigi [Hadid], to sleep over at her Rhode Island home the night before the wedding.”

Celebrity Name-Drops in Hayden Panettiere’s This Is Me Memoir
Hayden Panettiere name-dropped several celebrity friends and exes in debut memoir This Is Me: A Reckoning.
“I think people will be surprised by what they learn,” Panettiere, 36, told Us Weekly in her cover story published in May 2026, revealing that she was “terrified” to tell her story.
“The first thought that went through my head is, ‘Am I ready to write a book about my life?’” the actress shared. “Then I started thinking through my life and going, ‘Gosh, truth is stranger than fiction. I have so many stories already to share.’ I hope that by sharing them in this book, that it helps people to overcome the obstacles they’re going through.”
Panettiere experienced several ups and downs throughout her life, which are discussed at length in the book. But she also reflected on stories involving other stars.
Keep scrolling for a breakdown of the biggest celebrity name drops from Panettiere’s memoir:

The ‘Panic Room’ Movie Experience
Panettiere wrote that she was cast as Nicole Kidman’s daughter in the movie Panic Room. After Kidman hurt herself on set, she was forced to pull out of the role, which halted production. There was apparently a conversation about Angelina Jolie joining the film.
Eventually, Jodie Foster replaced Kidman in the film. However, Panettiere was also recast with Kristen Stewart. According to Panettiere’s book, producers didn’t think she looked enough like Foster.
She wrote that she “never got an explanation as to why, and at the time, I accepted it, even though I was incredibly sad.”
Reflecting on a Relationship with Stephen Colletti
At the height of Heroes and Laguna Beach, Panettiere recalled Stephen Colletti being her “first Hollywood boyfriend.”
The actress wrote that she “didn’t really” watch his show when it was on TV. However, Panettiere saw him in a magazine and her publicist introduced them.
Being Around Lindsay Lohan
Panettiere wrote that it was “mesmerizing” watching Lindsay Lohan during the early 2000s.
“I was around 13 when I first met Lindsay and she’d always been warm and friendly with me, but I thought of her as one of the consummate cool girls,” the actress recalled. “She always seemed completely in her element, talking to anyone and everyone. I remember watching her in awe from across the room, and I was convinced she was born to be in situations like this.”
Dating ‘Heroes’ Costar Milo Ventimiglia
Panettiere and Milo Ventimiglia “became a thing” while doing international press for Heroes. She was 18 at the time and their age gap made major headlines. Eventually he broke up with her.
Looking back, Panettiere knew she “wasn’t really in love with Milo” but it was “something stable” in her life at the time. “He’d pulled the rug out from under me,” she wrote.
Crossing Paths With Anthony Kiedis
The actress recalled chatting with the Red Hot Chili Peppers singer, noting that “he was way too old for me” in the book. Panettiere claimed that she and Kiedis were on the verge of crossing a line from “harmless flirtation into something more intentional.”
Some Very Famous Neighbors
Panettiere recalled living close by Bill Murray and Bjork when moving to a house in Congers, New York.
Joining the ‘Scream’ Franchise
Panettiere worked with longtime friends Emma Roberts and Rory Culkin on Scream 4 when making her debut as Kirby Reed. Neve Campbell rented a property with cottages on it for the cast where she did mushrooms with her friends and invited David Arquette over.
Filming ‘Nashville’ With Connie Britton
The actress noted that working on Nashville was different from Heroes. They were not “one big happy family,” she wrote. Panettiere noted that she wasn’t close to anyone on the cast and “couldn’t figure it out.”
Elsewhere, she also discussed the dynamic she shared with costar Connie Britton, revealing that she grew concerned over her character Juliette Barnes’ rivalry with Britton’s Rayna James.
“My character wasn’t intended to be the show’s star — not even close,” Panettiere wrote. “That honor went to Connie, whose Rayna Jaymes was in the twilight of her career, facing a dramatic turning point thanks to yours truly.”
She continued, “Unfortunately, after the pilot, it was clear that my billing had gone way up. I went from maybe number five in terms of importance to nipping at Connie’s heels. I was deeply uncomfortable with this development.”

Taylor Swift Reportedly Doesn’t Trust Travis Kelce’s Dad
Taylor Swift is reportedly going to extreme lengths to protect details surrounding her highly anticipated wedding to Travis Kelce, even if it means keeping some family members out of the loop.
As excitement around the rumored July ceremony continues to grow, insiders claim privacy fears, leaked information, and fallout from past controversies have pushed the singer into full lockdown mode ahead of the big day.

According to insiders, Swift has become deeply protective of every aspect of the ceremony as she and Travis Kelce prepare for what sources described as a “really, really, big” wedding. One person who reportedly has not been trusted with many details is Travis’s father, Ed Kelce.
“He’s sort of like a loose cannon,” one insider told the Daily Mail. “Nobody knows what he’s going to say so it’s kind of a controversial situation.”
The concern allegedly stems from Ed’s prior revelation of details about Travis Kelce’s proposal to multiple media outlets. “He already gave out a lot of information about the engagement,” the source added.
Reports claim Swift has intentionally kept planning limited to herself, Travis, and a wedding planner.
Even family members are said to be operating with limited information. Travis’s sister-in-law, Kylie Kelce, recently admitted on her “Not Gonna Lie” podcast, “I don’t have any details. I don’t have any details. I have none.”
Sources also claim Swift has personally taken over the guest invitation process instead of relying on traditional wedding mailers.
Taylor Swift Reportedly Fears More Leaks

The singer’s intense focus on secrecy reportedly became even stronger after information about the wedding allegedly leaked earlier this year. Last month, reports surfaced claiming the ceremony would happen in New York City on July 3.
Insiders say Swift and Travis Kelce were disappointed private information made its way into public conversation so early. Instead of confronting guests directly, Swift allegedly came up with another strategy.
“She’s also sharing slightly different details with different guests,” a source claimed. “That way, if any information does surface publicly, it could help identify where the leak came from.”
The insider also explained why Swift reportedly abandoned physical invitations altogether. They shared, “When it comes to the date and location, she wants to avoid anything leaking ahead of time, which is why there are no physical save-the-dates being sent out.”
Another source added, “She is taking the entire process extremely seriously, especially from a security standpoint.”
That concern reportedly goes beyond gossip. Swift has dealt with stalkers, security threats, and even alleged terror plots throughout her career, making privacy a major issue as wedding speculation intensifies online.
“At the moment, fewer than ten people actually know the exact wedding date and location,” the insider revealed.
Swift’s Massive Guest List Sparks Criticism
Despite the secrecy, reports claim the wedding itself may be anything but small. Insiders say the guest list has become so large that some people close to the situation are beginning to question it.
“I’ve been hearing that every person under the sun who has slim to no relationship with the couple is being invited,” a source alleged.
The insider went even further, claiming some people inside entertainment circles feel the wedding invitations have become excessive. “You barely know these people and they’re invited? This is a joke. There are people invited that she has met one time in her life,” the source continued.
According to the same insider, Taylor Swift may simply want the world to see she finally “found her Prince Charming.”
Swift herself has previously joked about keeping the guest list open-ended. During an earlier appearance on “The Graham Norton Show,” she said, “I think the only stressful weddings are the ones where you have a small amount and people are on the bubble, right? And you have to evaluate or assess your relationship with them to see if they should be there – I’m not gonna do that.”
She also joked that she planned on inviting “anyone” she has “ever talked to.”
Reports suggest the wedding venue will need to match the enormous guest count. Sources believe the ceremony could happen at a large “museum” or “arena-like venue.”
Blake Lively Fallout Reportedly Changed Everything

The reported tension surrounding Taylor Swift’s friendship circle has also become part of the wedding conversation.
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are reportedly unlikely to attend following the actress’ legal battle involving Justin Baldoni. Insiders claim the controversy damaged Swift’s friendship with Lively after private messages allegedly became public during the dispute.
One source claimed Swift felt she “got dragged into something she didn’t want to get dragged into.”
Another insider added, “[The main issue was] the fact that her private text messages to her friend became public record and her friend dragged her into something that made her look poorly to the public.”
“That’s what really bothered her,” the source continued. “It was like, ‘OK, you f-cked up my reputation.’ It’s the reputation that she cares about the most.”
The fallout reportedly affected Travis’s relationship with the couple too, although sources say he never had a particularly close friendship with them independently of Swift.
“There’s no hard feelings on his end because they were never really his friends. They were friends with his fiancée,” the insider explained.
Wedding Drama Continues Around Taylor Swift And Travis Kelce

The growing secrecy has only fueled even more fascination around the celebrity wedding.
Rumors surrounding potential guest snubs continue to spread online, including speculation that actor Miles Teller and his wife Keleigh Sperry may not make the final list.
The couple once appeared close with Swift and Travis, but fans began questioning the friendship after Sperry did not sit with Swift during last year’s Super Bowl festivities.
Although Teller later appeared on Travis’s “New Heights” podcast, speculation around changing friendships has continued to follow the couple’s wedding planning process.
For now, much of the ceremony remains hidden behind closed doors. But with leaks, rumored guest list drama, and growing questions surrounding Swift’s inner circle, the road to the wedding has already become one of the most talked-about celebrity stories of the year.
