BBC’s Alex Jones and Clara Amfo welcomed Jamie Oliver, Paul Bettany and Will Sharpe onto Wednesday’s episode of The One Show.
During the most recent episode of The One Show, BBC presenters Alex Jones and Clara Amfo swiftly brought up Jamie Oliver’s homage to the late Michael Mosley.
In June of the previous year, the television personality tragically lost his life during a mountainous walk while on holiday in Greece, with his body being found four days later.
An inquest into his death led Buckinghamshire’s senior coroner, Crispin Butler, to classify Michael’s death as ‘indeterminate’, stating it was “was most likely attributable either to heatstroke (accidental) or non-identified pathological cause”.
Throughout his career, Michael was renowned for motivating individuals to enhance their health through positive lifestyle modifications. He also made the 5:2 diet, an intermittent fasting regime, popular.
Discussing the late star on The One Show, Alex Jones pointed out that he is mentioned in Jamie Oliver’s new cookbook, reports Wales Online.
She stated: “At the beginning of the book, you see that there’s a lovely dedication in there to the late Michael Mosley, who, of course, was a big friend of the show.”
Jamie responded: “Yeah, I actually met him on the show, and his wife. A beautiful man, amazing public servant. He did incredible things, and of course, when he passed away, that was a shock to everyone.
“So, I just felt it was appropriate to salute a good man and his great work, and yeah, it just felt nice to carve him into my little bit of history in the book, and hopefully people appreciate that.”
At the time of Michael’s passing, Jamie posted a touching tribute on social media, alongside countless other celebrities and public figures.
Posting a photograph of him, Jamie penned: “Rest in peace Michael Mosley…. Absolutely devastating news about the sad loss of fellow TV presenter Michael Mosley today.
“What a wonderfully sweet, kind and gentle man he was. He did such a lot of good for public health with his TV shows and research.
“He was a curious investigator, producer and presenter and often changed the conversation around many public health issues for the better. He will be sadly missed….love and thoughts to Claire and all of his family.”
This year, his relatives launched the new Michael Mosley Memorial Research Fund, working alongside King’s and the Chronic Disease Research Foundation (CDRF).
The webpage states that the money will fund the Michael Mosley Fellowship, a fresh clinical research position designed to enhance the nation’s metabolic wellbeing.
Mosley’s widow, Dr Clare Bailey Mosley, explained: “Michael was most proud of the work that he did in helping people to improve their metabolic health.
“It is increasingly clear that improving metabolic health decreases your risk of multiple chronic conditions, including type 2 diabetes, reducing blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, dementia, cancer and more.
“The Mosley family are thrilled that this fellowship will continue in his name to improve so many people’s lives.”
The One Show is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
