Peter Fury says Tyson Fury made one big mistake against Usyk: “I saw it from the opening bell”
Tyson Fury came up short when twice attempting to hand Oleksandr Usyk a maiden pro defeat back in 2024. Now, his uncle and former trainer, Peter Fury, has highlighted the key reason why he believes ‘The Gypsy King’ was unable to best the Ukrainian.
Peter Fury trained his nephew for his famous unified heavyweight world title win over Wladimir Klitschko back in 2015, arguably the most impressive victory of his career. However, following a three-year hiatus from the sport, Fury returned with Ben Davison in his corner.
Davison worked with Fury for five fights, until SugarHill Steward was appointed for the Deontay Wilder rematch; a move which proved to be a successful one as the ‘Kronk’ style aided Fury in two legendary triumphs over ‘The Bronze Bomber’.
Yet, when challenging for the undisputed throne, Fury and Steward were unable to get the better of Usyk and the Briton suffered a first career defeat, before losing once more in the rematch.
Speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, Peter Fury, who trained Rico Verhoeven in his controversial clash with Usyk last month, explained that his nephew was not front-footed enough in his bouts with Usyk, believing that he did not use his size to his advantage.
“As soon as the opening bell [went] and I seen how he was performing, I thought, ‘he is doing it wrong’. You’re a bigger man, coming in at 20 stone and doing all the wrong things; instead of going forward, [you’re] standing back.
“He has got his team there and I am not criticising anybody but both of the tactics were not good in both of them fights. Its was gone about wrong because, when you look at the structure of Usyk and what he does, to stand off and try and box an elite boxer, who is lighter than you, who is giving pounds away, he is going to ping you all over the shop.”
Verhoeven’s efforts and Peter Fury’s tactics against Usyk have been lauded in the last two weeks, described by some to be providers of Usyk’s ‘toughest professional fight’, with the Dutchman now entering the world rankings despite losing the contest.

Congo football team’s WC warmup game cancelled due to Ebola in Spain | FIFA World Cup 2022
Congo was still hoping to play its World Cup warmup against Chile after the mayor of the Spanish city of La Linea de la Concepcion denied authorization for the match because of health concerns related to the Ebola crisis.
Congo’s soccer federation said it was in discussions with the Spanish soccer federation and relevant international bodies to find solutions.
Government authorities in the southern city of La Linea de la Concepcion announced the decision to not authorize next Tuesday’s friendly citing possible health risks linked to the Ebola crisis.
Congo was playing a warmup against Denmark in Liege, Belgium, on Wednesday.
An outbreak of a rare type of Ebola virus has plagued Congo and Uganda. The World Health Organization has declared it a public health emergency of international concern.
Congo had already canceled a three-day World Cup preparation training camp and a planned farewell to fans in the capital Kinshasa because of the outbreak the eastern part of the country.
All of the Congo players and the team’s French coach, Sebastien Desabre, are based outside of the central African country with most of them playing in France.
Soccer’s governing body FIFA previously issued a statement saying it was aware of and monitoring the situation regarding an Ebola outbreak and was in close communication with Congo soccer officials to ensure the team was made aware of all medical and security guidance.
Congo will play in Group K at the World Cup. It faces Portugal for its opening game in Houston on June 17.
The Leopards then face Colombia in Guadalajara on June 23 before playing Uzbekistan in Atlanta for their final group game on June 27.
Congo’s first World Cup qualification since 1974, when it was called Zaire, sparked scenes of jubilation across the nation, which has been battered by decades of conflict.

Switzerland’s Embolo goes to US embassy after travel denied ahead of WC | FIFA World Cup 2022
Switzerland forward Breel Embolo applied for an urgent visa at the United States embassy in Bern on Wednesday, one day after he was denied boarding the team’s flight to the World Cup because of a criminal conviction.
The Swiss soccer federation at the team’s training camp in San Diego confirmed why Embolo’s travel approval to the U.S. had been put under review Tuesday. He has a conviction that became binding this year.
Embolo was charged after an altercation in Basel city center in 2018 and his guilty verdict was upheld at appeal last September. The verdict was finalized in April, just weeks before Embolo was due to travel to the U.S. for the third World Cup of his career.
“The embassy’s inquiries focused specifically on whether any physical violence had been involved. This was not the case,” the Swiss soccer body said. “Breel and the team are now awaiting approval so that he can travel to San Diego and join the squad as soon as possible.”
Switzerland starts its World Cup campaign on June 13 against Qatar at the San Francisco 49ers’ stadium in Santa Clara.
The Swiss then play Bosnia-Herzegovina in Inglewood, California and finish Group B against tournament co-host Canada in Vancouver on June 24.
The 29-year-old Embolo is set to be Switzerland’s first-choice striker and has scored 24 goals in 86 internationals.

Cronulla Sharks vs St. George Illawarra Dragons Preview
One of rugby league’s fiercest rivalries takes centre stage on Sunday as Cronulla looks to continue its climb up the ladder against a St George Illawarra side buoyed by a long-awaited breakthrough victory. The Sharks have won back-to-back matches to re-establish themselves as a finals contender, overcoming injuries to key personnel and finding ways to grind out results. The Dragons finally celebrated their first win of the season last week, upsetting Brisbane in a performance that showcased the potential of their emerging young forwards. Valentine Holmes played a major role in that success and now faces a significant challenge against Cronulla’s experienced backline. While the Dragons snapped a lengthy losing streak in this fixture last season, the Sharks have dominated the rivalry for much of the past decade and remain particularly difficult to beat at home.

Kyle Busch’s son returns to racing hours after dad’s memorial service
Kyle Busch died after pneumonia led to sepsis complications
NASCAR driver Kyle Busch, 41, tragically died from severe pneumonia that escalated into sepsis, his family confirmed. Dr. Cedric Rutland, a pulmonary critical care physician and American Lung Association spokesperson, explains how pneumonia’s inflammation and infection can overwhelm the body.

Brexton Busch, the 11-year-old son of NASCAR legend Kyle Busch, returned to the racetrack Tuesday for the first time since his dad’s death nearly two weeks ago.
Busch ran practice laps at Charlotte Motor Speedway ahead of the CookOut Summer Shootout, a Legend Car Series race. Kyle Busch, 41, died unexpectedly late last month after a battle with pneumonia turned into sepsis.
A private memorial was held for Busch on Tuesday afternoon. The family announced that a public memorial would take place later this year.

“On behalf of the Busch family, everyone at Richard Childress Racing and all of NASCAR, we are devastated to announce the sudden and tragic passing of Kyle Busch,” the family said in a statement following Busch’s death on May 21.
TWO-TIME NASCAR CUP SERIES CHAMPION KYLE BUSCH TRAGICALLY DIES AT 41 AFTER HOSPITALIZATION
“Our entire NASCAR family is heartbroken by the loss of Kyle Busch. A future Hall of Famer, Kyle was a rare talent, one who comes along once in a generation. He was fierce, he was passionate, he was immensely skilled and he cared deeply about the sport and fans.”

Busch was a two-time Cup champion and undoubtedly a future Hall of Famer. He’d been in the Cup Series since 2004, making 762 career starts with 63 wins. The 41-year-old won the championship in 2015 and 2019, and had 234 victories across all three NASCAR national series.
Busch is the all-time record-holder for wins in both the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series (102) and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (69). Busch’s 234th and final NASCAR win came at Dover one week before his death, when he led 147 laps in a dominating Truck Series victory.

One day after his death, car owner Richard Childress told reporters that RCR would suspend the use of Busch’s No. 8 until Brexton is eligible to use it.
“Richard Childress Racing has elected to suspend use of the No. 8 and will run the No. 33 at Charlotte Motor Speedway and beyond,” the team said in a statement. “Kyle Busch was instrumental in the design of RCR’s stylized No. 8, and it has become synonymous with Kyle and an important symbol for his fans and the NASCAR industry. No one can carry it forward to the level that he did.
“The No. 8 is reserved and ready for Brexton Busch when he is ready to go NASCAR racing.”
Brexton, 11, has been an up-and-coming racer for some time now. In recent years, Kyle had spent much of his own racing season following Brexton around during the week.

Ohtani dominates on mound, at plate as Dodgers rout Diamondbacks
Ohtani (6-2) allowed two hits and struck out six while lowering his major league-best ERA to 0.74. He’s allowed one earned run in 24 innings during a four-game winning streak.
Ohtani also hit three singles and reached base five times, scoring a run.
Tucker hit his homer off Zac Gallen (3-5) in the second inning. Freddie Freeman added a two-run single in the third. Max Muncy followed with a run-scoring single and Alex Freeman’s two-run single in the seventh put the Dodgers up 7-0.
Los Angeles had 16 hits to win for the 16th time in 19 games.
Arizona had two hits in its fifth loss in six games since winning five straight.
Ohtani was frustrated with his command against Colorado despite winning his last start, dropping a few expletives that were picked up by the on-field mic.
The four-time MVP had a few control issues against the Diamondbacks as well.
Ohtani sailed his first warmup pitch into a group of photographers at the backstop — he, of course, apologized — and almost hit three different batters in the first three innings.
The right-hander was nearly unhittable when he did keep it around the plate.
Ohtani didn’t allow a hit until Gabriel Moreno’s double over first base with two outs in the fourth inning and induced an inning-ending double play after Geraldo Perdomo’s single in the sixth.
Ohtani threw 89 pitches and was lifted following the Dodgers’ long top half of the seventh inning.
Gallen allowed five runs — four earned — on nine hits in five innings.
Dodgers LHP Justin Wrobleski (7-2, 2.87 ERA) faces Diamondbacks RHP Ryne Nelson (2-4, 4.82) in Thursday’s series finale.
