‘Obsession’ Pulls Off Box Office Feat Not Seen Since Steven Spielberg’s ’80s Sci-Fi Favorite
Earlier in this century, horror was having a tough time at the box office. From hopeful indies to big franchise sequels, nothing seemed to stick. Then came the arthouse renaissance led by A24, and the genre was back to its best, with it becoming difficult to remember a better time for horror fans than the past couple of years. This is best exemplified by last weekend’s domestic box office ranking, with the second weekend for The Mandalorian and Grogu facing a 70% drop thanks to the huge debut success of a record-breaking viral arrival.
A24’s Backrooms, led by Renate Reinsve and Chiwetel Ejiofor, topped the box office with an enormous $118 million global haul, of which $81 million was in domestic revenue. The highest-grossing opening for any A24 movie, Backrooms marks the major breakout of 20-year-old Kane Parsons, who has now broken the record for the youngest director to hold the #1 spot at the North American box office. However, the success of Backrooms is perhaps not even the most impressive horror feat achieved at the box office last weekend, with that award going the way of Focus Features’ Obsession.
Directed by Curry Barker, another young director to make the move from YouTube to the big screen, Obsession‘s universal critical acclaim is somehow bettered by its commercial success, having now returned over $166 million against a $1 million budget. However, what many don’t know is that Obsession has officially achieved a feat not seen since way back in 1982. Not since director Steven Spielberg‘s family sci-fi classic E.T. has a film grown in ticket sales in three consecutive weeks outside the holiday corridor. Can Obsession do it again this weekend?
Could This Weekend’s Big New Arrival Pose a Threat to ‘Obsession’?
Although a new entry in the Scary Movie franchise debuts this weekend, it seems unlikely for a satire of modern horror to distract from the generational genius of Barker’s Obsession. But what about a different genre entirely? Obsession faces perhaps its biggest new competition from Travis Knight‘s big-screen reboot of Masters of the Universe, with millions likely to flock to the theater to see Nicholas Galitzine‘s He-Man in action. However, realistically, Obsession‘s biggest competition will come from the aforementioned Backrooms, which is predicted to hold strong into weekend #2.
Obsession is available to watch in theaters now. Stay tuned to Collider for the latest box office updates.

Chris Pratt’s Worst Movie Is A Streaming Hit On Netflix
By Jonathan Klotz
| Published

You can’t escape Chris Pratt. You can try, but wherever you go, there’s a Chris Pratt movie waiting for you. The case can be made that the internet’s hatred of the Guardians of the Galaxy/Super Mario Bros/Jurassic World/Garfield/The Lego Movie star is overblown. People arguing that have never seen his 2016 sci-fi film, Passengers with Jennifer Lawrence. For some reason, the film is now in the Netflix Top Ten, where hopefully more people will understand it’s a horror movie from the monster’s perspective.
Passengers Is A Horror Movie

The opening of Passengers has a great hook: Chris Pratt plays Jim, an engineer onboard a colony ship, who wakes up out of hypersleep 90 years too early. Alone and isolated, his only friend is the robotic bartender, Arthur (Michael Sheen). Watching Jim eat alone, explore the ship by himself, play basketball to pass the time, is a sci-fi take on Castaway. Until he stumbles across the pod containing Jennifer Lawrence’s Aurora (that’s also the name of Sleeping Beauty, which is as subtle as the film gets).

Jim starts going through the passenger logs and becomes infatuated with Aurora to the point where he pops open her pod and wakes her up. We’re supposed to root for the two of them as they fall in love, save the ship, and embrace a life together. This is where Passengers miscalculates: Jim’s condemned a woman to die with him. She has no choice but to fall in love with him since well, they are all alone on the ship, and you know, the implication.
If Passengers had taken Aurora’s perspective instead of Jim’s, it would be an exceptional horror film. We’d get to see her slowly learn that he broke her pod. The realization that she was trapped. There’s so much story potential from that angle, it’s only a matter of time until someone makes it happen.
Jennifer Lawrence Regrets Starring In Passengers

When it debuted, Passengers was a hit, earning $300 million during its run and every time it shows up on a streaming service it’s in the top ten. The catch is, usually it’s first time watchers. They see Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence and get curious, fire it up, and then, as it should have with Aurora, the horror slowly dawns on them.
Passengers benefited from one of the most misleading trailers of all time, which left out the reality of the situation. Instead, it looked like a high-octane space survival thriller. It’s not. It’s a horror movie disguised as a slow-burn romantic sci-fi drama. Over time, Jennifer Lawrence agreed with the need for the film to be from Aurora’s perspective, going so far as to openly regret having starred in the film in the first place.
If you want to see the trainwreck for yourself, Passengers is currently on Netflix. Meanwhile, Chris Pratt has only starred in two films so far in 2026: Mercy and Super Mario Bros. Galaxy, but don’t worry, he has a third on the way: Way of the Warrior Kid, and in 2027, Garfield 2. And a small film you may have heard about, Avengers Doomsday. You can’t escape Chris Pratt.

Heather Locklear Finally Addresses Lorenzo Lamas Romance
Heather Locklear is crediting this bliss in her love life to the divine!
The actress is absolutely smitten by Lorenzo Lamas, and she is admitting that no human force could have brought such a perfect connection her way, nearly two months after they debuted as a couple at an event.
Heather Locklear was previously in a very publicized marriage with Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee in 1986, but everything came to an end in 1993 due to allegations of infidelity.

The media personality opened up about the role fate has played in landing a connection with Lamas nearly four decades after their first meeting. She said as much during an appearance on the “Hollywood & Divine” podcast, where she tagged their meeting as fated and deeply spiritual.
It is noteworthy that Locklear also officially referred to Lamas as her boyfriend for the first time publicly on the podcast when she said, “My new guy is very … everything.”
The 64-year-old explained that expressing love in this chapter of her life feels rooted in gratitude and faith, describing their bond as something she believes was brought into her life for a reason. In her words:
“I’m just like, when I tell this person I love him, I’m really saying, ‘I love you, God.’ Because that’s what happened. It’s from God.”
Lorenzo Lamas Is In Awe Of Their Reconnection
Lamas also reflected on their iconic romance during a previous interview with Fox News Digital, admitting he never expected their paths to reconnect romantically after so many years.
He continued that after a reflection on his past romantic endeavors, he now understands that all those experiences led him to Locklear, who is one of the most remarkable women in his life.
The lovebirds first met more than four decades ago during the peak of their early Hollywood careers. At the time, Locklear made waves for her role in Dynasty, while Lamas starred in Falcon Crest.
Their introduction came during a memorable 1983 Playboy magazine photoshoot that paired the two rising stars together.
The Buzzing Couple Does Not Play About Family Bonding Time

Locklear and Lamas’ relationship reportedly evolved over the months, and they have met with each other’s families. As reported by The Blast, the couple’s family has been bonding very quietly behind the scenes as they advance in the romance.
The couple reportedly introduced each other’s families when Lamas visited Locklear’s mansion in Thousand Oaks, California, with his kids and grandchildren.
The actor’s daughter, Shayne Lamas, also confirmed the visit in a social media post by sharing a picture of her dad and Locklear from their prime during a modeling shoot.
The duo’s families also had a good time bonding with each other, grabbing lunch, and catching movies. Locklear and Lamas’ family visit came months after the couple was spotted enjoying New Year’s Eve at a popular steakhouse in Las Vegas.
Locklear Gave Marriage A Shot Twice Years Back

Prior to the Lamas romance headlines, Locklear had a handful of high-profile relationships that kept her in the public eye. Her first major relationship was with Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee.
The two got married in 1986, when they were both at the pinnacle of their popularity, and they became the focus of Hollywood’s hottest gossip. However, after seven years together, their marriage came to an end in 1993, riddled with claims of cheating.
Locklear eventually remarried another rocker, Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora. The couple tied the knot in 1994 and had a daughter, named Ava, during their partnership.
Locklear and Sambora became one of the most beloved celebrity couple duos of the year with their time together, and they eventually announced their separation in 2007.
These days, Locklear seems to have started anew with Lamas, whom she first encountered in the 1980s as they both were emerging as successful artists.
Heather Locklear’s Current Beau Divorced His Ex Last Year
The Nickelodeon alum tied the knot with his now ex-wife in 2023, although they ended things two years later. In an exclusive report by The Blast in 2023, the marriage was Lamas’ sixth, which was different from the typical Hollywood ceremony.
Guests were invited to celebrate the event in October 2023 aboard Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas in Port Canaveral, Florida. The cruise ship setting of Lamas’ wedding to Kenna Scott added a unique touch to their ceremony in an industry filled with weddings on the beach, resorts, or Las Vegas venues.
The wedding happened two years after Lamas popped the question to Scott in February 2021. Before then, he was married to Shawna Craig from 2011 to 2018. Lamas and Scott ended their marriage in July 2025, citing irreconcilable differences.
Congratulations to Heather Locklear and Lorenzo Lamas on hitting it off!

On May 27, a parent alerted the school director to allegations that a child had been inappropriately struck in the classroom. And, it triggered an internal review and immediate notification to police.
Furthermore, investigators reviewed classroom surveillance footage spanning May 19 through May 26. And, officials say they uncovered multiple concerning interactions involving several children. Why Katie Austin Refused To ‘Skip’ SI Swimsuit While Pregnant
For fitness entrepreneur and six-time Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model Katie Austin, this year’s SI Swimsuit Miami Swim Week runway wasn’t just another glamorous walk under the spotlight. It marked a major personal milestone, as the wellness influencer proudly stepped onto the iconic runway while pregnant with her first child.
While some online critics questioned why she chose to participate this year, the founder of The KA App says sitting it out was never an option. In an exclusive conversation with The Blast, Katie Austin opened up about navigating pregnancy in the public eye, redefining confidence, and why motherhood doesn’t mean putting dreams on pause.

Austin, who has now modeled for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit six times, admitted this year’s runway experience felt vastly different from previous appearances. “This was my sixth year in Sports Illustrated, and this year was both extra special and extra different,” Austin told The Blast. “I was really excited leading up to the runway walk, but in the moments before, I definitely felt an identity shift.”
The fitness entrepreneur explained that while she has always felt confident in her body, pregnancy introduced emotions she wasn’t expecting. “I’ve always felt very comfortable in my body, and I still am, but it was just different mentally,” she explained. “Walking down that runway for the last five years, I felt so confident in my body, and this year my body looked so different. There was definitely a mental shift.”
Despite those insecurities, Austin said the experience ultimately became one of the most empowering moments of her career. “Absolutely,” she said when asked if the experience felt empowering in a new way. “I don’t want to sit here and say it was easy, because it wasn’t. I felt really brave doing it.”
Why Austin Refused To ‘Skip A Year’ Of SI Swimsuit

Austin also revealed there was a deeply personal reason she refused to skip this year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit runway while expecting. Before becoming pregnant, the model admitted she worried about what motherhood might mean for her career and whether becoming a parent would force her to step back professionally.
“It was a powerful moment for me because before I got pregnant, I always worried about what my career would look like and whether motherhood would put my dreams on pause,” Austin shared.
Walking the runway while pregnant became proof to herself that both things could exist at once. “Walking that runway was proof to myself that I can still do what I love, still pursue opportunities, and still follow my dreams while entering motherhood,” she said.
That message resonated strongly with her online audience, though not everyone agreed with her decision. “The response has been incredible. I’ve received so many messages from women saying, ‘Thank you for doing this,’” Austin said. “Of course, there were some comments saying I could have skipped a year, but that’s exactly why I didn’t want to skip it. I wanted to show that you can do both.”
The moment clearly struck a chord online, with Austin revealing the runway video exploded across social media. “The video ended up going viral with more than 20 million views across platforms, which has been really exciting to see,” she added.
Katie Austin Gets Real About Pregnancy Body Image Struggles

As someone who built an entire brand around helping women feel strong and confident, Austin admitted pregnancy introduced a completely new relationship with her body. “I didn’t fully understand body image struggles during pregnancy until it happened to me,” she confessed. “As an outsider, I would think, ‘You’re growing a human, give yourself a break.’ But when you’re the one experiencing it, it’s different.”
One of the biggest surprises for Austin was just how quickly everything changed. “Your body changes so quickly, and I wasn’t prepared for how fast everything would happen,” she explained. “I’m used to knowing my body so well, planning my workouts, and feeling in control. Pregnancy challenged that in a way I didn’t expect.”
Looking back, Austin says there’s one thing she wishes she had embraced sooner: grace. “Pregnancy is a much bigger adjustment than people realize,” she said. “You’re growing a human, and it’s important to go easy on yourself.”
She also got candid about one lesser-discussed challenge of pregnancy: mental health during the first trimester. “Everyone talks about postpartum, but nobody warned me that you can feel depressed or emotionally overwhelmed early in pregnancy because of the hormonal changes,” Austin revealed.
Pregnancy Changed Austin’s Relationship With Fitness

As a former Division I athlete and fitness professional, Austin said pregnancy forced her to completely rethink what strength looks like. “I’ve really had to redefine strength during pregnancy,” she explained. “Coming from being a Division I athlete and fitness professional, I had to rethink what a successful workout looks like.”
Instead of comparing herself to her pre-pregnancy routine, Austin said she’s learned to listen to her body. “Once I stopped comparing my workouts to my pre-pregnancy routine and started listening to my body every day, it took so much pressure off,” she said.
The purpose behind fitness has changed, too. “Before, I might have been focused on maintaining my physique or training toward a specific goal,” Austin explained. “Now, I’m working out to feel good, feel like myself, prepare for labor, and support my postpartum recovery.”
That shift is also changing her business. Austin revealed prenatal and postpartum wellness content will likely become a much larger focus for The KA App moving forward. “I’m actually finishing my prenatal certification right now,” she shared. “But now that I’m experiencing pregnancy myself, prenatal and postnatal wellness will become an even bigger focus because I can relate to it firsthand.”
Katie Austin Is Already Thinking About The Example She’ll Set For Her Daughter

As Austin prepares to welcome a baby girl with her husband, she admitted she feels both excitement and nerves about stepping into motherhood. “I’m so excited, but I’m also still scared,” Austin admitted. “People keep asking if I’m ready, and honestly, are you ever fully ready?”
Still, she’s looking forward to figuring things out together as first-time parents. “This little girl is 50% him and 50% me, and I think it’s going to be such a special experience learning together as parents,” she said.
When it comes to raising her daughter, Austin says confidence, not appearance, will always be the priority. “I want her confidence to come from who she is, not what she looks like,” Austin shared. “I hope she focuses on being kind, smart, funny, loyal, and passionate.”
And while matching workout outfits may not be on the agenda just yet, Austin admitted she’s already thought about some adorable fashion moments. “I’ve definitely thought about matching beach outfits and vacation outfits,” she joked.

‘Gremlins’ Will Never Get a Reboot
A new sequel to Gremlins is in the works, after the franchise lay dormant for many years. The original film, a sleeper hit in 1984, spawned a chaotic comedy sequel and, more recently, a prequel animated series. However, there’s one thing that will never happen to the franchise: a reboot. Star Zach Galligan recently discussed the situation at a panel at the Indiana Comic Convention.
While studios have been happy to reach into their libraries of intellectual property for a slew of remakes and reboots, Galligan, who played Billy in both Gremlins and Gremlins 2: The New Batch, isn’t the biggest fan of them and admits that he feels “a certain amount of ownership” towards the original film. While he doesn’t actually own the franchise, neither does Warner Bros, the studio that released it. That’s in the hands of Steven Spielberg, who produced the original film, and Chris Columbus, who wrote it. And according to Galligan, as long as those two are still around, you will never see a Gremlins reboot. He told the audience, where Collider’s Maggie Lovitt was in attendance at the Indiana Comic Convention:
“Mr. Spielberg owns it, Amblin owns it, and I believe Mr. Columbus also has some kind of ownership ability. At least, he has the ability to say no to a reboot, and he has said — and is involved in Gremlins 3, which certainly solidifies this — that as long as he is alive, there won’t be a Gremlins reboot, he has the right to say no.”
He also related Spielberg’s general antipathy to sequels and reboots, having eschewed seeing Jaws 2 for decades because, “guys, we blew up the shark.” Galligan didn’t want to tar all remakes with the same brush, though, as he did note that he enjoyed Zack Snyder‘s Dawn of the Dead, which he said was “pretty good.”
What Do We Know About ‘Gremlins 3’?
Columbus broke out with his script for Gremlins, which was purchased by Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment and made him an in-demand screenwriter and, later, director. He’s returning to the franchise for the first time in over four decades to both write and direct Gremlins 3, which will be released by Warner Bros. Columbus is co-writing the film with Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, the duo who recently revived the Final Destination franchise with Bloodlines. The film is currently in pre-production and will be filmed later this year; it is set to be released on November 27, 2027.
Directed by Joe Dante, the original Gremlins grossed a massive $212 million USD on a scant $11 million budget; the film’s blend of black humor with holiday cheer and state-of-the-art animatronics proved to be a winner at the box office. However, its violence was a little too extreme for some viewers, and helped spur the creation of the PG-13 rating.
Gremlins 3 is in development. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.

Anna Faris Addresses Rumor She Mocked Cameron Diaz
Anna Faris is clearing the air about viral speculation she poked fun at Cameron Diaz in 2003’s Lost in Translation.
“I was always a little annoyed with that accusation,” Faris, 49, said on the Thursday, June 4, episode of the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast. “I felt like it took a little something away from my flavor, and because I had auditioned for it and earned it as that performance, I always felt like, ‘No, I’m not part of some grand weird sabotage.’”
Faris played a bubbly actress in Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation, where an aging movie star (Bill Murray) struck up a connection with a new bride (Scarlett Johansson) on their respective trips to Japan. It had long been speculated that Faris took inspiration from Diaz, 53, for her role.
While speaking with “Happy Sad Confused” podcaster Josh Horowitz, Faris reaffirmed that the Charlie’s Angels actress was never in her mind during the audition or production process.
“L.A. was so new, I hadn’t met any celebrities,” Faris explained. “I had an idea when I first moved to L.A. from Seattle, I encountered a kind of person that I had never met before, which is what I call a self-describer. A person who’s like, ‘I am this and I am spiritual and I’m really creative and my aura is this.’”
According to Faris, she felt as if she was “tapping into that” persona when she read for Lost in Translation.
“Cameron came on my podcast once ‘cause I had read in an article once that her feelings were hurt. I wanted to send her flowers, [but] I didn’t really know how to approach that,” the Scary Movie star acknowledged. “I never had the courage to ask Sofia to clarify.”

Anna Faris in ‘Lost in Translation.’ Focus Features/courtesy Everett Collection
Faris was only able to “kind of” clear the air when she spoke with Diaz on her “Anna Faris Is Unqualified” podcast in 2021.
“Maybe should we clear the air on this podcast?” she quipped on Thursday. “I only had 25 minutes with her. I didn’t know if I should launch immediately until like, ‘I’m really sorry. I wasn’t doing that.’ Anyway, I don’t know if I handled it well.”
While Faris wasn’t able to fully apologize to Diaz, she did issue a compliment to her fellow actress.
“She does something that I call the ‘Cameron Diaz Effect,’ which is a scene in Charlie’s Angels when she is dancing to ‘Baby Got Back,’ man, she’s having so much fun,” Faris recalled. “The audience’s having so much fun. You’re loving it, and I was able to give her that compliment.”
