How to complete Bar the Truth quest

Bar the Truth is an optional side quest in Gothic 1 Remake that becomes available during your attempt to reach the Rogues’ Camp through the hidden cave path. Along the way, you will encounter a bandit named Brannok who refuses to let you through unless you prove yourself. To do that, he will ask you to track down one of his men, Arlin, who is being held in the Old Camp dungeons.

How to start the Bar the Truth side quest

Bar the Truth side quest in Gothic 1 Remake is connected to the Rogues’ Camp quest since you must interact with Brannock while completing the latter. To find him, cross the bridge north of the Old Camp and head into the forest area. After getting past two groups of Snappers, you will spot a small flight of stairs. Take the path right from here that leads into a cave and continue forward until you reach Brannok, who is guarding the passage into the camp.

To initiate the Bar the Truth quest, avoid picking dialogue options that lead to a fight with Brannock. Instead, select the “I’m just exploring this cave” dialogue followed by “I really want to go through that door.” He will then offer you a job to find Arlin.

Find Arlin in the Old Camp dungeons

After getting the mission from Brannock, head back to the Old Camp. Now go past Thorus and then take the path to your right until you reach the end. Then look to your left to find a ladder leading downwards. Climb down and pick the lock on the locked door at the bottom to enter the prison area.

Once you’re inside, look around until you find Arlin’s cell in Gothic 1 Remake.

Deal with Arlin

When you find Arlin, speak to him to interrogate him. After the conversation, free him by picking the lock on his cell or by taking the key from the nearby guard.

Once he is free, speak to him again and then make your way back to Brannok.

Report back to Brannok

Upon completing your objective, return to Brannok and inform him of what happened with Arlin. He will then accept your report and grant you access to the Rogues’ Camp, marking the end of the Bar the Truth quest.
