Mackenzie Shirilla’s Mom Speaks Out On Alleged Prison Romance

Mackenzie Shirilla

As Mackenzie Shirilla continues serving her 15-to-life prison sentence, Natalie Shirilla offered a rare glimpse into what her daughter’s day-to-day life looks like behind bars. The 21-year-old is currently incarcerated at the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville, roughly two hours from the family’s home, for her involvement in the shocking 2022 high-speed wreck that left Mackenzie Shirilla’s boyfriend and friend dead.

According to Natalie, Mackenzie keeps in close contact through daily messages sent on a prison-issued tablet. “She’s struggling, they all are. It’s very hard and challenging in there,” Natalie said, adding she is only able to visit her daughter twice a month.

Still, Natalie claimed Mackenzie appears physically healthier than when she first entered prison. “She’s actually gained a little bit of weight; she looks healthier. She looks physically better, but she’s still mentally struggling,” she said.

When asked whether she worries about her daughter being bullied in prison, Natalie insisted Mackenzie is capable of standing up for herself. “I think some people get targeted at times, but it’s not something she talks about,” Natalie explained. “She’s not afraid to stand up for herself. We talk about how to navigate through those situations.”

“But from what I can see, the women really take care of each other in there,” she added.

Natalie Shirilla Defends Daughter Amid Prison Misconduct Reports

Despite reports that Mackenzie has accumulated roughly 36 misconduct violations while incarcerated, Natalie argued that many of the infractions were minor misunderstandings of prison rules. “A lot of the tickets she got were for stuff she wouldn’t even know were rules, like wearing her uniform,” Natalie claimed.

Some disciplinary reports reportedly stemmed from sexually explicit video calls involving an ex-inmate, something Natalie brushed off while defending her daughter’s character. “I mean, she’s in her 20s, so…,” Natalie said when asked about the alleged behavior. “I don’t know about that one. All I can say is Mackenzie is not violent or aggressive.”

According to Natalie, Mackenzie has since found ways to occupy her time, including working as a food service employee inside the facility. “She paints, she draws, she’s very talented. She listens to music or watches movies,” Natalie said.

“They have tablets that have controlled apps,” she added. “They can’t access the Internet, but they can watch movies or listen to music. They also have a gym and can take fitness classes.”

Mackenzie Shirilla’s Mom Says Family Feels ‘Trapped’

Elsewhere in the interview, Natalie reflected on the emotional toll the case has taken on everyone involved, including both families affected by the deadly 2022 crash.

“I feel trapped,” Natalie admitted. “I feel like we’re stuck in quicksand and we can’t get out. I feel so bad for Mackenzie, but at the same time, I feel so bad for the other families.”

Inside Mackenzie Shirilla’s Trial And Murder Conviction

Shirilla’s case drew national attention after prosecutors argued the fatal July 31, 2022, crash was not an accident, but an intentional act. According to prosecutors, Shirilla drove her black Toyota Camry at nearly 100 mph down Progress Drive in Strongsville, Ohio, before crashing through a sign and slamming into a commercial building.

The crash killed Shirilla’s boyfriend, Dominic Russo, 20, and friend, Davion Flanagan, 19, while Shirilla, then just days shy of her 18th birthday, survived with serious injuries.

Why Prosecutors Argued Mackenzie Shirilla Intentionally Crashed The Car

During the trial, prosecutors pointed to surveillance footage, crash reconstruction evidence, and data from the vehicle to argue Shirilla deliberately accelerated without braking in the moments leading up to impact. They also cited the volatile nature of Shirilla and Russo’s relationship, arguing the deadly collision came after tensions between the couple.

Defense attorneys pushed back, maintaining the crash was a tragic accident and arguing there was no definitive evidence proving Shirilla intentionally drove into the building. Her legal team also challenged the prosecution’s theory of motive and questioned whether the available evidence could conclusively establish intent.

In August 2023, Cuyahoga County Judge Nancy Margaret Russo ultimately found Shirilla guilty on multiple charges, including four counts of murder, felonious assault, and aggravated vehicular homicide. While delivering the verdict, the judge famously referred to Shirilla as “Hell on Wheels,” saying the teen had “a mission of death” the night of the crash.

Shirilla was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison, becoming eligible for parole after serving 15 years.

Keke Palmer And Sean Evans Spark Dating Rumors

It looks like the rumor mill might be working overtime after Keke Palmer and Sean Evans were recently spotted enjoying what appeared to be a cozy night out in New York City. According to reports, the pair grabbed dinner Friday night at Lucali in Brooklyn, where they reportedly spent more than an hour and a half together. An eyewitness claimed the two stayed completely locked in on each other throughout the evening, with Sean allegedly looking especially smitten while chatting with the actress. While there was reportedly no PDA, photos circulating online show the pair deep in conversation at an intimate candlelit table, further fueling speculation that more than friendship may be brewing between them.

Are Keke And Sean More Than Friends?

The outing comes just weeks after the pair had fans side-eyeing their screens during an episode of Keke’s podcast, ‘Baby, This Is Keke Palmer.’ During the conversation, Keke playfully introduced Sean as her “potential future suitor,” sparking a string of flirty exchanges that quickly had the internet talking. Things got even more interesting when Keke’s mother Sharon Palmer openly rooted for the pair, calling their interaction “how life should be,” while Sean jokingly thought Keke was shouting out their future together.

Avengers: Doomsday Leak Finally Shows Doctor Doom In Action

By Chris Snellgrove
| Published

Last year, something fairly embarrassing happened to Marvel. They had a big plan to release different teaser trailers for Avengers: Doomsday across a period of several weeks, each one premiering theatrically. The idea was to build hype for the upcoming blockbuster film and, ideally, get diehard fans to come to the theater each week to catch a new preview. Unfortunately, the trailers leaked early online, spoiling any real sense of surprise. Now, it’s happening again, but something much more significant has gotten leaked: actual footage from Doomsday showing Doctor Doom in action!

If you’re a Marvel fan looking for serious spoilers, I’ve got good news and bad news. The good spidernews is that I’m going to link you to the leaked footage and provide a breakdown of everything happening in it. The bad news is that you’ll likely need the breakdown because the footage is so pixilated it looks like a cutscene on the Atari 2600. As near as we can tell, though, it’s not AI, meaning that this is actually a scene (albeit one missing certain VFX) from the upcoming movie. If you’re ready to open your Christmas present early, keep reading to get your first real look at Avengers: Doomsday!

Marvel Leakers: Assemble!

You can view the leaked Avengers: Doomsday footage above. Sadly, there’s no sound, and the footage has more pixels than Tony Stark has Iron Man suits. Anyway, what happens in this trailer? It begins with Doctor Doom seemingly using either magic or technology to activate some Sentinels, the robot titans that frequently vex the X-Men. We then see Captain America and Thor getting ready to fight these mechanical mutant-hunters. Thor calls Stormbreaker, his now familiar weapon, to his hand. Meanwhile, in a crowdpleasing moment, Cap summons Mjolnir as his own weapon of choice.

Afterward, we see that these two heroes are not alone. The Avengers are there, with Sam Wilson leading them. There are also members of the Fantastic Four and the Thunderbolts, fellow heroes from the MCU. Fighting alongside them are members of the X-Men from the 20th Century Fox X-Men films. This includes Cyclops, who fires off an optic blast before the Sentinels begin their own terrifying counterstrike. Sadly, the footage ends right when things were getting very exciting.

In case you don’t know, social media is filled with AI videos that users pass off as secret film trailers or leaked footage. This is such a common phenomenon that whenever there is a leak from Marvel, the first question everyone has is whether it’s fake. So, is this Avengers: Doomsday footage AI or not? While nothing has been officially confirmed, this looks like the real deal. The fight lines up with what we already know about the movie; furthermore, most AI creators try to make their fake footage look as convincing as possible. Therefore, it doesn’t make much sense to release AI footage that has no sound and is hilariously pixilated.

My personal theory is that, between this Avengers: Doomsday leak and the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer leaks, Marvel is doing a bit of guerrilla marketing. The actual studio “leaking” footage is a great way to get fans to hype up the film, all while getting entertainment writers (myself included!) to give the MCU additional coverage. If that’s the case, it’s working: leaks like this help generate buzz and keep excitement for Doomsday very high. Here’s hoping the film actually delivers on the hype, or nothing (not even Captain America wielding Thor’s hammer) will be able to save Marvel from its own cinematic implosion.

Additionally, police said that American singer and comedian Oliver Tree was on the list of passengers given to aviation authorities. However, they have not been able to identify the bodies of those killed in the crash. Tree performed in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on June 4. Also, he published a video on his Instagram account on Saturday showing him playing soccer in a Brazilian neighborhood.

Argentine streaming channel Blender said that content creator Gaspar Prim Díaz — also known as Gaspi — was in one of the helicopters. Gaspi had more than 2.8 million YouTube followers and was 23.

“Thanks for your art, your magic and your sensibility, every one of us will miss you,” Blender said on its X account.

Witness Describes Seeing Collision

Fernandes de Freitas, a tire repair worker, said he saw one of the helicopters in flames following the midair collision. Also, he noticed that one of the passengers jumped out of the other aircraft before it hit the ground.

DMX’s Ex-Wife Speaks Out Following Their Son’s Remarks About Being The Rapper’s “Original Family”

According to TheGrio, on Friday, June 12, officials in Yonkers renamed the intersection of School Street and Brook Street “Earl ‘DMX’ Simmons Way.” Per the outlet, the ceremony included two of Ruff Ryfers co-founders, DMX’ family, and fans.

During the unveiling, speeches from the late rapper’s family members were shared. Desiree Lindstrom, DMX’s fiancée and mother of his youngest son, took the stage, asserting herself as one of the members of his estate. However, when Xavier Simmons’ DMX’s eldest son took the stage, things appeared to take a turn. While on stage, Xavier stated that the ceremony couldn’t close without hearing from his dad’s “original entire family.”

Per the outlet, Xavier even chastised Lindstrom, for behaving “dishonorably.” Specifically, Xavier alleged Lindstrom excluded the rapper’s children and ex-wife, Tashera, from festivities.

Mackenzie Shirilla’s Mom Makes Explosive New Claims About Dom

Published

on

Mackenzie Shirilla

Mackenzie Shirilla’s mother is speaking out for the first time since her daughter’s case exploded back into the spotlight, pushing back against online claims and insisting the convicted killer is not the “villain” many have painted her to be. In a new interview, Natalie Shirilla addressed renewed public scrutiny following Netflix’s “The Crash,” which revisits the shocking 2022 high-speed wreck that left Mackenzie Shirilla’s boyfriend and friend dead.

Now 21 and serving 15 years to life in prison, Shirilla was convicted of murder after prosecutors argued she intentionally drove her Toyota Camry at 100 mph into a commercial building in Strongsville, Ohio, killing boyfriend Dominic Russo, 20, and friend Davion Flanagan, 19.

Natalie Shirilla said the public reaction to her daughter has been fueled by misinformation and assumptions surrounding the deadly crash.

“There were three people in the car,” Natalie told The Daily Mail in her first interview since the documentary aired. “Anything could have happened. Anything. So all these people creating all these stories, it’s just a bunch of story time. Nobody knows.”

The mother of the convicted “Hell on Wheels” killer, a nickname given to Mackenzie by the judge during sentencing, admitted she knows many people will never forgive her daughter, but insisted there is more to the story.

“I’m always going to be a villain in somebody’s story because I’m the mom of someone driving a car who killed two kids,” Natalie said. “That’s okay because I know I’m not a villain, I’m a good person. So is my daughter. She’s not how she’s been labeled online. She struggles with this daily.”

Natalie Shirilla Makes Explosive Claims About Daughter’s Relationship With Dominic Russo

Natalie also disputed long-running rumors surrounding Mackenzie and Russo’s relationship, including speculation he had been planning to break up with her or that Mackenzie had previously attempted to crash a car while he was inside. “I loved Dom. I still love Dom. Mackenzie still loves Dom. She’s struggling,” Natalie said. “Dom was like part of our family.”

The grieving mother went on to claim Russo struggled with mental health issues, alleging he was “bipolar” and had previously threatened suicide.

Inside Mackenzie Shirilla And Dominic Russo’s Allegedly Turbulent Relationship

According to Natalie, Russo once threatened self-harm inside the Shirilla family home and allegedly experienced emotional spirals that required Mackenzie’s help. She also claimed Russo’s mother had contacted Mackenzie multiple times for support when he would allegedly “hit his head against the wall.”

Natalie acknowledged the young couple had a turbulent relationship and fought frequently, but suggested there were complexities behind the scenes that have not been fully understood publicly.

Why Mackenzie Shirilla’s Family Says Everything Changed After ‘The Crash’

Natalie also reflected on the aftermath of the deadly crash, claiming the Shirilla family initially grieved alongside Dominic Russo’s loved ones before relationships suddenly fractured.

According to Natalie, Russo’s mother, Christine Agnello Russo, who previously worked for the Cuyahoga County District Attorney’s Office that later prosecuted the case, was allegedly captured on video speaking with police about wanting Mackenzie to go to prison and advocating for a Republican judge to oversee the proceedings.

Natalie ultimately blamed much of the public narrative shift on Dominic Russo’s half-sister, Christine Russo. “Christine Junior doesn’t even know us,” Natalie claimed. “She’s the daughter of Frank Russo and his first wife. She only knew Dominic until he was about 15. Mackenzie met her like one time. Yet she professes to know all about us.”

Mackenzie Shirilla Remains Behind Bars After Deadly 2022 Crash

Shirilla has remained incarcerated since her arrest following the July 31, 2022 crash, which occurred just days before her 18th birthday. Prosecutors successfully argued during trial that Shirilla intentionally caused the wreck, leading a judge in 2023 to convict her on multiple charges, including murder.

Her family, Natalie said, initially believed Mackenzie would face lesser charges, such as vehicular homicide, and continue to visit her regularly while she serves her sentence.

Natalie’s latest comments come as renewed public interest in the case has sparked fresh debate online following the release of “The Crash,” with many viewers revisiting questions surrounding motive, responsibility, and the events leading up to the fatal collision.

According to The Daily Mail, some of Natalie’s claims may be partially reflected in a massive collection of investigative materials made public following trial, including more than 30,000 text messages, reports, recordings, and court documents.

10 Forgotten HBO Shows That Are Perfect From Start to Finish

Published

on

A man and woman talking to someone in a music room in Hung.

There are HBO shows that will go down in history as being among the most memorable for both the premium network and television, period, like The Sopranos, The Wire, and Sex and the City. But then there are shows that sort of came, went, and have fallen off the map. For whatever reason, these series did well when they were on the air, some receiving critical acclaim. But following their end, they have been largely forgotten.

From crime dramas to comedies, miniseries to episodic shows, these HBO classics are ones you’ll want to pull out of the streaming vault today and watch, or re-watch. They boast talented casts, compelling stories, and will keep you entertained from beginning to end.

‘Hung’ (2009–2011)

In a flipping of the script, Hung stars Thomas Jane as Ray Drecker, a high school sports coach who, after a house fire and no insurance to cover the damages, finds himself in a precarious position. He needs money, and he needs it fast, so he turns to the world’s oldest profession and begins working as a prostitute. Since his manhood happens to be above average size, finding clients is easier than he expected. With the help of his friend Tanya (Jane Adams), Ray begins a secret and lucrative business while putting his life back together.

Hung also stars the late Anne Heche as Ray’s ex and, in the show’s third season, adds Stephen Amell is a young, equally endowed competitor. The comedy drama is plenty hilarious, switching a premise we typically see with a female to putting the male in the hot seat, and it’s refreshingly funny. The show isn’t done in poor taste but reflects the desperation of a man and father who will do what it takes, bringing joy to lonely women through his aptly named company, Happiness Consultants.

‘The Leftovers’ (2014–2017)

Justin Theroux stars in The Leftovers, an underrated supernatural post-apocalyptic drama. It’s about a catastrophic event that eliminates two percent of the global population, leaving survivors to deal with the aftermath of the Departure. Kevin Garvey (Theroux) is police chief, and together with his family and others he meets along the way, they try to rebuild civilization. However, society begins to fracture, and various cults emerge, each with its own distinct beliefs, which causes friction.

Most notable is Henry “Holy Wayne” Gilchrest Jr. (Paterson Joseph), who declares himself the second coming of Jesus, duping and controlling vulnerable people who believe him. While The Leftovers started very dark, it shifted focus in its second and third seasons. Interestingly, the series wasn’t hugely popular when it was first airing, but it has since developed a cult following. That said, it’s not one of the best-known HBO series, beloved by the small group of fans who appreciate its storytelling, direction, and depth.

‘Rome’ (2005–2007)

More than 20 years ago, HBO offered up a compelling historical drama and one of the best shows about ancient Rome called Rome that stars Kevin McKidd and the late Ray Stevenson. They are soldiers Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo, respectively, involved in events during Ancient Rome’s transition from a Republic to an Empire. Many characters were based on real-life people, though the stories are largely fictional.

As a co-production with the UK and Italy, Rome was a big undertaking that paid off: the show attracted big viewer numbers and plenty of awards and accolades. However, the high production costs meant it did not run for its planned five seasons, ending at two. Today, given the scope of shows like Game of Thrones, Rome may very well have been before its time. It is likely to have lasted much longer had it launched today.

‘Landscapers’ (2021)

Lasting just four episodes, Landscapers is a binge-worth British American true crime black comedy drama that is worth checking out today. Inspired by real events, Olivia Colman and David Thewlis play Susan and Christopher Edwards, a mild-mannered couple who shockingly murder Susan’s parents and bury them in the garden. For more than a decade, no one knew of the crime while this couple continued their lives as if nothing had happened.

Based on the 1998 murders of William and Patricia Wycherley, Landscapers is a bingeworthy miniseries that no one remembers today, a fascinating tale that you won’t believe is based on real events. Despite Colman’s A-list Hollywood status, however, this is one of her lesser-known projects, overshadowed by all the work she has done before and since. But the show maintains an almost perfect 98% Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score.

Camp Crystal Lake · Friday the 13th

Jason Voorhees

Jason is relentless, but he is also predictable — and that is the gap you would exploit.

  • He moves in straight lines toward his target. He doesn’t strategise, doesn’t adapt, doesn’t outsmart. He simply pursues.
  • Your ability to keep moving, use the environment, and resist the panic that freezes most victims gives you a genuine edge.
  • The Crystal Lake survivors were always the ones who stopped running in circles and started thinking about terrain, water, and distance.
  • You think like that. Which means Jason, for all his indestructibility, would face someone who simply refused to be where he expected.

Haddonfield, Illinois · Halloween

Michael Myers

Michael watches before he moves. He is patient, methodical, and almost impossible to detect — until it’s too late for anyone who isn’t paying close enough attention.

  • But you are paying attention. You notice the shape in the window, the car parked slightly wrong, the silence where there should be sound.
  • Michael’s power lies in the invisibility of ordinary suburbia — the fact that nothing ever looks wrong until it already is.
  • Your spatial awareness and instinct to map every room, every exit, and every shadow before you need them is precisely the quality Laurie Strode had.
  • You are not a victim waiting to happen. You are someone who already suspects something is wrong — and acts on it.

Elm Street · A Nightmare on Elm Street

Freddy Krueger

Freddy wins by getting inside your head — using your own fears, your own memories, your own subconscious as weapons against you. That strategy requires a target who can be destabilised.

  • You are harder to destabilise than most. You’ve faced uncomfortable truths about yourself and you haven’t looked away.
  • The survivors on Elm Street were always the ones who understood what was happening and chose to face it rather than flee from it.
  • Freddy’s greatest weakness is that his power evaporates in the presence of someone who refuses to give him the fear he feeds on.
  • Your psychological resilience — the ability to stay grounded when reality itself becomes unreliable — is exactly the quality that keeps you alive here.

Pennywise

Pennywise is ancient, shapeshifting, and feeds on terror — but it has one critical vulnerability: it cannot function against someone who genuinely stops being afraid of it.

  • The Losers Club didn’t survive because they were braver than everyone else. They survived because they faced their fears together, and faced them honestly.
  • You ask the questions others avoid. You look directly at what frightens you rather than turning away.
  • That directness — the refusal to let fear fester in the dark — is Pennywise’s worst nightmare.
  • It chose the wrong target when it chose you. You are exactly the kind of person whose fear tastes like nothing at all.

Chucky

Chucky’s greatest advantage is that nobody takes him seriously until it’s already too late. He exploits the gap between how something looks and what it actually is.

  • You don’t have that gap. You take threats seriously regardless of how they present — and you never make the mistake of underestimating something because of its size or appearance.
  • Chucky relies on surprise, on the delay between recognition and response. You close that delay faster than almost anyone.
  • Your instinct to treat every unfamiliar thing with appropriate scepticism — rather than dismissing it because it seems absurd — is the exact quality that keeps you breathing.
  • Against Chucky, not laughing is already winning. You are very good at not laughing.

‘Bored to Death’ (2009–2011)

Fans were anything but bored watching Bored to Death, even campaigning for the show to return when it was cancelled after three seasons. This led to rumors of a potential follow-up film that never came to fruition. The comedy stars Jason Schwartzman as Jonathan Ames, a New York City-based writer who is struggling to pen his next novel, and moonlights as a private investigator. But he’s not exactly good at the job. While Ames is a fictional character, he is based on the real author of the same name, who also created the show.

The series has a star-studded cast that also includes Zach Galifianakis as Jonathan’s best friend and Ted Danson as his editor and father figure. Airing for three seasons, Bored to Death was praised for its writing and acting, a memorable show airing after Curb Your Enthusiasm in the premium network’s primetime lineup.

‘Enlightened’ (2011–2013)

Airing for just two seasons, the Mike White series Enlightened stars Laura Dern as Amy Jellicoe, a 40-year-old woman who returns home after spending time in a treatment facility following a mental breakdown. She was demoted at work but fails to take accountability for the fact that her downfall is the result of her own self-destructive behavior, including heavy drinking and having an affair with her married boss.

After some quiet time to reflect, Amy realizes she needs to follow a different path, and she works towards inner healing, self-help, and meditation. But others around her aren’t so convinced she can stick with this calmer routine. Enlightened follows Amy’s journey to enlightenment with healthy doses of both comedy and drama. It’s a show that tackled the topic of mental health long before this was common on television.

A seven-part miniseries, Generation Kill, like other HBO shows, has a pretty jam-packed cast including Alexander Skarsgård, Lee Tergesen, Jon Huertas, and Marc Menchaca. Set during the 2003 invasion of Iraq and based on the Evan Wright book of the same name, the series follows the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion of the US Marine Corps and reporter Wright, played by Tergesen, who is covering the events.

Aiming to offer a realistic account, Generation Kill is in the same vein as other shows like The Pacific and Band of Brothers, yet it doesn’t receive as much fanfare as those shows. The series earned positive reviews for its authenticity and attention to detail, and an intense and gripping look at the beginnings of war.

Decades before Veep, which coincidentally is also an HBO show, and even long before mockumentary style shows were a trend, there was Tanner ’88. The most essential HBO miniseries, written by Gary Trudeau, strategically aired right before the 1988 U.S. presidential election, which saw George H. W. Bush eventually defeat Michael Dukakis for the presidency. In this series, however, it’s about Jack Taner (Michael Murphy), a fictional former Michigan U.S. representative who is hoping to secure the Democratic Party nomination.

The series features appearances and cameos from real-life political figures, including Bob Dole, Kitty Dukakis, and Jesse Jackson, and centers around Tanner’s moves to find his voice. This ironically includes strategies and tricks to promote his authenticity and integrity. Initially, Tanner ’88 was not well reviewed. Viewers and critics were arguably unsure of what to do with such an original concept show. But in the decades since, the satire and wit of the series has been recognized as being ahead of the TV curve. Considering how both mockumentary sitcoms and reality TV have blown up in the 21st century, Tanner ’88 was onto something. But it’s largely forgotten as one of the shows that helped pave the way.

‘We Own This City’ (2022)

Jon Bernthal is on a hot streak of late, with roles in everything from Punisher to The Odyssey and The Bear, as well as performing in Dog Day Afternoon on Broadway. All this work has overshadowed a smaller but powerful crime drama he was in just a few years ago. We Own This City is based on the nonfiction book Baltimore Sun by Justin Fenton and tells the story of Sergeant Wayne Jenkins (Bernthal), a corrupt officer who went on to be convicted of corruption alongside other members of his gun trace task force team.

The six-episode miniseries tells the story in a non-linear fashion with flashbacks to help set up not only Jenkins as a cop who engaged in bad behavior, but also as a flawed human who loved his family. The series has drawn comparisons to The Wire, a darker look at law enforcement from a different lens, sharp and pointed commentary on systemic corruption. Bernthal is widely praised for his performance, and given his other projects since, it’s prime time to check out this show you might have missed.

‘The Corner’ (2000)

Another show that has drawn comparisons to The Wire, The Corner is dark and gritty, a story of the drug-infested streets of Baltimore. Based on the non-fiction book The Corner: A Year in the Life of an Inner-City Neighborhood by David Simon and Ed Burns, both of whom worked on The Wire as well, Burns also on Generation Kill and We Own This City, the show quietly made waves as a precursor to The Wire, which came two years later.

The focus is on one family who lives in the center of a poverty-stricken area and their hardships with drugs, money, and familial strife. The series is a perfect tie-in to The Wire, that very corner depicted on the show. There are also many character crossovers with Homicide: Life on the Street, one of the most groundbreaking crime shows. The Corner is one of the best but also the most forgotten drama from a team that seems to have perfected the genre.
