Boeing is cutting 10 percent of its workforce

Team,

Our business is in a difficult position, and it is hard to overstate the challenges we face together. Beyond navigating our current environment, restoring our company requires tough decisions and we will have to make structural changes to ensure we can stay competitive and deliver for our customers over the long term.

We need to be clear-eyed about the work we face and realistic about the time it will take to achieve key milestones on the path to recovery. We also need to focus our resources on performing and innovating in the areas that are core to who we are, rather than spreading ourselves across too many efforts that can often result in underperformance and underinvestment.

With that in mind, today I am sharing some difficult decisions and several program updates:

On the 777X program, the challenges we have faced in development, as well as from the flight test pause and ongoing work stoppage, will delay our program timeline. We have notified customers that we now expect first delivery in 2026.

We plan to build and deliver the remaining 767 Freighters ordered by our customers and then conclude production of the commercial program in 2027. Production for the KC-46A Tanker will continue.

In BDS, our performance on fixed-price development programs is simply not where it needs to be. We expect substantial new losses in BDS this quarter, driven by the work stoppage on commercial derivatives, continued program challenges and our decision to complete production on the 767 freighter. I will be providing additional oversight of this business and these programs.

Along with the above actions, we must also reset our workforce levels to align with our financial reality and to a more focused set of priorities. Over the coming months, we are planning to reduce the size of our total workforce by roughly 10 percent. These reductions will include executives, managers and employees. Next week, your leadership team will share more tailored information about what this means for your organization. Based on this decision, we will not proceed with the next cycle of furloughs.

As we move through this process, we will maintain our steadfast focus on safety, quality and delivering for our customers. We know these decisions will cause difficulty for you, your families and our team, and I sincerely wish we could avoid taking them. However, the state of our business and our future recovery require tough actions.

We will be transparent with you regarding the timing and impact of these steps, and we will be professional and supportive to everyone along the way.

Thank you for all that you are doing through this very challenging time at Boeing. We will navigate through this moment. We will re-focus our company, and we will restore trust with all those who depend on us.

Kelly

NYT Connections: hints and answers for Saturday, October 12

NYT Connections: hints and answers for Monday, October 7
New York Times' Connection puzzle open in the NYT Games app on iOS.
Sam Hill / Digital Trends

Connections is the latest puzzle game from the New York Times. The game tasks you with categorizing a pool of 16 words into four secret (for now) groups by figuring out how the words relate to each other. The puzzle resets every night at midnight and each new puzzle has a varying degree of difficulty. Just like Wordle, you can keep track of your winning streak and compare your scores with friends.

Some days are trickier than others. If you’re having a little trouble solving today’s Connections puzzle, check out our tips and hints below. And if you still can’t get it, we’ll tell you today’s answers at the very end.

How to play Connections

In Connections, you’ll be shown a grid containing 16 words — your objective is to organize these words into four sets of four by identifying the connections that link them. These sets could encompass concepts like titles of video game franchises, book series sequels, shades of red, names of chain restaurants, etc.

There are generally words that seem like they could fit multiple themes, but there’s only one 100% correct answer. You’re able to shuffle the grid of words and rearrange them to help better see the potential connections.

Each group is color-coded. The yellow group is the easiest to figure out, followed by the green, blue, and purple groups.

Pick four words and hit Submit. If you’re correct, the four words will be removed from the grid and the theme connecting them will be revealed. Guess incorrectly and it’ll count as a mistake. You only have four mistakes available until the game ends.

Hints for today’s Connections

We can help you solve today’s Connection by telling you the four themes. If you need more assistance, we’ll also give you one word from each group below.

Today’s themes

  • DRAPED ACCESSORIES
  • TOLERATE
  • BIRD ONOMATOPOEIA
  • STARTS OF CELL PHONE MAKERS

One-answer reveals

  • DRAPED ACCESSORIES – SCARF
  • TOLERATE – BEAR
  • BIRD ONOMATOPOEIA – COO
  • STARTS OF CELL PHONE MAKERS – APP

Xbox is adding the ability to stream games you own next month

Xbox is adding the ability to stream games you own next month

It’s going to be a big time for Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud gaming efforts here soon, as it’s now being reported that Microsoft is adding the ability to stream games you own. Xbox Cloud Gaming, which has been exclusive to Game Pass Ultimate members since it arrived, will no longer be limited to whatever’s available in the Game Pass library. There’s no firm date just yet but according to The Verge, Microsoft plans to start making this feature available in November.

It may be arriving around the same time as the ability to purchase Xbox games within the Android app. On October 10, Xbox President Sarah Bond confirmed that starting in November, Xbox users will be able to launch the Android app and purchase a game right from within it. A change Microsoft is making following the events of the Epic vs Google ruling this week.

Streaming Xbox games you own in the cloud will start with Xbox Insiders

There are still some unknown details about this upcoming feature but it appears that Microsoft isn’t going to roll this out fully right away. It will reportedly start first with Xbox Insiders in November. Xbox will then start rolling it out to all users. Microsoft also plans to expand the feature with more games around that same time.

Xbox users have been requesting the capability to stream games they own for a while. And it was supposed to be a feature that was available with Xbox Cloud Gaming from the beginning. However, those plans never materialized, with Xbox shifting the plans for its availability to sometime in 2022. Now more than two years later, the feature is finally coming. Perhaps Microsoft wanted to launch this capability around the same time it made it possible to purchase Xbox games from within the Android app.

Streaming games you own may still be limited

Without an official announcement about streaming games you own, it’s unclear if users will be able to stream any game they own or if there will be limitations. Right now the biggest piece of information about this upcoming feature is that it’s coming in November through testing with Xbox Insiders.

That being said, The Verge does note that Microsoft has been preparing its cloud gaming servers to “support thousands of games.” So there seems to be a good chance that most if not all games will be supported.

Absurdist romance sim Date Everything! has been delayed to Valentine’s Day 2025

Absurdist romance sim Date Everything! has been delayed to Valentine’s Day 2025

Shut-ins of the world, you’ll have to wait a bit longer for your ultimate wish-fulfillment video game. Date Everything!, the cheekily bizarre romantic sim from Team17 and Sassy Chap Games, is no longer arriving on October 24, as was initially announced. On Friday, the team pushed back the game’s release date to Valentine’s Day 2025.

On a game design level, Date Everything! appears to be a simple dating simulator with dialogue branches and voiced characters. What sets it apart is its delightfully absurd premise: You can date all your household objects, thanks to magical glasses known as the “Dateviator.”

Your dateable objects each have a distinct personality and branching storylines. Your romantic possibilities include a laundry hamper (the fiery “Harper”), a vacuum cleaner (the hunky “Hoove”) and your overwhelming (and shirtless) sense of existential dread who would prefer just to be called “Doug.” As unappealing as that bunch sounds for a romantic fling, it may still beat today’s microtransaction-riddled dating apps.

Date Everything! screenshot. A shirtless person with a generic round face named Doug stands there.

Depending on your dialog branch choices, each humanized object can become a Love, Friend or Hate. The game’s press release promised that each outcome influences a “critical path tying it all together,” so choose wisely between the lamp and the towel who dresses like Liberace.

Date Everything! arrives on February 14, 2025, on Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
