The Department of Justice has refused to supply signed declarations from Trump administration officials pledging not to to create the nearly $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization fund” that critics have a labelled a “slush fund” that would reward January 6 rioters and other Trump allies.
In a court filing, a top Justice Department lawyer said Judge Leonie Brinkema’s demand for the sworn documents as a condition for dismissing a lawsuit over the controversial fund proposal amounted to judicial “overreach.”
“Such declarations are unnecessary and the compelled testimony of senior officials from the Executive Branch implicates serious separation of powers concerns,” wrote Andrew Block, senior counsel to Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward Jr.
In his Friday filing, Block cited acting Attorney General Todd Blanche’s recent congressional testimony that the fund was “not going forward, period.”

He also said that he has twice signed briefs “reaffirming” that position, and that the Justice Department “has twice said substantially the same thing in open court.”

“All these statements were made against the backdrop of serious penalties for falsity,” he wrote.
Earlier this month, the judge issued a preliminary injunction that blocks the government from establishing the compensation fund.
During a court hearing on June 12, Brinkema stressed that Blanche’s congressional testimony wasn’t enough to satisfy her.
She gave him, Woodward and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent until Friday to file the declarations if they wanted her to declare a lawsuit over the fund as moot.

Brinkema also warned that if the declarations weren’t filed by her deadline, she would issue a scheduling order and require the defendants to file a response by July 17.
Block now says that “such declarations are unnecessary.”
The lead plaintiff in the case is Andrew Floyd, a former federal prosecutor who alleged that he was fired for prosecuting Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021 to try to prevent Congress from certifying his loss to Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election.
Blanche and other administration officials have insisted that they are following the court’s order and abandoning plans for the fund, but officials have also suggested that they are still looking for pathways to issue payouts.

The Justice Department said the fund was being created as part of an alleged settlement agreement between Trump and his own administration. Trump agreed to dismiss a lawsuit against the IRS, which he sued for $10 billion over the leak of his tax returns by an agency contractor.
The deal also includes a provision that bars the Justice Department and IRS from taking legal action against Trump, his sons Don Jr. and Eric, and the Trump Organization for any other past alleged wrongdoing.
The president has claimed he wasn’t involved in discussions about creating the fund, which would ostensibly compensate people who Blanche said were the “victims of lawfare” by the Biden administration.
But the president has also said he “loves” the idea. He recently told NBC’s Meet the Press that “it was up to me, I’d pay them the kind of money that they deserve.”
“People have been destroyed. Lives have been destroyed,” Trump said during a June 12 interview that aired two days later.

The sitdown in Wisconsin ended abruptly when Trump got angry and stormed off after host Kristen Welker pressed him for evidence to support his unfounded claims that the 2020 election and the recent California gubernatorial primary were “rigged.”
“You’re either crooked or you’re stupid,” he said. “You play right into their hands with this crap.”
The firm will relocate from its current premises on Clifton Green to a larger, more modern office at Colonia House, Toft Green, which it says will support future expansion.

A veterinary expert has shared a list of five dog breeds that, despite loving, would not take home.

Speaking on his own TikTok channel, Alex the vet cautioned that although he loves these dog breeds, they can cause a range of issues. Calling the reasons “hard to hear”, he says he loves to see them in the clinic.
Also a team vetat Pooch and Mutt, Dr Alex Crow stresses that this isn’t criticism of the dogs or their owners. Instead, it comes from a place of concern s about the way they have been selectively bred.

In his video’s caption, he writes: “As a vet, there are five breeds I genuinely love but wouldn’t take home myself, and it comes down to what I see on the table week after week. Before anyone gets upset, this isn’t a go at the dogs or the people who own them. It’s about how we’ve bred them.”

5. Daschund. That long back comes at a cost. Around one in four develops IVDD, a disc problem that can cause serious pain and sometimes paralysis.
4. Pug. Brachycephalic, or that flat face, means a lot of them can’t breathe properly as their airways are too narrow. Their eyes bulge, which can make them more prone to eye ulcers, and they often develop twisted spines. Overall, he says that this breed suffers in silence to do the most basic things.
3. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. This is the one that breaks his heart as he says he really loves these dogs. However, many go on to develop syringomyelia – a painful condition where the skull is too small for the brain and presses on the spinal cord. Not only that, but the majority of the breed will likley develop mitral valve disease by age 10.
2. French Bulldog. Calling them the UK’s most popular breed, he notes that this dog has been flagged as having multiple chronic health issues at higher rates than almost any other dog by the Royal Veterinary College. Issues include breathing trouble, slipped discs, eye issues skin problems.

1. English Bulldog. Taking the top spot, he notes that this breed’s features are so extreme that most cannot give birth naturally. They also can’t exercise without overheating. Because of their skin folds, they’re also prone to skin infections. Norway even banned the breed in 2022 based on welfare grounds, Alex said;
In fact, the Independent noted that Norway banned the breeding of British Bulldogs and Cavalier King Charles spaniels in the country.
In his caption, he added: “None of this means these dogs can’t have a lovely life, and if you own one you can give them a brilliant one. The real issue is that we’ve put looks ahead of health for generations. If you’ve got your heart set on one of these breeds, buy from health-tested parents and go in knowing what you’re taking on.”
Why does my dog’s breath smell?
Speaking on the official Pooch and Mutt TikTok channel in a separate video, Alex cautioned that your dog’s smelly breath may be a sign of a disease.
He explained: “Most of the time, bad breath in dogs is a sign of dental disease. Plaque and bacteria build up on the teeth, harden into tartar and start to irritate the gums.
“Over time, that can lead to infection, pain, loose teeth, and eventually, tooth loss if not managed.” Sharing some “good news” he said, brushing your dog’s teeth at home can help prevent this. In fact, “it’s the most effective thing you can do”.
And it makes sense given that we brush our teeth twice daily to avoid dental issues and losing any teeth. “Even a few times a week can make a big difference,” according to Alex.

The expert added if “the smell is really strong, suddenly worse than usual or you notice red or bleeding gums, drooling, difficulty eating or your dog going off hard food, then that’s your sign to see the vet because they may already need treatment.”
Stressing that “bad breath isn’t just a mouth problem”, Alex said that “in some cases it can be linked to digestive issues or even heart and kidney disease.” Ending his video, he said that “if your dog’s breath could clear a room, don’t ignore it. Prevention is always better than a cure.”

A former Peterborough pub, described by locals as an “eyesore”, could be demolished to make way for a new shop. A planning application has been submitted to Peterborough City Council for the demolition of the former Golden Lion pub on Church Street in Stanground, which has stood vacant for more than a decade.
A woman, who wished to remain anonymous, previously told CambridgeshireLive that the site is “very messy”. She said: “It’s a complete eyesore. It’s a shame it has been left this way.
“Whenever you drive or walk past it, it’s just not nice to look at. I wish something could be done about it, cause it just gets worse every time you go past it.”
Several planning applications have been submitted for the building since the closure of the pub. A new application, submitted by TYS Retail Ltd, proposes completely demolishing the building to replace it with a ground floor retail shop alongside a residential flat above it.

The applicant describes the building as being in “very poor condition” at the first floor level and is open to the elements where leadwork has been taken from the roof. The statement adds: “This proposal will allow a prominent site to be brought back into use which is also likely to be considered a brownfield site.”
The proposed opening hours would be between 6:30am and 11:30pm on Mondays to Saturdays and 7am to 10:30pm on Sundays and bank holidays. The proposals would likely see 10 full time staff and 20 part time staff for the retail use.
The new series – which marks the first collaboration between Harlan Coben and Netflix to be set in the US – follows a man serving a prison sentence for the murder of his young son, whose world is upside down when he discovers his son may actually still be alive.

The Woods will see Death On The Nile star Tom Bateman taking the lead as Paul, a barrister and devoted single father still grieving the loss of his sister, who disappeared 20 years earlier.
Echoing a recurring trope in Coben’s work, the story will see Paul discovering new evidence to suggest his sister is still alive, despite having previously been led to believe she’d been murdered after disappearing into the woods.
From there, naturally, he soon finds himself embroiled in a mysterious saga with plenty of twists, as he tries to find out what happened to his sister – and where she’s been all this time.
Entering production in April 2026, the eight-part limited series will see Tom sharing the screen with the likes of Doctor Who’s Mandeep Dhillon and James Buckley, best known for his work in The Inbetweeners.

The Woods will also see Fool Me Once’s breakout star Michelle Keegan returning to the world of Harlan Coben, as she takes on the role of Paul’s ex, who also happens to be an investigator.

Netflix is also adapting Myron Bolitar, which will see Coben teaming up with Emmy Award-winning David E. Kelley, the man behind Big Little Lies, Ally McBeal and Boston Legal.
The Myron Bolitar novels are the most popular in Coben’s oeuvre, and follow a sports agent who uses his charm and smarts to navigate numerous high-stakes deals, including blackmail, murder and dark family secrets.

Coben has previously told Deadline that “Myron Bolitar is dear to my heart,” calling the 11-book series his “most prized possession” and “one of the properties I’ve probably been a little bit more precious about”.
Also currently in early development is All We Ever Wanted. While this is a TV version of Emily Giffin’s hit novel, rather than a direct Coben adaptation, he is still heavily involved in the project as a producer.
For All We Ever Wanted, Coben is teaming up with Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine production company, as well as Jessica Goldberg, the writer of the TV show The Path, who has been brought on to bring the book to the screen.
The series logline describes the upcoming project as “a soapy and scandalous drama that uncovers the secrets and class struggles of a wealthy suburb, where a torrid love affair between a ‘have’ mum and ‘have-not’ single dad threatens to expose the sins and lies of all of those around them”.

Jeremy Clarkson has announced he is in remission, updating fans on social media and expressing his gratitude for their support following his revelation that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
The former Top Gear presenter, 66, broke the news in the latest episodes of the fifth series of Clarkson’s Farm, disclosing that the disease was “aggressive” but had been caught at an early stage.
The television personality also confirmed that he underwent surgery to remove part of his prostate, with the series concluding with him revealing he had suffered complications during his treatment.

In a recent interview with The Times, he disclosed that he was now in remission, after a follow-up PSA test two months ago showed no signs of cancer.
He said, as per the Mirror.: “I am without a doubt, officially, the world’s luckiest man. It was an aggressive type of cancer. It could have spread, it could have gone into the pancreas, it could have gone anywhere, and that would have been trouble.”
“This is why I have to say to everybody who’s reading this, please, please, please go and get checked. It’s not uncomfortable, it’s not undignified. And it’s a no-brainer.

“I did, and that’s why I’m sitting here talking to you 11 months down the line. I’ve seen so many people die of cancer. It doesn’t bear thinking about what it must be like to live knowing that an illness is going to kill you.”
Taking to Instagram for the first time since the new series aired, Clarkson shared a post captioned: “Thank you so much for all the kind messages I’ve had but now, a announcement.”
In it, the television presenter urged his followers to “get tested”, even encouraging them to “lie” about having symptoms in order to do so.
“The more observant among you will have noticed that I’m not dead, and I’m not just not dead, I’m perfectly fine. My eyebrows, in particular, are looking very lustrous, and the reason why I’m fine is because the doctors caught the prostate cancer early, and they caught it early because I got tested,” he said in the video posted to social media.
“Now I know a lot of you will say I don’t want to be tested because it means someone will have to put their finger in me, but it’s just a blood test these days, and if you go to your doctor and he says, Well, I’m not going to test you because you don’t have any symptoms, and you’re not in a high-risk category.
“Just lie, just lie, say you have got symptoms, say that you have to get up 32 times in the night for a wee, and that there’s some dribbling, because look, 10, 12,000 people people, men to be honest, men die every year in the UK from prostate cancer. Don’t be one of them. Get tested.”
Clarkson, 66, has been flooded with messages of support after viewers watched him disclose his diagnosis in an episode of his reality TV show. “I’ve got cancer,” Clarkson told farm manager Kaleb Cooper and land agent Charlie Ireland during discussions about harvest planning.

The TV presenter said he expected to be “fine” but would be out of action “for a while”, before revealing in the final episode of the series that he had undergone an operation to remove part of his prostate.
He said: “I won’t know whether it’s worked or not until November probably…The prostate, 10% of it’s dead, the 10% where the cancer is.”
Speaking from a hospital bed at the end of the series finale, Clarkson disclosed he had suffered complications during treatment.

He said: “We started season five with me in a hospital bed and here we are at the end of season five and I’m back in a hospital bed.”
The 66-year-old reflected on what lies ahead for the programme. Clarkson added: “What I wanted to say was if this is all successful, I’ll see you for season six, and if it isn’t, I won’t. Take care, everyone.”
Clarkson’s partner has also expressed her appreciation for the wave of support following his prostate cancer diagnosis.

Irish actress Lisa Hogan, who has been in a relationship with Clarkson since 2017, posted a photograph to her Instagram story showing the presenter seated on a garden chair while holding a camera.
Across the image she wrote “back at the farm”, signalling her return to their residence after attending day two of the races at Royal Ascot in Berkshire. Hogan also shared a screenshot of charity Prostate Cancer UK’s Instagram post expressing gratitude to Clarkson for disclosing his diagnosis and treatment on the Prime Video show, stating it would generate “vital awareness”.

Prior to the new episodes of Clarkson’s Farm dropping on Prime, the former Top Gear host had cautioned viewers that series five was not purely light-hearted entertainment.

He said: “Sombre news – Clarkson’s Farm, ordinarily we try to keep the show bucolic and charming, and cheerful, but two episodes which drop in the middle of the night tonight are, they’re none of those things, really. They’re a difficult watch, they’re really, really difficult.”
Farmhand Gerald Cooper had revealed in a previous series that he too had received a prostate cancer diagnosis, before later confirming he was cancer free in 2024.
Clarkson’s Farm follows the long-standing television presenter and his team as they tackle the trials and tribulations of managing Diddly Squat Farm near Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire.

Hi Sam. Before I get into the questions I’ll just start with a disclaimer! While I cover City here at the MEN, I am very much the support act to Simon – think of me as more of a Scott Carson vibes man – so I’ll do my best to answer what I can but it may not be to the same level of depth and detail!
Anyway, now that’s out of the way, this is one question I can answer. Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali are both of interest to City this summer. As we all know the Blues have had two offers for Anderson knocked back and are now weighing up whether to return with another bid or bide their time in the negotiation process. There remains a belief that a deal for the Nottingham Forest man can be done.
As for Tonali, City view him as an additional option rather than a Plan B if Anderson doesn’t come off. Any prospective move for the Newcastle man is not dependent on what happens with Anderson so there is a chance City could land both this summer, although that would likely cost them upwards of £200million.

So I have grouped these together. We’ve wrapped Anderson up above but in terms of Maresca the short answer is there is no update. The talks between City and Chelsea have taken far longer to resolve than anyone anticipated, certainly City hoped to have things wrapped up by now. But there is no suggestion that it won’t happen. It remains very much a when rather than an if and hopefully an official announcement comes in the next week or two. But given the delay over the past few weeks I would be reluctant to put a timescale on it!

Hi TJ. City want a winger this summer. That position, along with central midfield and right back are the areas of the squad the Blues are seeking to strengthen. Things have gone a bit quiet on the Savinho front but Spurs remain very much interested and feel there is a deal to be done, while City will sell the Brazilian at the right place with around £60million expected to be the agreed fee. City will look to replace Savinho should he depart. In terms of names of who might come in. . . I don’t have any! If and when the Savinho deal is done, then expect the state of play on who could replace him to become clearer.

In terms of City’s optimism. . . the Blues expect to challenge for the title. The departure of Pep Guardiola is obviously a huge change but it’s one City have known would have been coming at some point and behind the scenes they have actively tried to ensure that this moment is as seamless as possible. The Blues do not want, or expect, a dramatic drop off like Manchester United experienced when Sir Alex Ferguson retired. Whether City hit the ground running under Maresca remains to be seen but the powers that be will want to be competing for the title. Arsenal will rightly begin as favourites but with Liverpool under a new manager, Spurs having a lot of work to do and United now having the added burden of Champions League football, there is nothing for the Blues to fear.
Onto the transfer fees, unfortunately that is the way football is now. The £100m player seemed fanciful not too long ago (or is that just me showing my age) but now there’s a whole host of players who move for that amount. You are right in saying it is mad money, and you reference Adam Wharton, who is one of English football’s brightest talents and, when you factor in his ability, his age, his proven Premier League quality, his contract length and his potential, it is easy to see why Palace rate him in that £100m bracket. That is just the going rate and I can’t see it dropping any time soon, particularly while the Premier League continues to generate huge and clubs are able to deliver record revenues as a result.

My chest sagged, for I knew I was about to be pummelled for information by a friend who imagined my job was immensely easy, the money quick, the rewards limitless.
Which can be true, with the right mindset.
Soon, however, her opening remark was qualified. ‘Obviously, though, I can’t show my face, because of my other work. And my boyfriend, my mum, the kids….’

Well, obviously.
‘And I don’t want to actually meet men, because, you know, as a woman, I’m worried about my safety.’
‘And I don’t really want to degrade myself by showing any other body parts either, you know, the private bits. But I understand I can make money just by selling pictures of feet?’

You can. But there are millions of women in your predicament trying that very trick.
Feet content is already the highest revenue generator year on year for porn site Clips4Sale, with countless creators putting up their prices by 56% for things like boot worship and 36% for dirty feet. Put simply, the market is already saturated.
Then you saunter into the scene, waving your newly pedicured trotters vaguely near your phone, feeling thrilled by your own daring, and expect to be a millionaire by sunset? Sister, dream on.
Sometimes the kinkier ones ask to sit in on my own sessions, perhaps give a feeble, misjudged blow to a gentle regular’s kidney, then expect gratitude, a slice of the fee, and me to provide them with more work.
Give a girl a client, she’ll eat for a day; teach a girl to net a client, she’ll eat for life. And I do try to guide them, really I do. Advertise, market yourself, get your own clients, practise walloping a pillow, I urge!

But no. They prefer to turn up at my house and simper at how easy I make it all seem. They want the money I earn without running any of the risks, doing any of the work, or spending decades building up contacts and knowledge, a reputation for delivering on my promises.
Kinksters are slow to trust, reasonably: their lives are in your hands.
And underneath my girlfriends’ pleas for help all I hear is: ‘Obviously, I’m far too valuable and important to degrade myself with any of the disgusting risky muck you undertake, but I really want all the money you have, and this irresolvable conundrum is now your problem, so tell me how to fix it.’
Sorry. I can’t. I realise now how lucky I was to begin sex work so young, when I had nothing to lose, no proper job, no kids, no boyfriend, and to come from such a low social class I suffered no parental expectations either.

My family were never respectable, thank goodness. How the dreadful strain of respectability wears a decent girl down.
Occasionally, however, being bold, and brave, and admitting who you are and what you’ve done, can earn you some grudging respect from the respectable world, too. Why, it even scored me a column in Metro, and a place on the reality show Nobody’s Fool.
You must decide what you want more than anything. If it’s money, and you’re a woman, sex work isn’t a bad option: but it does involve closing off a lot of other options.
For me, it is money, and I regret nothing.
Still, becoming a sex worker reminds me of the Little Mermaid who chose to walk, for love’s sake, every step agony. You must completely surrender any hope of a normal life. It will be painful, and in the first few months, it won’t feel worth it; you’ll make almost no money at all.

FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Newly released video from an officer’s body camera and a surveillance camera at a Texas running track captures the moments after a teenage athlete fatally stabbed another teen from a rival team in the stadium bleachers during a high school meet last year.
Karmelo Anthony, 19, was convicted of murder on June 10 in the death of Austin Metcalf, 17, and sentenced to 35 years in prison. A jury rejected Anthony’s claims of self-defense. The videos were included in a batch of evidence released by the Collin County court following the conclusion of the trial.
The surveillance video shows the track and bleachers on a rainy day. Suddenly a figure wearing a gray sweatshirt is seen popping up from behind a yellow tent and then running down the steps. The video has no sound.
He got to the bottom of the bleachers, tripped and fell on the ground, and then kept running along the edge of the fencing that separates the bleachers from the running track. He stopped briefly, turned to look at what appeared to be someone chasing him, and then kept running.

After making his way part way around the track, he was joined by an unidentified person. They stopped to talk and then hugged. They started walking again and were joined by another person. After talking more, Anthony walked toward the fence where he appeared to meet up with a police officer.
The officer put him in handcuffs and walked him toward the police cruiser. Anthony obeyed the officer’s commands and then started crying.
“He put his hands on me,” Anthony said in a broken voice. “I told him not to. He put his hands on me.”
The officers escorted him to the police cruiser and placed him inside.
