Golden Hour Hues Meet Special Finishes

Golden Hour Hues Meet Special Finishes

OUTFIT DETAILS: Khaite Shirt, Alemais Top, Markarian Skirt (similar here), Chanel Heels, Valentino Bag, Sherman Field & Arielle Ratner Necklaces

There are certain color palettes I find myself almost subconsciously drawn to when summer is in full swing. Citrus, green, coral, gold, and lime all have a sun-worn feeling, but what really brings them to life is texture, shine, and movement.

The colors already have warmth, but the organza, sequins, beads, and glossy finishes give them movement once the light changes. A coral skirt suddenly feels more evening, a yellow top has a little more glow, and even the smallest accessory can make the whole look feel like it belongs somewhere fun.

Together, it feels like a richer way to wear color. Not just bright for the sake of it, but color with texture, depth, and the kind of finish that shifts once the light does.

Suit of the Week: Boden

pink and yellow and blue gingham suit

For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits for women, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional. Also: we just updated our big roundup for the best women’s suits of 2026!

This gingham suit from Boden seems so fun — and it’s on a big discount as part of Boden’s summer sale. While they definitely make an impact when worn together, I think they’d be just as wearable as separates, worn either with a neutral or one of the many colors in the print.

Maybe it’s just me, but I think the blazer when worn with a neutral top and bottom could be a fun opportunity to mix patterns — try adding a floral scarf, for example.

The blazer was $299, but is now marked to $149 and still available in sizes 2-18; the pants were $220 and are now marked to $154 and available in most regular and long sizes.

Looking for something similar? Ann Taylor has a lot of gingham blazers right now.

When Can You Use Your Emergency Fund?

When have you used your emergency fund? Do you dip into it often, or for you is it truly just a “break in case of emergency” kind of situation? If you have a lot more than you would need in non-retirement investments, do you feel like you even need a separate emergency fund?

We’ve talked about where to keep your emergency fund a number of times over the years (and it’s the first step in our general “roadmap” for personal finance), as well as how to calculate your e-fund.

Over the years, I’ve dipped into our emergency fund for things like unexpected tax bills, including a memorable one when we had just moved into a different tax bracket. Every single time that we’ve had to I’ve felt extreme guilt about it.

I don’ t think I’m alone in this, either — a lot of people seem to have no trouble saving an emergency fund, but a much harder time spending it. After years of treating the account as untouchable, it can feel wrong to withdraw money even when the situation is exactly the kind of thing the fund was created to handle.

So let’s discuss:

  • What do you consider a legitimate emergency?
  • Have you ever used your emergency fund, and if so, for what?
  • Do you keep separate funds for job loss, home repairs, medical expenses, and other unexpected costs?
  • Have you ever regretted using (or not using) your emergency fund?
  • Do you view your emergency fund primarily as protection against disaster, or as a source of flexibility and freedom?

Wednesday’s Workwear Report: Crescent Knot Dress

A woman wearing a dark green tie-waist dress with short sleeves

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

This dress from Universal Standard is what I want to live in from June through September. The short sleeves and light fabric keep things cool, but the tie belt still gives me a little bit of a shape. If you work in an office where more than 50% of the people are wearing suits on any given day, this might be a little too casual, but I think it would be totally acceptable in most of the offices I’ve been spending time in lately.

I would wear this with the Mary Janes from Rothy’s that seem to be my go-to shoe for every occasion this season.

The dress is $148 at Universal Standard and comes in sizes equivalent to 00-40. It’s also available in nine other stripes and solids.

The Unexpected Print Mix That Works

Published

The Unexpected Print Mix That Works

OUTFIT DETAILS: Valentino Jacket, Chloe Top, Nili Lotan Pants, Chanel Flats (similar here), Hermes Bag (similar here), Sherman Field Necklaces

The best print mixing isn’t always instinctual. It comes down to a few styling tricks I’ve honed over the years, and none of them are about piling on as many patterns as possible. It is about using print in separate pieces that sharpen one another. A dot can make paisley feel less boho, embroidered florals can bring dimension to prints in the same tone, and an unexpected accessory that just peeks out can push the whole look somewhere more interesting.

If you are hesitant to mix prints, start by looking for one element that ties your pieces together. It might be a shared color palette, a similar scale, or simply a mood that runs through each piece. Once that connection is there, the outfit can handle far more than you might expect.

This look came together almost by accident. Paris turned cooler than I planned, so I reached for pieces I hadn’t planned to wear together, and found I loved the way it all played off itself. The finished look has depth and individuality, especially when pieces come together in a way that feels slightly unexpected.

I mentioned this in our big roundup on the Amazon Prime Day sales — but Away luggage is included in the sale this year, including some exclusive colors like sky blue and bright green.

Readers have been big fans of the brand for years, and I can’t remember seeing it on sale at Amazon (or anywhere, really). The brand features a “patented dual-buckle compression panel” to fit more in with every trip, as well as smooth-rolling spinner wheels and LifetimeCare Coverage.

The pictured Bigger Carry On was $295, but is now marked to $236 (and other colors are marked to $250).
