‘This always seems to happen before Christmas’
A dad has shared video footage of his children’s Christmas presents being stolen from his doorstep. Doorbell footage captured by George Neville-Jones, who lives in central Cambridge, shows the moment his parcels were taken from his doorstep at around 4.45pm on Tuesday (December 9).
The parcels contained new shoes and Christmas presents for his children. George said the parcels were stolen very “brazenly”. He added: “They seem to have taken other parcels in the video. This always seems to happen before Christmas.”
The parcels were delivered by Evri. George added that he thought Evri had “something to answer for”. He said: “We have a hedge, they could have hidden them in there instead of the doorstep.”
An Evri spokesperson said they were sorry to hear the parcels had been stolen. The spokesperson added: “We are committed to helping customers receive their parcels safely and instilling a culture where every parcel matters so those who work with us to treat every parcel like they would for themselves.
“If no preference has been set, our couriers are trained to recognise safe places, such as secure porches, parcel boxes or greenhouses, and will do their best to leave parcels somewhere appropriate and secure. We are sorry in this case the guidance we provided was not followed and we encourage customers to share feedback so we can ensure couriers are delivering with care.”
The parcels were reported stolen to Cambridgeshire Police on Wednesday (December 10). A police spokesperson said: “We were contacted on Wednesday with reports two parcels had been stolen from outside a property in Cambridge. The theft happened the previous day at about 4.45pm.
“Anyone with information should contact police via Cambridgeshire Constabulary’s website using reference 35/93584/25. Anyone without internet access should call 101.”
