The village boasts a range of features that make it stand out from the rest, including a zoo with snow leopards, lions, and lemurs, one of the oldest vineyards, and a spectacular Christmas lights display

While Linton possesses all the characteristics of a charming, picturesque village, several distinctive features elevate it above others – cementing its well-deserved spot on Muddy Stilettos’ 2025 best places to live list. Notable among these are one of England’s most historic vineyards and a zoo housing snow leopards, lions, and lemurs.

Chilford Hall Vineyard saw its first vines planted back in 1972, and today the estate spans 20 acres cultivating nine different grape varieties. Beyond its shop stocking locally-produced wines, the vineyard welcomes visitors for tasting sessions.

For those favouring a pint over a glass of vino, Wylde Sky Brewing calls Linton home. This well-regarded craft beer producer has secured six SIBA Independent Beer Awards, including a bronze national award this year for its Saison.

Wylde Sky Brewing makes its beers available to Linton residents through its on-site shop and taproom. The village offers no shortage of watering holes, with Muddy Stilettos hailing the thatched-roofed Dog and Duck as “the cutest pub around” and praising The Crown Inn as “a really decent pub”.

These establishments also provide food, ranging from upmarket offerings like crab pasta and braised duck leg to more straightforward burgers and pizzas. The village also has an Indian eatery, Bengal Lounge, alongside delightful cafés, The Linton Kitchen and Jigsaw Bakery.

During her visit to Linton Zoo, reporter Nadia Lincoln encountered a variety of “gorgeous animals”, including grazing zebras, slumbering tapirs, chattering exotic birds, climbing binturongs, and leisurely giant tortoises. The zoo is also home to Nefeli, a female snow leopard; Katinka, an Amur tigress; and Kali and Nabulaa, a pair of African lions.

Linton Zoo could be the ideal spot to keep your little ones amused for a few hours. Another captivating attraction can be found in the village during the festive period.

Every year, Linton resident Jordan Cooper puts on a spectacular display of Christmas lights at his house, in tribute to his grandfather.

If you choose to heed Muddy Stilettos’ advice and relocate to Linton, you’ll find that the hustle and bustle of Cambridge City Centre is just a short drive away – approximately 25 minutes by car. However, with its enticing day out options and top-quality food and drink offerings, you might find little incentive to venture beyond Linton.
