10 Forgotten Fantasy Movies That Are Perfect To Watch in 2026
Fantasy might very well be the oldest genre of storytelling. It is used to describe stories that take place in fantastical worlds where monsters, magic, and legendary heroes are present. From there, it can be further broken down into various sub-genres, like the more heroic high fantasy or the grittier dark fantasy. The genre is limited only by the imagination of the storyteller, and oftentimes, fantasy stories are used to teach morals and lessons by representing human fears and anxieties as horrific beasts to be overcome and cast down.
Fantasy movies are pretty much as old as cinema and have expanded quite a bit over the years as new technologies were invented. Naturally, a lot of fantasy movies get overlooked or forgotten about, but if one looks hard enough, there are plenty of hidden gems that represent the genre at its best and most compelling.
‘Ladyhawke’ (1985)
Phillipe Gaston (Matthew Broderick) is a thief known as “The Mouse,” who escapes prison just before his execution on the order of the Bishop of Aquila (John Wood). He is aided by the Bishop’s former guard captain, Etienne of Navarre (Rutger Hauer), and his hawk companion. Etienne coerces Phillipe into helping him take down the Bishop, but during their travels, Phillipe notices that Etienne seems to vanish at night, where he runs into a mysterious woman (Michelle Pfeiffer) accompanied by a black wolf.
Ladyhawke was a box-office bomb on release, but it holds up pretty well today as a fairy tale love story. The romance works thanks to the charisma and believable chemistry between Hauer and Pfeiffer, as well as the mystery surrounding their characters. Phillipe is perhaps the weakest part of the film, since he is more of an observer to the lovers than a proper protagonist, but Broderick still gives a fun performance, especially whenever Phillipe asks God for help.
‘Fire and Ice’ (1983)
The sorcerer rulers of Icepeak, Queen Juliana (Susan Tyrrell) and her son, Nekron (Stephen Mendel), use their power to extend glacial ice southward as the vanguard of their invasion force, driving humans closer to the equator. Soon, only the volcanic citadel of Firekeep stands against them, so Juliana has its princess, Teegra (Maggie Roswell), kidnapped to be Nekron’s bride. Teegra escapes her captors into the wilderness, and finds allies in Larn (William Ostrander), a warrior whose village was destroyed by Nekron, and Darkwolf (Steve Sandor), a mysterious wanderer who is committed to killing the sorcerer king.
Fire and Ice is a beautiful example of 1980s dark fantasy from the mind of Ralph Bakshi. It is structured much like a pulp fiction story, with fast-paced action and a grim world that makes great use of the clash between fire and ice in its backgrounds and landscapes. It also makes great use of rotoscoping to give the characters more lifelike movements, which makes the action sequences feel all the more brutal.
‘The Golden Voyage of Sinbad’ (1973)
After acquiring a golden amulet from a mysterious flying creature, Sinbad the Sailor (John Phillip Law) arrives in Marabia, ruled by its disfigured Grand Vizier (Douglas Wilmer) since the Sultan died without a king. The Vizier tells Sinbad that the amulet is part of a set that can lead the way to the mythical Fountain of Destiny, and Sinbad agrees to come along on an expedition to find it. However, the group is pursued by Koura (Tom Baker), an evil sorcerer who wishes to use the fountain’s power to claim rulership of Marabia.
The Golden Voyage of Sinbad is the second of three Sinbad films made with stop-motion creatures by the legendary Ray Harryhausen. From an animated statue of Shiva that duels our hero to a ferocious centaur that guards the fountain, the creatures stand out thanks to their unique designs and how seamlessly they are blended into the film, at times looking like they are physically interacting with the actors. The story is not quite as well put together as the earlier The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, but it’s still a solid fantasy adventure film, and Baker gives an unforgettable performance as the villain.
‘Legend’ (1985)
With the help of her forest-dwelling companion, Jack O’ the Green (Tom Cruise), Princess Lili (Mia Sara) meets the last two unicorns in the world. Unfortunately, she was followed by the goblin Blix (Alice Playten), who, on the orders of her master, Darkness (Tim Curry), kills the stallion and steals its horn. The crime plunges the world into a dark winter, and Jack and Lili must protect the mare and get the horn back, lest the world never know sunlight again.
Legend tells a simple fairy tale story about good vs evil, but it does it really well. The success is thanks in large part to impressive sets and use of practical effects, which completely transform the actors into mystical creatures, such as Curry’s iconic devilish appearance as Darkness, or Robert Picardo as the foul swamp-hag Meg Mucklebones. If you’re going to watch the movie, try to find the director’s cut, which has additional footage that makes the story and character arcs feel more complete, and music by Jerry Goldsmith.
‘The Adventures of Baron Munchausen’ (1988)
As the Ottoman Empire besieges an unnamed European city in the Age of Enlightenment, Baron Munchausen (John Neville) interrupts a play based on his life’s adventures and criticizes its inaccuracies. He claims that the reason for the attack is due to a bet he made with the Grand Turk, Sultan Mahmud I (Peter Jeffrey), but also claims that he can save the city if he finds his old associates, each of whom possesses superhuman gifts. He is joined on his search by Sally Salt (Sarah Polley), the daughter of the theater troupe leader, but the journey is full of all sorts of perils, while the Angel of Death is always following after the Baron.
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen was the final film in Terry Gilliam‘s “Trilogy of Imagination,” with themes focusing on aging and maintaining one’s relevance as the world seems to progress around them. There is a strong contrast with the film’s extravagant sets and costumes: while the heroes travel through the fantastical world, they can never escape the hard truths of reality and must make peace with them if they hope to move forward. It’s also got a surprise cameo from Robin Williams, who has a non-credited role as the King of the Moon, and it’s as hilarious as any of his best performances.
‘The Last Unicorn’ (1982)
A unicorn (Mia Farrow) overhears two hunters talking about her kind and wonders if she might be the last unicorn in the world. A passing butterfly (Robert Klein) tells her that the unicorns were herded north long ago into the kingdom of King Haggard (Sir Christopher Lee) by a demonic Red Bull. Thus, the unicorn sets out to learn the truth for herself, and receives help from a bumbling magician named Schmendrick (Alan Arkin) and Molly Grue (Tammy Grimes).
The Last Unicorn is unique among fantasy movies thanks to its melancholic tone. The story touches on mature themes like regret, loss, the power of memory, and identity, all told via the interactions with an immortal unicorn who does not know these emotions and humans who do. It also boasts a beautiful art style that looks like a tapestry come to life, haunting songs by America, and a fun fantasy world that leans so heavily into the genre that the familiar tropes are literally part of the world.
‘A Monster Calls’ (2016)
Conor O’Malley (Lewis MacDougall) is a young boy living with his terminally ill mother (Felicity Jones), who is upset both with her worsening condition and the possibility of having to live with his strict grandmother (Sigourney Weaver). One night, he spots a yew tree growing near a church transforming into a monster (Liam Neeson) before seeking him out. The monster tells Conor that it will visit him again and tell him three stories; afterward, Conor must tell the monster a fourth story based on his recurring nightmares.
A Monster Calls is based on the book of the same name by Patrick Ness, who also wrote the screenplay. It’s a brutal and raw film that explores themes of grief, loss, and the complexities of the human experience, told both through Conor’s struggles at home and school and the monster’s stories. Everyone gives their all in this hidden gem masterpiece, but MacDougall in particular stands out thanks to how perfectly he captures Conor’s turbulent state, from cold detachment to raw, unfiltered rage and sadness.
‘Dragonslayer’ (1981)
Galen Bradwarden (Peter MacNicol) is the young apprentice to the last great sorcerer, Ulrich of Cragganmore (Sir Ralph Richardson). One day, his master is approached by an expedition from the kingdom of Urland asking for his help in killing the ancient dragon Vermithrax Pejorative, who has terrorized the kingdom and devoured many young maidens. Ulrich dies when trying to demonstrate his magic powers, but his magic amulet chooses Galen as its new master, so Galen offers his services against the dragon.
It’s amazing to think that Dragonslayer was coproduced by Disney, because a gritty dark fantasy movie is so far removed from the Mouse House’s carefully constructed brand image. The world is gritty, harsh, and unforgiving, with most of its characters falling into different shades of gray morality, doing horrible things in the short term to guarantee long-term stability. The star of the show is Vermithrax itself, brought to life through a diverse array of special effects including stop-motion puppets and massive animatronics, resulting in perhaps cinema’s best dragon.
‘The Adventures of Prince Achmed’ (1926)
Desiring the local Caliph’s daughter, a sorcerer offers a magical flying horse in exchange for her hand in marriage. The Caliph’s son, Prince Achmed, objects to the offer, so the sorcerer lets him test the horse. Unfortunately, he doesn’t tell Achmed how to control the horse, so it whisks the prince away to a far-off land, forcing him to find a way back home.
The Adventures of Prince Achmed has the honor of being the world’s oldest surviving animated film, and is a truly one-of-a-kind experience. Every frame was made through meticulously placing pieces of cardboard against bright backgrounds to create a style reminiscent of shadow puppetry, while still perfectly displaying whatever emotions the characters are experiencing. Though few people today have seen The Adventures of Prince Achmed, its influence can be felt throughout modern adaptations of the One Thousand and One Nights, and the shadow puppet style inspired the Tale of the Three Brothers in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 1.
‘The Secret of Kells’ (2009)
As Viking raiders swarm across Ireland, Cellach (Brendan Gleeson), abbot of Kells, oversees the construction of a great wall, and instructs his young nephew, Brendan (Evan McGuire and Michael McGrath), to stay close to the abbey. One day, the abbey is visited by Brother Aidan (Mick Lally), a master illuminator who is working on the Book of Iona. He recruits Brendan to help him with the illustrations, but as Brendan goes into the woods to find dyes, he meets a fairy named Aisling (Christen Mooney).
The first in a trio of Irish mythology films from Cartoon Saloon, The Secret of Kells is best described with one word: magical. Its art style is enough to hook you in, with stylistic character designs and bright colors that make it feel as if it’s a medieval painting come to life. The story is equally magical, both through the inclusion of the fairy world via Aisling’s friendship with Brendan, and with universal themes of hope, the power of artistic expression, and the dangers of pride.

Hailey Bieber’s $1B Rise Reportedly Flips Her Dynamic With Justin
Hailey Bieber is no longer simply viewed as the woman married to one of the world’s biggest models. Following Rhode’s blockbuster $1 billion sale to e.l.f. Beauty industry insiders claim that, for beauty, Hailey has become the more sought-after Bieber in certain Hollywood and corporate circles. The dramatic shift does not mean there is trouble in Hailey and Justin Bieber’s marriage. However, industry observers believe her rapidly expanding influence has fundamentally changed how Hollywood views the famous couple.

Hailey’s growing business power came into sharper focus after e.l.f. Beauty reported a 36% increase in quarterly sales, reaching $479.4 million. Executives credited much of that growth to Rhode, the skincare company Hailey founded before selling it to the cosmetics giant in a deal valued at $1 billion last year. The transaction did not mark the end of Hailey’s involvement with the brand. She remained with e.l.f. as Rhode’s chief creative officer and head of innovation, allowing her to continue shaping its products and overall direction.
According to a beauty industry executive who spoke to the Daily Mail, the acquisition changed how corporate decision-makers perceive the model and entrepreneur. “The Rhode acquisition wasn’t the finish line,” the executive said. “It was her introduction. She became someone executives wanted in the room when real business decisions were being made.”
Her visibility has also continued outside the boardroom. Hailey frequently attracts attention through her fashion, beauty campaigns, and social media presence, including recent photographs taken aboard a luxury yacht in Europe.
Hollywood Insider Claims There Has Been A ‘Complete Reversal’

For much of their relationship, Justin was unquestionably the more famous half of the couple. His career brought global hits, arena and stadium tours, and an enormous international fan base.
Hailey, meanwhile, was frequently identified through her connection to the singer despite already having a successful modeling career of her own. Industry sources now believe the dynamic has shifted. “There has been a complete reversal,” a veteran studio executive told the Daily Mail. “Five years ago every conversation started with Justin. Today the first question is, ‘Can we get Hailey?’”
An A-list publicist offered a similarly direct assessment of Hailey’s evolution. “Brands aren’t calling because she’s married to Justin anymore,” the publicist said. “They’re calling because she built something investors wish they’d backed sooner. That’s a completely different level of celebrity.”
The comments do not diminish Justin’s musical accomplishments. Instead, they reflect how Hailey has established an independent commercial identity capable of generating major corporate interest.
Justin Bieber’s Return To Performing Has Faced Scrutiny

Hailey’s business momentum arrives as Justin works to rebuild his presence as a live performer. The singer previously stepped away from touring after being diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which temporarily paralyzed part of his face in 2022.
Although his return to the stage has attracted enormous attention, it has also produced divided reactions. His halftime performance during the World Cup Final received mixed responses from viewers, while some of his public appearances have prompted speculation about his well-being.
Neither those reactions nor Hailey’s business success establishes that the couple is experiencing marital problems.
The Daily Mail reporter who conducted the analysis explicitly stated that sources continued to describe Justin and Hailey as devoted parents who remain committed to one another and to their marriage. However, the reporter argued that Hollywood couples can face additional pressure when the balance of fame, opportunity and influence changes significantly between them.
Jessica Simpson And Nick Lachey Faced A Similar Celebrity Shift

To explain the potential challenges created by changing levels of fame, the Daily Mail reporter pointed to Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey. The journalist previously worked as Simpson’s publicist and was present during the defining period of her early career and the end of her marriage. The reporter also wrote the statement announcing the couple’s separation.
When “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica” premiered on MTV in 2003, Lachey was the more established celebrity due to his success with 98 Degrees. That changed as Simpson became the show’s breakout star.
Her endorsements increased, her entertainment career expanded, and her fashion business eventually grew into a billion-dollar brand. “You could actually feel the oxygen leave the room,” the studio executive recalled of being around Simpson and Lachey during that period. “Nick walked into meetings where people were really waiting for her.”
The shift did not prove why their marriage ended. However, the reporter described it as an example of how the professional balance inside a celebrity relationship can change as one partner’s career accelerates. “Everyone around the couple notices it months before they do,” a veteran Hollywood manager told the Daily Mail. “All of a sudden, one calendar matters more. One career starts dictating the other.”
Hailey Bieber Is Now An Entertainment Power Player In Her Own Right

Hailey’s continued leadership role at Rhode suggests she intends to remain actively involved in the company rather than treating its sale as an exit. Her position also distinguishes Rhode’s success from a traditional celebrity endorsement. Hailey founded the company, developed its public identity, and retained a role in its future after negotiating a billion-dollar acquisition.
Justin, meanwhile, remains one of the defining pop stars of his generation.

WNBA Speaks After Former NBA Players Plot On Upcoming Draft
WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert has sent a memo to teams that addresses ongoing discussions around transgender athletes in women’s basketball.
“I know many of you have received questions in recent weeks regarding transgender athlete participation in women’s basketball, and I expect this topic will continue to receive significant attention,” Engelbert wrote in the memo, which was sent Friday afternoon and obtained by The Associated Press. “I wanted to reach out to share how we are approaching these conversations at the league office and to thank those of you who have responded to questions from the media with thoughtfulness and professionalism.”
The memo said the topic will be discussed further by a task force of team presidents and general managers at a previously scheduled meeting next week.
In an ESPN article published last month, Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham voiced support for barring transgender girls and women from girls’ and women’s sports. Cunningham’s comments sparked small rallies and protests in Seattle and Portland when the Fever were on the road last week.
There was a lone protester at the Fever’s home game against Las Vegas on Thursday night. Indiana visits Chicago on Saturday. Members of two conservative groups are planning a rally in support of Cunningham ahead of that game.
The league hasn’t made any public comments on the issue.
Engelbert wrote that the league will “always approach this topic thoughtfully, respectfully, and in alignment with the longstanding values of our league. Second, our player eligibility rules, unlike the eligibility rules of some other leagues and governing bodies, are collectively bargained. Lastly, preserving the integrity of our game and ensuring fair competition will always remain among the league’s highest priorities.”
The league’s collective bargaining agreement states that “only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA,” but it does not include any more specific language about gender identity or sex assigned at birth. On Friday, two former NBA players, Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White, declared themselves eligible for the WNBA draft, saying they identify as women.
“We recognize that this is a complex and nuanced topic, and we will continue to have important conversations with all of you and the Players Association in the weeks and months ahead,” Engelbert said in the memo. “We also plan to convene additional discussions and offer listening sessions for any team leaders who would like to participate. Your perspectives and feedback are invaluable, and I appreciate those who have already reached out to share their thoughts.”
The WNBA players’ association released a statement on social media Friday that emphasized diversity and inclusion while saying the group “will not be used as political pawns.”
“We embrace justice equity, diversity, and inclusion,” the statement read. “Those are the values that unite this Union and allow it to protect women’s sports while creating transformational change. Hate, abuse, and demonization of any person or group of people, including transgender people, only fuel fear, division, and harm. We will continue to have hard conversations. But we will not be used as political pawns.”
Some WNBA players and coaches have come out in support of transgender athletes, including Seattle Storm center Stefanie Dolson and Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve.
“We need to protect trans kids,” Reeve said on Aug. 1. “To me, it’s a human rights issue. Every kid has a right to sports.”

Mama June Issues Blunt Warning Over Pumpkin’s OF Career
Mama June Shannon is standing behind her daughter Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird as the reality star moves deeper into adult entertainment, but she still has concerns about the long-term consequences. Pumpkin has expanded her career by creating explicit OF content and dancing at strip clubs following her 2024 divorce from Josh Efird. Although June acknowledged that her daughter is old enough to make her own choices, the “Mama June: Family Crisis” star warned that the money may eventually come with a personal cost.

Speaking to TMZ, June said she supports Pumpkin’s decision but cautioned that “all money ain’t good money.” Her primary concern is the permanence of the content and the possibility that Pumpkin’s four children could discover it when they are older.
While the children may not currently understand what OF is, June noted that the material could remain online and become accessible to them in the future. Despite those reservations, June insisted the career change has not caused a rift between her and her daughter. Pumpkin is an adult, and June believes the final decision belongs to her.
The reality star also does not necessarily believe Pumpkin will regret creating the content. According to June, her daughter has always been outgoing and is currently enjoying herself while pursuing what she wants.
June even expressed hope that Pumpkin is making “more than $10,000” from the venture.
Pumpkin Reportedly Earned Nearly Six Figures In Two Weeks
Pumpkin claims the financial return has already been substantial. The reality star reportedly told TMZ that she made close to six figures through OF in only two weeks. Some of the videos offered through her page are reportedly priced at approximately $100 each.
She currently creates content with boyfriend Darrin Kitchens, who is related to her former husband through his stepfather. Pumpkin has also discussed plans to expand the type of material she offers, including possible “girl-on-girl” content and potentially filming a threesome with Kitchens.
In addition to OF, Pumpkin has begun making paid appearances as a dancer at strip clubs across the country. She recently performed at Diamonds & Lace in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where patrons threw money while she danced in a pleated skirt and lace bra. Pumpkin has said she earns thousands from those appearances before tips are included.
The combination of online subscriptions, separately sold videos and live appearances has given the mother of four a new income stream outside her family’s reality television franchise.
Pumpkin Previously Wanted To Join OF During The Pandemic
Pumpkin revealed during an April appearance on the “GWF” podcast that she first considered launching an OF account during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her then-husband, however, strongly opposed the idea. “I just wanna make money, you know what I mean?” she said.
After Pumpkin and Efird ended their marriage, she revisited the plan and began creating content with Kitchens. During the same podcast appearance, Pumpkin revealed that some of her subscribers are married men who discuss being unhappy with their wives. “People judge me for that, but at the end, I’m still giving back to my fans,” she reasoned.
Pumpkin Began Dating Her Ex-Husband’s Cousin After Their Divorce
Pumpkin filed for divorce from Efird in August 2024 after six years of marriage. Their divorce was finalized the following month. The former couple shares four children. Pumpkin is also the legal guardian of her younger sister, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson.
After the split, Pumpkin began dating Kitchens, who has been described as Efird’s cousin. She addressed the unusual family connection during an episode of “Mama June: Family Crisis.” “So, I’ve been, like, kinda seeing this dude,” Pumpkin told her family. “He’s been in Josh’s family for a long time…. It’s his cousin.”
Pumpkin Defends Her Romance And Reveals Their Long History
Pumpkin continued defending the relationship while explaining that Kitchens is related to Efird’s stepfather. “But they’re not blood cousins!” she told her friend Paisley.
Pumpkin said she already had a long history with Kitchens before their relationship became romantic. “I’ve known him for a really long time. We were friends back in school, and then he messaged me on social media,” she explained. “We’ve just kind of been talking, and it’s kind of nice.”
Josh Efird Has Also Moved On
Efird entered a new relationship with Breanna Godwin after separating from Pumpkin. The couple welcomed a daughter named Sadie in May of last year. The complicated relationships involving Pumpkin, Kitchens, Efird and Godwin became part of the eighth season of “Mama June: Family Crisis,” which concluded in May.
While June may remain cautious about Pumpkin’s latest career move, she appears unwilling to let those concerns damage their relationship.

Gina Kirschenheiter Reacts to Jeana Keough Tongue Cancer
Real Housewives of Orange County’s Gina Kirschenheiter is sharing her emotional reaction to the news fellow Bravosphere star Jeana Keough is battling tongue cancer.
“The last [I saw] Gina [was] this season, and we have a very good mutual friend, so I kind of knew what was going on with her,” Gina exclusively told Us on Friday, August 6. “I just gave her really big hugs the night that I did see her.”
She continued, “You know, she has so much she’s going through right now. The last thing she needs is another housewife, you know, poking around in her business.”
Jeana’s daughter, Kara Keough, announced her mother was diagnosed with tongue cancer in July.
“A few months ago, while visiting Shane and me in Florida, my mom mentioned a painful spot on her tongue,” Kara wrote via a GoFundMe page to pay for her treatment. “She assumed a tooth had been rubbing against it and had even gone to the dentist multiple times to have the tooth filed down. I asked her how long the sore had been there. She paused, thought about it, and realized it had been nearly a year.”

On July 31, Kara shared an update on her mother’s condition in the midst of her treatment.
“Jeana is home and recovering,” Kara wrote at the time. “She’s done with chemo and only has 2 days of radiation left! After next week’s treatment, she’ll be able to start recovering.”
When speaking to Us, Gina said she was saddened to hear of her friend’s diagnosis — especially at such a happy time in the reality TV star’s life.
“What was so sad too? She met this, like, great guy [at the time] and she was, like, so excited about that,” she said. “And then this all happened, and I feel like, oh, it was just so sad to watch her get to such a good, happy place, and then have this all happen. It’s very sad.”
She added, “I think that everyone rallies around, you know? Anyone who’s going through anything. It’s like a sisterhood. So we, our hearts go out to Jeana and her family, and you know, if she needs anything we’re here for her.”
In her most recent update, Kara shared that her mother’s boyfriend, Thomas, as well as her brother, Colton, have been helping to care for her in the midst of her treatment.
“Her boyfriend Thomas, Colton and I have been in a rotation of care, and she’s being monitored by at least one of us at all times. She isn’t speaking right now, or swallowing anything, but she’s making her thoughts known via texts. She’s still trying to take care of everyone else, but we’re trying to remind her that her priority needs to be her recovery.”

Bear Grylls Couldn’t Be Outspoken About Faith on Celeb Shows
After years of hosting TV shows with celebrity guests, Prime Video’s The Chosen in the Wild allowed Bear Grylls the chance to be more outspoken about his faith.
“It’s like all of us in our lives. There’s times and places and relationships, and you should always adjust accordingly,” Grylls, 52, exclusively told Us about how he has navigated his faith in the public eye. “It’s emotional intelligence.”
Grylls didn’t want any guest to feel isolated.
“Sometimes on Running Wild, I never know the background to these Hollywood stars. They might be from all different cultures or faiths. So you feel your way a little bit more sensitively, and faith is only ever a small part of that journey,” he noted. “A lot of it’s hearing their life story and their battles and triumphs and all of that.”
The Chosen in the Wild With Bear Grylls, however, allowed Grylls to “get straight into that,” adding, “And viewers I think really want that. That’s why they’re watching the show. They want to hear how has it affected you?”
Prime Video’s The Chosen in the Wild follows The Chosen‘s Jonathan Roumie, Paras Patel, Elizabeth Tabish, Noah James and Luke Dimyan as they take on challenges across forests, deserts and canyons with Grylls by their side.

“I think what I was struck by on this series is how all of these actors — they weren’t chosen because they were people of strong faith necessarily,” Grylls told Us. “Actually, many of them came from very different diverse backgrounds of faith and culture, but none of them left the same. That was a powerful bit to hear.”
He continued: “It was a lot of emotion in those characters and in that journey for them. What I love about The Chosen in the Wild is the space and time to actually talk about those things in a real way — where it’s not just a sound-bite. You can actually say, ‘Actually, tell me about that. That sounded hard.’ And you sat around a campfire or on the edge of a cliff and you hear those stories in a very raw, real way.”
Grylls, who shares three kids with wife Shara Cannings Knight, was also thrilled to be on a family-friendly program.
“I want to stand for something good and that’s going to be empowering for families to watch together,” he said before the show’s premiere on Sunday, August 9. “It’s hard sometimes as a parent to know what to watch with your kids and the values that are going to come out. I actually do pride ourselves on that.”

For Grylls, positioning faith at the forefront was a point of pride.
“That is an intentional kind of thing as a team is we try and keep integrity to what we do and true to how we are as individuals,” he explained. “Faith has been a part of my life, as is respect for the outdoors and a love of a fellow man and doing our best and all that good stuff. We try and keep those values at the heart of the show.”
Grylls concluded: “I’m proud that Chosen in the Wild is such a sort of firm, family-friendly, positive, faith-forward, family-impacting type show.”
The Chosen in the Wild With Bear Grylls premieres on Prime Video Sunday, August 9, with all six episodes debuting at launch.

Why One Night Only Director Cut ‘So Much Nudity’ From Movie
It turns out Callum Turner and Monica Barbaro’s new romantic comedy, One Night Only, was pared way down — and for good reason.
“I went through this on two movies. I have long pages of empirical data about it. … I believe it’s been a societal shift from taking nudity in adult situations and putting them on your phones at home for everybody,” director Will Gluck told Variety on Friday, August 7, of various sex scenes in big-budget flicks. “It’s more of a private, intimate thing that people don’t want to see when they’re in a shared experience. Whenever people now see nudity or very adult situations in a big theater, they get uncomfortable.”
To accommodate the viewing trends, Gluck, 47, “cut out so much” while editing One Night Only.
“There was so much nudity in this movie that we shot on the streets. I felt we needed to show the world that way,” he explained to the outlet of the original script. “As we started to show it to audiences, we felt it takes you out of the movie.”
The Easy A filmmaker added, “You’re engaged in the characters and what’s going on, and then you pan over and there’s two naked people having sex, and you watch the audience … it’s a physical thing. They turn to who they’re with and the benefits do not nearly outweigh the negatives of it. We just kept editing it out until we got a balance, and those comments went away.”
One Night Only takes place on the annual evening where premarital sex is legal, making it possible for Allie (Barbaro) to meet Owen (Turner) as they dodge the commotion of singletons hooking up across New York City. In the background of Allie and Owen’s meet-cute, the pair encounter an array of couples celebrating their so-called night of freedom.
“We cast real-life couples in various stages of relationships,” Gluck told Variety of the movie extras. “It was never like we met an extra and were like, ‘You guys are kissing.’ It was fun because there were married couples, people who broke up during the movie and people who became couples, so they could do that.”
Even ahead of One Night Only’s release, the concept went viral for its comparisons to The Purge — but with sex instead of crime. (For the uninitiated, the dystopian Purge franchise takes place during a 12-hour period where all criminal activity is legal.)
“You can’t really describe this movie. [The cast] goes on talk shows and spends 80 percent of the time explaining the rules of the world, and that’s not what the movie is about,” Gluck quipped of One Night Only’s premise. “We have to just let people see it. That’s the best tool we have, especially for something that’s this crazy.”
He continued, “These characters are living [in] this little alternative world that could easily happen … but I really wanted the world to live in the background. I didn’t want the movie to be about that. It’s more about how our characters navigate life.”
One Night Only is in theaters now.

NFL Legend Roger Craig, 66, Announces Dementia Diagnosis
NFL legend Roger Craig made a poignant announcement during his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction speech, revealing that he has been diagnosed with vascular dementia.
“Today, there’s another chapter I want to share,” Craig, 66, said in prerecorded comments on Saturday, August 8. “I have been diagnosed with vascular dementia that my doctors think may be related, at least in part, due to the concussions I experienced during my career.”
Craig was seated on stage as his prerecorded comments were played for the star-studded audience at Tom Benson Stadium in Canton, Ohio, during the annual ceremony. He was formally inducted into the Hall of Fame by former teammate and childhood friend, Jamie Williams, earlier in the evening.
Per the Alzheimer’s Association, vascular dementia is characterized by “a decline in thinking skills caused by conditions that block or reduce blood flow to various regions of the brain, depriving them of oxygen and nutrients.” Common symptoms include disorientation, confusion and memory loss, difficulty walking and numbness or paralysis on one side of the body. (There is currently no cure for vascular dementia.)
“The changes were gradual,” Craig said of his own symptoms. “At first, they were easy to dismiss as normal aging. Over time, my family noticed, too.”
During his speech, Craig openly grappled with the possibility that the very sport that made him a household name may have also contributed to his declining health.
“Two things could be true. Football gave me opportunities beyond anything I can imagine. It helped shape the man I became,” he said. “At the same time, we know more today about brain health than when I played. I hope sharing my story encourages people to pay attention to their health and seek help when something doesn’t feel right.”
Craig stressed that he still has much more he wants to accomplish in life because “this diagnosis doesn’t define me.”

“I am still Roger Craig. I am still a father, still a husband, a teammate, a friend and someone who loves this game and the people who brought it to my life. If sharing my story helps even one family or one former player, then it’s worth it,” he said. “Football gave me everything: opportunity, discipline, lifelong friends and the platform to grow as a man. This honor belongs to my parents who started it all.”
Craig was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday as part of the seniors category. His fellow inductees this year included Drew Brees, Larry Fitzgerald, Luke Kuechly and Adam Vinatieri.
The running back made his NFL debut for the San Francisco 49ers in 1983 and remained with the team through 1990, during which time he was named the Associated Press‘ NFL Offensive Player of the Year for 1988. The three-time Super Bowl champion later played with the Los Angeles Raiders and Minnesota Vikings before retiring in 1993.
“What means the most is knowing [I] helped expand what people thought a running back could be. None of that happens without great teammates,” Craig said during his induction speech. “What made those 49ers teams special: We weren’t selfish. We didn’t care who got the credit. We cared about winning.”
In December 1985, Craig made history as the first NFL player to have 1,000 yards rushing and receiving in the same season.
Roger tied the knot with college sweetheart Vernessia Craig in 1983. They share five children.

Why TJ Jackson Is Defending Perez Hilton Despite Painful History
TJ Jackson is refusing to celebrate Perez Hilton’s hospitalization despite the gossip blogger’s painful history with his famous family. The son of Tito Jackson and nephew of the late Michael Jackson revealed that he is praying for Hilton after the blogger was hospitalized following a severe mental health crisis. Although some social media users argued that Hilton’s past behavior made him undeserving of sympathy, Jackson insisted that he was not raised to find pleasure in another person’s suffering.

Jackson first addressed the situation on X after seeing widespread discussion about a disturbing livestream involving Hilton. The singer explained that he had no interest in viewing footage from the incident but acknowledged what he had heard about it.
“Everybody is talking about this Perez Hilton video. I haven’t seen it but from what I’ve heard it’s horrible,” Jackson wrote. “One thing I’ll say…He hasn’t been nice to many celebs, including my family.”
Despite Hilton’s previous treatment of the Jacksons, TJ said he still wanted him to recover. “Nevertheless, I never want to see anyone broken and in such a dark place. I am praying for his healing and his health,” the performer added.
Responses were divided between those who praised Jackson’s compassion and others who believed Hilton’s history of attacking celebrities made him unworthy of grace. When one person said they hoped never to see the video and wanted Hilton to be safe, Jackson responded that he agreed “100%.”
“And hopefully one day he will find his way and inspire others who make a living negative talking/slandering others to choose a different route and be better themselves, to lean into LOVE more,” he wrote. “That’s the way to really live life to the fullest.”
Michael Jackson’s Nephew Rejects ‘Revenge’ And ‘Karma’
After receiving continued pushback, Jackson returned to X on Thursday to explain why he would not change his position. “I’ve gotten so many comments disagreeing with my last posts on Perez Hilton that it’s actually sad to me,” he wrote.
Jackson acknowledged that Hilton had hurt numerous people, including members of his own family. However, he said his upbringing prevented him from wishing additional pain on the blogger. “Again, I know he was absolutely awful to so many (including my family), but I just wasn’t raised or taught to want worse for people. It’s just not the way,” Jackson declared. “There is no beauty in ‘revenge’ or joy in ‘karma.’”
“If you disagree, I believe you are playing the wrong game in life or at least living by the wrong set of rules… A healthy ego doesn’t need to feel justified,” he added.
Jackson also urged the public to respect Hilton’s privacy while his family navigates the crisis. “I believe he (yes, even he) deserves privacy and will pray for his healing and strength for his kids and family during this painful time and hope you all do too,” he concluded.
TJ Jackson Turns To Martin Luther King Jr.’s Message Of Love
After another user applauded his decision to pray for Hilton, Jackson shared a quotation from Martin Luther King Jr. that has continued to influence him. “One of my favorite MLK quotes is ‘I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.’ And not saying it’s always been easy, but as I get older it’s clear to me… it’s the only way,” Jackson said.
His reaction carried particular weight because of Hilton’s conduct surrounding Michael Jackson’s death in June 2009. Before the King of Pop’s death was confirmed, Hilton falsely suggested that reports of the singer suffering cardiac arrest were merely part of a publicity stunt intended to promote his “This Is It” concerts in London. “Get your money back, ticket holders!!!!” Hilton wrote while alleging that the health emergency was a hoax.
The blogger also claimed that “[Jackson] pulled a similar stunt when he was getting ready for his big HBO special in ’95 when he ‘collapsed’ at rehearsal!”
Once Michael’s death was confirmed, Hilton removed the post and replaced it with a link to reporting about the tragedy. Despite that painful history, TJ made clear that he does not view Hilton’s current crisis as an opportunity for revenge.
Perez Hilton Was Hospitalized Following A Mental Health Crisis

Hilton, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., was transported to a hospital Tuesday after concerned viewers contacted authorities about his TikTok livestream. Police responded to his Miami-area home and attempted to communicate with him before bringing the incident to a close.
“Mario, it’s the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, please step out of the house,” a deputy was heard saying in surveillance footage captured by a neighbor’s doorbell camera.
The livestream was eventually removed, and TikTok reportedly banned Hilton’s account. The platform subsequently faced criticism over how long the footage remained available.
Hilton was surrounded by loved ones at the hospital Wednesday, including his sister, Barbara Lavandeira.
Perez Hilton’s Family Asks For Privacy

His three children, niece and sister had reportedly been at his home shortly before the crisis began. According to a statement shared through Hilton’s website, the family “immediately fled” to prevent the children from “witnessing any further trauma.”
Hilton’s family later addressed the effect the incident had on his children and asked the public to stay away from their home. “Our family cannot express enough our continued gratitude for the overwhelming outpouring of love, support, and prayers we have received during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement began. “The events of the past several days have been nearly unbearable for our family.”
The family explained that helping Hilton’s children recover was its immediate priority. “Our highest priority right now is helping the children begin to heal from what they experienced. An important part of that process is allowing them to safely return home and begin rebuilding a sense of security and normalcy.”
“For the children’s safety, privacy, and well-being, we respectfully ask members of the media, paparazzi, content creators, and the public to leave the area surrounding the family’s home and not return. Please allow his children the privacy and space they need during this unimaginably difficult time.”

John Goodman Is ‘Unrecognizable’ After Dramatic Weight Loss
John Goodman surprised fans with his dramatically slimmer appearance after unexpectedly crossing paths with fellow actor David DeLuise at a supermarket. DeLuise shared an Instagram selfie with the “Roseanne” star, whose transformation looked especially striking compared to his years playing Dan Conner on the beloved sitcom. Goodman previously revealed that he weighed as much as 400 pounds before making sweeping lifestyle changes that eventually helped him shed approximately 200 pounds.

Goodman became a television favorite while starring opposite Roseanne Barr in “Roseanne,” which originally aired from 1988 until 1997. His size was frequently incorporated into jokes and storylines throughout the sitcom’s original run. However, his latest appearance shows how significantly his body has changed in the decades since.
DeLuise, known for playing Jerry Russo on “Wizards of Waverly Place,” happened to encounter Goodman while shopping and excitedly documented the moment. “He was my childhood !!” DeLuise wrote alongside the selfie, adding a heart emoji. “Legend! I love that I get to say that to someone 😉 If you know you know.”
Fans could hardly believe that was Goodman in the snap with DeLuise. “Is that John Goodman???? @daviddeluise he’s unrecognizable,” one fan wrote. “Yes, he looks very different, but I bet he feels great!” another chimed in.
John Goodman’s Transformation Began After Rehab
Goodman’s health journey began with his decision to seek treatment for alcohol addiction in 2007. The actor has previously acknowledged that his drinking continued for decades and sometimes occurred while he was working.
“It was 30 years of a disease that was taking its toll on everyone around me, and it had got to the point where, every time I did it, it was becoming more and more debilitating. It was life or death,” Goodman told The Guardian in 2012. “It was time to stop.”
After entering rehab and giving up alcohol, Goodman began changing his eating and exercise habits. By 2010, he had lost approximately 100 pounds. The transformation involved removing sugar from his diet and exercising six days a week with celebrity trainer Mackie Shilstone, who has also worked with Serena Williams.
Goodman later reflected bluntly on how much of his time and attention had previously revolved around food. Being heavier, he said, had been “a waste,” adding, “It takes a lot of creative energy to sit on your a-s and figure out what you’re going to eat next.”
The ‘Roseanne’ Star Adopted A Mediterranean-Style Diet

Shilstone placed Goodman on what he described as a “Mediterranean-style eating plan.” The actor’s fitness routine included using a treadmill and elliptical while working toward 10,000 to 12,000 steps each day.
According to Shilstone, Goodman remained motivated by the memory of how he had felt at his highest weight. The trainer said the actor “remembers what it feels like to be extremely heavy and it’s something he doesn’t want again.”
Goodman also credited portion control with helping him change his relationship with food. The approach represented a major shift from his former habit of “just shoving everything into my mouth.”
Even while discussing his success, the actor remained cautious about presenting himself as a weight-loss role model. “But I don’t want to be an example to anybody when the weight comes thundering back on, when I start eating Crisco out of the can with a spoon and a side of confectioner’s sugar,” Goodman joked to AARP.
Despite his concern that the weight could return, Goodman continued making progress. By 2023, he confirmed that he had lost approximately 200 pounds.
John Goodman Has Not Spoken To Roseanne Barr In Years

Goodman recently revealed that he has been out of contact with his former “Roseanne” co-star for nearly a decade. The actor told The Hollywood Reporter that he has not spoken to Barr “for about seven or eight years.”
That timeline roughly coincides with ABC canceling the “Roseanne” revival in 2018 following Barr’s controversial social media posts. The franchise subsequently continued as “The Conners,” with Goodman leading the cast after Barr’s character was removed. “I’d rather doubt if she wants to talk to me,” Goodman said of his former onscreen wife.
Despite their estrangement, Goodman remembered their early working relationship fondly and praised the chemistry that helped make “Roseanne” a television phenomenon. “We hit it off from jump street. She made me laugh, and I made her laugh, and wow, it was so much fun,” he recalled. “We’d get so many viewers for the show back then, 20, 30 million people. Things are so different now, but it was a special time.”
John Goodman Has Several New Projects Ahead

Goodman has remained busy professionally throughout his health transformation. The actor is involved in the podcast drama “Hindsight: The Day Before,” playing Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, who is associated with the famous observation that “free speech would not protect a man in falsely shouting fire in a theater and causing a panic.”
Goodman’s upcoming film projects include “The Hollywood Hitman,” in which he plays himself, and the horror movie “Skeletons,” starring Brie Larson and Willa Fitzgerald.
He will also appear alongside Tom Cruise and Riz Ahmed in “Digger,” an oil-industry satire directed by “Birdman” and “The Revenant” filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu. The movie is scheduled to reach American theaters in October.
