Ras Al Khaimah unveils classic taxi service to add heritage twist to tourist transport
Ras Al Khaimah Transport Authority (RAKTA) has launched a new Classic Taxi Service aimed at enhancing mobility options for residents and visitors while supporting the emirate’s growing tourism sector. The service officially commenced on 12 December 2025 and forms part of RAKTA’s wider strategy to improve transport services and connectivity across key leisure destinations.
The Classic Taxi Service is designed to offer a heritage-inspired travel experience, drawing on traditional modes of transport once used in the emirate. By blending nostalgia with modern operations, the initiative seeks to reinforce Ras Al Khaimah’s cultural identity while adding a distinctive option to its public transport network.
The classic taxis will operate along a number of designated routes focused on popular tourism areas. These include internal routes within Al Marjan Island, a direct connection between Al Marjan Island and Al Qawasim Corniche in both directions, and an extended route running along the Al Qawasim Corniche itself.

According to RAKTA, these routes are intended to improve connectivity between major waterfront and leisure destinations while offering visitors a memorable way to explore the area.
Operating hours for the service have been set from 4:00pm to 10:00pm daily, aligning with peak tourism and leisure periods. The evening schedule is intended to allow passengers to enjoy scenic journeys that complement the visual identity and tourism-focused nature of the classic taxis.
Commenting on the launch, H.E. Eng. Esmaeel Hasan Al Blooshi, Director General of RAKTA, said, “The launch of this new service comes as part of RAKTA’s efforts to strengthen the transport system and provide diverse and flexible mobility options that meet the needs of various users.” He added that the Classic Taxi Service represents “a qualitative addition that reflects the cultural character of the Emirate and enhances its tourism appeal”.
RAKTA said the service reflects its ongoing commitment to developing innovative and high-quality transport solutions that keep pace with Ras Al Khaimah’s urban and tourism growth. The authority aims to support quality of life for residents while positioning the emirate as a leading destination for visitors seeking both modern infrastructure and cultural experiences.
The Classic Taxi Service is the latest in a series of initiatives designed to strengthen Ras Al Khaimah’s transport network and reinforce its reputation as an increasingly connected and tourism-friendly destination.
