Maresca’s team will be out soon, so let’s see how it differs from the XI that he used in training. That was: Donnarumma, Nunes, Dias, Reis, Gvardiol, Kovacic, Reijnders, Foden, Savinho, Semenyo, Marmoush

They were working meticulously and it feels like Maresca will want to see what he saw yesterday on the ball. That is a strong team that wouldn’t look out of place starting the Community Shield given the absences City have got.

YouTuber ‘grabbed from bike’ by UK police before they realise who he is

Published

on

Daily Mirror

The YouTuber, who also posts on Instagram and TikTok, thought he was being robbed after they descended upon him suddenly as he rode along the path

A YouTuber says he was grabbed from his e-bike by plain clothes police officers wearing tracksuits – and then they realised who he was. Carmine Stones had no idea the men were officers when they suddenly seized him on a canal path in Manchester.

He was convinced he was being set upon by “a group of thugs”. The 21 year old initially believed he was about to be robbed before the tracksuit-wearing men identified themselves and produced their warrant cards.

Footage recorded on Carmine’s GoPro captures him pleading: “Wait, please stop. Stop, please.” The officers immediately announced that they were police, prompting Carmine to repeatedly demand to see their warrant cards.

One officer explains: “We stopped you because of your electric bike, okay?” After Carmine says that its assisted speed is capped at 15.5mph, one of the officers suddenly appears to recognise him.

The officers then reveal that they are targeting suspected drug dealing and knifepoint robberies involving e-bikes. Having inspected the bike, the officers in the video confirm it is road-legal and apologise for the extreme nature of the stop.

The officer says: “Sorry to scare you like that, mate. I know it’s a bit extreme.” They also commended Carmine for wearing a helmet and urged him to stay vigilant owing to the number of e-bikes reportedly being stolen in the area.

Carmine, from Oldham, Greater Manchester, produces videos about bicycles and local news for his @‌Kurrgas social media channels, including Instagram and TikTok, where collectively he has many tens of thousands of followers. He said the incident took place around three months ago on a canal near Manchester Piccadilly.

“I didn’t notice them until they grabbed me and pulled me off my bike,” Carmine said. “It definitely scared me because, at first, I thought I was being attacked by a group of thugs.

“It was mainly because of the way they were dressed and the number of officers involved. Once they started speaking, though, it became clear they were police officers.”

Carmine said the officers produced their warrant cards straight away and professionally explained the reason for the stop. He said: “At the time it was frightening and made me feel uncomfortable.

“Afterwards, I could laugh about it because it had all been recorded, but it did make me nervous about riding along canals for a while. I was mainly shocked at first, but also relieved that they weren’t taking my bike.”

Despite his ordeal, Carmine said he backs police carrying out proactive operations against weapons and criminal activity. He added: “Considering the recent issues with knife crime, I support proactive policing like this.

“Although I wouldn’t want to experience being stopped like that again, I understand why they were carrying out the operation.”

Greater Manchester Police said: “Officers working in the Harpurhey area as part of an operation to tackle nuisance and anti-social e-bikes conducted a stop of a man to ensure the bike complied with road regulations. The officers identified themselves as they did so, before they ensured the bike was fit and legal to be on the road.

“The bike was deemed to be in compliance with the relevant laws and the man was free to leave shortly after.” The force confirmed that e-bikes are amongst the most commonly reported antisocial behaviour complaints it receives.

It added that officers deploy a variety of tactics to tackle the problem, including the use of covert and plain-clothes teams. The footage attracted millions of views and sparked debate amongst viewers about how they would have reacted.

One viewer joked: “Bruh, I would not have stopped. I probably would’ve ended up going in the water.”

Another praised the officers, writing: “They are actually good officers.” JD Sports’ official account also waded into the reactions, joking: “Blue Light Card got rinsed for this operation.”

Ayrshire marks 240 years since the book that launched Robert Burns

Published

on

Daily Record

The publication would transform Robert Burns’ life and secure his place as Scotland’s National Bard.

Rare Burns artefacts, historic documents and a printing press will help bring a pivotal moment in Scotland’s literary history to life as Ayrshire commemorates the 240th anniversary of the Kilmarnock Edition.

In July 1786, a little-known poet from Ayrshire saw his first collection, Poems, Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect, printed in Kilmarnock.

The publication would transform Robert Burns’ life and secure his place as Scotland’s National Bard.

Now, 240 years later, a programme of exhibitions, events and activities across East Ayrshire will explore the story behind the book that changed both Burns’ future and Scotland’s cultural identity.

At the heart of the celebrations is the Dick Institute in Kilmarnock, where visitors will be able to see rare objects linked to Burns and the world that shaped him.

Among the highlights is the Kirk Session Book, believed to be the only known document in the world bearing both the signatures of Robert Burns and Jean Armour.

Visitors will also be able to see a replica of the printing press used to produce the Kilmarnock Edition, bringing to life the craft and innovation behind the publication that launched Burns’ career.

The exhibition will explore how advances in printing helped spread ideas, literature and learning at a time when Scotland was becoming a centre of intellectual and cultural change.

The anniversary programme also includes A Type of Enlightenment, an exhibition exploring the history of printing and its role in shaping the Scottish Enlightenment.

Contemporary artist Graham Fagen’s exhibition, The Kilmarnock Edition, offers a fresh perspective on Burns’ story by examining the poet’s planned emigration to Jamaica before the success of the Kilmarnock Edition changed the course of his life.

Through themes of identity, migration, empire and memory, the exhibition invites visitors to consider how different history might have been had Burns boarded the ship he intended to take.

The programme also celebrates Burns’ life in nearby Mauchline, where visitors can discover sites connected to the poet and Jean Armour, including the room where they once lived, the graves of people who inspired characters in his poems, and locations that reveal the real stories behind some of his most famous verses.

As well as celebrating the past, the programme will encourage new generations to engage with Burns’ work. Through activities at Poets’ Corner, opportunities for aspiring writers to share their own work through the Post a Poet competition, and creative experiences such as Rab’s Summer School at the Killie Print Shop, young people will be invited to explore poetry, storytelling and the printing traditions that helped launch Burns’ career 240 years ago.

By connecting Burns’ legacy with today’s young voices, the programme aims to inspire the next generation of writers, poets and storytellers.

Celebrations will take place across East Ayrshire throughout 2026, inviting residents and visitors alike to explore the extraordinary story of the poet, the people around him and the book that made his name, while inspiring a new generation to discover Burns for themselves.

Rare Rowntree’s chocolate auctioned in Yorkshire town

Rare Rowntree's chocolate auctioned in Yorkshire town

The box – which originally contained just a single bar of Rowntree’s chocolate – is one of the rarest commemorative wares produced for the royal event.

Auctioneers at David Duggleby believe it is only the second to be seen in an auction this century.

For the coronation, Rowntree’s of York – alongside all the country’s major chocolate manufacturers – produced thousand of souvenir coronation tins which were distributed across the nation.

They were decorated with painted portraits of the King Edward and Queen Alexandra.

The King and Queen supplied tins of the Rowntree chocolate for Coronation Dinners that were arranged for ‘the poor of London’ and for a Royal housemaids tea.

But the confectionery company also commissioned silversmiths Cooper Brothers and Sons from Sheffield to produce a small number of solid silver versions.

The King and Queen were given silver versions and the others went to members of the Rowntree family.

Prior to bidding opening on the lot auctioneer Coralie Thomson said there had been “lots of pre-auction interest in this one”.

And following a short bidding war at David Duggleby in Scarborough, the gavel was raise and the Edwardian tin was sold for the huge figure.

Holly Hammond from auctioneers said the item was “incredibly rare”.

She said: “This is in a completely different league, about as rare as it gets.

“The only other example that we have been able to find ever going under the hammer was back in 2007, in London, a box that was reportedly given by a member of the Rowntree family to their coachman and passed down in his family.

“This box retains its original red leather case and is in quite remarkable condition.

“It bears the Cooper Brothers stamp and is hallmarked Sheffield 1901, the year before the Coronation – which brings us on to a surprise, the fact that the date of the Coronation emblazoned on the tin, June 26th 1902, is wrong.”

“That’s down to the fact that the King and Queen were due to be crowned on June 26th but King Edward was taken ill with an abdominal abscess that required surgery shortly before the date and the ceremony was postponed for six weeks.

“The coronation did not actually happen until 9th August.”

Holly added that it is was a “blessing” that the chocolate was no longer in the tin.

Why you should have enough protein with every meal

Published

Why you should have enough protein with every meal

IF you have been to the supermarket recently, you will probably have noticed the word protein everywhere.

There are protein yoghurts, protein cereals, protein bars, protein drinks and even protein chocolate. It seems like every week there is another product promising to help you get more protein into your diet.

Protein is one of the most important nutrients our bodies need. It helps repair muscles, supports our immune system and keeps our bodies working properly. It also becomes even more important as we get older.

As we age, we naturally lose muscle. This is completely normal, but losing too much muscle can make everyday life more difficult. Climbing stairs, carrying shopping or even getting out of a chair can become harder if we do not look after our muscles.

That is why eating enough protein and doing some regular strength training go hand in hand.

Protein also helps your body recover after exercise. Whether you have been walking, gardening, swimming or lifting weights, your muscles need protein to repair themselves and become stronger.

Another reason protein has become so popular is because it helps keep you feeling full. A meal that includes a good source of protein is often much more satisfying than one that is mostly made up of refined carbohydrates. This can help reduce snacking and make it easier to manage your weight.

One question I get asked a lot is whether people need all these new protein products. For most people, the answer is no.

You can get plenty of protein from everyday foods without spending extra money.

Chicken, turkey, fish, eggs, lean beef, milk, Greek yoghurt, cottage cheese, beans, lentils and chickpeas are all excellent sources of protein.

The aim is to include some protein with each meal rather than eating most of it at the end of the day.

For breakfast, try eggs on wholemeal toast or Greek yoghurt with fruit.

For lunch, choose chicken, tuna or cottage cheese in a sandwich or salad.

For your evening meal, include lean meat, fish or beans alongside plenty of vegetables and some potatoes, rice or pasta.

A good guide for most adults is to aim for around 20 to 30 grams of protein with each main meal. You do not need to count every gram, but having a rough target helps build balanced meals.

With regular movement and strength training, it can help you stay stronger, recover better and continue doing the things you enjoy for many years to come.

The new, painful side effect of Mounjaro no one is talking about – and no, it’s not hair loss, sagging skin or any of the others. Our top expert reveals what’s going on and how to protect yourself

Published

on

'Ozempic feet' are surprisingly common; fat loss on the sole of the foot causes more pressure on the ball and toes, meaning walking in heels can be especially painful for those suffering it

Of all the side-effects of weight-loss jabs, this might just be the strangest one yet: Welcome to the rise of ‘Ozempic feet’.

For some, the weight loss of dropping down a dress size also sees them develop painful foot conditions.

Jatender Chaggar, senior foot health practitioner at the Foot-Map clinic, says he’s seen a 4 per cent increase in ‘patients experiencing rapid “foot fat” loss due to GLP-1 weight-loss medications’.

The fat loss on the sole of the foot is like an inflatable being slowly let down, resulting in more pressure on the ball and toes.

Although there is no strong evidence that GLP-1 medications directly cause foot problems, the physical changes associated with major weight loss, including reduction of naturally cushioning fat pads, changes in muscle mass, gait and pressure distribution, may result in stress and pain on certain areas of the foot.

So if you’ve lost weight on the jabs and are struggling in your mules this summer, that might be why.

‘Ozempic feet’ are surprisingly common; fat loss on the sole of the foot causes more pressure on the ball and toes, meaning walking in heels can be especially painful for those suffering it

This loss of padding can also be exacerbated by hormonal shifts in menopause and reduced collagen from ageing. Leading podiatrist and brand founder Margaret Dabbs warns: ‘As we age, the fat pads in our feet can migrate and become thinner and GLP-1s may potentially reduce soft tissue support further. This natural cushioning normally helps absorb impact when walking and supports the foot structure.’

Which is why many of us – particularly when wearing high heels – find it more tiring being on our feet as we get older.

So, what is the best way to ease Mounjaro or Meno Foot without resigning yourself to a life of slippers? Here’s what our experts advise…

1. Get support

Dabbs says, ‘There is not just one cause of heel or metatarsal pain [a burning or tingling on the ball of the foot] and your first point of call should be to book a podiatrist appointment for a full diagnostic assessment (available from £85 at margaretdabbs.co.uk).’

Leading podiatrist and brand founder Margaret Dabbs says the natural cushioning in our feet becomes thinner with ageing, but custom shoe inserts or foot creams can help

Moulded orthotics, custom-made shoe inserts to support the foot and provide shock absorption, are also worth investing in (assessments from £90, prescription orthotics from £400).

2. Fill your feet

‘The plantar fat pads act as shock absorbers,’ says Dr Manav Bawa, Medical Director of Time Clinic. ‘So when that cushioning reduces, patients may experience increased pressure in the heel and forefoot, tenderness on hard surfaces, or a sensation that their feet tire more quickly.

‘In some cases, it can even unmask or worsen underlying issues such as metatarsalgia [pain on the ball of the foot] or plantar fasciitis [stabbing pain on the bottom of the heel linked to repetitive strain].’

Dermal filler, such as Juvéderm, can replace cushioning. Often known as a ‘Loub Job’ – a phrase inspired by Christian Louboutin heels – filler is placed into the heel and ball of the foot to improve shock absorption (from £400). The results can last 6-12 months with maintenance treatments once or twice a year.

Filler in the feet must be administered conservatively by an injector with strong anatomical knowledge, says aesthetician Dr Sophie Shotter, ‘Because the tissues are thinner and there are important blood vessels and structures that can be at risk if product is placed incorrectly.’ She adds: ‘It’s also important to understand that addressing volume loss doesn’t change the underlying cause, so maintaining stable weight and wearing supportive footwear is just as important.’

Chaggar, whose clinic is linked to Altimus sportswear in Kensington, recommends trainers such as Asics Metaspeed or Asics Kayano (£180, altimusoutdoor.com).

3. Keep fit

To ease ‘Ozempic feet’, Dabbs recommends foot exercises twice a day. These reduce stiffness, improve circulation, maintain joint flexibility and strength. Try ten reps for each foot, which only takes three to five minutes.

Foot exercises, including using a resistance band, can reduce stiffness and increase strength

Foot exercises, including using a resistance band, can reduce stiffness and increase strength

  • Toe raises/heel raises: Stand with feet hip-width apart. Slowly lift your heels off the ground, balancing on your toes for three seconds, then lower.
  • Toe curls: Sit on a chair, place a towel on the floor, and try to scrunch it toward you with your toes. Hold the position for three seconds then relax.
  • Ankle circles: Sit or lie down. Lift one foot and slowly rotate the ankle clockwise, then counterclockwise.
  • Heel-to-toe walking: Walk in a straight line, placing your heel directly in front of the toes of the other foot each step.
  • Resistance band exercises: Loop a resistance band around the ball of your foot. Push your foot away (plantarflexion) or pull it toward you (dorsiflexion).
  • Calf stretch/Achilles stretch: Stand facing a wall, one foot behind the other, heel on the ground. Lean forward to stretch the back leg. Hold for five seconds and then alternate.

4. Cream matters

‘Skin on our feet is 15 times thicker than other parts of the body, which is why foot lotion is advised,’ says Dabbs.

‘Applying with a short massage helps circulation, bringing nutrients to the area and relieving muscle tension.’

Pedicurist Bastien Gonzalez (pedicure £145, mandarinoriental.com) says fat pads can be plumped with massage.

Try Margaret Dabbs Miracle Foot Cream (£24, margaretdabbs.co.uk), The Body Shop Peppermint Invigorating Foot Cream (£12, thebodyshop.com) and Reverence de Bastien Le Baum (£95, niche-beauty.com).

5. Audit your socks

‘When fat pads thin out, the nerves on top of the foot become hypersensitive,’ points out Chaggar.

‘Switch to seamless, moisture-wicking socks to reduce friction and prevent the burning sensations (paresthesia) often triggered by fabric rubbing against the skin.’

Try Bamboo Ankle Socks from Panda Food (£18.71, pandafood.co.uk).

Harry Potter star ‘earns more on OnlyFans in one year than her entire acting career’

Harry Potter star ‘earns more on OnlyFans in one year than her entire acting career’

Former Harry Potter child star Jessie Cave has spoken about turning to OnlyFans after her acting career slowed down.

The 39-year-old played Lavender Brown in the Harry Potter films as a teenager and went on to land roles in Call the Midwife and on the West End.

But the mother-of-four has now detailed how work started to slow down last year and she didn’t know where to turn.

In a new interview, Cave said she couldn’t afford to do a new degree and couldn’t get a job in a supermarket, because of childcare costs and fears of customers ‘shouting Harry Potter spells’ at her.

Describing it as a ‘point of complete desperation,’ Cave told The Times she had a ‘breakdown’.

In March 2025, she joined the mostly-explicit content sharing platform OnlyFans, with a viral first post that got her 3,500 subscribers.

Cave posts fully clothed ‘hair content’, in which she brushes her hair, which falls to her pelvis, while dressed as characters including Lavender Brown.

‘I thought I’d make five grand, be on it for a few months and it would buy me time to work out what we’re going to do,’ she told the publication. ‘But it’s now been over a year and a half and it’s genuinely saved our lives.’

She added: ‘My rule is the hair is the main character. That’s how I justify it. It’s literally about hair: the texture of hair. The fetish. It’s very, very niche.’

Cave said her subscribers pay $6 a month, with additional revenue coming from paid-for messages. She said that in one day, she made £15,000 and that in one year, she’s earned more than during her entire acting career.

What has Jessie Cave acted in?

Before scoring the Harry Potter role, Jessie Cave acted in the CBBC drama Summerhill in early 2008.

She landed Lavender Brown through an open casting call, beating 7,000 other girls for the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince part.

Cave has continued to notch several IMDb credits in the years since, including in Industry, Am I Being Unreasonable? and Black Mirror.

Her longest-running roles have been in the TV shows Buffering, an ITV sitcom created by and starring Iain Stirling, and the Sky sitcom Trollied, about a fictional supermarket’s staff.

Earlier this year, she underwent breast enlargement surgery, which she said her subscribers paid for and something she did in part because her hair ‘can only do so much’.

While Cave does not do explicit content, she said she does routinely get asked to do ‘gross stuff’ on the platform, which she admitted gets to her.

The actress also told the publication she suspects she will only have a limited time on the platform, given that performing explicit content is a line she will not cross.

However, said that she anticipates more artists will sign up to OnlyFans in the future. Kate Nash and Lily Allen have both previously admitted to turning to the platform to subsidise their music careers.
