Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for The Westies Episode7.

The world of The Westies has no clear good guys and bad guys, but instead just a whole lot of people who are trying to survive. While New York City’s violent Irish gang wreaks havoc throughout New York City, FBI Special Agent Birdie Polk (Jessica Frances Dukes) would rather put a stop to their crime operation. She decides to lean on Officer Glenn Keenan (Titus Welliver) and the history he has with Westies leader Eamon Sweeney (J.K. Simmons) to try to further her own agenda, but he gave up on enforcing the law and his own self-respect years ago. If she can remind him of who he was before his morality blurred, maybe they can work together to turn things around.

During this interview with Collider, co-stars Welliver and Dukes discussed why Polk has decided that Keenan is the guy to help her achieve her goals, the complicated relationship Keenan has with his son, why Dukes loves her character, what she’d like to learn about Birdie, and Sweeney’s intense reaction to being humiliated. Welliver also revealed what his last cop character, Harry Bosch, would think of Officer Keenan, and why he’s most excited about when it comes to the upcoming prequel series Bosch: Start of Watch.

FBI Agent Polk Is a Master Manipulator Who Knows Exactly What She’s Doing With Officer Keenan in ‘The Westies’

COLLIDER: Jessica, from the beginning, your character seems to be aware, or at least suspicious, that Keenan is not 100% on the up and up. Is that just intuition on her part? Has she heard things? Do you feel like she fully understands the extent of his corruption?

JESSICA FRANCES DUKES: I think she knows. She specifically sought him out. She needed the right person to infiltrate. This was a time when nobody was talking. Nobody was talking to the Feds. Nobody was talking to the cops. It was unheard of. It was against the rules of the neighborhood. But when you meet somebody so broken, that has so much success in them, there’s that middle line in that character that you can try to reach and grab onto. I think she’s using that middle line as a game. She also has leverage. She knows he has lost so much, and he’s got one more thing that he could lose. And so, she’s a master manipulator. She has created this entire game, and he is a piece in it for her. So, I believe she knows exactly the extent of who he is, and that’s why he’s the perfect person for the job.

I love that she just doesn’t seem fazed by whatever he does. Titus, in Episode 3, Keenan’s son says to him, “The only good cop is a dead cop,” before your character punches him. He’s trying to have this moment with his son that really spirals and ends with violence. How did you feel about that moment?

TITUS WELLIVER: They’re estranged. They’ve been estranged for all these years. And suddenly, he’s thrust back into it, and Birdie is the catalyst for that. When she shows him the photograph of his son with Eddie Breen, who’s Sweeney’s Leftenant, there’s a sudden consciousness. It’s not that he suddenly has this enormous swelling of paternal responsibility, but I think more than anything, we find Keenan as a guy who doesn’t care anymore. He doesn’t care about anything, and least of all, he doesn’t care about him. Suddenly, this magnifying glass is waved over his son. I don’t think that he’s a guy who goes, “Here’s my last chance at redemption.” He just doesn’t want this for his kid.

All that this man understands is the law of the jungle. And so, when he’s disrespected by his son, that is the norm. He puts hands on him because that’s all he knows. There’s a later scene in which he addresses that. We worked very hard on the writing of that scene when he says, “I never should have put hands on you,” and he apologizes. That’s really the glimpse into who Keenan was, at one time. It’s using the relationship with Danny as a catalyst to get that out there because this isn’t a guy who would ever talk about himself. Even when Polk is laying it all out with his dossier in front of him, he’s not responsive to it. It’s almost like he doesn’t even acknowledge it. It’s brutal, but I think it’s very, very real. I saw plenty of kids get tuned up by their parents as a kid. We’re in a very different time period now.

Jessica, I think it would be interesting to see and learn more about what it’s been like for your character in this world, as a woman, and as a Black woman. What do you think it was like for her, coming up and coming into the position that she’s in, in the series?

DUKES: I studied a fabulous woman named Sylvia Mathis, and she was the first Black woman to graduate from the Academy in ‘76. She was a lawyer. She was top of her class. She was smart. And they were like, “You know what? I think you’d be great at the Bureau.” She came in as the first Black woman to graduate successfully and was put right into a task force. And so, playing Birdie allows me to imagine, if she had the opportunities that others had in that time, who would she be and how would she run that room? I get a chance to play that in this, as well as pay homage to every single law enforcement that helped take these families down and bring some sort of order to New York. It’s fun to play power in this role.

If you could have an episode that follows her, would you want it to be a flashback of what she’s experienced in her past, or would you want to know what she does on a day off?

DUKES: I want to know what’s in it for her and I want to know why New York is hers, as well. We see these territories and we see these families that are holding onto something important. I believe she’s protecting her home, just as much as they are, and I would love to see why.

For Titus Welliver, It’s Important That His ‘The Westies’ Character Stays True to the World He’s Living In

“As soon as it goes to violence, he’s immediately activated.”

Titus, what was your reaction to finding out that Keenan was going to have a scene where he gets beaten up by Sweeney’s guys and pissed on by one of them? That was quite an interesting moment that I wasn’t expecting because I just figured they would just leave him there. I didn’t know it would continue that much further. What was your reaction to that moment?

WELLIVER: That’s called great artistic license. That’s not something that was a hallmark of the Westies, but that ultimate act of disrespect and disgrace is really emblematic of that character. Ultimately, that was a big mistake. In that moment, that’s when you see Keenan really spring into action. When he realizes that he’s in trouble, he’s going to take as many of those guys with him as he can. He has the skill set of being a former Force Recon Marine, so he’s very adept at close-quarter hand-to-hand combat and does the best he can, but he’s completely overwhelmed. He takes a savage beating, and then he’s pissed on at the end of that, whether he’s even aware of that.

I’d played that whole idea that he was more or less out of it by the time that guy pisses on him, but he’s heard it or whatever. When it all comes full circle is when that’s unleashed. [Birdie] has that great line when she says, “You took him into custody, but now he’s in a coma.” And Keenan says, “He resisted arrest.” It speaks volumes about what that’s all about. It’s neighborhood stuff, which is great because that’s very true to the nature of who these characters are. It’s betrayal. And then, here’s the comeuppance. It’s like, “I’m not afraid of you.” Keenan doesn’t even blink. As soon as it goes to violence, he’s immediately activated.

What do you think Harry Bosch would think of Glenn Keenan?

WELLIVER: He’s the kind of guy Harry would lock up. He’s a disgrace to the badge. I think that even though they would share the history of both having served well, Bosch would just say, “You’re bent, man. You’re beyond redemption. You’re just a criminal now.” And Harry would lock him up. Harry would not be interested in the psychological or the trauma of his past. He’d be like, “No, this is who you are, and this is where I find you now. I’m not interested in what a great cop you were. You’re not a good guy. You need to be taken off the street.”

Titus Welliver Is Excited To See What Cameron Monaghan Does With the Prequel Series ‘Bosch: Start of Watch’

“[Harry Bosch is] just such a rich, profound character that it’s great. I’m thrilled for him.”

When it comes to the upcoming prequel series, Bosch: Start of Watch, what are you most curious about? How do you feel about a character that you are so deeply connected to being played by someone else? Is that a surreal experience?

WELLIVER: I’m excited because we created the whole Bosch universe, ultimately. They’ve spun Ballard off, and that’s its own thing. It’s an extension of Bosch, but it’s not. Start of Watch is the brainchild of one of our writers, Tom Bernardo, and Cameron Monaghan is a staggeringly talented actor. I’m thrilled for him. I’m excited to see what he does. It’s a tremendous responsibility. I had the responsibility of already taking a character from these globally successful books of Michael Connelly’s, to breathe life into him. And then, you add that onto it and Cameron’s got like the double dose of that. But I know that he’s doing a phenomenal job. All reports back are that he’s great.

This is the OGs of Bosch-land, with Tom Bernardo, and you have Stephen Kay directing, Sharat Raju directing, and Jamie Boscardin and Henrik Bastin producing. It’s a perfect storm. His backstory is very, very interesting. In the way that you see re-releases of shows, this will create a whole different kind of thing where people will go, “Let me watch this chronologically.” Or they’ll start with Start of Watch and then hear about it and go into Bosch. I’m just thrilled because I think the character of Harry Bosch is a gift. He was a gift to me, and he’s a gift to Cameron. The responsibility is there, but it’s just such a rich, profound character that it’s great. I’m thrilled for him.

Sid Wilson is seemingly cosigning his exit from Slipknot after the iconic rock band confirmed he is no longer a member.

Eagle-eyed fans noticed that Wilson, the DJ and keyboard player for the band for nearly 30 years, altered his Instagram bio to note he is no longer associated with the band, changing the description from “@slipknot gang since 1997” to “@slipknot 1997-2026.”

The band confirmed it is no longer affiliated with Wilson, 49, on Friday, August 14, sharing a since-deleted statement on their official website that was also shared by rock music festival Knotfest’s official Instagram account.

“Effective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson,” the statement read. “We wish him the best in his future endeavours.”

The Knotfest account also shared the following caption, confirming the band shared the same statement to its website: “Slipknot have parted ways with Sid Wilson. The announcement could briefly be found on the band’s website.” (Media outlet Stereogum shared a screenshot of the band’s website announcement, confirming its existence before it was subsequently deleted.)

TMZ was the first to report that Wilson had been kicked out of the band weeks before Slipknot confirmed his exit. Wilson has yet to publicly address his status with the band beyond his Instagram bio update. Us has reached out to Wilson multiple times for comment but has not heard back.

Wilson did, however, reportedly refer to himself as a member of Slipknot just days prior to the band’s announcement.

“What’s up ya’ll, Sid, DJ Starscream/#0, from the world famous Slipknot, how ya’ll doing tonight,” Wilson told the crowd at the World Scratch Invitational last week, per footage shared via social media.

News of the DJ’s exit from the band also comes in the wake of his broken engagement to Kelly Osbourne, daughter of the late legendary rockstar Ozzy Osbourne.

“Strange how the loudest defense of the guilty is rarely innocence … It’s distraction,” Kelly, 41, wrote via her Instagram Stories at the time. “When the mask slips, they don’t face the mirror they throw it at someone else.”

She added, “I also heard that when you break a mirror you get 7 years bad luck! Or is that just karma? This is why I always take accountability. As they say some are sicker than others.”

Us reached out to Wilson regarding his ex’s public claims at the time but did not hear back.

2026 has been a relatively quiet year for Mark Wahlberg, who starred in one of the biggest movies of the year on Prime Video, Balls Up. Paul Walter Hauser (The Fantastic Four: First Steps) stars alongside Wahlberg in the sports-forward action comedy, which began streaming around the world on April 15. 2025 was busier for Wahlberg, who starred in three separate action features throughout the course of the year with Flight Risk, Play Dirty, and The Family Plan 2. Flight Risk even saw Wahlberg reunite with his long-time friend and collaborative partner Mel Gibson. Wahlberg is set to return to the big screen soon with his next true crime thriller, By Any Means (co-starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), which opens in theaters on September 4. Paramount just released the final trailer for the film earlier this week before it launches in theaters.

Wahlberg has starred in plenty of famous action movies and crime thrillers over the years, and while there’s certainly a debate to be had about which of his movies is most famous, there’s one that would certainly get plenty of votes if you conducted a poll. The film in question is Shooter, the 2007 political thriller co-starring Michael Peña and Danny Glover, and directed by Antoine Fuqua. The film remains one of the most surprising box office flops of all time — it grossed only $95 million against a $61 million budget, but it’s become a fan-favorite and cult classic in the near-20 years since its release. 19 years later, there’s no shortage of ways to watch Shooter for those who are itching to do a rewatch: The film is streaming on Paramount Plus, on Starz, and for free on Pluto TV.

What Is ‘Shooter’ About?

The official synopsis for Shooter, which holds scores of 47% from critics and 80% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, reads as follows: “An expert marksman lured out of self-imposed exile is set up to take the fall for a presidential assassination attempt. Now on the run, he teams up with a rookie FBI agent to uncover the powerful men behind the conspiracy and clear his name. Mark Wahlberg stars alongside Michael Peña and Danny Glover in this taut, high-stakes action-thriller.” The film is perfect for Reacher fans, as there are some obvious similarities of former military operatives caught in government conspiracies, but when Bob Lee Swagger finds himself backed into a corner, he goes full John Wick.

It’s very challenging for great shows to never have any down points, as true perfection is quite rare. Even within shows that are generally consistent over the course of their seasons, there are often a few weaker moments that detract from the overall experience. Even a show like Breaking Bad had a few fumbles early on in its first season, in which the WGA strike put some parameters on what the conclusion would look like. Similarly, The Wire had a few episodes that strained credibility in Season 5, in which the serial killer storyline felt completely out-of-place within a series that had otherwise been entirely plausible up until that point in time.

Truly perfect shows that don’t have any missed moments occur when there is a concise idea that is retained throughout the entire run, and the keys to the narrative aren’t passed on between showrunners who have different ideas on what should happen next. There is a significant amount of imagination that is required to do so much planning in advance, but it has benefits when the show has a consistent identity throughout its entire run. These great thriller series prove that perfection is possible, with engaging storylines that stay riveting throughout the shows’ runs.

‘Mr. Robot’ (2015–2019)

Mr. Robot is a postmodern masterpiece that suggested that the “auteur theory” that is often applied to films can also be used to describe television when there is a creator who has complete and total creative control over how a series looks, feels, and expands. Sam Esmail is a filmmaker who took the ideas he had for a script, which itself was inspired by many ‘90s classics, and expanded it into a four-season epic that explored the dark heart of American society, tracking the way that the nation changed after it diverges from reality’s timeline beginning in 2015.

Esmail wrote every episode and directed all of the final three seasons, ensuring that Mr. Robot had a consistent style that did not fluctuate between episodes. While the feeling of one long story being serialized can sometimes be taxing if it feels like it is filling that is taking up too much time, Esmail was willing to take chances on form-breaking episodes that ensured that audiences were always on their toes.

‘Mindhunter’ (2017–2019)

Mindhunter was a short-lived masterpiece because David Fincher’s brilliant crime show was sadly canceled after only two seasons. Fincher was the perfect showrunner for this specific story because he helped to define what the modern serial killer genre looked like with his films Se7en, Zodiac, and the English-language remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and used much of the same cinematic language in order to take a unique look at how the term was first coined.

Mindhunter is inspired by the autobiography of FBI agent John Douglas, who was the real-life inspired for the character Will Graham in Thomas Harris’ novels; Douglas was depicted in the show as the fictional character Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff), an obsessive former FBI field agent who decides to develop a critical study on criminal behavior in the aftermath of several shocking acts of violence that scandalized America in the 1970s. It’s a must-watch for those interested in this era, especially because of how Mindhunter examines infamous serial killers like Charles Manson and the Son of Sam.

‘Hannibal’ (2013–2015)

Hannibal was an incredibly ambitious show for Bryan Fuller to make because there had already been several successful adaptations of the novel series. Michael Mann’s classic thriller Manhunter was a box office disappointment that became a cult hit, and The Silence of the Lambs became the first horror film to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards, and one of only three to take home the “Big Five” prizes; while 2001’s Hannibal and Red Dragon weren’t as critically beloved, they were nonetheless financial hits. Thankfully, Fuller took a creative new spin on the material that explored the partnership between Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne) when they worked with Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) to hunt down serial killers.

The foreshadowing of Lecter’s true nature is brilliantly laid out, resulting in a finale that ranks among the best of the 21st century. What’s most shocking about Hannibal is that it played out on a network like NBC, and was able to introduce transgressive, experimental filmmaking techniques to an audience that might not have sought them out otherwise.

‘Barry’ (2018–2023)

Barry is a totally unique crime thriller because it defies all expectations of genre, which can be credited to the brilliance of Bill Hader, who starred in, created, wrote, and directed many episodes of the series. Barry begins as a fish-out-of-water dark comedy about a hitman who decides to become an actor in order to unlock his true self, but it becomes increasingly twisted and confusing as his two worlds combine. While there is humor throughout the entire show, as Hader does not forget his roots as a Saturday Night Live cast member, Barry finds an odd parallel between the narcissistic world of Hollywood and the dreary reality of a psychopathic hitman.

Barry is fascinating as an entry within the modern canon of anti-hero stories because it constantly provides sympathy for its titular character, whilst undercutting his redeeming features by showing what a demented and dangerous person he actually is. Hader has always had a knack for being likable and doing awkward humor, so it is impressive that he can transform into a frequently terrifying character who has more in common with Robert De Niro’s Travis Bickle from Taxi Driver than he does with any of the roles that he used to play on Saturday Night Live. Hader also helped to create opportunities for many of the beloved actors that he admired, with Henry Winkler getting the single best role of his career since his breakout in Happy Days.

‘Better Call Saul’ (2015–2022)

Better Call Saul is the single greatest spinoff in television history, and it is arguably even more consistent and well-written than Breaking Bad, which is a classic in its own right. Better Call Saul had the benefit of being made after Breaking Bad had already been concluded, which allowed it to serve as both a prequel and sequel. A majority of the series takes place before Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) becomes the slimy lawyer who aligns himself with Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), but it also contains flashes to the future that examine the events after Breaking Bad.

Better Call Saul was able to still create tension, despite the fact that the viewers know what happens to Jimmy and other characters like Mike (Jonathan Banks) and Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito), which is all due to the brilliance of Rhea Seehorn in the role of Kim Wexler. Kim is one of the best characters that Vince Gilligan has ever created, making it no surprise that he has continued his professional apprenticeship with Seehorn into other projects. The complex and destructive relationship between Jimmy and Kim is what fuels the tension within Better Call Saul, but the entire ensemble is filled with actors who deserve more credit. No one is more underrated than Patrick Fabian in the role of Howard Hamlin; although initially he is framed as being a pretentious bully who holds a grudge against Jimmy, it is slowly revealed that Howard was right all along.

‘Andor’ (2022-2025)

Andor is the greatest piece of storytelling within the Star Wars universe since the original trilogy, and it achieves this level of excellence because it rejects the fan service that Dave Filoni’s tenure at Lucasfilm had come to represent. Instead of telling yet another story about the Jedi Order, the Skywalker family, and the Force, Andor is a gritty origin tale that explores the formation of the Rebel Alliance as it grows to confront the Galactic Empire, which had used brutalized fascist policies to hold the universe with an iron fist. While Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) was introduced as a character in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Andor shows how he was radicalized into becoming a Rebel spy by the resistance leader Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgard), who helps him work secretly with other agents as he communicates with Senator Mon Mothma (Geniiveve O’Reilly).

The brilliance in Andor is a result of its structure, as the show consists of three-episode arcs that tell complete stories; each season contains four arcs, meaning that the entire 24-episode series essentially feels like eight additional Star Wars films. Unlike other Star Wars shows on Disney+, which were cluttered with terrible CGI deepfakes and an overuse of “The Volume” to create digital backgrounds, Andor used real sets, locations, massive groups of extras, and created moments of spectacle that rank among the greatest in the Star Wars universe. Andor offers the perfect bridge between the original and prequel trilogies that shows just how terrifying it was to live within the Imperial Age, but it is also a compelling, standalone spy thriller that is just as effective for someone who is not already entrenched in the Star Wars universe.

What makes a thriller film truly exciting? As the history of filmmaking has proven time and again, some of the best thrillers ever made in cinema rely on high suspense, stakes, and a constant sense of anticipation to get the audience on the edge of their seats. ‘Seven’ (1995)

David Fincher’s second film and first crime feature, Seven is a noir thriller that became definitive of the genre and is now widely considered a crime classic. The film follows Brad Pitt’s hot-headed Detective David Mills and Morgan Freeman’s embittered veteran cop, Lieutenant William Somerset, as they navigate conflicting personalities and perspectives to investigate serial murders committed based on the seven cardinal sins. Gwyneth Paltrow, Richard Roundtree, John C. McGinley, R. Lee Ermey, and Kevin Spacey also star in key roles.

With a story centered on a methodical, intellectual killer, Seven reinvented the serial killer trope, setting new trends for the genre that are still often seen in today’s modern crime thrillers. The desperate hunt for a dangerous criminal soon becomes a gripping psychological and philosophical puzzle that keeps the audience guessing until the very end. Underlined by its relentless tension and grungy ’90s aesthetics, Seven thrills even after the credits roll, leaving the viewer with one of the most shocking final moments in Hollywood history.

‘Zodiac’ (2007)

David Fincher’s gripping cinematic interpretation of the hunt for the Zodiac Killer, Zodiac is adapted from cartoonist/author Robert Graysmith’s books Zodiac and Zodiac Unmasked, which document the unsolved murders by the titular killer, who terrorized the San Francisco Bay Area through the late 1960s and early 1970s. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Robert, the film follows the professional cartoonist as he closely follows the coded letters, ciphers, and cryptic clues sent by the killer, becoming deeply obsessed with hunting him down using his puzzle-solving abilities. Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr., John Carroll Lynch, and Tom Verica also star in the movie, playing other real people of the time.

Praised for its direction, writing, cinematography, soundtrack, and accuracy to real-life investigations, Zodiac is a major cult hit that has since evolved into a masterpiece of 21st-century crime cinema. A masterclass in suspense, the film is noted for the way it slowly and meticulously builds tension through Robert’s obsession and the killer’s mind games, challenging the viewer to guess what lies one step ahead. Zodiac has since remained one of Fincher’s most iconic films and is often considered his magnum opus.

‘Run Lola Run’ (1998)

DC Studios made one of its biggest animation announcements yet during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, officially revealing three brand-new animated series: Absolute Batman, Joker: Laugh Riot, and Krypto. The projects were unveiled by DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran alongside Warner Bros. Animation, signaling a major expansion of the studio’s animated slate.

Each series offers a completely different take on the DC Universe, ranging from mature storytelling to family-friendly adventures.

Absolute Batman Brings DC’s Best-Selling Comic to Animation

Perhaps the biggest reveal of the showcase was Absolute Batman, an adult animated adaptation of the hit comic series from Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta.

Rather than following the traditional version of Bruce Wayne, Absolute Batman reimagines the Dark Knight as a working-class hero with none of the wealth, mansion, or high-tech advantages fans have come to expect. The series will adapt the darker, grounded “Absolute Universe” that quickly became one of DC’s biggest publishing successes.

Scott Snyder will serve as executive producer and showrunner, while Nick Dragotta joins the project as a producer. According to DC, the series asks a simple question:

“When you take away the manor, the money, and the advantages… what’s left is Batman.”

Joker: Laugh Riot Gives the Clown Prince His Own Anime

One of the biggest surprises was Joker: Laugh Riot, an adult anime series being produced with Japanese animation studio SOLA Entertainment.

The premise completely flips the traditional Batman/Joker dynamic.

After Batman is murdered, the Joker launches a violent campaign across Gotham’s criminal underworld to hunt down whoever killed his greatest enemy. As his investigation unfolds, Joker begins drifting closer to becoming a vigilante than a villain, forcing him to question who he really is without Batman.

The series will be directed by Yasuhiro Aoki with Jim Krieg serving as executive producer.

It’s one of the boldest concepts DC has announced in years and marks the company’s newest push into anime storytelling.

Krypto Targets a Younger Audience

Balancing the darker projects is Krypto, a family-oriented animated series centered on Superman’s loyal canine companion.

Created by C.H. Greenblatt (Chowder), the show follows Krypto as he accidentally becomes involved with a group of aspiring criminals. Instead of helping them commit crimes, Superman’s best friend gradually teaches the gang how to become better people.

The series appears aimed squarely at younger viewers while maintaining the humor that Greenblatt is known for.

Kristen Bell brought a little Arendelle magic to the baseball diamond during a surprise appearance at a Savannah Bananas game in Denver. The 46-year-old actress emerged from the stands at Coors Field on Saturday before performing an unexpected musical mashup with Broadway star and Banana Ball entertainer Derek Klena. Bell’s appearance came just one day after she reunited with Idina Menzel and Josh Gad at D23 to unveil the first footage and new music from “Frozen 3,” making the weekend a major one for fans of Disney’s animated franchise.

Bell surprised the crowd during the Bananas’ game against the Indianapolis Clowns on August 15. A video shared through the team’s official Instagram account showed the “Nobody Wants This” star making her way from the stands onto the field as the audience erupted into cheers. Broadway star Derek Klena met Bell on the field and continued the performance with “Dancing Through Life” from “Wicked.” Klena joined the Savannah Bananas organization in December and has been traveling with the entertainment baseball team during its world tour. The 34-year-old performer is known for his work on Broadway, including roles in “Jagged Little Pill,” “Anastasia,” and “Moulin Rouge! The Musical.”

Bell and Klena danced together before transitioning into “(I’ve Had) the Time of My Life,” the song memorably featured in the 1987 movie “Dirty Dancing.” The pair then recreated one of the film’s most recognizable moments by performing the famous overhead lift associated with Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey.

Players often perform choreographed dances, interact directly with spectators, and stage elaborate entrances between plays. The August 15 game was one of two matchups between the Bananas and Indianapolis Clowns at Coors Field during the team’s Banana Ball World Tour, but fans couldn’t help but notice that the appearance also had timely promotional value. Fans inside the Honda Center were shown early footage from “Frozen 3,” which takes place around Anna and Kristoff’s wedding. The sequence reportedly showed the newlyweds encountering Elsa on a dock as she examined a mysterious object. The stone appeared to open a portal leading into an unfamiliar frozen dimension. Menzel described the destination as “a frozen land more wild and dangerous than anything Elsa has ever created.”

Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven then traveled through the portal, where they encountered a mysterious woman whose face was concealed. The unidentified character appeared to possess powers capable of challenging Elsa, establishing a new threat for the sisters to confront beyond Arendelle.

Disney’s official D23 recap described the figure as a villainess whose abilities rival Elsa’s, although the studio has not revealed who will provide her voice. The footage suggests that Anna’s wedding celebration will quickly give way to another dangerous journey involving unanswered questions about Elsa’s powers.

‘Frozen 3’ Arrives In Theaters In 2027

The original “Frozen” opened in 2013 and followed Anna’s journey to find Elsa after the newly crowned queen accidentally trapped Arendelle in an eternal winter. “Frozen 2,” released six years later, took Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Sven and Olaf into an enchanted forest as they uncovered the history behind Elsa’s abilities and their family’s past.

The first two films have earned approximately $2.76 billion combined at the worldwide box office and received two Academy Awards. Bell, Menzel, Gad, and Jonathan Groff are all returning for the next chapter.

“Frozen 3” is scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 24, 2027.

Meghan Trainor and Daryl Sabara are settling into life as parents of three.

“Lake Tahoe trip part 1 🌲,” Trainor, 32, captioned a carousel of Instagram photos on Sunday, August 16, sharing moments from the family’s recent California camping trip.

Trainor and Sabara, 34, are the proud parents of sons Riley, 5, and Barry, 3, as well as daughter Mikey, who was born in January. In the adorable new photos, Trainor offered a glimpse of her three kids’ bright red hair that further demonstrates how much they resemble the Spy Kids actor.

The pop star, however, is well aware that her offspring are the spitting image of Sabara.

According to Trainor, her husband was “actually offended” by Mikey resembling the “All About That Bass” singer.

“He’s actually so used to [hearing] like, ‘Oh my God, the kids like just like you’ that for once he’s like, ‘No, she doesn’t,’” Trainor quipped. “I’m like, ‘Oh, you upset, bro? Imagine getting cut open and people going, ‘Did you even do anything?’ You’re not allowed to be upset [about] this one.”

Consistency is a quality that all crime shows strive for, as retaining a level of quality throughout is important in order to retain the enthusiasm of an audience. With that being said, it is nearly impossible for shows to never have a bad episode, as some all-time masterpieces have entire seasons that aren’t quite as good as the rest. When looking at the best crime shows of all time, series like Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, and The Wire are often brought up. Each of these shows are masterpieces in their entireties, but they are not above criticism; Breaking Bad struggled in the second half of its first season due to the constraints of the WGA strike, the first half of the final season of The Sopranos wasn’t as good as the second half, The Wire featured a storyline in its Season 5 about a serial killer that ruined its realism, and Twin Peaks so infamously went off the rails in Season 2 that David Lynch had to return to set things right with the finale, “Beyond Life and Death.”

Perfection within television can often be found in miniseries, which have become the preferred format for many networks. It’s more often that A-list stars and auteur filmmakers will want to sign on to a limited event show so they do not have to commit to making several seasons, as the productions can feel closer to that of a film. Even then, some miniseries are extended and have diminishing returns; the second season of Big Little Lies was a mixed bag that wasn’t as strong as the first, and True Detective has been all over the place in terms of quality after its brilliant first season was expanded into three more. Generally, the crime shows that don’t have any bad episodes are self-contained, personal, and offer something original that makes them stand out within the streaming landscape.

‘Mare of Easttown’ (2021)

Mare of Easttown is a brilliant crime show that took an unusual approach to the murder mystery genre because it explored how an entire community heals after the tragic murder of a teenage girl (Cailee Spaeny), whose death leads a local police detective (Kate Winslet) to investigate anyone who could have been involved in the event. Although Mare of Easttown has a twisty mystery storyline that includes more than a few surprises and several shocking deaths, it’s also a deeply humane drama that speaks to Brad Ingleby’s talents as a writer.

Mare of Easttown is beautifully wrapped up, as the show has no filler and does not necessitate a second season. However, it does serve as one chapter within a larger universe, as Ingleby revealed that Mare of Easttown is within the same continuity as his acclaimed crime thriller Task, which is returning for its second season later this year.

‘Escape at Dannemora’ (2018)

Escape at Dannemora was a major career pivot for Ben Stiller, who had previously been best known as a comedic actor, even though he had directed several of the films that he also starred in. Although 1994’s Reality Bites was the last time in which Stiller took on slightly more serious material as a director, he had something to prove after 2016’s Zoolander 2 was a complete failure that suggested he no longer had the juice of his early career. Escape at Dannemora marked the first time that Stiller directed something that he did not also star in, as the true crime thriller starred Benicio del Toro and Paul Dano as inmates at a high-security prison who plot their escape with the help of a service worker (Patricia Arquette), whom they are both in a physical relationship with.

Escape at Dannemora is a throwback to classic prison break thrillers from the ‘60s and ‘70s, but it’s also grounded in a wild true story and features eccentric performances from three of the most underrated living actors.

‘Under the Banner of Heaven’ (2022)

Under the Banner of Heaven is a fascinating crime thriller that doubles as a powerful drama TV show because it explores important ideas about faith, family, and forgiveness by tackling a controversial true story that has continued to spark controversy. Andrew Garfield gives one of the greatest performances of his entire career as a police detective and loyal member of the Mormon church who is called in to investigate a series of murders linked to a radical sect of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, which suggests the involvement of polygamy and child marriages.

Under the Banner of Heaven examines complex questions about what faith can be, as anyone who swears themselves loyal to a religion must be able to acknowledge that their same ideals could be corrupted and used for ill on the part of someone with malicious intentions.

‘The Night Of’ (2016)

The Night Of is another masterpiece from Steven Zaillian, who deserves more credit for being one of the greatest crime writers of all-time; although Zaillian got his start writing classics like Schindler’s List and The Irishman, he also proved his merit as a showrunner with Netflix’s Ripley. However, Zaillian first ventured into the television landscape with The Night Of, a powerful legal thriller about a Muslim cab driver (Riz Ahmed) in New York City who is falsely accused of murder, but must remain in prison as a case is waged about his guilt. He is forced to adapt to the brutalistic culture within the prison, which looks down upon him because of his culture and supposed crimes, all while an idealistic public defender (John Turturro) tries to argue on his behalf and clear his name.

The Night Of is a scathing indictment of the modern justice system that features career-best performances from Ahmed and Turturro, as well as a terrific supporting role for the late great Michael K. Williams as another inmate. The show’s analysis of police brutality and Islamophobia has sadly grown even more relevant ever since, given that The Night Of debuted before the end of a controversial election.

‘The Outsider’ (2020)

The Outsider is one of the best and most underrated Stephen King adaptations of all time, and it’s a novelty because it is based on the author’s more recent books. Most of the most well-known King adaptations were inspired by the work that he did in the ‘70s and ‘80s, but The Outsider was a modern crime drama that was perfectly executed into a thrilling miniseries that offered the perfect blend of detective fiction and supernatural paranoia. Rarely has a show been able to jump between genres in such a concise and effective way; The Outsider initially appears to be a straightforward murder mystery about a death that wrecks an entire small community, but it transforms into a deeper, spiritual journey into human grief and the pursuit of an everlasting source of evil.

The Outsider is able to be both gritty and stylized, and does a great job of being a showcase for its actors. Ben Mendelsohn gives one of the most humane and accessible performances of his career, serving as a reminder that he doesn’t always have to be cast as villains (even if he is quite good at playing them). It also featured a strong turn from Jason Bateman, who also directed a few episodes, showing once again that he is just as talented behind the camera as he is in front of it.

‘Too Old to Die Young’ (2019)

Too Old to Die Young is among the strangest and most criminally underseen shows of the modern era, as most audiences weren’t sure what to make of it when it dropped on Prime Video in 2019 without much fanfare. Although writer/director Nicolas Winding Refn had made a cult classic with Drive, a majority of the other films he made have been much more polarizing, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that Too Old to Die Young is just as divisive. The series is a Los Angeles noir about a lone police officer (Miles Teller) who is drawn into a vast and insidious criminal underworld, where he becomes involved in a nearly mythic battle between good and evil.

Too Old to Die Young can’t be described in the way that most television shows could, given that Refn essentially treated the project as a cinematic experiment, and even screened some episodes at the Cannes Film Festival in the same year. Although at times it feels like he is trying to be as disorienting and disgusting as possible in order to provoke a reaction out of the audience, there are also moments of pure beauty and wonder that emphasize the spirituality within all of his work; it’s also a feast for cinephiles because of all the references to classic films that Refn sprinkles in. Too Old to Die Young won’t be for everyone, as those who don’t enjoy arthouse cinema should stay far away, but it’s a completely unique experiment where it could never be said that Refn didn’t fulfill the exact vision that he had in his mind.

Kanye West and Bianca Censori are reportedly at odds as the rapper is looking to have more kids with the Aussie-born model, who is said to be less than enthusiastic about the idea. 

Sources claim the music mogul is pressuring Censori to build a family with him, but she is reluctant to fulfill his demands and has been putting it off, allegedly owing to the rapper’s volatile and unpredictable nature.  

However, Kanye West remains impatient and insistent on getting his way; he is supposedly rigid in his stance and unreceptive to Bianca Censori’s reasons for her refusal to procreate with the rapper.

West and Censori had a private, confidential wedding ceremony in December 2022, just weeks after the rapper’s divorce from his ex-wife Kim Kardashian.

The pair have been married for almost four years now, and the union has been publicly scrutinized since its onset.

West is now said to be desperate for a child with his wife. In a recent Globe Magazine report, an unnamed source describes his dramatic mindset around fatherhood.

“It’s no secret that Kanye is desperate for another child,” the source reports. “He seems to think it’s practically his God-given duty to keep procreating so he can populate the world with more of his genius.”  

The “Heartless” rapper, who is seemingly insistent on having more kids with Censori, already has four children with Kim Kardashian: North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm.  

This is not enough for the rapper, who is allegedly impatient with Censori as she has become “reluctant” to have a baby with him.

The alleged pushy behavior of the rapper is not having much of an effect on Censori, as she remains reluctant and is reportedly putting off having West’s baby.  

A Globe source claims that the Australian architect is finding ways to avoid having a baby with the “Unpredictable Rapper” anytime soon.  

“He’s been after Bianca to have his baby since they got together four years ago,” the source says. “So far, she’s managed to keep finding ways to put it off, but Kanye is getting impatient, and it’s becoming a major issue.”  

In a Vanity Fair interview published earlier this year, the 31-year-old admitted there have been times she felt like her relationship with the father of four couldn’t continue.

The source continues to note that Censori wouldn’t want to tie herself to West forever with a child if the relationship ultimately fails.

West has previously been hit with claims of pushy behavior over his demands to have a baby and start a family with Censori.  

In a report published by Heatworld, the father of four allegedly snapped after his wife refused to commit to having a baby with him, with sources claiming he threatened to walk and find another woman to have his child if she doesn’t give in.  

“Kanye’s in a very volatile headspace right now, and whenever he’s in a bad mood it’s Bianca that has to deal with the brunt of it,” the source said.

They added, “He’s started back in on this baby argument; he keeps harping away at it and saying they need to do it ASAP if she’s going to prove she really loves him.”

According to the report, West believes Censori is ready to be a mom as she’s already “the perfect stepmom” to his four kids.  

West is fine using other methods to have a baby if she remains unreceptive to traditional conception.

The source explained, “He would love to get her pregnant, but he’s now saying that if she won’t agree to that, because she doesn’t want to wreck her body, he’s fine doing IVF and using a surrogate.”  

The “Jesus Walks” rapper is reportedly refusing to take no for an answer from Censori, and has been demanding to start a family with her from the very early days of their relationship.
