Stars who knew and worked with Hayden Panettiere have been paying tribute following the news of her sudden death at the age of 36.

Oscar winner Viola Davis was among the first to pay her respects in the early hours of Monday morning, having worked with Hayden on the courtroom drama Custody.

“What an amazing talent you were,” Viola wrote on Instagram, remembering her late co-star as “so gifted”.

“Julius [her husband and Custody co-star] and I loved working with you… an old, wise soul with such a deep heart.”

Viola continued: “I wish the world had more time with you because I had a burning curiosity about who you were becoming. I saw this beautiful Phoenix rising from the ashes.

“Your tests became your testimony, and your testimony became your legacy. You will be remembered. Rest well, Hayden. Sending healing prayers to your family, your daughter, and all who loved you. May they always speak your name.”

Since then, a number of Hayden’s co-stars from the Scream franchise have also been sharing tributes.

“Rest in peace, sweet Hayden,” Melissa Barrera, who worked with the late performer in 2023’s Scream VI, wrote on her Instagram story while franchise staple David Arquette said simply: “I love you Hayden.”

Jay Shetty, who had recently interviewed Hayden about her 2026 memoir on his podcast, wrote that he was “truly heartbroken by this news”.

“I can’t believe it. Our friendship had just begun and I was so moved by the conversation we shared earlier this year,” he lamented.

Rosie O’Donnell also said she was “heartbroken” by the news, while Bethany Joy-Lenz, who worked with Hayden on the daytime soap Guiding Light, said she felt “crushed”.

Announcing the news of Hayden’s death on Sunday night, her father Skip Panettiere remembered her as “an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her and to the millions who watched her onscreen”.

The Golden Globe nominee was best known for her leading performances in the TV series Heroes and Nashville, as well as her work as Kirby Reed in the Scream franchise.

Police officers in Greenville, South Carolina said on Monday: “The case is under investigation by the Greenville Police Department in conjunction with the Greenville County Coroner’s Office. The preliminary investigation has not indicated any signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances.”

Everything is expensive: the energy price cap has risen (again), water companies have been given the go ahead to increase bills and now, it seems our food shop is set to go up even more, too.

This year’s summer of intense heat and very little rainfall has resulted in much of England and all of Wales being declared in drought.

Rivers and reservoirs are running very low, farmers are having to harvest crops early, wildfire risk is extremely high and millions of people are living under restrictions on water use.

To try and understand how exactly the average person’s food shop might change in the coming months, we spoke to the UK Food Council about which foods are most likely to see price rises.

The Food Council’s spokesperson said: “The foods most exposed to price rises are field vegetables and roots – carrots, onions and potatoes have borne the brunt of dry, shrinking soils.”

As a result, shoppers are more likely to notice smaller produce and modest price rises.

The Food and Drink Federation noted that “heat and drought have accelerated crop development, bringing harvests forward but reducing both yields and grain quality”.

On top of that, reduced grass growth has meant farmers are having to increasingly rely on supplementary feed for livestock.

Greater demand for animal feed, in addition to reduced yields, are pushing up the cost of animal feed.

This can then feed through into meat and egg prices over the coming months, noted the Food Council.

Dairy is also under pressure as a result of the aforementioned issues. Not only that, but “heat-stressed cows produced less milk over the summer”, said the Food Council’s spokesperson.

Shoppers can expect to see some food inflation in the next few months, but it’s unlikely there’ll be empty shelves or major shortages.

Dr Liliana Danila, chief economist at The Food and Drink Federation (FDF), said that while the UK’s food and drink manufacturers “work hard to absorb costs”, they are “already grappling with rising costs as a result of war in Ukraine and in Iran”.

She expects these pressures will be reflected in retail prices into next year.

As for whether empty shelves could become the norm, the Food Council’s spokesperson noted it’s not expected right now. “The more likely outcome is ‘shrinkflation’ – produce that’s smaller and a bit pricier rather than absent, with retailers filling gaps from alternative suppliers,” they explained.

“That risk rises later in the year if UK shortfalls coincide with poor harvests among the European growers we import from.”

“With farmers facing one of the worst harvests on record and up to £390 million in lost revenue, the real story isn’t any single bad summer – it’s that this is England’s third drought in five years,” ended the Food Council’s spokesperson.

“Resilience can no longer be treated as optional.”

A spokesperson for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), told the iPaper last week: “The UK has a highly resilient food system, drawing on both strong domestic production and international trade and we do not expect the recent dry weather to have any impact on national food security.

“Alongside this, we are building stronger, more resilient food supply chains to protect Britain from potential disruptions along with the new Farming Roadmap and our work with the National Drought Group and Farming and Food Partnership Board.”

Mrs Brown’s Boys creator Brendan O’Carroll has announced he will be unable to go ahead with this year’s festive specials on medical grounds.

Traditionally, the divisive comedy airs over both Christmas and New Year, but on Monday morning, Brendan shared that this would not be the case in 2026.

“It is with sincere regret I must announce that due to an unexpected medical issue I will have to cancel the recordings of the 2026 Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas and New Year’s Specials,” he wrote on Facebook.

“Following a CT Scan, it was found that I had two fractures in my mandible (jaw) which require immediate surgery and a few months recovery.”

He continued: “I am talking with the BBC about getting Mrs Brown’s Boys back on the screen in 2027.

“I will sadly have to postpone both the 3 Arena Dublin and Gleneagle Arena shows Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Panto, which were scheduled for later this year. We are currently working with MCD to try to reschedule these shows for 2027. I would like to thank MCD and the BBC for their support and understanding at this difficult time.”

He added: “This decision has not been taken lightly and has been made on medical advice from my consultant. To say I am heartbroken is an absolute understatement. I would like to sincerely apologise to all our fans who were looking forward to seeing the shows and for any disappointment caused.

“I now need to focus on getting myself back to full health, and I genuinely cannot wait to see you all again in 2027. Our fans mean the world to us, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your love and support and trust me, Agnes Brown and her family will be back!”

Mrs Brown’s Boys specials have been airing annually on the BBC since 2011, the year the sitcom launched.

Since then, it has also inspired a spin-off talk show, All Round To Mrs Brown’s, and two films, including a cross-over with Tyler Perry’s character Medea.

Back in 2024, the show landed in hot water when rehearsals for one Christmas special were briefly paused due to an “implied” racist term.

“At a read-through of the Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas specials, there was a clumsy attempt at a joke, in the character of Agnes, where a racial term was implied,” O’Carroll said at the time.

“It backfired and caused offence which I deeply regret and for which I have apologised.”

Police officers in Greenville, South Carolina, are currently looking into the death of actor Hayden Panettiere.

On Sunday night, the Nashville star’s family confirmed in a statement that she had died at the age of 36.

Since then, a rep for Greenville Police has told NBC News that the Golden Globe nominee had been found at an apartment block in the South Carolina city on Sunday night, after a call was made to emergency services by an “acquaintance”.

“Upon arrival, medical assistance was administered; however, the individual, later identified as Hayden Panettiere, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” they said.

Their statement also explained: “The case is under investigation by the Greenville Police Department in conjunction with the Greenville County Coroner’s Office. The preliminary investigation has not indicated any signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances.

“An acquaintance of Ms Panettiere placed the 911 call.”

Hayden began her professional acting career at the age of five, and later became known for her work in shows like Heroes and Nashville, as well as the Scream film franchise.

She also appeared in Malcolm In The Middle, Ally McBeal and lent her voice to the films Dinosaur and A Bug’s Life, as well as the Kingdom Hearts video game series.

Her father Skip Panettiere issued a statement following the news of the late star’s death on Sunday, which read: “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden.

“She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her and to the millions who watched her onscreen.”

Last year, Hayden published her memoir This Is Me: A Reckoning, in which she opened up about the highs and lows she’s experienced during her time in the spotlight, including abuse, addiction and struggles with her mental health.

Hayden is survived by her 11-year-old daughter, Kaya.

We’re afraid there’s been a disappointing update for anyone hoping to see Madonna making her Pyramid Stage debut next year.

Back in June, ahead of the release of her latest hit album Confessions II, the Queen of Pop sat down for a chat with presenter (and superfan!) Graham Norton for a one-off BBC special.

During their conversation, Madonna sparked rumours that she could be performing at Glastonbury when it returns next year, teasing: “I think I’ll do promo tours for a while. Then, in the summertime, something bigger.”

When Graham questioned whether it was something “in this country”, referring to the UK, she added cryptically: “It could be. Why do I have to tell you everything?”

At the time, many interpreted this as a nod to a future Worthy Farm performance, though Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis has now poured water on this speculation.

Speaking to Radio 4, Emily said that while she can’t disclose who will be headlining in 2027, “it’s definitely not Madonna, I’ll tell you that”.

“We have got three headliners and we’re very excited about it – it’s all coming together really well,” she added.

Emily was then asked whether Taylor Swift was one of them, at which point she laughed off the question and said she wanted to change the subject.

Taylor was originally supposed to make her Glastonbury debut in 2020, following the release of her Lover album, but the festival was eventually cancelled that year due to the Covid pandemic.

Since then, the Grammy winner has released five studio albums, racked up six more UK number one singles and embarked on her record-breaking Eras Tour, but has yet to book another spot on the Glastonbury line-up.

Recent Pyramid Stage headliners have included modern chart-toppers Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Dua Lipa and Kendrick Lamar, as well as acts like Coldplay, The Cure, Sir Elton John and Sir Paul McCartney.

Meanwhile, The Sun claimed last month that Madonna had “cooled on the idea” of performing at Glastonbury, and would instead book three nights at the British Summer Time festival at London’s Hyde Park for 2027 instead.

With mere weeks to go until we can tuck into the main delicacy that is Nigella Lawson’s Great British Bake Off debut, bosses have given us a little amuse bouche to tide us over until then.

On Monday morning, producers shared a first-look photo of Bake Off’s new family together for the first time, ahead of the show’s return to our screens, which is expected to take place next month.

“Life is about to get sweeter,” they teased, alongside the picture of Nigella with her new colleagues Paul Hollywood, Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding.

“Bake Off is coming soon…”

Although an exact return date for Bake Off is still being kept under wraps for now, the show’s launch has taken place in early September since 2020, so it’s a fair bet that this year will follow suit.

The new season will be Nigella’s first since taking over from long-serving judge Prue Leith.

Nigella said when the news was confirmed in January: “I’m uncharacteristically rather lost for words right now!” she enthused.

“Of course it’s daunting to be following in the footsteps of Prue Leith and Mary Berry before her, great dames both, but I’m also bubbling with excitement.”

She continued: “The Great British Bake Off is more than a television programme, it’s a National Treasure – and it’s a huge honour to be entrusted with it.

“I’m just thrilled to be joining the team and all the new bakers to come, I wish the marvellous Prue all the best, and am giddily grateful for the opportunity!”

Last month, the Daily Mail alleged that Nigella and Paul were “not really getting on too well” behind the scenes of Bake Off, claiming that the former was finding the latter’s somewhat ostentatious conduct “rather cringe”.

Reps for Channel 4 and Paul Hollywood did not respond to HuffPost UK’s request for comment at the time, while Nigella’s team declined to comment.

Two health factors could play an important part in keeping cognitive decline at bay as you age.

New research from the University of Texas at San Antonio found physical activity and controlling blood sugar in midlife were linked to a “significantly slower rate of cognitive decline” later in life.

This adds to a growing body of evidence suggesting that modifiable risk factors contribute substantially to cognitive decline and dementia.

A total of 402 people were followed for the study – 52% were Hispanic and the rest were non-Hispanic white older adults, mostly in their late 50s.

Each participant was assessed using LS7 scores, a metric of cardiovascular health. The framework included three behavioural factors (healthy diet, non-smoking and physical activity) and four health factors (blood pressure, body mass index, total cholesterol and fasting blood glucose).

Researchers measured cognition up to four times using the Mini-Mental State Examination, an accepted 11-question screening test used to check memory, attention and thinking skills.

They then adjusted for age, sex, income and education to relate heart health factors to brain changes.

Researchers found any physical activity was linked to slower cognitive decline in older Hispanic adults. The results are published in the journal Alzheimer’s & Dementia: Behavior & Socioeconomics of Aging.

Another significant factor was fasting glucose levels (the amount of sugar in the bloodstream after an eight- to 12-hour fast). The study’s authors said lower blood sugar readings were associated with slower cognitive decline among non-Hispanic white adults.

“Our findings suggest that engaging in any level of physical activity and potentially maintaining optimal fasting blood glucose levels in midlife are associated with a significantly slower rate of cognitive decline in late life,” said Janette Vazquez, first author of the study and a senior postdoctoral research fellow at the Glenn Biggs Institute, UT Health San Antonio.

As the results differed by ethnicity, further research is needed to explore whether these differences occur in larger samples, the authors said.

Aerobic exercise in particular has been linked to a reduced risk of dementia.

According to the Alzheimer’s Society, aerobic activities worth considering include: brisk walking, swimming, water aerobics, hiking, dancing, cycling, tennis, gardening (ie. pushing a lawnmower) and decorating.

Other studies have also found a link between higher blood sugar levels and an increased risk of dementia – even in those who aren’t diabetic.

Blurred vision, increased thirst, frequent peeing (especially at night), unexpected weight loss and recurring infections like thrush can all be signs of underlying high blood sugar.

Per Dr Sonya Khan, of healthcare provider UT MD Anderson, the issue can be caused by a range of factors including diabetes, eating too many refined carbohydrates and processed foods, some cancer therapies, infections, extreme stress and severe pain.

Here are some ways to keep your blood sugar under control as you age:

• Manage diabetes if you have it.
• Avoid eating too much sugary or starchy food and instead opt for more vegetables, fruits, and whole grains.
• Drink more water. “When your blood sugar is high, your kidneys filter out the excess sugar through urine,” said Dr Khan. “Making sure you’re adequately hydrated helps support this filtration process.”
• Manage stress.
• Exercise regularly.
