Consumers looking to keep condensation at bay, this non-electric dehumidifier could be one to pick

As the chilly, damp weather sets in, consumers may be grappling with excess moisture, dampness or mould issues at home. While large dehumidifiers are often the go-to solution, a compact device from Dunelm could offer some relief.

The Absodry Moisture Absorber, currently retailing at £17 from Dunelm, could help. This minimalist box-shaped device measures 120cm by 145cm by 145cm.

It operates by utilising crystals to soak up surplus moisture from its environment, which then condenses into water within the container. This is vital for helping prevent mould and musty smells.

Being non-electric, there’s no need for plugs or batteries, making it versatile enough to be placed anywhere – from bedrooms to kitchens, cars and beyond. The design is sleek and tidy, featuring perforations on all sides of the top half, reports the Express.

A convenient water level indicator shows when the container needs emptying, allowing users to easily monitor levels. Alternatively, shoppers might consider Lakeland’s Kontrol Aqua Moisture Trap, currently priced at £6.99.

The appliance uses moisture-absorbing crystals to help cut condensation.

Like the former, it’s non-electric and pledges to eliminate ‘bad odours for fresher rooms’. The Dunelm listing suggests using it in kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms, caravans, or any areas prone to condensation.

Shoppers might also consider the Moisture Absorber – Non-Electric Dehumidifier by Foxence available on Amazon for £16.99. According to the retailer, over 600 units have been purchased in recent weeks, with options in midnight blue, misty green or pearl white.

The tablet-based system can remove up to 1 litre of moisture per tablet, with each lasting approximately one to three months.

Returning to Dunelm’s Absodry Moisture Absorber, customers have praised its effectiveness. One buyer commented: “Bought two of these for my small flat and have much less condensation on windows. Also placed one under the bed with wooden flooring and my rooms feel a lot warmer and (it) shockingly gathers loads of water.”

A second customer said: “I love the Absodry moisture absorber and the idea that you can refill them. Good idea, you can get it in different colours. The design is good and reasonably priced. I have it on my bedroom windowsill, which collects condensation every day.”

A third user said: “I already have one of these, and they are brilliant. The water that gets taken out of the atmosphere is amazing. I have my first one in the kitchen and, even over the summer and spring, I can get loads of water out.”

However, one customer felt the Absodry was rather compact for their needs. They said: “Absodry Moisture Absorber refills are a bit too small, as is the unit, as I have to keep replacing refills. However, they do seem to be doing the job. Ideal for smaller spaces where moisture is minimal.”

Another chimed in: “At the moment it seems to be working OK, but it looks better in the photo than in real life.”
