Former UFC star Chuck Liddell is accusing his ex-wife, Heidi Liddell, of abducting their daughter, just over one year after the couple finalized their divorce.

Chuck, 56, filed an emergency custody order requesting that their daughter, Guinevere, 14, be returned to him and placed in his custody full time, according to court documents obtained by Us.

The MMA legend accused Heidi, 46, of abducting Guinevere on Friday, August 14, “with no intent to return her,” five days before her scheduled first day of school. Heidi allegedly brought Guinevere to her residence in Orange County, outside of the district where she currently attends school.

Chuck alleges that Heidi realized she would not be able to get court permission to move Guinevere and their son, Charlie, 13, before the fall semester started, so she resorted to disobeying several court orders regarding custody of their kids. That included “not using the co-parenting communication app, using the children as messengers, failing to bring Guinevere to extracurricular activities, and not following the court-ordered custody schedule,” according to the documents.

Chuck wrote that he fears that Guinevere will “suffer irreparable harm by missing her first week of school,” including causing her to be kicked off the volleyball team. That, in turn, has allegedly caused Charlie “immense undue stress and turmoil” due to how close the siblings are.

Chuck is also asking for Heidi to only be allowed monitored visits with the kids to prevent her from trying to “manipulate” them or take them again.

Heidi, for her part, denied ever kidnapping Guinevere, insisting that her daughter “begged” her to take her away from Chuck.

“For the past 5 years after our divorce, Chuck has been obsessed with staying in my life and trying to control me,” she told TMZ, adding that their kids “don’t feel safe speaking up to him at this point.”

“My door has always been open for my kids to see Chuck and I never abducted anyone,” Heidi said.

She filed a response to Chuck’s court order saying she does not consent to his request for custody. Heidi also did not consent to attorney fees or costs.

“I am a full-time mother and do not have extra income,” she wrote in her response. “I have been financially bullied in court. This is partially why I had to fire my attorney. I cannot afford all the fees.”

She also wrote that Chuck has caused Guinevere to suffer “severe anxiety and mental distress,” that she is “crying out for help” and that she does not, in fact, want to play volleyball.

“She refuses to return to his house because she doesn’t feel safe with him,” Heidi wrote.

Fourteen people — including current and former Penn State students, their fraternity brothers and a prominent Pittsburgh lawyer — have been charged in an alleged multistate cocaine trafficking ring that authorities say operated out of two of the college’s fraternity houses.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday announced the sweeping charges on August 18, 2026, describing the operation as “a coordinated and highly-profitable drug-trafficking crew” that included frat brothers and their families. According to prosecutors, the alleged ringleaders — Agostino Abbatiello and Thomas Robinson — ran a cocaine distribution network between 2023 and 2024 involving members of Sigma Chi and Delta Upsilon.

The charges have rocked the State College, Pennsylvania, campus and led to interim suspensions, felony arrests and stunning allegations that pledges were used to package cocaine.

According to a grand jury indictment, Abbatiello was described by one codefendant as the largest distributor of cocaine at Penn State University during the two-year window in which the ring operated. He allegedly bragged about how much money he made selling drugs.

Abbatiello surrendered on the morning of August 18, 2026, after failing to appear at an arraignment scheduled for the day before. He has since been ordered to jail without bail. He and Lars Zeepvat, another defendant, have been hit with charges including felony corrupt organizations, conspiracy and dealing in proceeds of unlawful activity.

It is not currently clear whether Abbatiello or Robinson have entered pleas following their arrests.

Lars Zeepvat Says He Was Forced to Deliver Cocaine Over a $1,500 Spring Break Debt

Zeepvat told authorities he and Abbatiello were close friends who worked together to distribute drugs. According to the grand jury indictment, Zeepvat said he used cocaine when he first began attending Penn State and had a dealer in Philadelphia who supplied him and his Sigma Chi fraternity brothers.

When that supplier stopped communicating, Zeepvat said, he and Abbatiello sought out a new source. Abbatiello allegedly found a supplier in his Long Island hometown who provided the fraternity brothers with large amounts of cocaine.

Abbatiello allegedly purchased 100 grams of cocaine from the new supplier in spring 2023, and Zeepvat claimed there was “a shift in Abbatiello” following the buy.

“It was clear to him that Abbatiello was now selling drugs for profit, rather than sourcing it for himself and a few friends,” the grand jury indictment stated.

Zeepvat also alleged that Abbatiello punished him after he was unable to repay a $1,500 loan he had borrowed to go on a spring break trip with fraternity brothers. In exchange for the missing money, Abbatiello allegedly forced Zeepvat to deliver cocaine on his behalf.

Zeepvat and another fraternity brother allegedly made three trips to pick up large amounts of drugs for Abbatiello, and Abbatiello paid them in cash or discounted cocaine. Once the drugs arrived back on campus, Abbatiello allegedly enlisted other fraternity brothers or roommates to help him cut and package the cocaine for distribution.

How Police Busted Thomas Robinson’s Cocaine Operation

Authorities caught Robinson, a former Penn State student and Delta Upsilon brother, thanks to his Venmo activity.

An informant told police that “a male, using the nickname ‘T-Rob’ [was] selling large amounts of cocaine from the Delta Upsilon Fraternity House.” The informant added that the alleged dealer accepted payments through a Venmo account with the username “Tom-Robinson.”

A database search led investigators directly to Robinson, who had listed the Delta Upsilon fraternity house in State College as his address.

The house was raided in December 2024. According to the complaint, Robinson allegedly resisted arrest and initially thought the officers were his fraternity brothers playing a prank on him. He was tasered and taken into custody.

Inside his dorm room, authorities said they found more than eight grams of cocaine, almost eight ounces of marijuana and over 200 amphetamine and dextroamphetamine pills. A Kimber .45-caliber handgun was allegedly recovered from a safe placed on top of a mini fridge.

Robinson is facing charges including drug manufacturing and delivery, criminal use of a communication facility, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. After his arrest, Robinson reportedly told investigators he had sourced the drugs from Abbatiello.

The pair met through one of Robinson’s fraternity brothers who was already dealing drugs, and that brother allegedly recruited Robinson to become “business partners in distributing cocaine” in July 2023. Robinson allegedly received several large shipments of cocaine from Abbatiello between January and September 2024 — including orders valued at $18,000 and $22,000 each.

Thomas Robinson’s Father Paul Robinson Also Arrested

Among the 14 people charged is Thomas’ father, Paul Robinson, a prominent Pittsburgh lawyer. Paul, an attorney at Meyer, Darragh, Buckler, Bebeneck & Eck, has been charged with felony tampering, hindering apprehension and obstructing the investigation.

State prosecutors allege that Paul took steps to conceal evidence in the case, including a safe stuffed with cash and drugs. He had earned his undergraduate degree from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania — where he served as treasurer for Delta Sigma Phi — before receiving his law degree from New England School of Law in 1992. He later joined Phi Alpha Delta while in law school and specialized in transportation, commercial, construction and insurance law.

His law firm addressed the charges in a statement to the New York Post. “The allegations concern Mr Robinson individually and do not involve the Firm, its clients, or the legal services provided by the Firm,” the statement read. “The Firm is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the matter.”

Penn State Suspends Delta Upsilon After the Arrests

Either way, you’ve got a sad story here, but it’s more that The Body is sad in a genuinely crushing (and almost eerie) way, while Stand by Me, the movie based on The Body, is more bittersweet. It’s also worth noting that The Body is a novella, rather than a novel, but it’s been published as a standalone, so it still feels worthy of being called a book. And, by novella standards, it’s decently long.

The premise involves four boys setting off on a journey to try and find a dead body, and then they learn harsh truths about life along the way, in typical coming-of-age fashion. Stand by Me does show most of the hardships and acknowledge at least one tragedy that happened in the years following the main events of the story, but The Body goes a bit further with how many tragedies happened, and what it all might mean for the protagonist/narrator, who’s left in a slightly more peaceful place at the end of Stand by Me, versus at the end of The Body.

‘L.A. Confidential’ (1990)

There aren’t all that many adaptations of James Ellroy’s books, even if he’s a rather popular crime/thriller author, and lots of his stuff is quite cinematic, not to mention sometimes about the world of film. L.A. Confidential takes place in Los Angeles, unsurprisingly, and things about the entertainment industry are relevant, so it ended up making for a fairly good – and fitting – movie. Also, The Black Dahlia was adapted into a film, but not quite as successful.

The books L.A. Confidential and The Black Dahlia both belong to the L.A. Quartet, and these four novels by Ellroy all feature a lot more by way of violence, darkness, and despair than you’ll find in the already decently violent, dark, and despairing movie versions of L.A. Confidential and The Black Dahlia. The characters do even worse things, the descriptions of violence – and the aftermaths of violent acts – get more graphic, and there are also more moving parts, adding to the sense that whatever truths or conspiracies are unearthed during the narrative feel even more troubling on page than on screen.

‘And Then There Were None’ (1939)

This is a milder example, because there have been subsequent adaptations of And Then There Were None that stick to how dark the original novel is. But if you’re just talking about that original novel and the first major adaptation, which was a movie that came out in 1945, you do have things made noticeably gentler when everything made the jump from the page to the screen.

Without ruining things for either 1939’s And Then There Were None or 1945’s And Then There Were None, there is a particularly intense feel to the former that was too much to translate entirely for the latter, at least by the standards of 1945. There’s a resolution in both takes on this murder mystery, though it’s all a bit less horrifying and shocking in the movie, compared to the book (though that movie is still very good for its time, and packs a punch, even if the punch is softer because of some fairly obvious reasons).

‘Blonde’ (2000)

It’s intense stuff all-around, should you choose to read Blonde (2000) or watch Blonde (2022). The former feels almost more of a horror book than a biographical one, because it is indeed about Marilyn Monroe, sure, and there are allusions to other people who were relevant to her tragically short life, but the book frames her whole tragic life as one that stands in for abuse that’s happened – and continues to happen – on an industry-wide scale.

The 2022 movie captured enough of the book’s horror and graphic content to be given an NC-17 rating, and it stirred up plenty of controversy on its own, for sure. Yet it speaks to the intensity of Joyce Carol Oates’ original novel that the movie feels a little easier to digest in comparison (700+ pages of very detailed horror and abuse is harder to take in than 160+ minutes of very intense – but not as intense – depictions of the same).

‘IT’ (1986)

The Body was mentioned before, but not specifically as a Stephen King story, so yeah, it was Stephen King, and it was one of a fair few coming-of-age stories he’s written over the years (and he does continue to write – in both that genre and more generally speaking – into the 21st century). His ultimate coming-of-age story, though, is probably IT, which follows a group of characters at two different ages in their lives, and at both ages, they’re taking on the same horrific enemy.

There was a movie adaptation done in the late 2010s, but it split the story into two halves by focusing on the kids in the 2017 film, and then showcasing their battle against the titular IT as adults in the 2019 film. That removed the interesting structure of the novel, and also removed was some of the more alarming content found in the source material. There is stuff in IT (1986) that you couldn’t film without being charged with some kind of obscenity-related laws, so it was for the best, to put it mildly, that the two-part film adaptation wasn’t 100% faithful to the book.

‘Trainspotting’ (1993)

The biggest difference between the book and movie versions of Trainspotting is style-related, since the movie is digestible in a way the book isn’t really. You get heavy slang used in dialogue and narration in both instances, but all of it’s easier to understand in the movie, compared to the book, even if by just a little.

As for the difference in content? Yes, Trainspotting (1996) is uncompromising as a look at addiction and a certain way of life, but it’s not as harrowing as the original book, written by Irvine Welsh. This is saying quite a lot, since 1996’s Trainspotting feels very intense and honest, and it is, sure, yet the book goes several steps further in some regards, and is a piece of literature where, for better or worse, genuinely nothing feels off-limits.

‘The Wanderers’ (1974)

The Wanderers is an underrated coming-of-age book, and was written a decade or so on from when it was set. Like with lots of coming-of-age books, you can line up the time covered with the author’s life, and yes, Richard Price would’ve been a teenager in the first half of the 1960s, and The Wanderers is mostly about teenagers rambling their way through life during 1962, and a bit of 1963, too.

There was a movie that came out in 1979 that had a feeling of “telling it like it is,” or “like it was,” but it had kid gloves on compared to the book. The Wanderers (1979) is hard-hitting enough, as a film, but so many of the grittier and more intense moments from the book are either left out or altered slightly. The book is honestly pretty horrific at times, but again, that brutal honesty and sense of things being hard-hitting do make it an admirable literary work.

‘Misery’ (1987)

The last Stephen King book worth mentioning, for present purposes, is Misery. This book’s about an author who gets into an accident, and then he’s seemingly rescued by a woman who ends up being a massive fan of his writing. She’s more than a little intense in general, though, and then she gets genuinely frightening as the story goes along, and she learns that he’d recently concluded a series she had a lot of love for.

This happens in the movie, too, the whole “kidnapping an author and making them continue writing a series they wanted to move on from” thing. It’s just what the fan does to the author in Misery, the book, that proves a good deal more gruesome and stomach-churning than what she does in the movie. There’s also an infamous scene in the book involving a lawnmower that’s entirely absent from the 1990 movie (if you know, you know).

‘Lolita’ (1955)

Like with IT, there are things that happen with underage characters in Lolita that you just couldn’t show on screen, for reasons that are hopefully obvious to anyone who’s read either (or both) of these novels. The premise of Lolita is arguably more nightmarish than that of IT’s, though, since Lolita is about a man who is infatuated with a 12-year-old girl, carrying out his fantasies with her after becoming her stepfather.

The idea of making a movie version of Lolita in the first place was extreme enough that the tagline for the original 1962 film adaptation, directed by Stanley Kubrick, was “How did they ever make a movie of Lolita?” It’s a good question, but that film does work, and it does a lot by way of implying some of the most uncomfortable scenes. For what it’s worth, the 1997 movie adaptation did a similar thing, even if it’s technically a bit more intense and graphic than the 1962 version.

‘American Psycho’ (1991)

You know, the movie version of American Psycho is honestly kind of fun. There is a satirical slant to the source material as well, but everything there is nastier and generally more graphic, so you can appreciate it as satire about wealth and entitlement and class and all that, but finding it actually funny, when it gets as full-on as it does, is a bit more difficult, to say the least.

American Psycho, the movie, is still about a wealthy investment banker who either is – or imagines he is – a serial killer, and so there’s a good deal of carnage and debauchery seen on screen, still. It’s more just that it’s not nearly as detailed as it is in the book, and also, the book version of Patrick Bateman does (or imagines he does) a few things far more horrific than the movie version of Patrick does (or believes he does).

It seems pretty clear that the future of entertainment is digital. As regards films and television shows, streaming platforms such as Netflix and Prime Video and others like them are sometimes involved in a cold war of sorts, with all platforms developing new, original titles to compete with what is obtainable elsewhere. These platforms are often home to a wide range of titles that often cut across multiple genres. With Netflix launching its video streaming service in 2007 and Prime Video following suit in 2011, both stand out as entrenched members of that community. However, one other streamer has carved out a particularly impressive niche for itself.

Apple TV launched on November 1, 2019, and seven years later, the streaming service has established itself as the home of prestige science fiction without a shadow of doubt. With Dan Erickson’s workplace thriller, Severance, which has exploded into a cultural phenomenon, and the likes of Rebecca Ferguson’s dystopian drama, Silo, and Alexander Skarsgård‘s Murderbot, among others, that title is not contested. However, a lot of the success the streamer enjoys today within the sci-fi genre would likely not have manifested had TV veteran Ronald D. Moore‘s brilliant co-creation not succeeded.

For All Mankind was co-created by Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi, as the defining Apple TV Original premiered even as the streaming service launched in 2019. Wildly imaginative and surprisingly different, the sci-fi series reimagined what would happen if the Space Race’s most important moment had gone in an entirely different direction. Having paved the way to sci-fi dominion for the streamer, For All Mankind is now looking towards the exit doors at the end of an era. After five full seasons, For All Mankind is heading into its sixth and final season, which has recently wrapped filming. Coral Peña, who plays Aleida Rosales in the sci-fi series, took to social media to mark the end of filming on Season 6. Peña, who replaced Olivia Trujillo in Season 2, shared an image with the caption: “Seven years later… series wrap on For All Mankind.“

How Good Is ‘For All Mankind’?

Bieber, 29, took to her Instagram Story on Wednesday, August 19, to share a pic of her silky mane after adding new haircare products into her routine.

In the pic, she ran her fingers through her brunette tresses, which feature a delicate highlight in her front pieces, proving how soft it was. She completed her look with a natural glam. “She was so excited to see her,” the insider said, adding that Panettiere had been telling people how much she was looking forward to their time together.

Her hairstylist and close friend Erick Orellana offered a similar account. He said Panettiere had spoken to him about taking a vacation and visiting Kaya the last time he saw her a few months earlier. Orellana described Kaya as the “absolute light of her life,” saying Panettiere regularly showed him photos of her daughter and lit up whenever she spoke about her.

‘The Gentlemen’ Is One of Netflix’s Best New Shows

For those unaware of the plot, The Gentlemen follows an aristocrat named Eddie Horniman (Theo James) as he unexpectedly inherits his father’s vast country estate, only to discover that the massive cannabis empire it contains and ties he’ll have to upkeep with the British criminal underbelly. When the series was first released, it was clear that Ritchie had a strong vision in mind for the series. By mixing an aristocratic British drama with gangster chaos, the series became one of Netflix’s most unique crime shows. It’s almost as like the series blended genres, and found an unusual combination of Breaking Bad-style drug empire storytelling with Downton Abbey-style aristocratic family drama.

The success of the series is especially the case when considering the story’s first production, the 2020 movie by the same name starring Matthew McConaughey and Colin Farrell. While the film received a solid reception, the series turned the story up a notch, while allowing episodes enough time to cover its cast of characters, while still maintaining Ritchie’s signature pace. “The 2020 film features a vast ensemble of characters with multiple storylines running in tandem and often overlapping with one another, and as entertaining as it is, it’s sometimes a bit convoluted,” Nate Richard stated in his review for Season 1 of the series for Collider. “That isn’t the case with The Gentlemen, which is successfully able to play like the best kinds of British crime series packaged in Ritchie’s particular way of film-making.”

What Can Fans Expect From ‘The Gentlemen’ Season 2?

Season 2 of The Gentleman will be taking off one year after Eddie inherited his family estate and business, and sees him joining forces with Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario) and her luxuriously incarcerated father, Bobby (Ray Winstone). With the new level of power, Eddie plans to up the ante, taking them from Halstead to the lakeside villas of Italy. Per Tudum, their journey across Europe will have them facing Marco Moretti (Sergio Castellitto), a powerful Italian crime boss who is “extremely ruthless and elegant,” and the mercurial fixer Cico Maldini (Michele Morrone). “[Cico] is the man they’re entrusting to help them navigate their criminal enterprise in Italy, but he’s not a man to be trusted,” Read said.

As Eddie and Susie face life-or-death deals, betrayals and ruthless pursuits of money and influence, their connection will be tested the most. “There is great connection between them,” Read told Tudum. “In order to deepen that connection, we threw a lot of obstacles at them, and yet their affection and connection always comes through that.” In addition to returning cast members from Season 1, including Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Ruby Sear, Pearce Quigley, and Giancarlo Esposito, the second season will also welcome new faces. Among them are Castellitto, Morrone, Hugh Bonneville, Benjamin Clementine, Benedetta Porcaroli, Amra Mallassi, Tyler Conti, British professional boxer Chris Eubank Jr., and TV host and entrepreneur Maya Jama.

All that said, while there are still two weeks until the long-awaited second season of The Gentlemen drops on Netflix, it’s clear that the series will continue to be a hit on the platform. With an impressive ensemble of actors, a story that’s ever-expanding and a creator that’s so sharp and fast-paced that he has a signature flare, The Gentlemen Season 2 is already a must-watch in the making.

Charles Melton and Camille Summers-Valli are seemingly husband and wife five months after they became parents.

Melton, 35, referred to Summers-Valli as his “wife” in a new interview with People, the outlet reported on Thursday, August 20.

Us reached out to reps for Melton for comment.

The Riverdale alum previously used the title to describe Summers-Valli in his Gold Gala speech in May, calling her “my partner, my fiancée, my wife, my girlfriend.”

Melton’s latest comment comes after he revealed in March that he and the director welcomed their first baby, a daughter whose name they have kept private.

Summers-Valli announced her pregnancy in December 2025, captioning a series of maternity photos via Instagram, “Making a lil family.”

The photos showed Melton kissing Summers-Valli’s bare baby bump and joining her at a doctor’s appointment.

Melton and Summers-Valli have kept the details of their relationship and their family under wraps. However, in December 2023, the Her Private Hell star gushed about his own father’s influence on his life.

He continued, “He talked about family, responsibility. He [described] what a good man was, how a good man would love his family. He said many beautiful things — he was asking me to take care of my sisters and my mom while he’s away. I remember looking at my dad, kind of emotional, but I’m not going to [cry]. The mystery books below are all somewhere in the pipeline to your screen. A few are already filming with names attached, others have been freshly optioned by producers still playing coy about which streaming platform has bid how much for the rights. Do the reading now, and you’ll have earned the right to be smug about it later.

‘Count My Lies’ (2025)

Hulu is betting on a full Lindsay Lohan renaissance here, pairing her with Shailene Woodley as the dueling leads and slotting Kit Harington in as the husband caught between them. Running the show are Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, the pair behind This Is Us, and Sophia Bush, Katherine LaNasa, and Lou Diamond Phillips fill out the rest of the cast.

The book itself is a nervy little con. Sloane is a compulsive liar who tells one small fib to a man in a park and slowly threads her way into the lives of a glossy Manhattan couple, Violet and Jay Lockhart, whose marriage turns out to be keeping a few secrets of its own. Everything rides on how much you can trust Sloane as a narrator, and since a screen version has to rebuild that effect from the ground up, you’ll want her voice in your head before anyone else gets their hands on it.

‘The God of the Woods’ (2024)

It’s the summer of 1975, and a thirteen-year-old named Barbara Van Laar has vanished from her bunk at an exclusive Adirondacks camp. Worse, she’s the daughter of the family that owns the place, and her brother disappeared under eerily similar circumstances years before. Author Liz Moore weaves the campers, the counselors, the investigators, and the Van Laars themselves into one slowly tightening knot, until the real subject becomes how money decides which missing kids ever get a real search.

Netflix is well into this one. Moore is co-showrunning with The Post‘s Liz Hannah for Sony Pictures Television, and Maya Hawke leads as Judy Luptack, the region’s first woman investigator, backed by Kerry Condon, Tracy Letts, and John Gallagher Jr. Directors were locked in by the summer of 2026, even if the episode order still hasn’t been announced. Because Moore keeps folding her timeline back on itself, this is the kind of book you’ll be glad you mapped out for yourself before a series comes along to straighten it.

‘Darling Girls’ (2023)

Three foster sisters, Jessica, Norah, and Alicia, grew up together on an Australian farm under a foster mother, Miss Fairchild, whose warmth could turn to ice with no warning. Years later, a body surfaces beneath the old farmhouse and a detective calls, dragging the sisters back toward the childhood they’d spent decades trying to leave behind.

This one’s still early days, though Made Up Stories, the shop behind Big Little Lies, has optioned it. So the domestic-suspense pedigree is there, but nobody’s been cast and no network is attached. That long runway is actually the case for reading it now, because Hepworth’s real gift is making everyday family cruelty feel like a genuine horror story.

‘Lioness’ (2023)

If you’re after the literary pick of the group, this is it. Lioness took the 2024 Ockham, New Zealand’s top book prize, and it swaps the usual whodunit machinery for something slower and more unnerving. Therese has married into money and a powerful family, but once her property-developer husband gets tangled in corruption allegations, her polished life starts coming apart. Meanwhile, a free-spirited neighbor named Claire keeps nudging her toward a messier, more honest version of herself.

Made Up Stories snapped this up too, with The Mentalist‘s Simon Baker producing, though there’s no cast and no date. Nearly all of the novel’s charge is internal, living inside Therese’s quiet unraveling and her slow-building fury, so it’ll be interesting to see how a TV series translates that.

‘Here One Moment’ (2024)

On a delayed domestic flight, an ordinary-looking woman gets up from her seat and calmly tells each passenger how old they’ll be when they die, and what will kill them. Then her predictions start coming true, one after another, and a plane full of strangers who’ve taken to calling her the Death Lady are left to decide how much of their lives to reorganize around someone they’ll never see again.

The Big Little Lies gang is back together for this one, too: Nicole Kidman is attached along with Moriarty and producer Bruna Papandrea. Moriarty uses that one flight as a way into a dozen different experiences, and the novel hands you all of them in full. That’s the kind of sprawl a limited series will need to find a way to squeeze in.

‘The Husbands’ (2024)

Lauren comes home to her London flat and finds a husband she’s never laid eyes on. He wanders up into the attic, and a moment later, a different husband comes back down. As she gradually works out, the attic is quietly manufacturing an endless run of husbands, each one nudging her life into a slightly different direction. It’s a comedy with a sci-fi engine and real heartbreak humming underneath, all about the lives we never got around to choosing.

On the comedy side, this is the furthest along of the bunch. Apple TV has ordered eight episodes with A24. Ted Lasso‘s own Keeley Jones, Juno Temple, is set to star as Lauren. Succession writer Miriam Battye is adapting the novel, and Craig Gillespie is directing the UK shoot.

‘All We Ever Wanted’ (2018)

Start with the names attached, because they set the tone here. Netflix has Reese Witherspoon and Harlan Coben running this thing, and that pairing all but guarantees something glossy and full of twists. The rights came together in late 2025, so it’s still early days, with nobody cast. The novel is the oldest title here, from 2018, and maybe the one most primed to blow up a group chat.

In moneyed Nashville, a prep-school boy snaps a humiliating photo of a classmate at a party and passes it around. The fallout lands hard on his image-obsessed mother, Nina, and on the girl’s working-class single dad, Tom. Giffin keeps handing the narration around between the adults and the teenage girl at the center, and the loyalties get a lot murkier as readers venture deeper into the complicated class structure framing the driving mystery.

‘The One That Got Away with Murder’ (2024)

This is the list’s lone YA entry, and it’s a fast read. Lauren transfers to a new Pennsylvania town hoping for a clean slate and falls for Robbie Crestmont, whose ex-girlfriend is dead. So is his brother’s ex. The whole town has already decided the two siblings did it, but Lauren would rather dig up the truth on her own. That plan starts out looking brave and turns reckless in a hurry.

Hulu has it in development with Tawnya Bhattacharya and Ali Laventhol writing, and no cast so far. It’s a propulsive weekend read. The ingredients — its teen-noir bones, a small town where everyone’s already sure how the story ends, and a girl determined to prove them wrong — are the exact stuff streaming loves to spend money promoting in the queue.

‘The Midnight Feast’ (2024)

A wellness retreat called The Manor throws open its doors on the Dorset coast over the summer solstice, run by a serenity-peddling influencer whose land carries an ugly local history. Lucy Foley moves among a handful of narrators, circling an old friendship gone rotten and a current of folk-horror dread out past the treeline, until the final pages turn up a body nobody will claim.

Universal International Studios is developing it with producer Sue Naegle attached, and thanks to a Reese’s Book Club stamp, the audience is more or less already waiting. Foley builds these as precision whodunits with the point of view passing between potential killers, and half the fun is watching all the timelines click together yourself.

‘All the Sinners Bleed’ (2023)

Save the heavyweight for last. S. A. Cosby is the most decorated novelist on this list, and All the Sinners Bleed is peak S. A. Cosby. Titus Crown, the first Black sheriff of a small Virginia county, hunts a serial killer while the town’s buried racism keeps surfacing all around him. The plot is a bit pulpy, but nothing about the writing is. It’s also the most locked-in series of the group.

Netflix has ordered nine episodes with Black Panther‘s Joe Robert Cole showrunning. Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù plays Titus and Nicole Beharie, Giancarlo Esposito, and Murray Bartlett round out the county around him. The show was filmed in Georgia with Hans Zimmer‘s team on the score. Of everything on this list, this is the one most likely to leave you open-mouthed by the end.

The ABC police procedural, The Rookie, is one of the most beloved shows on television at the moment. In recent times, the crime drama scored a major streaming win, as the show has amassed 12.817 billion minutes viewed between January and June 2026, according to Nielsen’s streaming data. Following on from one of ABC’s biggest finales with The Rookie Season 8, the series secured an early Season 9 renewal in April as we look forward to its return later next year. With well over 140 episodes of the show available, The Rookie has demonstrated incredible staying power even as the show looks towards further expansion.

The Rookie: North will serve as the second spin-off of the franchise, looking to succeed where its predecessor, the first short-lived offshoot back in 2022, The Rookie: Feds, which was cancelled after only one season, didn’t. Feds followed Special Agent Simone Clarke (Niecy Nash), the oldest rookie in the FBI Academy, but unlike the original series, the offshoot failed to impress. Last year, ABC decided to try again, officially handing out a pilot order for a new spin-off, with extensive work ongoing behind the scenes since then. The Rookie: North will follow a middle-aged man who joins the Pierce County Police Department as its oldest rookie after a traumatic home invasion. Insecure and Top Gun: Maverick star Jay Ellis was, in November 2025, announced to have been cast in the series’ lead role as prospective rookie cop Alex Holland.

Since then, the series has worked to fill out its call sheet, adding Stranger Things favorite and This is Us alum Chris Sullivan to the cast as well. Froy Gutierrez (I Love LA), Janet Montgomery (New Amsterdam), Karen Fukuhara (The Boys), Mya Lowe (My Life with the Walter Boys), and Malik Watson were brought onboard in April 2026. Now, the show, which is set to premiere in 2027, has gone to bolster its ranks once more. According to Deadline, The Night Agent‘s Curtis Lum has been added to the cast in a recurring role. Lum is set to recur as Officer Charley Furst, a cheerful and relaxed officer who has a reputation for always finding the path of least resistance when it comes to the job.

Who Is Behind ABC’s ‘The Rookie: North’?

The Rookie creator, Alexi Hawley, returns to write and direct the series, which has Mark Gordon, Bill Norcross, and Michelle Chapman also executive producing. While still leading the original series as John Nolan, Nathan Fillion will also serve as executive producer on the new series, with series star Ellis serving as producer. Hopes are high for The Rookie: North, and while speaking with Collider’s Steven Weintraub at San Diego Comic-Con, series creator Hawley heightened it, teasing that a crossover with the upcoming spin-off is already being discussed, which would mark the franchise’s first crossover since The Rookie: Feds.

“There might be one in the works, for sure. We started shooting Season 9 on Tuesday, this last week. We start shooting North in a few weeks, early August, so we’re already into scripts on everything, obviously. There are some thoughts being put to who might go north or come south or both.”
