Taylor Swift has spent nearly two decades navigating a level of fame few artists ever experience, but the singer recently revealed how she keeps herself grounded when the pressure becomes overwhelming.
During a career-spanning conversation for The Icon Sessions, presented by the Recording Academy’s Songwriters & Composers Wing, the 14-time Grammy winner reflected on the mindset that has helped her continue creating music despite intense public scrutiny and ever-growing expectations.
As one of the most recognizable entertainers in the world, Taylor Swift acknowledged that there are moments when the scale of her career can feel overwhelming.
Rather than allowing those feelings to derail her creativity, she has developed personal coping mechanisms that help her maintain perspective.
“I go through several processes and coping mechanisms that I’ve gone through over the years,” Swift explained.
One of the most important reminders she gives herself centers on personal accountability and the choices she made throughout her career.
“And one of them is saying, ‘You chose this. You chose this every day. You could have opted out of this any day before it got unmanageably big.’ And I decided not to because I love it that much,” she added.
For Swift, that realization serves as a foundation whenever fame becomes difficult to manage. She emphasized that her commitment ultimately comes back to the work itself, adding, “Everything that comes with this ultimately is worth it as long as I get to still make music.”

Taylor Swift also reflected on the criticism she faced earlier in her career, particularly from people who questioned whether her experiences and songwriting perspective belonged in certain musical spaces.
Rather than changing course, she focused on the audience that connected with her work.
“I realized that I’m making music because I’m playing for the fans,” the 36-year-old shared, further noting, “I’m putting this out for people who care about it and who look to music as a way to cope with their life in the way that I did.”
That approach helped shape the relationship Swift has built with listeners over the years. While she described music as being rooted in “emotional truths,” she also acknowledged that not every song or story will resonate with everyone.
Instead of chasing universal approval, she believes artists must understand why they create in the first place.
“I think that if you can actually go through all those checkpoints and realize that putting out music you’ve made that you love so much is not the path to universal validation, if you’re still doing it, then you love it for the right reasons,” said Swift.

Swift’s comment about her career was not the only memorable part of her Grammy Museum Icon Sessions appearance.
After discussing fame, criticism and creativity with Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr., the “Cruel Summer” singer treated attendees to a special performance that many fans immediately viewed as a reflection of her personal and artistic evolution.
Sitting at the same flower-covered piano that became a fixture of the Eras Tour surprise-song set, Swift performed a mashup that connected multiple chapters of her career.
She began with “I Knew It, I Knew You,” her new song from the “Toy Story 5” soundtrack, before transitioning into “August” and then the ten-minute version of “All Too Well.”
The performance marked her first public performance since marrying Kelce in July and quickly became one of the most talked-about moments from the event.

Taylor Swift’s appearance at the Grammy Museum sparked more than excitement about her performance. It also reignited one of the biggest ongoing conversations in her fan community: when she will finally release “Taylor Swift (Taylor’s Version).”
While the music icon did not make any announcement during the event, fans immediately began dissecting every detail of her appearance for potential clues.
According to a report from InStyle, much of the speculation centered on Swift’s seafoam-green Dôen dress, which many fans believed closely resembled the aesthetic of her 2006 self-titled debut album.
Others pointed to floral details, green lighting associated with recent appearances, and the timing of the event as evidence that the long-awaited re-recording could be approaching.
The theories have gained momentum after Swift revealed she had completed the re-recording process. With the original album’s 20th anniversary approaching on October 24, supporters believe the timing would be ideal for a release or announcement.

While fans continue searching for clues about future releases, Swift has also received significant recognition for the work that built her career in the first place.
As PEOPLE reported, the star added another historic achievement to her résumé when she was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026, becoming the youngest-ever inductee in the organization’s history at age 36.
The announcement was made on August 11 at Belmont University’s Johnson Center, where Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Foundation executive director Mark Ford unveiled the newest class of honorees.
Swift was selected in the Contemporary Songwriter/Artist category alongside a class that included Lyle Lovett, Shawn Camp, Lee Thomas Miller and Bruce Channel.
The honor carried special significance because Nashville is where Swift launched her songwriting career as a teenager after moving from Pennsylvania to pursue music.
In a statement following the announcement, Swift reflected on her connection to the city, saying, “From the time I started writing songs as a child, I fixated on Nashville as the perfect place to be.”
She added that she wanted “to learn with and from the best and get to immerse myself in a community of storytellers,” calling the recognition from the city she loves “a beautiful thing.”
The induction came just two months after Swift entered the National Songwriters Hall of Fame, further showcasing the extraordinary impact of a catalog spanning country staples.
Real Housewives of Miami alum Alexia Nepola’s son Peter Rosello has seemingly offered public support for Kim Zolciak and Kroy Biermann’s son Kroy “KJ” Biermann Jr. following the latter’s arrest.
Rosello, 34, publicly reached out to the Zolciak-Biermann family on Friday, August 21, four days after KJ was arrested on aggravated sodomy and aggravated sexual assault allegations in Alpharetta, Georgia on Monday, August 17.
Replying to Zolciak’s most recent Instagram photo with KJ’s younger brother Kash, Rosello wrote, “Stay strong lil bro! Trust me..this will all pass before you know it. Blessings to you guys🙏”
In 2012, Rosello pleaded guilty and avoided jail time after he uploaded a video where he allegedly harassed and assaulted an unhoused person, per the New York Post. Nepola’s eldest son was arrested following an alleged domestic dispute with an ex-girlfriend in 2022, though battery and domestic violence charges were later dropped.
Meanwhile, KJ stands accused of sexually assaulting a minor female victim, who Us has chosen not to identify, at a Lifetime Fitness gym in Georgia on April 23. The victim accused KJ of grabbing her, exposing his genitals and putting them into the victim’s mouth without her consent while they were in a coed sauna.
A police report obtained by Us specified that the alleged victim underwent a medical test and the results found no evidence of male DNA in her mouth or vagina. KJ is being held in Alpharetta’s Metro Regional Youth Detention Center ahead of a preliminary hearing on September 8.
RHOA alum Zolciak disputed the allegations against her teenage son as “reckless and deeply troubling” in a statement last Friday.
“[KJ] categorically denies ever being involved with this woman or engaging in the conduct she has alleged,” Zolciak insisted. “My son voluntarily took a polygraph examination regarding these allegations and passed. Additionally, an examination was conducted, and no DNA belonging to my son was found.”
She went on to say, “False accusations can have devastating consequences not only for the person being accused, but also for genuine survivors of sexual assault and abuse. Every legitimate allegation deserves to be taken seriously and investigated based on the facts and evidence. At the same time, no one should be publicly condemned based solely on an accusation.”
Zolciak expressed confidence that “facts and evidence will establish the truth” once a criminal investigation is completed.
“We ask that people allow the proper process to take its course rather than spreading unproven allegations,” her statement concluded.

KJ’s attorney Jason Sheffield also publicly denied the allegations on behalf of the teenager.
“First and foremost, this is not the kind of information that should be for public dissemination. These are juveniles,” Sheffield told Us on Friday. “Secondly, my client is 100 percent innocent and tried to present evidence to the arresting officer, including a passed polygraph by a notable and respected sex offender polygrapher.”
The lawyer continued, “Additionally, the officer’s report notes the GBI [Georgia Bureau of Investigation] found no male DNA on or inside the areas the alleged victim claimed she was assaulted. Had the officer sat down with me, I feel certain she would’ve never made an arrest.”
Sheffield described the minor female’s accusations as “a desperate cry for attention” that he claimed were “motivated by my client’s past rejection of the alleged victim’s unwanted advances.”
“The fact that he’s been arrested and is being held without bond is a tragedy. He is not only presumed innocent but is, in fact, innocent,” Sheffield told Us. “I will work tirelessly to demonstrate to the District Attorney’s office the mean-spirited nature of these false allegations and to bring a close to this matter as quickly as possible. I’m asking the public not to presume the truth of these allegations and to give the families on both sides their space and privacy.”
KJ is one of Zolciak and estranged husband Kroy Sr.’s six children. The former couple share KJ, 15, Kash, 14 and twins Kaia and Kane, 12. Kroy Sr. also adopted Brielle Biermann and Ariana Biermann, Zolciak’s daughters from a previous relationship.

There was a big selection of impressive British shows released in 2025, with the highlight undoubtedly being Adolescence. Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham‘s one-take masterpiece was a huge hit both critically and with general audiences, earning more than 555 million hours in its first twelve months, becoming one of the most successful Netflix projects of all time. The series picked up four Golden Globes, eight Emmys, and countless other prizes in an incredible awards season run, even inciting change in the British government.
But Adolescence‘s headline-dominating success shouldn’t overshadow the other great British options to debut in 2025. Among them, and similarly groundbreaking in its subject matter, was Code of Silence. The series stars EastEnders and Doctor Who alum Rose Ayling-Ellis as the hearing-impaired Alison, as she uses her lip-reading skills to help a police investigation. The series provided much-needed, positive deaf representation on screen, something important to the show’s creator, Catherine Moulton, who herself is partially hearing-impaired.
After its hugely successful run on ITV across the pond and BritBox in the States, which even included a perfect 100% score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Code of Silence earned a well-deserved second season renewal. Over a year after this renewal, it’s now been confirmed that Code of Silence Season 2 is officially in production. The edge-of-your-seat crime thriller once again stars Ayling-Ellis, who returns as Alison, now working professionally with the police. This time, “she’s involved in a surveillance operation relating to Ruby Dowling (Emily Head).” The synopsis continues:
“After Ruby is released on bail and attacked, it falls to Alison to piece together the facts with CCTV footage. As she uncovers more details, though, it dawns on her that the truth may be uncomfortably close to home.”
Alongside Ayling-Ellis, the likes of Andrew Buchan (Black Doves), John Bishop (Doctor Who), Nathan Armarkwei Laryea (The Witcher) and Fifi Garfield (DeafFunny) all return for Season 2. New faces in an expanded cast include Jonah Hauer-King (A House of Dynamite), Jo Joyner (Ackley Bridge) Sophie McShera (The Gallows Pole), John Hollingworth (The Crown), Sasha Desouza-Willock (Vengeance: Murder on the Heath) and the aforementioned Head (Whitstable Pearl). “I am so happy to be back on set with the brilliant cast and crew that made working on the first series such a delight, and I’m looking forward to welcoming new members of the team too,” said Ayling-Ellis.
Code of Silence is available on BritBox. Check out the ASL trailer for the series below.

Empire star Serayah has called off her engagement to rapper Joey Bada$$, alleging instances of “repeated infidelity” led to the pair’s split.
“There comes a point in a woman’s life when choosing herself is no longer an option, it becomes necessary,” the actress, 31, wrote via Instagram on Monday, August 24. “After much thought, I have made the difficult decision to end my engagement and relationship with the father of my child, Joey.”
Serayah (real name Serayah Ranee McNeill) and Joey (real name Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott) share a son, whom they welcomed last year.
“I loved deeply, believed wholeheartedly in the life we were building, and wanted nothing more than to protect our family,” Serayah continued. “Unfortunately, I also had to face a painful truth: there had been repeated infidelity throughout our relationship, including during some of the most vulnerable and meaningful moments of my life.”
Serayah added that she chose to share the statement “not for sympathy, retaliation, or to publicly tear anyone down,” but “because too many women are taught to question themselves before they question what is happening right in front of them.”
“If your intuition is telling you something is wrong, listen to it,” she wrote. “Don’t make yourself smaller to keep someone else comfortable. Don’t compromise your values because you’re afraid of losing the future you imagined. And don’t allow someone else’s choices to become a referendum on your worth. Love should not require you to abandon yourself.”
Serayah concluded, “I will always respect the fact that we share a beautiful son, and my priority will be protecting his peace, privacy and relationship with both of his parents. For that reason, I won’t be discussing the intimate details of our relationship publicly beyond what I have shared here. This chapter did not end the way I prayed it would. But endings can also be beginnings.”
Us reached out to a rep for Joey for comment.
Serayah and Joey first met in 2021 at a mutual friend’s birthday party.
“I saw her and I remember thinking to myself, like, ‘Wow, I’ve never seen a woman so beautiful.’ She was just strikingly gorgeous, and her aura was just kind of radiating,” the musician told Essence in 2025. “It was really just a silent thought. But it was definitely a very distinctive feeling that I’ve never felt before.”
The pair began dating in 2022 and got engaged in July 2025, about one month after they welcomed their son.
Prior to his romance with Serayah, Joey was polyamorous. He told Essence that his relationship with the Ruth & Boaz actress “changed my perspective.”
“It definitely shifted, and the dynamic that I wanted changed. So I’m very much monogamous now, and I don’t discourage or disagree with anybody going after polyamory or whatever if that’s what you want to do,” he explained. “But this is where I’m at now, and this is where I feel secure.”
Lindsay Clancy’s defense team’s request for a mistrial has been denied by Judge William Sullivan after the prosecution recruited a witness who evoked her Catholic religion while testifying.
Dr. Kirk Heilbrun took the stand on Monday, August 24, to discuss a conversation he had with Clancy, 36, in April after she killed her children Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, in January 2023. Following the killings, Clancy survived an alleged suicide attempt.
“That was part of her expectation was that she and her children would be together in heaven with God. She was raised as a Catholic. As I understand Catholic considerations, that’s not necessarily what happens. But when I asked her about that, when I said, ‘Isn’t suicide a mortal sin?’” Heilbrun — a psychologist who was tasked to determine if Clancy was fit for trial — said, according to CBS News.
After Heilbrun made the comment, the defense objected and Sullivan called a sidebar with both attorneys. Sullivan sent the jurors out of the room and called a brief recess. Once Sullivan and the attorneys returned, Clancy’s defense called for a mistrial.
“This is just over the top. It’s the same thing again, talking about religion, talking about heaven, talking about killing people and the impact it would have on Lindsay as well as her children,” Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, said.
The prosecutor responded by saying that Heilbrun’s comment was unintentional and she pointed out that she did not ask him any questions about religion.
Sullivan ultimately determined that he would not declare a mistrial. However, he reprimanded prosecution for the witness’s testimony.
The jury then returned to the courtroom, and Sullivan told them that Heilbrun’s comments about religion were “immaterial, irrelevant and to be disregarded.”
The jury was then excused for the day, and Sullivan said that Heilbrun would conclude his testimony on Tuesday, August 25.
Earlier in his testimony, Heilbrun said Clancy became anxious when she started taking Zoloft in mid-October 2022.
“She immediately began to have some difficulty,” Heilbrun continued, stating that she experienced symptoms of depression, insomnia and “felt a lot of stress.”
Heilbrun said Clancy started to have “terrible” intrusive thoughts about harming herself in November and December of that year, and she would occasionally think of harming her children.
Clancy is currently facing three counts of first-degree murder. She has not denied that she killed her kids, but her defense argued that she should not be held criminally responsible due to struggles with postpartum psychosis and bipolar depression at the time.
However, the prosecution has argued that Clancy was aware that she killed her children and pointed to her suicide attempt as proof that she knew what she was doing.

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Miranda Hope is giving fans a glimpse of her romance with Kaleb Winterburn.
Miranda, 28, took to Instagram on Sunday, August 23, to share a series of photos from her summer, including one image of her and Kaleb embracing as they swam in a body of water. Kaleb reposted the pic to his Instagram Story on Sunday.
In another image, Miranda and Kaleb appeared to share a kiss on a boat. “A little this, a little that 🫶🏼,” Miranda captioned the upload.
Kaleb, for his part, has shared several TikToks with Miranda in the past month. In one clip, Kaleb was filmed jet-skiing as Miranda climbed onto his shoulders. “@Miranda Hope channeling her inner Koala,” he captioned the video.
Miranda was previously in a relationship with Chase McWhorter, whom she wed in 2017. The pair went on to welcome son Brooks and daughter Cohen in 2019 and 2021, respectively. Miranda and Chase announced their divorce in 2024.
Earlier this year, DeuxMoi broke the news that Miranda’s Mormon Wives costar Jessi Draper was spotted getting cozy and kissing Chase at a party.
That same day, an insider confirmed to Us, “They were having fun at a party, and it’s not serious between them.” Miranda later spoke out on the situation, revealing in a statement to Entertainment Tonight that she “knew there had been communication between Chase and Jessi but not to what extent.”
“Chase was upfront and told me that they were talking and that they kissed. Jessi reached out only after she knew Chase had told me something was going on with them,” she said, claiming Jessi sent her “apology flowers” at the same time “a rumor started spreading online that something was going on with Chase and Jessi.”
“What I never want to get misconstrued is that there is not any emotional attachment to Chase,” Miranda continued. “He is my coparent. Although I do feel disrespected by Chase, I feel slighted by my friend. Chase and I are no longer partners and while I have a high expectation of him as a coparent, I also hold my friends to a high standard and believe in girl code.”
Us reached out to Jessi and Chase’s reps for comment at the time. In April, Chase shared on an episode of the “Boyfriend Material” podcast that he and Jessi “just kissed.” Jessi, who had recently split from husband Jordan Ngatikaura, reflected on the moment in May.
“It was awful. I mean, it wasn’t an awful kiss, that sounded bad, but it was just an awful situation,” Jessi said on an episode of Hulu’s “Get Real” podcast, noting the kiss happened “one time” at a party. “The thing with Chase is we had a connection, and I was in a vulnerable state and he was really there for me after [my] divorce.”
She continued, “Honestly, it was kind of like MomTok was falling apart during that time. This was right when all the news was breaking, and none of the girls were really talking. I was leaning on him, which was the wrong idea. I had just left Jordan and my emotions were so heightened. We were drunk.”
As for where she stands with Miranda after the incident, Jessi said, “I screwed that up, and I’m Team Miranda, I just have to say. We haven’t talked about [the kiss] really.”
The cause of death for Nathan James’ father, Bill McGinley, has been revealed.
According to an autopsy report obtained by Us on Monday, August 24, McGinley’s official cause of death is atherosclerotic and valvular heart disease. The manner of death was ruled natural.
Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease is caused by plaque buildup in the arterial walls of the heart, per the American Heart Association.
James revealed last month that his father was missing after he did not return from his “normal bike ride” in Louisville, Colorado.
According to the Boulder County Coroner’s record, his father (referred to as William in the report) “was discovered on his bike in the Coyote Run Open Space” located in Louisville, Colorado “after he was last known alive between 8:30 and 8:45 a.m.” on July 29.
“The cops have started an on-foot search & investigation,” the musician wrote via Instagram on July 29 alongside several photos of him and his father. “The bike he was riding was a specialized, white gravel. He was wearing a white helmet, white shoes, black tights and a blue cycling jersey. He was riding on a 36th bike path, Davidson Mesa near Harper Lake and roads to take him back home to his house near Waneka Lake in Lafayette.”
James shared that he and his father are very close and communicated frequently prior to his apparent disappearance.
“I talk to him on the phone 2-3 times a day, ever since I’ve had a phone,” he continued. “Please if you have the ability to look and are in the area, please help me find my dad. He means the world to me.”
Two days later, James revealed that his father was found dead. He was 72.
“The police found him earlier this afternoon today and he is no longer with us,” he said in an Instagram video on July 31. “R.I.P. to my dad. He was my best friend. I love him. I have been an emotional roller coaster ride like none other that I’ve ever been through.”
James continued, “This has been the most mental mind f**k thing ever of, ‘Your dad is missing,’ and then you find him, and you find him and then he’s no longer with us,” he added. “It’s a different level of f**k with your head.”
The rock star added he was grateful to everyone who was there for him while he father was missing. He also encouraged everyone to make the most out of the time they have left with their loved ones.
“Don’t forget to tell the people you love that you f**k with them and you respect them and you wanna see them do well and you understand them and you’re there for them,” the rock star reflected. “My dad has gone home upstairs, and I love you dad.”
Taylor Swift looked back on the way her 2006 debut single, “Tim McGraw,” predicted her life now following her wedding to Travis Kelce.
“If I look back at the song ‘Tim McGraw,’ there are actually sort of hints at everything that was going to happen in the next 20 years,” Swift, 36, revealed in The Icon Sessions with Taylor Swift: A 20-Year Retrospective, released on Monday, August 24.
The track — which was the lead single from Swift’s self-titled first album — tells the bittersweet story of a summer romance, where the narrator asks her ex-boyfriend to think of her whenever he hears country music legend Tim McGraw’s music.
Swift reflected on the opening verse, where she sang, “He said the way my blue eyes shined / Put those Georgia stars to shame that night.”

“I had never been to Georgia,” she joked. “That was not real. That had not happened. But, as you are working around ‘character’ and what feels like what this character would have said. What paints a picture that informs a story that we just locked into because that first line describes so much for us.”
Swift also felt that “Tim McGraw” exemplified her preferred songwriting style where “a song [exists] as a message.”
“It’s a song that jumps forward in time,” she pointed out. “Even in jumping forward in time, it’s saying, ‘I hope you reflect back in time.’ It’s a sort of time machine song.”
While Swift has explored many musical genres throughout her career, “Tim McGraw” was a hallmark of country music’s influence on her early career.
“I love my country roots more and more the farther along this path I get,” she said. “I want to honor them more and more. I feel more and more tied to them, more loyal to them. The people who shaped who I am as an artist and a writer, that all happened in Nashville.”
“Tim McGraw” ultimately reached #6 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in 2006 and won “Breakthrough Video of the Year” at the 2007 CMT Music Awards.
In the 20 years since the release of “Tim McGraw,” Swift has gone on to sell around 250 million albums worldwide and won 14 Grammy Awards.
Her most recent studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, spent a total of 12 consecutive weeks topping the Billboard 200 chart following its release in October 2025.
Some fans suspect that Swift has already started dropping hints about a follow-up to The Life of a Showgirl — which is sure to be a momentous project since it would be her 13th studio album. (Swift has long considered 13 to be a meaningful number in her life, as she was born on December 13, 1999, and it took only 13 weeks for her debut album to go gold, among other symbolic moments.)
