The jury in Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial has finished hearing all the evidence from the prosecution and defense as they prepare to hear closing arguments.
The state rested it’s case on Wednesday after five grueling weeks, finishing with testimony from forensic psychiatrist Dr. Gregory Saathoff. ‘You’ve heard all the evidence,’ judge William R Sullivan told the court.
A total of 18 jurors, compromising of 12 women and six men, will hear closing arguments on Thursday morning before they are asked to decide Clancy’s fate.
Clancy, 36, strangled her children Cora, five, Dawson, three, and Callan, eight months, to death at her Duxbury, Massachusetts in January 2023.

The former labor and delivery nurse is charged with first-degree murder, but defense lawyers call for the jury to consider involuntary manslaughter as well as second degree murder.
Clancy has admitted to killing her children but pleaded not guilty to murder by reason of insanity, citing postpartum psychosis, and is seeking to be committed to a state mental health facility rather than face a prison sentence.

After Dr Saathoff’s testimony concluded, the prosecution rested its case against Lindsay Clancy.

Judge William Sullivan then excused the jury for the day.
‘You have heard all the evidence,’ he told the jury, but advised them to keep an open mind.
Sullivan ordered a lunch break, and when the court returns, the lawyers will go over the charges against Clancy.

Defense asks for jurors be able to consider acquittal based on inadequate police investigation
Kevin Reddington asked the judge for the jury to be allowed to consider acquitting Lindsay Clancy based on an inadequate police investigation.
‘It was no investigation,’ he said.
‘They basically accepted the fact that she strangled the children and moved on.’
He said that they didn’t test the window screen or the tumbler that she allegedly crushed pills into. He also said there are all sorts of questions about the blood spatter.
‘I could go on and on about the horrific investigation,’ he said.

Reddington jokes about agreeing with prosecution about voluntary intoxication
Reddington asked the judge to remove instructions about voluntary intoxication.
‘Believe it or not, after five weeks, we agree,’ he joked, acknowledging the prosecution had the same requestion.
Reddington said he did not see any evidence to suggestion she voluntary took drugs that induced psychosis.

Bow-wearing prosecutor Shanan Buckingham is asking the judge not to include instructions over involuntary intoxication.
She said there is no evidence to show that Clancy was intoxicated to a debilitating effect during the killings.
Buckingham said that the state does not object to the criminal responsibility explanation.

With the final witness now off the stand, the judge is holding a charging conference Wednesday to determine which lesser charges and legal instructions will be presented to the jury when deliberations begin.
The issue could prove pivotal for Clancy, whose defense argues that her mental state and the effects of medication used to treat her postpartum psychosis should give jurors a path to a lesser conviction.
Prosecutors, however, argue that she deliberately killed her children as part of a plan that involved sending her husband, Patrick Clancy, out on errands while she strangled the children in the basement before attempting to take her own life.

Before the lunch break, Reddington renewed his motion for a required finding of not guilty.

Clancy murder trial discusses suicide
Lindsay Clancy is accused of murdering her three children – Cora, five, Dawson, three, and eight-month-old Callan – in January 2023.
Although the 36-year-old does not deny killing her children, she has pleaded not guilty and claimed she is not responsible for her actions because she was suffering from postpartum psychosis.
On the day of the killings, Clancy asked her husband, Patrick Clancy, to leave their home to get takeout food and to pick up something at a pharmacy.
The former nurse strangled the children with exercise bands, then used multiple methods to try to end her own life.
She was paralyzed after falling from the home’s second-story window and is being held at a state hospital.

A woman killed in a house fire has been described by her mother as “a beautiful soul, who would have done anything for anybody”.
Natalie McDonald, 34, died along with her seven-year-old niece, Valentina Foster, in the blaze in Grangetown, near Middlesbrough, in the early hours of Wednesday.
Cleveland Police said the fire had also left a 48-year-old woman in a critical condition in hospital alongside another three people who suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Two men, aged 23 and 31, had been arrested on suspicion of murder and were in police custody, the force said.

Lisa Kirton, Natalie’s mother said her daughter was “lovely, bright and bubbly” and “everybody loved her”.
She said Valentina, also known as Tina, had been spending the summer holidays with the family.
“She was a cute little kid,” Kirton said. “I can’t believe it, seven years old – it’s just a disgrace.”
She also said Natalie’s 15-year-old daughter and a friend had managed to escape through an upstairs window.

The friend, she said, had “kicked out a window” and “had saved their lives”.
Police say they heard reports on the evening of Wednesday August 26 that drivers had been racing high-powered cars against each other.
They then found a bright orange Lamborghini supercar when its driver lost control right in front of their police vehicle at the junction of Bury Road and Hypatia Street in Tonge Fold.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “On Wednesday August 26 2026, 6.30pm police received a report of high-powered vehicles racing.

“Officers attended the Bury Road/Hypatia Street area in Bolton when this vehicle accelerated at speed, losing control of the back end of the vehicle, directly in front of a liveried police vehicle.

“The vehicle was stopped and seized under S59 police reform act with the driver being issued a traffic offence report.”

Atletico Madrid have given up hope of signing Nicolas Jackson, with the out-of-favour Chelsea forward reportedly on the cusp of a big-money move to Aston Villa.
Jackson joined up with Chelsea again this summer following a season-long loan spell with Bayern Munich, but played no part in the Blues’ 3-2 victory over Fulham on Monday night.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, a proposed move to Atleti appears ‘increasingly unlikely’ and Jackson looks set to become Unai Emery’s newest addition at Villa Park.

Jackson had been identified as a potential replacement for wantaway Atleti forward Julian Alvarez at the Metropolitano Stadium, but the La Liga giants must now consider alternative options if they are to reinforce their frontline.

Emery has been left upset and frustrated by the recent departures of Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans and Ezri Konsa for Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal respectively, and is desperate to bring in an attacker with Premier League experience before Tuesday’s deadline.
Jackson has racked up 30 goals and 12 assists in 81 appearances for Chelsea since arriving at Stamford Bridge from Villarreal at the start of Mauricio Pochettino’s reign back in 2023.

The Senegal international enjoyed an encouraging debut season in west London, netting 14 times in the Premier League, but struggled for form the following campaign before being sent to Germany on loan.

Facing the media ahead of Villa’s thumping 4-0 defeat to Brighton, Emery made no secret of the fact star striker Watkins could soon be set for the exit door.
‘We have an issue with him, it’s clear. He is another player, we have had offers for him,’ the Spaniard told reporters.
‘He is our player, I don’t want to sell him. It can change because if it is a good option for him, good option for the club and I can replace him in the squad.

A Lisburn councillor has highlighted “alarming” traffic evidence giving way to “serious concerns” over Lambeg car accidents close to a children’s play park.

The council is now seeking to grill the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) with the chamber hearing a potential blind eye being turned to parking breaches.
A Freedom of Information (FoI) request has shown that despite visits by Traffic Attendants now surging in the last month (July), no parking tickets have been handed out in seven months..
In chambers, Lisburn North DUP councillor Jonathan Craig said: ”A very controversial parking issue has raised its head again in Lambeg.
“It is a very serious health and safety issue, there has already been several accidents at this location, with one of them being a very young child who had to be hospitalised.”

“The thing that has really brought this to a head is that a resident has put in a Freedom of Information (FoI) request and has emailed it to all of the councillors.”
The Local Democracy Reporting Service has viewed the FoI, which shows DfI enforcement officers visited the Lambeg area only once in January and then not again until April.
The Traffic Attendants then made regular visits at about four times a month and then jumped to seven times in July.
The FoI requested a list of visits from January to July on the Lambeg Road, Lambeg.

Councillor Craig added:“What this FoI highlights is that on 19 separate occasions enforcement officers visited Lambeg.
“The alarming thing was that the same individual showed me evidence of an enforcement officer standing beside vehicles that were clearly parked on double yellow lines.
“But as this FoI shows that on all 19 occasions, absolutely no enforcement tickets were handed out and there is evidence showing us that should not be the case.

“I would request a meeting of all Lisburn North councillors with Roads Service to try and get a resolution to this situation. We do need to get this addressed.”
The proposal to write to DfI was approved this week by the council.
However, in the FoI response, DfI added:”Patrols have been programmed over the coming weeks.
“However, due to the high level of compliance with the restrictions recorded by the Traffic Attendants, the frequency of patrols may be reduced thereafter.”

‘The chatter we’ve been picking up over the past two weeks indicates the Russians are preparing for something,’ a senior security source revealed to me. ‘They’re planning some sort of action against UK interests. They’re going to test Burnham.’
On Monday, the Prime Minister arrived in Ukraine – and he came bearing gifts. After appeals from Volodymyr Zelensky, Burnham agreed to hand over the technical blueprints for Britain’s long-range Storm Shadow missiles.
‘Ukraine has been Europe’s protector: not a drain on our security but the frontline in keeping Europe safe,’ Burnham declared. ‘The Ukrainian people deserve not just our continued support, but our gratitude and respect.’
My understanding is that while there is as yet no specific intelligence on the precise nature of the possible impending Russian attack, the Prime Minister has been briefed on a number of likely scenarios.
At the top of the risk register is some form of cyber-attack against the nation’s infrastructure, possibly aimed at the health service or transport system. ‘That would be in keeping with the Russians’ MO,’ one security source said.

A second area of concern is some form of direct sabotage or attack on Britain’s military supply chain. Yesterday Andrei Fedorov, a Kremlin adviser and former deputy foreign minister, warned British factories could be targeted by ‘unknown sources’.
Last month, a Russian frigate conducted a ‘live-fire exercise’ off the coast of Plymouth. And in May it emerged an RAF jet carrying then-Defence Secretary John Healey had its navigation system jammed by Russia. As one defence source explained: ‘The fear is they will engineer some form of ‘incident’. It could be done deliberately. Or the fact the Kremlin is adopting a much more openly aggressive posture towards us could lead to someone down the chain of command precipitating something on their own.’
What is also particularly concerning the security services is the possibility of a direct provocation from the Russians towards the PM himself.
Last year, a house and car previously owned by Keir Starmer were subject to firebomb attacks. It’s believed these were initiated by criminals connected to the Russian state. And although two of the perpetrators were ultimately convicted, the assessment is Moscow was pleased with the results.

As an intelligence source explained to me: ‘The problem was that after those attacks Keir Starmer came out and said how shaken he and his family had been by the incident. So in the eyes of Russian intelligence that was a successful operation. And that in turn holds out the prospect they will try something similar again.’
Part of the Russian rationale for an attack on the UK would be to directly challenge Burnham’s resolve. The Prime Minister is regarded as a blank page when it comes to foreign affairs – and there is an incentive for Moscow to test him.
But there is also a broader perception within Russia, dating back to Boris Johnson, that Britain is a major obstacle to Putin realising his military aims in the region. ‘The Kremlin thinks we’re standing in the way of victory,’ one foreign office source told me. ‘Every time they meet with the Americans they’re telling them: ‘It’s the British who are the problem here. There won’t be any solution unless you pull the British into line.’
‘If you live in Moscow, you can’t ignore the war any more,’ another intelligence source claimed. ‘When you walk out of your house to go to work in the morning you see a giant plume of black smoke from the latest Ukrainian attack. You can’t buy petrol. The war’s now on Putin’s doorstep. And his attitude is: ‘The people who are doing this need to get some payback on their own doorstep.’
Since he entered Downing Street the PM has focused on domestic issues. But on Monday, his decision to stand with the Ukrainian people represented a welcome foray on to the world stage. Now we must expect a response to this expression of solidarity. A few years ago another Labour leader – Ed Miliband – was mocked for responding, ‘Hell yes!’ when he was asked: ‘Are you tough enough to stand up to Vladimir Putin?’
Andy Burnham has suggested that he is. Putin is now about to put that to the test.

Peterborough could welcome a new major high street retailer to the city. AS Watson, the world’s largest international health and beauty retailer, has submitted an application to Peterborough City Council for the use of a unit at Brotherhood Shopping Park.
The retailer owns and operates health and beauty chain Superdrug. Planning documents indicate that a new internally illuminated fascia sign would display the chain Superdrug, if the plans are approved.
The plans seek permission for a new flex-faced light box at high level, an internally illuminated fascia sign above the door, LED light goalpost and DDA compliant window manifestations at unit B1. Brotherhood Shopping Park in Walton, Peterborough, houses several stores including Next, Mamas & Papas, TK Maxx, and Poundland.

The major retailer already operates stores in Serpentine Green Shopping Centre and Queensgate Shopping Centre in Peterborough. Serpentine Green is located just a 10-minute drive from Brotherhood Shopping Park meanwhile, Queensgate Shopping Centre is about seven minutes away by car.
This planning application comes after the health and beauty chain revealed plans to open 30 new stores this year, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to the UK retail sector. The retailer said the expansion of its store footprint will create around 600 jobs across the UK.
The Croydon-based business, which was founded in 1964, currently runs more than 780 shops across the UK and Ireland. Superdrug previously said it will continue to invest particularly in “large-format destination stores and retail park locations”.

Tim originated the role of Frank-N-Furter during the musical’s original theatrical run in London, before taking the role to the big screen in the mid-1970s.
Inarguably the cult musical’s most iconic figure, Tim also delivered a number of stand-out musical performances as Frank-N-Furter including the boisterous I Can Make You A Man, the surprisingly touching I’m Going Home and, of course, the scene-stealing Sweet Transvestite, one of the film’s signature numbers.

Carrying on with the musical theme, Tim returned to the big screen a few years after Rocky Horror when he was cast as Miss Hannigan’s henchman and brother, Rooster, in the first screen adaptation of Annie.
For his work in Annie, Tim shared the screen with TV icon Carol Burnett, with the cast also featuring the likes of Albert Finney, Bernadette Peters and Aileen Quinn in the title role.
Now considered a cult classic, Tim chewed the scenery as the fabulous butler Wadsworth, alongside a cast that featured great character actors like Christopher Lloyd, Madeline Kahn and Eileen Brennan.
In a fun gimmick, when Clue was originally released, different endings were distributed, meaning there was a different outcome depending on where you watched it (though in modern reprints, all versions are included).

Playing the swashbuckling villain Long John Silver, he claimed in his 2025 memoir Vagabond was “the most delightful cinematic experience I’ve enjoyed”.

“It’s just a world of fun and I’d been glued to the TV show. I had no hesitation about working with them,” he added. “I cannot overstate how much I adored working with the Muppets.”
This certainly shone through in his performance, which is one of the strongest aspects of the family adventure movie.

In the US series, the Thornberry family is a group of adventurers who travel the world documenting animals in their natural habitats, with the cast also including future Mean Girls star Lacey Chabert and Red Hot Chilli Peppers musician Flea.

Tim made a small – but nonetheless memorable – appearance in the film adaptation of Charlie’s Angels, which crash-landed into cinemas in 2000.
Initially, viewers are led to believe that his character, owner of the tech company Redstar, is the villain of the piece, until several twists reveal this not to be the case.
While there’s no denying this movie belongs to its female leads, Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu, Tim always made the most of whatever role he was given, and Charlie’s Angels was no exception.

Will & Grace (2004)

Tim’s Will & Grace stint lasted just two episodes, but it was nonetheless a memorable one, not least thanks to a prolonged kiss he shared with both Megan Mullally’s iconic character Karen Walker and his own on-screen brother, John Cleese.
His guest appearance came towards of the show’s sixth season, as Karen prepares to marry the rich Lyle Finster.
These episodes were also notable as they marked the beginning of a multi-episode storyline featuring none other than Jennifer Lopez as herself.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 (2008)
Alright, this oft-forgotten video game might seem like a strange inclusion on a round-up of must-see Tim Curry roles.
But his live-action performance as Colonel Anatoly Cherdenko was so off-the-wall, so eccentric and so delightfully Tim Curry that it continues to go viral almost 20 years after the game was originally released.

After his stroke in 2012, Tim made only a few on-screen appearances, but he returned to his roots in this TV special based on The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Starring Emmy winner Laverne Cox as a new take on Frank-N-Furter, Tim took on the role of The Criminologist, played in the original film by Charles Gray.
While Let’s Do The Time Warp Again may not have quite gone down a storm with Rocky Horror fans, there was no denying how great it felt to see Tim back on screen, particularly in the franchise that had launched him to fame more than 40 years earlier.
