First picture of OAP killed in Scots town after being hit by van

Joan Gansh, 85, sadly died at the scene.

An elderly woman who died after being hit by a van in a Scots town has been named by police as Joan Gansh.

The 85-year-old had been walking on Dundee Road West near to Christian Road in Broughty Ferry near Dundee when she was hit by a silver Ford Transit van at 5.25pm on Saturday, December 13. Emergency crews raced to the incident but Joan was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement released through Police Scotland, her family said: “The family of Joan Gansh are absolutely devastated at the sad loss of their mum, mum in law, gran, auntie sister and sister in law in such a tragic way. Joan was the wife of the late Douglas Gansh and lived at Southampton Road, Dundee.”

Police investigations into the crash are ongoing. Officers have asked those with any information to come forward.

Sergeant David Farr, of Road Policing East, said: “Our thoughts remain with Joans’ family and friends at this extremely difficult time. I would appeal again to anyone who witnessed the crash and is yet to give a statement to officers to please come forward.

“We know that the road was very busy at the time and would ask that anyone who saw Joan or the van prior to the crash get in touch with us with any information. Additionally, I’d ask those with dash-cam footage or private CCTV please review this to see if it has captured anything that can assist with our investigation.”
