Canada Hires 48 Scholars Away From Top US Universities

Published

on

Canada is recruiting 64 researchers to universities across the country (source paywalled; alternative source), including 48 from U.S. institutions such as Harvard, Yale, and MIT. The hires are backed by more than $364 million in government funding and are part of a broader effort to attract researchers in fields such as AI, climate science, and medicine. The New York Times reports: While scientists often shy away from political discourse, some are saying the Trump administration’s assault on science is behind their departure. “I used to live in the country that I thought was the most enthusiastic about the prospects for science improving the human condition, of any country in the world,” said Phillip Zamore, the chair of RNA Therapeutics Institute at the University of Massachusetts. “And I woke up one day and that wasn’t true anymore.” He has been recruited to McGill University in Montreal, which has also hired five other researchers, and will join the medical faculty. “If scientists don’t stand up for truth, no one will,” Dr. Zamore said.

The Canada-bound brain drain from U.S. institutions began last year as the Trump administration put forward policies that targeted foreign students, academic freedom and funding for equity-related programs. Kevin Hall, a nutrition scientist who left the U.S. National Institutes of Health last year, accusing federal officials of censoring his research on ultraprocessed foods, has been hired at the University of Ottawa. “While certain countries are cutting research and turning their back on academic freedom, we’re doubling down on science,” Melanie Joly, Canada’s industry minister, told reporters at the announcement, in Vancouver, of the new university hiring. She billed it as the world’s “largest talent attraction” project. The European Union has made a similar push. “Years from now, we will look back at today’s announcement, and we will be able to seize the lasting impact of our choices,” Ms. Joly said.

Unpredictable decisions about funding prompted Seth Guikema, a professor in civil and environmental engineering, who has specialized in natural hazards modeling at the University of Michigan, to look elsewhere. His work focuses on how climate hazards inequitably affect communities, and that work has become harder to fund, he said. “Every country sets its priorities in terms of what is going to get funded, and I think Canada has done a very good job of supporting research in areas that really matter to society,” said Dr. Guikema, who will start at Western University in London, Ontario in January.

Don't Wait For Lidl: These Are The Best Plug-In Solar Panels In 2026

We hope you love the products we recommend! All of them were independently selected by our editors. Just so you know, HuffPost UK may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.

Given the current state of the world, we probably don’t have to do much to sell you on the benefits of renewable energy.

So it makes complete sense that supermarket Lidl recently announced it will start supplying plug-in solar panels for as little as £400 in the next few months.

With energy bills rising this month, the move to increase supply of renewable power sources on British high streets could help people offset their energy bills.

We know what you’re thinking: there’s not much sun in the UK at the moment. But that doesn’t mean the energy saved by using solar panels won’t add up.

And the good news is that you don’t need to wait for Lidl and other high street suppliers to try a plug-in solar panel: there are plenty of larger options available to buy now.

Best plug-in solar panels at a glance:

Best plug-in solar panels to shop now

Whether you’re dipping your toe in the world of renewable energy, or looking for a seriously durable source to rely on during the apocalypse (or what other people would call camping), we’ve rounded up the best plug-in solar panels, from £99 to £1,900.

If it’s speed you’re after, this power station can charge in as little as 52 minutes. But that doesn’t mean it skimps on power, as the panel can charge all of your household and outdoor appliances at once. Nor does it mean excess weight, as the power station is as light as a suitcase.

Specs:
In the box: Explorer 2000v2, Solar Saga 200W AC charge cable, 3m solar panel connection lead
Wattage: 2200W
Waterproof: Yes
Weight: Power bank is 17.5kg; panel is 6.3kg
Warranty: 5 years

Thinking about living off grid? This set will sort you out, not least because it can help you jump start a diesel car, should you need to. With 12 plugs, you can charge multiple things at the same time and those maximum 4400W are enough to last you several days at the very least.

One happy reviewer claimed they: “Used it on one five-day caravan trip to run a microwave, hair straighteners and 2 TVs and anything else in the caravan I couldn’t run on 12V or gas. It performed admirably and still had 83% charge remaining.”

Specs:
In the box: Jump 2200 power station, USB-A to Type-C cable, Type-C, to Type-C cable, AC adaptor, AC charger and charging cable, car charging cable, user guide
Wattage: 2200W
Waterproof: Yes
Weight: Power bank is 17.5kg
Warranty: 2 years

Looking to travel light? Good news, you can get a solar panel that folds up as small as a laptop. It’s easy to set up, so ideal for beginners, and you can slide it into a van or car and barely know it’s there – except for when you need it.

Specs:
In the box: Solar panel, 12 metre DC5521 to XT60 cable, 2 x carabiners, user manual and warranty card
Wattage: 60W
Waterproof: No, splashproof but can’t be left in the rain.
Weight: 1.4kg
Warranty: 1 year

No matter where you are, this foldable solar panel can be adjusted to maximise the amount of sunlight it absorbs. That’s thanks to its four adjustable angles, which increases its efficiency and means you get 1.5x the amount of power from the same amount of sunlight. Translation: your appliances will charge quicker.

Specs:
In the box: Anker PS200 Solar Panel (200W), 2x 9.8 ft (3 m) MC4 solar charging cable, 1.6 ft (0.5 m) MC4 to XT-60 to DC7909 connector cable and safety manual.
Wattage: 200W
Waterproof: Weatherproof (IP67)
Weight: 9.23kg
Warranty: 5 years

If you live somewhere windy, this is the panel for you. It’s bulky and heavy, which can make it difficult to pack away – especially as the panels face outward when it’s packed up – but this makes it ideal for camping in slightly more torrential climes.

Specs:
In the box: 1*Dokio 200W solar panel, 1*Dokio 20A controller, 1*9.8FT XT60 cable, 1*XT60 to Alligator clip cable, 1*JY60 to DC cable, 5*DC conversion adapters.
Wattage: 200W
Waterproof: Yes
Weight: 11.8kg
Warranty: Not stated

For an everyday solar panel that can help you lower those pesky energy bills, this a durable, reliable duo is your best bet. The power station charges in just over two hours, and is basically silent, so you don’t have to worry about unwelcome noise in your house. Plus, the power lasts a long time, meaning frequent recharges become a thing of the past. Phew!

Specs:
In the box: DELTA Max 2, portable solar panel, AC charging cable, user manual and warranty
Wattage: 400W
Waterproof: Yes
Weight: 22.7kg
Warranty: 5 years

Everything has to be smart nowadays, and that includes your solar panel. But we’re not mad about it, these panels can be synced with the EcoFlow app so you can track how much energy you’re generating – and your ROI (ie. how much you save on energy). It even means you can control the appliances you’re powering while away on holiday, and

Specs:
In the box: 2 x 450W solar panels, 800 W micro inverter, STREAM BKW-AC cable, STREAM solar panel extension cable, clamp
Wattage: 900W
Waterproof: IP67
Weight: 3.2kg
Warranty: 10 years

Here’s another panel that folds up to a briefcase size, but unfortunately due to being extremely heavy it’s not suitable for travel. But the upside of that is it’s durable and you won’t have to worry about it blowing around in the wind, and once you’re done with it you can easily fold it away.

Specs:
In the box: Foldable panel, MC4 connector, XT60 cable, power bank.
Wattage: 400W
Waterproof: Yes
Weight: 18.5kg
Warranty: 3 years

Can’t be bothered with all that dragging around? Good news, this model is just 3kg, making it easy to travel with. At just £199, it’s a steal as well, mostly because it lasts up to 10 years, and can capture sunlight from both the front and back for maximum efficiency.

Specs:
In the box: PS100 Bifacial Portable Solar Panel, 2× 8.2 ft (2.5 m) solar charging cable, 1.6 ft (0.5 m) XT60i solar charging cable, quick start guide, and safety card.
Wattage: 100W
Waterproof: Yes
Weight: 3kg
Warranty: 5 years

How do plug-in solar panels work?

Instead of having to pay for a costly installation (or deal with getting dreaded planning permission) plug-in solar panels can be installed in your home yourself, or simply propped up when you’re camping or off-grid.

Connecting a solar panel to an inverter can result in energy to charge your electronics within a few hours.

Some are even powerful enough to power a camper van, or kitchen appliances, while others are light and foldable, so they’re easily transported.

What can plug-in solar panels be used for?

Available in different forms and with varying wattage outputs, solar panels can be used in lots of contexts, including:

  • During power outages
  • To save money on energy bills by charging electronics and kitchen appliances
  • When you’re camping or off-grid
  • To power your car.

What are the benefits of solar panels?

If you’re still not sure why you would need a solar panel in your home, we asked Kian Milroy, renewables electrical engineer at solar panel intallation Heatabl to explain the how they can offset your energy bills.

“The obvious benefit of solar panels is that they allow you to generate some of your own electricity, rather than buying it from the grid,” he says. “That means you can reduce your electricity bills and protect yourself against future energy price increases.“

However, it is unlikely you’ll be able to use solar panel as your sole source of energy in the UK, Milroy notes.

“We just don’t get enough sun in winter,” he says. “But if you use a lot of energy during the day, whether you’re working from home, charging an electric vehicle, or you’re at home with a young family, it can make a material difference to your bills.

“And if you manage to produce surplus electricity, you can usually export it back to the grid through a Smart Export Guarantee tariff. But the savings you generate will always depend on your roof, how many panels you have, and how much energy you use.”

XRP Treasury Giant Evernorth Moves Closer to Nasdaq Debut After SEC Milestone

Published

on

Evernorth said on August 27 that the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) had declared its registration statement effective, moving its proposed merger with Armada Acquisition Corp. II closer to completion.

The development puts the XRP treasury company one step closer to a Nasdaq listing, although shareholders still need to approve the deal before it can close.

Evernorth Moves Closer to Nasdaq

The company announced that Armada Acquisition Corp. II shareholders will vote on the proposed business combination on September 30, 2026. Closing remains subject to that vote and other customary conditions.

Evernorth CEO Asheesh Birla said the company plans to enter public markets as blockchain utility grows, adding that it expects institutional finance to increasingly be built on-chain. “Evernorth is designed to accelerate XRP’s role in that work,” he noted in the announcement.

The effective registration statement follows a process that started publicly in March when Evernorth filed its Form S-4 in connection with its planned combination with Armada II, a special purpose acquisition company sponsored by Arrington Capital.

As CryptoPotato reported at the time, the filing provided the first detailed look at Evernorth’s plan to give public-market investors exposure to XRP through an actively managed treasury. The company said then that it had raised more than $1 billion in gross proceeds from institutional and strategic investors, including Ripple, SBI Holdings, Pantera Capital, Kraken, and Arrington Capital.

The latest filing moves the transaction beyond the SEC review stage, but it does not mean the merger has already closed. If shareholders approve the deal and the remaining conditions are satisfied, the combined firm is expected to become publicly traded on Nasdaq under the ticker XRPN, subject to exchange approval.

What the SEC Decision Changes

The registration statement becoming effective removes one major procedural hurdle, but as pointed out before, the shareholder vote remains ahead.

Evernorth’s March filing described the proposed transaction as a combination involving it, Armada II, and Ripple. Under the agreement, holders of company units and Armada stock would receive shares in the resulting public company, subject to the terms and limitations set out in the transaction document.

The proposed structure is also different from simply launching an XRP-focused fund. Evernorth is being organized as a public company whose strategy centers on holding and managing XRP. That gives investors exposure through corporate equity rather than direct ownership of the underlying token.

For XRP holders, the more interesting question may come after the merger. Evernorth, as said earlier, has raised more than $1 billion for its treasury strategy and has said it wants to build what it expects to be Nasdaq’s largest publicly traded XRP treasury company, and the community will be waiting to see whether that translates into sustained XRP demand or meaningful activity on the XRP Ledger.

At the time of writing, the fifth-largest cryptocurrency was trading just above $1.40, up almost 10% over one week and nearly 32% in the last 30 days.

BBC Confirms Ann Droid Will Return For Season 2

The BBC has given an update on the future of Diane Morgan’s hit comedy Ann Droid.

On Thursday morning, it was confirmed at the Edinburgh TV Festival that Diane will be returning as the obsolete AI bot Linda in a second season, following the success of the first run.

She enthused: “The response to Ann Droid has been so incredible. We’re all totally blown away.”

Diane added: “I’m really looking forward to not blinking, needing physio and hearing Cotton Eyed Joe on repeat.”

Ann Droid centres on a grieving widow, played by The Royle Family’s Sue Johnston, whose hapless son haphazardly buys her an AI bot to keep her company.

While initially, Sue’s character is resistant to her new companion, the two eventually grow closer and become unlikely friends.

Reacting to the news that Ann Droid will be back for six more episodes, Sue beamed: “I am so unbelievably happy that we are to do another series! Great script, great cast, great crew.

“The reaction from the public has been wonderful. Even my doctor called me Sue, Sue, Sue this morning! Everyone has been asking if there will be more and now we can tell them! Yippee.”

Since it premiered last month, Ann Droid pulled in 7.6 million viewers in its first week, a figure which has already increased to 8.1 million.

Besides Diane and Sue, the show also features appearances from Paul Ready, Kathryn Hunter and Margot Leicester.

BBC Comedy’s Emma Lawson said of the upcoming second run: “We’re delighted to be bringing Ann Droid back for a second series. Diane and Sarah have created such a warm, relatable, and uniquely funny comedy that audiences in their millions have fallen in love with.

“Alongside the brilliant team at Boffola and Witchcraft Industries, they’ve given us something truly distinctive, and Linda and Sue Sue Sue have quickly become two of comedy’s most lovable characters. We’re thrilled that we will all get to spend more time with them!”

A Vikings Update that Means Football Wins

Published

on

When a linebacker gets tasked with playing fullback, then the game of football wins. Kudos to the Vikings for moving forward with the experiment that teams would be wise to emulate.

Consider the Vikings update that Andrew Krammer of The Star Tribune sent along: “While reporting a story on the state of fullbacks in NFL, was pointed to OLB Chaz Chambliss working as a backup fullback. Told me he has been in Vikings’ offensive meetings, studying both playbooks + took practice rep vs BAL; did it in high school. Big role in store for rookie FB Max Bredeson.”

Vikings Update Sees a LB Go to FB

The Minnesota Vikings adore players who can do multiple things well. Still, tasking a defender with playing fullback is stretching things.

Now, there is some precedent here. A classic example can be found in Mike Vrabel operating as a full-time Patriots outside linebacker who would moonlight as a tight end (catching touchdowns along the way). More recently, New England leaned on DT Khyiris Tonga to jump into the fullback spot during the 2025 season, adding some imposing muscle on a few occasions.

The Vikings, though, are still doing something odd.

Adding further intrigue to the mix is that Chaz Chambliss is going to change his number so that he’s compliant with the league rules for playing fullback. Kevin O’Connell explained the rationale for the move.

Consider the head coach’s insight: “It’s just so every time, if we want to get him some snaps in the game, every single time he doesn’t have to report as an eligible.” After articulating a desire not to overlook the defender’s “swag factor,” O’Connell then said that Minnesota “can put him in just about any number and he’d just go out and play.”

What O’Connell appears to be getting at is that Mr. Chambliss is an old-fashioned ball player. The number doesn’t matter too much for him; the sophomore just wants to get into the game. “Chaz is not a guy that I worry about too much,” the skipper went on to say.

Rookie newcomer Max Bredeson is going to be leading the charge as a fullback. He got scooped up in the 5th Round even if Minnesota has next to no desire to see him carry the ball (remains to be seen). Rather, the thumper was brought to town to do some thumping.

Chaz Chambliss is looking like the backup fullback. Working somebody into that position means boasting some added depth and flexibility. Last season, Chambliss was a stalwart on special teams — he snagged 183 snaps on specials in his dozen games — proving capable as a tackler and blocker. Did something on special teams tape reveal a capacity to possibly get used on offense?

Note, as well, that Krammer points toward some background with the assignment in high school.

Chambliss is listed as being 6’1″ and 244 pounds. As an edge rusher, that’s a touch small, but it’s a good build to play off-ball linebacker, fullback, and on special teams. He looks like somebody who is on the roster fringe moving into cut down weekend.

If you’re looking for some added insight on the fullback stuff, Krammer’s work is on Star Tribune.

5 Best Hardware Asset Management Software for Businesses

5 Best Hardware Asset Management Software for Businesses

Hardware Asset Management Software exists to close that gap, but picking the wrong one means you’re still chasing ghost assets and untracked devices across your fleet.

The real challenges show up fast: shadow IT creating security blind spots, end-of-life hardware slipping through the cracks, and devices scattered across remote locations that nobody can account for. After reviewing the top platforms in this space, this guide breaks down the five best options to consider.

The research approach for this ranking

Public information formed the backbone of this evaluation: user reviews, case studies, feature documentation from official websites, and ratings pulled from major software directories. Only platforms with a track record of serving enterprise software environments made the cut.

→ See the full research breakdown

  • Workwize – Best for global IT asset lifecycle management for distributed enterprises
  • Teqtivity – Best for IT asset management and lifecycle tracking
  • Work Elevate – Best for enterprise IT operations and service desk automation
  • Device42 – Best for IT infrastructure discovery and asset management
  • Firstbase – Best for global IT asset management and hardware lifecycle automation

Why Hardware Asset Management Software Matters

Running an enterprise without the right Hardware Asset Management Software is a bit like managing a warehouse blindfolded. You know assets are moving, but you can’t always say where they are, who has them, or whether they’re still under warranty. Shadow IT alone can quietly undermine your security posture, with untracked devices creating vulnerabilities that nobody catches until something goes wrong. End-of-life hardware adds another layer of risk when there’s no system flagging devices before they fall out of support.

The right platform changes all of this by giving IT teams a clear, real-time view of every asset across every location. That kind of visibility directly improves your asset inventory accuracy rate, cuts the mean time to detect unauthorized hardware, and lifts hardware utilization rate across the fleet. Those are the numbers that actually matter when leadership asks about IT spend.

Top 5 Hardware Asset Management Software Breakdown and Comparison

Note: All data in this table is sourced from review platforms and the official websites of the listed companies.

Company Name Years Operating Headquartered In
Workwize Est. 2020 Amsterdam, Netherlands
Teqtivity Est. 2017 Cerritos, California
Work Elevate Est. 2018 Noida, India
Device42 Est. 2010 West Haven, Connecticut
Firstbase Est. 2019 Aberdeen, Scotland and New York
  • Workwize – Best for Global IT Asset Lifecycle Management

What Does Workwize Do?

Workwize runs a global IT asset lifecycle management platform built for distributed teams. From a single system, they handle procurement, deployment, tracking, retrieval, and disposal of employee hardware across 120 countries. Their platform connects with 80+ HRIS, MDM, and identity tools to trigger automated asset setup and recovery workflows. Local warehouses cut customs delays and cross-border shipping headaches significantly. They currently manage 120,000+ devices, hold ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II certifications, and have helped IT teams recover up to 98% of devices at asset recovery. That last number is hard to match.

Why Does Workwize Stand Out for Hardware Asset Management Software?

Workwize solves one of the most persistent problems in enterprise IT: most platforms only cover one or two stages of the asset lifecycle, leaving gaps that teams fill manually with spreadsheets and gut instinct. Their end-to-end coverage across 120 countries, combined with automation that saves 80,000+ hours annually, means IT operations teams spend less time chasing assets and more time on work that actually moves things forward.

Summary of Real User Reviews:

Customers consistently point to Workwize’s global reach and lifecycle automation as the features that delivered real results day-to-day. The $13M Series A funding in 2025, along with recognition as LinkedIn Top Startups Netherlands #4 and Deloitte Fast 50 Dutch tech #6, backs up what users are saying. That kind of market validation alongside strong user sentiment is rare at this stage of a company’s growth.

  • Teqtivity – Best for IT Asset Management and Lifecycle Tracking

What Does Teqtivity Do?

Teqtivity is an IT asset management and smart locker platform that helps businesses track and manage technology assets across their full lifecycle. Their feature set covers inventory management, asset setup and recovery workflows, dashboard reporting, and compliance and security tracking. Their pricing model is user-based, so organizations pay for actual users rather than device counts. That makes costs predictable as the fleet grows, which is something bigger platforms often get wrong (enterprise pricing that penalizes growth is a real problem).

Why Does Teqtivity Stand Out for Hardware Asset Management Software?

Teqtivity addresses the unpredictability problem that plagues IT asset management pricing, where organizations suddenly face steep cost jumps as their device count crosses a threshold. Their user-based model, combined with customizable workflows built around real customer feedback, gives enterprise teams a platform that adapts to their processes rather than forcing them to adapt to it.

Summary of Real User Reviews:

Users frequently call out Teqtivity’s customer support and willingness to build features based on direct feedback as a real differentiator. The platform’s applicability across multiple industries also comes up often, which suggests it handles varied enterprise environments reasonably well. Responsive support at that level is something a lot of larger platforms promise but don’t always deliver.

  • Work Elevate – Best for Enterprise IT Operations and Service Desk Automation

What Does Work Elevate Do?

Work Elevate is a digital workplace platform combining a global service desk with automation for IT and HR teams. Their three main tools are IT Copilot (an assistant for ticket resolution), Digital Employee Experience (DEX), and Endpoint Management. The platform connects with major ITSM tools like ServiceNow, Jira, BMC, ManageEngine, and Freshservice. Their automation layer handles up to 70-75% of repetitive IT tickets without human intervention, and proactive monitoring has driven ticket volume reductions of up to 42% for some customers. That’s a number that tends to get leadership’s attention fast.

Why Does Work Elevate Stand Out for Hardware Asset Management Software?

Work Elevate tackles the ticket overload problem that bogs down IT teams trying to manage hardware assets at scale, freeing up capacity for actual asset tracking and compliance work. Their deep connections with existing ITSM platforms mean enterprise teams don’t have to rip and replace their current setup, which keeps adoption realistic rather than theoretical.

Summary of Real User Reviews:

Customer case studies point to consistent reductions in ticket volumes, with one example showing a 25% drop and another climbing to 42% with proactive monitoring in place. Work Elevate’s recognition on G2’s Best Indian Software Companies list (#23) and Best APAC Software Companies list (#48) adds external credibility to those numbers. Users appreciate that the results show up in real metrics rather than just feature counts.

  • Device42 – Best for IT Infrastructure Discovery and Asset Management

What Does Device42 Do?

Device42 is an IT infrastructure discovery, mapping, and asset management platform built for hybrid environments. Their agentless discovery approach covers everything from legacy systems to cloud containers, with capabilities that include CMDB, application dependency mapping, storage discovery, and insights powered by automation. They serve organizations across 70+ countries and have built a reputation for helping customers resolve outages 10x faster. Freshworks acquired the platform for $230M in May 2024, which isn’t the kind of acquisition that happens without serious market validation.

Why Does Device42 Stand Out for Hardware Asset Management Software?

Device42 tackles the hybrid environment blind spot that catches most enterprises off guard, where legacy infrastructure and modern cloud assets sit in completely separate visibility layers that nobody has connected. Their agentless discovery means no agent deployment headaches, and the near-real-time CMDB keeps asset records current without requiring manual updates that teams rarely have time for.

Summary of Real User Reviews:

Device42 carries recognition as a Market Leader with awards for Best CMDB Tools and Best IT Management Software, and trusted names like Imperial College London and Hudson’s Bay Company appear among their customers. Users consistently highlight the depth of discovery capabilities and the reliability of the CMDB as the features that set Device42 apart. That kind of institutional trust is hard to build and even harder to fake.

  • Firstbase – Best for Global IT Asset Management and Hardware Lifecycle Automation

What Does Firstbase Do?

Firstbase is an all-in-one IT asset management platform that automates the full hardware lifecycle for global enterprises. They handle IT procurement, user provisioning, inventory management, mobile device management, and asset recovery across 150+ countries. Their zero-touch deployment capabilities and complete audit trails are built for organizations running distributed operations at scale. Their 97%+ device retrieval rates at asset recovery put them close to Workwize’s 98%, and both numbers reflect just how much automation changes what’s achievable here. Manual asset recovery rarely gets close.

Why Does Firstbase Stand Out for Hardware Asset Management Software?

Firstbase solves the cross-border asset recovery problem that typically falls apart when remote employees in different countries need to return hardware at asset recovery, a process that usually involves customs friction, lost devices, and incomplete records. Their operations across 190+ countries and backing from investors like Andreessen Horowitz and Kleiner Perkins, combined with their acquisition by AppDirect, give the platform both the reach and the resources to deliver on those global promises.

Summary of Real User Reviews:

Enterprise customers including Spotify, Cloudflare, and UiPath show up in Firstbase’s client list, which is a strong signal about what kinds of organizations trust the platform with their hardware operations. Users highlight the automation depth and audit trail completeness as features that make compliance work less painful. When companies like Cloudflare are comfortable with your asset management, that tends to mean the security and visibility story holds up under scrutiny.

Research Methodology and Selection Process

Putting together this ranking required looking across a wide range of platforms operating in the hardware asset management space. The goal was to surface options that actually perform in enterprise environments, not just platforms with polished marketing pages.

Initial Data Collection

The process started by building a broad list of platforms from multiple sources: software directories, review aggregators, vendor comparison sites, and published case studies. Information was gathered from official product pages, feature breakdowns, and customer-facing documentation. This initial sweep cast a wide enough net to avoid missing smaller but high-performing platforms that don’t always show up at the top of a generic search.

Shortlisting Phase

From that initial list, options without verifiable enterprise use cases or consistent review presence were removed. Review patterns were analyzed across platforms to identify signals that pointed to real-world adoption rather than manufactured buzz. Platforms with thin review histories, unverifiable claims, or no evidence of sustained enterprise usage were cut at this stage, regardless of how well-designed their websites appeared.

Verification of Claims

Claims made on vendor websites were cross-referenced against what actual users reported in reviews and case studies. Where a company claimed specific outcomes like device retrieval rates or ticket reduction percentages, those figures were checked against customer-facing evidence rather than accepted at face value. Discrepancies between marketing claims and user-reported experiences were weighted against a platform’s overall score.

Authority and Industry Contribution Layer

Each platform was assessed for signals of external recognition: industry awards, mentions in credible publications, analyst recognition, and enterprise clients with proven track records. Acquisitions, funding rounds, and partner ecosystem breadth were also factored in as indicators of market confidence. A platform appearing on multiple independent authority lists carries more weight than one that only appears in its own press releases.

Hardware Asset Management Software-Specific Evidence

The final filter focused on hardware asset management evidence: dedicated feature pages covering asset tracking, lifecycle management, and asset recovery workflows; reviews that mentioned real hardware outcomes; and case studies showing measurable improvements in asset visibility, retrieval rates, or compliance readiness. Platforms that only touched on hardware as a minor feature were not included, even if their broader IT management capabilities were strong.

How to Choose the Right Hardware Asset Management Software

Choosing a hardware asset management platform is less about finding the most feature-rich option and more about finding the one that fits your actual environment, team size, and compliance requirements. Here’s what to weigh before making a decision.

  • Industry/Domain Experience: Look for platforms with documented experience in your industry or a similar operating environment. A platform that works well for a 50-person startup may not hold up across a 5,000-person enterprise with hardware in 30 countries.
  • Features and Service Options: Match the platform’s feature set to your lifecycle stages. If you need procurement, deployment, tracking, and asset recovery covered in one place, verify that each stage is actually built out rather than listed as a checkbox.
  • Pricing Structure: Understand whether pricing scales by device count, user count, or some other metric. User-based models (like Teqtivity’s) tend to be more predictable as your fleet grows, while device-based pricing can surprise you.
  • Results Measurement: Ask how the platform reports on asset inventory accuracy rate, hardware utilization, and audit readiness. If the reporting layer is weak, you’ll still be doing manual reconciliation.
  • Industry Knowledge and Compliance: For regulated industries requiring strict asset chain-of-custody, confirm that the platform meets ISO 19770, SOX, GDPR asset data standards, or whatever frameworks apply to your organization.

Bottom Line

Hardware asset management isn’t a back-office concern anymore. It’s a security, compliance, and cost issue that touches every part of an enterprise IT operation. The five platforms in this guide each solve different parts of the problem, from global lifecycle automation (Workwize, Firstbase) to infrastructure discovery (Device42) and service desk productivity (Work Elevate). Pick based on where your gaps are biggest. As distributed workforces keep growing, the platforms that cover the full asset lifecycle in one place will only become more important.
