Wife’s life insurance murder plot: Six jaw-dropping details of bid to kill husband
Need to know
Michelle Mills called police to say her husband had been attacked by two men – but cops soon discovered she planned to have him killed and run off with her lover
Everything you need to know about the wife who tried to get her lover to kill her husband:
- Michelle Mills, 46, was sentenced to 19 years in prison yesterday over a plot to kill her husband, bag his life insurance money and run away with her secret lover Geraint Berry, 47.
- Her husband Christopher Mills was ambushed by Berry and Steven Thomas, who tried to attack him at a property in Cenarth, Wales, but he fought them off and sent them fleeing. Michelle reported the incident to the police but said she had no idea what the motive could have been.
- Police initially investigated the case as an aggravated burglary but changed their minds after discovering a haul of suspicious items – including gas masks, cable ties, balaclavas and guns.
- Police later discovered 2,301 horrifying messages between Mills and Berry that discussed smothering the husband with a pillow, slipping foxgloves into his salad to poison him or even putting anti-freeze in his gravy.
- Mills and Berry wrote up a fake suicide note in which Mr Mills would confess to raping and beating his wife – all of which was a lie.
- Swansea Crown Court heard the murder plot plan was carried out just weeks after a life insurance policy from Help For Heroes came into effect for Mr Mills, a former soldier – making his wife the 100 per cent beneficiary of the £124,000 payout.
