The professional boxing debut of Andrew Tate ended in disaster on Saturday night as he was defeated by Chase DeMoor at Misfits Mania in Dubai.
Tate sent shockwaves through the combat sports world in October when it was revealed that he had replaced social media superstar KSI as the CEO of Misfits Boxing.
As part of the deal to take over as the chief of the crossover brand, the adopted Brit secured himself an immediate shot at Misfits Heavyweight Champion, DeMoor. ‘King Cobra’ faces charges of human trafficking and sexual assault in three separate countries, but maintains his innocence on all counts.
The controversial influencer is an experienced martial artist with MMA, kickboxing, K1 and Muay Thai bouts on his resume. However, the 39-year-old had never fought as a professional boxer prior to Saturday’s six-round main event in Dubai. When the time came for Tate to step between the ropes, he was badly exposed.
Curiously, despite the heavyweight title being on the line, the fight was fought at a catchweight of 200lbs at Tate’s request. This meant that Chase was forced to cut a substantial amount of weight ahead of Friday’s official weigh-in.
Tate entered the contest as a big favourite and enjoyed success in the opening two rounds. However, the fight turned in the third round when the champion landed with a big right hand that stunned Tate.
A huge uppercut landed for Chase in the fifth round as Tate looked on the verge of being finished. The challenger needed a big final round in order to turn the tide, but he didn’t have enough left to do so.
DeMoor ultimately retained his crown via majority decision (57-57, 58-56, 58-56).
