Luke Evans Says Tim Curry Was Struggling Before His Death
Luke Evans is opening up about a touching letter he sent to Tim Curry just before his death.
Evans, 47, took on the Dr. Frank-N-Furter role for his 2026 Broadway debut — a role made famous by Curry in the original 1975 film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in an interview published on Friday, September 11, Evans shared that he sent correspondence to Curry to thank and compliment him for his performance that was so inspiring.
“He was very appreciative,” Evans told the outlet. “I think he was very sick when he got the letter — he was struggling a lot — and I’ve spoken to his publisher since. He struggled to speak and talk, so I think he was really in a bad place, but what a legacy.”

Evans added that he felt a connection to the late star due to their shared character, even though they portrayed Dr. Frank-N-Furter decades apart.
“What was very strange was the day that he did die, the news — of all the incredible things he did, and he did many incredible, iconic roles — it always started with the same person: Frank-N-Furter,” Evans reflected. “And I had just played him, so there was this real deep connection that I had, even though I’d never met the man. It was a strange, beautiful, tragic way to end my New York experience, but I’ll never forget it.”

News broke on August 26 that Curry died at age 80. The Los Angeles Police Department’s North Hollywood Division told Us at the time that officers responded to a call for a rescue ambulance to Curry’s home around 11:23 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25. (Us reached out to Curry’s rep for comment.)
Following Curry’s death, Evans shared the touching letter via an Instagram post, captioning it, “RIP Tim Curry. And thank you x.”
“Although we’ve never met, you’ve been part of this journey from the very beginning. Every actor who puts on Frank inevitably walks into a conversation that started with you, and I’ve felt that every night,” part of the letter read.
The letter continued, “Being compared to you has been one of the greatest compliments I’ve ever received, even though it’s a compliment no one could ever hope to live up to. There is, and always will be, only one Tim Curry.”
While previously reflecting on his role as Dr. Frank-N-Furter with LA Magazine, Curry said he looked back at the 1975 film “with a sort of bemused tolerance” after it launched his career in the industry. “It’s neither a blessing nor a curse,” he said. “I was lucky to get it.”

‘Sopranos’ Meets ‘Yellowstone’ in Hulu’s 7-Part Crime Drama Now Climbing the Streaming Charts
If there’s one thing television has taught audiences time and time again, it’s to never mix family with business — especially when it involves crime. Back in the ’90s, The Sopranos showed the psychological toll being in the mob had on Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) and how it nearly cost him his family. More recently, Yellowstone showed how past family demons can rise from the grave while the Duttons protect the legacy of their land.
In between the two hits, there’s the biker crime drama Sons of Anarchy. Following SAMCRO (Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club) Vice President Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam), the leading man has always envisioned the organization as a symbol of freedom and brotherhood, which is what his late father would have wanted. But with SAMCRO now operating as a money-making enterprise — illegal, of course — Jax begins to question his purpose within the club, leading certain family members to become concerned about where he’s taking SAMCRO moving forward.
What Is ‘Sons of Anarchy’ About?
Sons of Anarchy follows the day-to-day operations of SAMCRO in Charming, California, as told through the eyes of Jax. Since the passing of its original leader, a.k.a. Jax’s father, John Teller (Nicholas Guest), SAMCRO has been led by President Clay Morrow (Ron Perlman), who is also Jax’s stepfather. The motorcycle club has its own hierarchy, with level-headed Bobby Munson (Mark Boone Junior), violent Sergeant-at-Arms Tig Trager (Kim Coates), and fellow founding member Piney Winston (William Lucking), to name a few. Despite the strict hierarchy within the club, split loyalties and betrayals eventually sees SAMCRO fall apart as, one by one, the most long-standing members of the club are taken out.
On the outside, SAMCRO operates a repair shop under Teller-Morrow Automotive Repair. However, the legitimate business is merely a front for its criminal activities, serving as a base to orchestrate illegal gunrunning, supply firearms to other groups, and make deals with rival gangs. As the son of the founder, Jax is naturally SAMCRO’s protégé. But when he discovers a hidden manuscript from his late father detailing the motorcycle club’s early years, before it became the criminal enterprise it is today, Jax begins having second thoughts about the direction his fellow members have taken. His growing doubts eventually put him at odds with certain members and force him to reconsider the future of SAMCRO.
‘Sons of Anarchy’ Is a Modern-Day Take on Shakespeare’s Hamlet
Shakespeare fans might be quick to notice just how similar Sons of Anarchy is to Hamlet. There’s the relationship between Jax and his late father, John, as well as his current stepfather, Clay. Unsurprisingly, Clay doesn’t agree with John’s vision for SAMCRO. Although the two are founding members of the club, Clay rejects John’s pacifist approach, instead believing in ruling with an iron fist and embracing the criminal underworld. Jax’s mother, Gemma (Katey Sagal), shares the same vision as Clay. But like Hamlet, Jax is guided by the spirit of his father and begins to see SAMCRO through John’s eyes.
By the time Jax finally gets the opportunity to run the club the way he wants to, however, he realizes that the biker dynasty he has inherited is a rotten apple. No matter how hard Jax tries to eradicate the evil within the club, he ironically can only do so through violence, trapping him in a vicious cycle of toxicity. The more he tries to reclaim his father’s original vision, the more he destroys himself in an attempt to make it whole again. This cycle escalates throughout the series, which becomes increasingly apparent in Jax’s transformation. Audiences first see him as a bright and hopeful member of SAMCRO, but over the seasons, he grows into a darker and more ruthless figure whom they can barely recognize anymore.
‘Sons of Anarchy’ Pushes Each Season to Even Greater Extremes
Sons of Anarchy starts humbly with Jax’s existential crisis within the club, but the problems facing SAMCRO quickly grow beyond its own walls. As the seasons progress, the club faces increasingly dangerous enemies, including a white supremacist group, a corrupt IRA leader, and a possible RICO investigation threatening the club’s livelihood. As threats increase, SAMCRO slowly starts to unravel as members are forced to choose between the club and their own lives and the lives of their loved ones.
Jax also struggles with his own family, both with Wendy (Drea de Matteo), his ex-wife and the mother of his son, Abel, and with Tara (Maggie Siff). While Wendy struggles with addiction in the early seasons of the show, its Tara’s influence on Jax that makes him reconsider his role in the club, resulting in Gemma turning on her son and Tara in brutal retaliation. As these personal and criminal conflicts clash, the series delivers disturbingly upsetting scenes and shocking deaths that will keep fans of The Sopranos on the edge of their seat. With seven seasons and plenty of drama, it’s no surprise that Sons of Anarchy continues to climb the charts on the Apple TV store.

It’s time to clamber out of the center of the world and set sail for — or rather submerge into — a world where magnificent underwater creatures and humans alike threaten your voyage. Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea is arguably Jules Verne’s most famous book, and its story has returned to the screen with AMC’s 10-episode sci-fi series Nautilus.
Originally developed by Disney Entertainment before AMC Networks licensed the U.S. and Canadian rights, Nautilus revives Captain Nemo’s (Shazad Latif) futuristic submarine and its rowdy crew, serving as a prequel that provides a backstory for the enigmatic captain. It essentially acts as an allegory against British imperialism, and though that message is powerful, it isn’t the main reason the show is worth watching. Nautilus‘ ability to beautifully emulate the sense of adventure in Verne’s tale is what makes it stand out.
‘Nautilus’ Is a ‘Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea’ Adaptation
In the pilot, we are introduced to the plight of Nemo and his radicalized crew. They are fleeing the tyranny of a menacing governing body dubbed “The Company,” which represents British imperialism, and head out to open water to escape rather than with a specific destination in mind. The show also fleshes out the source material by depicting Nemo as Indian, restoring an important part of the character’s identity that Verne later made explicit in The Mysterious Island. The force Nemo is escaping from is also given a much more tangible presence here.
Like in the source material, there is also a ship that comes across Nemo’s submarine and mistakes it for a sea monster. When the ship tries to attack it, Nemo is forced to fight back, resulting in a shipwreck. He manages to save a number of the occupants, including the voracious daughter of an English engineer, Humility (Georgia Flood), and her fiercely protective chaperone (Céline Menville). But unbeknownst to Nemo, Humility has ties with The Company, essentially ensuring they will continue to pursue the submarine to save her and thus complicating his efforts to escape.
‘Nautilus’ Is Driven by Immersive and Gripping Adventure
Now, the political commentary in Nautilus is important and powerful, but it only works because the adventure is engaging and spiritually faithful to Verne’s writing. Like the book, the show is full of rich imagery, bringing Verne’s vivid descriptions to life with a bright color palette, detailed sets, and thoughtful costumes. It’s as striking as it is immersive, drawing you in immediately and making the prospect of an adventure in this world inviting. But this isn’t merely a setup for the treacherous voyage ahead; Nautilus maintains this level of vitality throughout its 10 episodes, making every narrative beat as visually stimulating as the last.
What’s more exciting is that the inevitable sea monsters are treated with the same care and detail. And what’s an underwater adventure series without a cool sea monster? From giant squids to electric eels, they are all terrifying while peering from the circular window in the submarine, even more so when the characters are in the water with only a helmet between them and the creature. These creatures are not just for show, as heart-pounding action sequences follow each perilous appearance of an underwater dweller.
Nautilus keeps us hooked on the voyage by sustaining its stakes and creating a real sense of danger that makes us worry about our favorite characters. That danger isn’t only reserved for the fights against fantastical creatures, but also comes from the humans themselves, whether that be those on the crew or those chasing them down on behalf of The Company. With potential threats constantly emerging from the fogginess of the deep blue, its plunging pace delivers the novelty and anticipation that make adventure stories so enticing.
Captain Nemo and Humility’s Relationship Heightens the Stakes in ‘Nautilus’
The sense of adventure in Nautilus is also created by the performances, which heighten the stakes and keep us invested in this twisty voyage. Nemo is naturally at the center of this, putting much of the pressure on Latif’s shoulders as he takes on one of Verne’s most famous characters. The series also restores Nemo’s Indian identity, a part of his history made explicit by Verne in The Mysterious Island but omitted from several previous screen adaptations. Luckily, Latif strikes a compelling balance between enigma and vulnerability in his performance as Nemo, ensuring he remains the mercurial, mysterious captain of this futuristic submarine while peeling back enough layers to hook us into the character even more.
As such, the political strife is practically the perfect backdrop to this story. It informs Nemo’s motivations and yearning for freedom while grounding the fantastical adventure in a real point of history: British colonial rule over India. Next to Nemo, Humility’s motivations onboard are also tied to the political climate. Where Nemo is driven by escape, Humility is bound by duty to her father and country. Flood’s performance reflects this conflict, as the plucky, resourceful noblewoman who is handy with a wrench finds herself torn between her obligation to return home and her evolving relationship with Nemo and his crew.
Latif and Flood’s on-screen chemistry is light-hearted, fun, and warm, making us root for them as their unlikely bond evolves during the hilarious antics on board the submarine. But more importantly, it fleshes out the stakes of the adventure, heightening the sense of real, palpable danger as we encounter new and unfamiliar perils. After all, we certainly cannot have an adventure series without genuinely fearing for our characters’ lives. Nautilus definitely has a powerful anti-colonial message running through it, but it isn’t driven by politics; it is propelled forward by the excitement and novelty of venturing into the unknown, making it a thrilling sci-fi adaptation of Verne’s famous book.

Audiences are already floating theories about M. Night Shyamalan‘s new movie, Remain, which will be released theatrically next year. It’s Shyamalan’s first new film since 2024’s Trap, marking his longest gap between movies in more than four decades. Warner Bros. unveiled the mysterious first trailer for Remain this week, prompting comparisons to Shyamalan’s masterpiece, The Sixth Sense. Released in 1999, The Sixth Sense immediately catapulted the filmmaker to the A-list and earned him comparisons to Steven Spielberg. While the jury’s out on whether he has lived up to the promise he showed early in his career, Shyamalan has certainly created a unique identity for himself, so much so that every time someone mentions twist endings, one of his movies likely comes up. That said, three years before The Sixth Sense, another movie delivered a twist so memorable that it earned its breakout star an Oscar nomination. The movie in question is currently streaming for free in the United States.
It was released in 1996 and directed by Gregory Hoblit. The thriller follows a criminal defense lawyer who agrees to represent an altar boy accused of murdering a priest. Richard Gere starred as the lawyer, while Edward Norton played the altar boy in a star-making supporting performance. It was Norton’s feature film debut, and he won a Golden Globe for his work in addition to scoring nominations at the Oscars and the BAFTAs. The film also featured Laura Linney, Alfre Woodard, Frances McDormand, and Andre Braugher.

By now you’ve probably guessed that we’re talking about Primal Fear. Those who’ve seen the movie know that it ends with an unforgettable twist, and those who haven’t seen it are in for a fun ride. Primal Fear was part of a particularly strong wave of psychological thrillers made in the 1990s, along with Se7en, Copycat, The Bone Collector, and The Silence of the Lambs. It’s a style of filmmaking that the recent Netflix title The Whisper Man paid homage to. Primal Fear grossed more than $100 million at the box office against a reported budget of $30 million, and it now holds a “Certified Fresh” 77% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Supriya Ganesh just revealed whether she plans to watch The Pitt after her surprise exit from the show.
“I mean, fan for life,” Ganesh, 28, told E! News on Thursday, September 10. “They also gave me such a start to my career. I will watch it to the extent that I watched season 1 and season 2.”
She added: “I might watch it more. I get self-conscious about my work so now I don’t have the barrier of watching myself.”
Ganesh also reflected on the lessons she learned from working with Noah Wyle, saying, “He was really great about talking about his experience and what it was like being on ER and I feel like I learned a lot about that through him.”
News broke in April that Ganesh would be written out of the show after season 2. The decision received backlash from fans who were still upset about Tracy Ifeachor‘s exit after season 1. Both departures were referred to as a creative choice.
“It’s sort of the nature of the show. Unfortunately, the way the medical profession works, you come in, you learn, you move on, and we want to try and be as truthful to that process as possible,” creator R. Scott Gemmill explained to Us at the time. “So we’re going to turn over our cast. But I think it’s a great launching pad for people, and that’s the best we can do.”
In a separate interview, Gemmill addressed the criticism surrounding multiple women of color leaving The Pitt.

“It eliminates the false jeopardy some shows have,” he told Vulture. “[Mohan] is somebody who doesn’t have a job lined up and might not know where she’s going next, and we’re trying to build up the uncertainty that these young physicians face.”
The interviewer pointed out to Gemmill that the show’s two major departures have both been women of color. In response, Gemmill called it “just a by-product of having a diverse cast,” adding, “We have a lot of women, and a lot of women of color. It’s just a coincidence more than anything else.”
Wyle, 55, also defended the casting shakeup.
“Emergency rooms have a high revolving door,” Wyle told Variety at PaleyFest’s screening of The Pitt earlier this month. “As always, we try to bring in new characters or promote from within as we go through these cast changes and try to keep the story lines fresh.”
Wyle didn’t rule out more departures before the show starts filming season 3, adding, “It’s an inevitability that’s going to happen every season with this show, because as writers we’re hard-pressed to figure out what a lapse of time we can have and keep most of the ensemble together realistically.”
He concluded: “Obviously Supriya has been a huge part of our show since the beginning. Dr. Mohan is a beloved character, and I love playing with her and working with Supriya, and we wish her all the best in her next endeavors, and we’re going to miss her.”
The Pitt is currently streaming on HBO Max.
In early summer 2026, the horror headlines were dominated by Focus Features’ Obsession. Former YouTuber Curry Barker made his filmmaking debut with this breakout masterpiece, as scary as it is poignant. Key to the film’s success was a viral lead performance by Inde Navarrette, which is already an early favorite to earn Oscars gold in 2027, alongside other major category pushes for Obsession.
Not only has Obsession been labeled one of the finest debuts of this decade, but it has also smashed many box office records. This includes becoming the highest-grossing original horror movie of this century and the only genre film in history to stay in the box office top ten for over 40 days in a row, with Obsession turning a sub-$1 million budget into more than $500 million worldwide. But Obsession wasn’t the only horror hit breaking box office records in May 2026.
Released alongside Barker’s breakout was Backrooms, which itself broke an impressive box office record as 20-year-old Kane Parsons became the youngest director ever to claim the #1 spot on the North American box office charts. Like Barker, Parsons was also making the move from YouTube to filmmaking with his directorial debut, which saw him adapt the viral online creepypasta into a mind-boggling feature-length success. Against a reported production budget of just $10 million, Backrooms earned an impressive $393 million in global revenue, but its success isn’t limited to a strong theatrical run. Four months later, Parsons’ horror smash is still proving popular, officially ranking as the most-watched movie on Amazon in the U.S., even outperforming the second-placed Obsession.
What Did Critics Say About ‘Backrooms’?
Although it didn’t earn quite the unfiltered praise of Obsession, Backrooms was still the recipient of widespread acclaim upon arrival. The film drew comparisons to the work of Alfred Hitchcock and David Lynch in Aidan Kelley‘s review for Collider, in which he called it a “near-flawless film that demands to be seen.” Backrooms scored highly on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, earning a “certified fresh” score of 87%, just 6% short of Obsession. Backrooms is led by Renate Reinsve and Chiwetel Ejiofor, and features a script by Will Soodik, who had previously penned the Homeland episode “Tower of David.”

Pierce Brosnan and his wife, Keely Shaye Smith, are ready to let go of their Malibu mansion after almost three decades of calling it home.
Speaking to U.K. publication The Times on Friday, September 11, the actor, 73, explained why it might be time for the couple to move on from their $100 million home.
“We’ve been spared by the fires a few times now. But I think it’s time to move. Everything changes, everything falls apart,” he told the outlet. “We live by this body of earth’s water on a fault in a ring of earthquakes. That creates a fear.”
The MobLand star continued, “I think the two of us are somewhat reclusive. It’s a long way into town. We have a small circle of friends here [but] people get divorced, they die, they move on. And we’re still here.”
Pierce Brosnan‘s life led him to a lasting marriage with Keely Shaye Smith. Brosnan was previously married to Cassandra Harris from 1980 until her death in 1991. In January 2025, the Palisades Fire burned more than 23,000 acres across L.A. and its surrounding suburbs, including Brosnan’s neighborhood. According to CalFire, more than 6,500 structures were destroyed, 975 were damaged and at least 27 people lost their lives.
Many celebrities, such as Billy Crystal, Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Tyra Banks and more, were among those who were affected by the severe weather disaster.
Although Brosnan and Smith’s home was “spared” during this event, they went through an ordeal a decade prior.
In February 2015, Us confirmed that their Malibu home sustained approximately $1 million in damage after a fire spread from his garage to one of the rooms in his home. According to the L.A. County Fire Department at the time, it took nearly 40 minutes for 50 firefighters to respond, contain, and extinguish the blaze.

Meanwhile, Brosnan and Smith’s marriage has continued to burn bright since they tied the knot in 2001.
Brosnan met Smith in 1994, three years after his first wife, Cassandra Harris, died of ovarian cancer. Prior to Harris’ death, she and Brosnan welcomed son Sean in 1983. (Brosnan also adopted Harris’ daughter, Charlotte, and son, Chris, whom she shared with her late ex.)
The James Bond star opened up about the secret to the longevity of his marriage to Smith during an interview with Fox News in December 2023.
“We like each other a lot. We love each other a lot,” he told the outlet at the time. “And we’ve been down the road, and we’ve seen many, many hardships as families do, as we all do.”
He added, “But watching someone grow up with you and grow old with you is a very spiritual journey. To watch each other change … whatever it may be, the hair [or] the waist … it’s [about] the love in the heart.”

Over time, the thriller genre has evolved to reflect the anxieties of modern society. Each decade introduces new fears and pressures, which often translate into high-stakes situations that test the human psyche. With that in mind, here are the 10 best thriller movies of the last 20 years, ranked.

‘The Raid: Redemption’ (2011)
The Raid: Redemption follows Rama (Iko Uwais), a rookie officer part of an elite police squad tasked with raiding a high-rise apartment block controlled by crime lord Tama Riyadi (Ray Sahetapy). Inside, criminals rule every floor, forcing residents to obey for survival. When their cover is blown, the team becomes trapped, fighting through waves of armed attacks to reach the top.
There is something claustrophobic about fighting in enclosed buildings. The moment the squad enters those doors, there’s no way out. Within tight corridor spaces, machete-wielding brutes can jump on you at any second. There is no grace in fighting, just the urgency to fend off as many attackers as possible, with adversaries literally coming from all four directions.

‘Shutter Island’ (2010)
Shutter Island starts with U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) investigating a patient’s disappearance from Achecliffe Hospital. Drawn there for personal reasons, he suspects the doctors are hiding sinister practices. Denied key records, Teddy presses on as a hurricane isolates the island. With dangerous inmates loose and clues mounting, he begins to question his memory and sanity.
The isolation of being confined to a mental facility on a stormy island does things to the mind. When someone’s head is in a daze, it’s hard to differentiate what’s real and what isn’t. Hence, the psychological aspect of Shutter Island. As the claustrophobia kicks in and Teddy’s senses are tested, a series of frightening hallucinations begins to taunt him.

‘No Other Choice’ (2025)
Unemployment makes people do the craziest things in No Other Choice. Veteran papermaker Man-su (Lee Byung-hun) loses his job when his company is taken over. He struggles for over a year to find work in the industry while his family faces growing financial strain. When he spots an opening at a rival company, he does everything to eliminate the other candidates and secure his future.
South Korea is best known for critiquing class anxiety, and No Other Choice — despite the absurdity of Man-su’s actions — reflects just that. As realistic as thrillers go, nothing is more relatable than the fear of being laid off after years of dedication. And when viewers are at Man-su’s age, that anxiety only intensifies.

‘The Secret Agent’ (2025)
The Secret Agent is set in 1977 Recife, during Brazil’s military dictatorship, where former researcher Armando (Wagner Moura) arrives during Carnival under a false identity, secretly reconnecting with his young son and a network of political dissidents. Living among refugees and underground activists, he becomes caught up in surveillance, corruption, and escalating threats.
While this sounds like fiction, there are unfortunately real threats faced by those who speak out against capitalist corporations. These dangers still exist today. The real horror comes from the idea that people in the highest socioeconomic positions can view the working class as insects they can easily dispose of.

‘The Dark Knight’ (2008)
In the aftermath of Batman Begins, Batman (Christian Bale) partners up with Lieutenant James Gordon (Gary Oldman) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) to take down an elusive mob accountant. However, when the three hit a dent in their investigation, they have no choice but to turn to the Joker (Heath Ledger). Little do they realize, the green-haired menace has plans to take over Gotham.
The real highlight of The Dark Knight is every interaction between Batman and the Joker. It’s not even the fight scenes, but the moments inside the Gotham City Police Department that bring the most adrenaline. As Batman nearly breaks him physically, the Joker sits back, clearly enjoying the fact that he’s winning the battle where it matters most — inside Batman’s head.

‘Gone Girl’ (2014)
Gone Girl is an extreme case of a marriage gone wrong. Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) returns home to find his wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) missing days before their anniversary. As media scrutiny intensifies, his seemingly perfect marriage dissolves in the public eye. Under growing suspicion, Nick becomes the main suspect of the investigation, not realizing that Amy has orchestrated the entire ordeal.
No backstabbing is worse than character assassination. Sometimes, being dead feels like a better option — at least the buried don’t have to listen to the opinions of others. But Nick is put through the wringer when he is falsely accused of being abusive. Sometimes, the best weapon isn’t murder — it’s word of mouth.

‘Inception’ (2010)
The surreal thriller Inception follows Dom Cobb (DiCaprio), a master thief specializing in extracting secrets from dreams. Offered the chance to reclaim his life, Dom is willing to take one last job. Instead of stealing information, this time, he must perform inception — planting an idea within a target’s subconscious.
There are virtually no limits in Inception. Entering the dreamscape feels like a surreal ride, and the film captures this through its large-than-life landscapes. From a zero-gravity hallway fight that spins endlessly to a dream world where an entire city block explodes piece by piece, it proves that thrillers can be just as visually stunning as they are heart-pumping.

‘No Country for Old Men’ (2007)
The chaos in No Country for Old Men begins when ordinary welder Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin) discovers drug deal carnage and takes two million dollars. Meanwhile, a psychopathic killer named Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem) hunts him down, murdering anyone in his path. As Moss tries to hide his tracks by going high and low in Texas, Sheriff Ed Tom Bell gets to the bottom of the case (Tommy Lee Jones).
The thrill in No Country for Old Men comes from just how eerily still the movie moves. There’s no explosive buildup. Instead, it throws viewers off by putting together the most ordinary of scenarios that, within a second, become a deadly affair. Case in point: Chigurh’s polite conversation at the gas station turns into a life-or-death coin toss situation.

‘Parasite’ (2019)
Parasite follows the struggling Kim family, who live in a cramped semi-basement and fold pizza boxes for scrappy pay. When Ki-woo (Choi Woo-shik) lands a tutoring job he is clearly unqualified for, he gains access to the wealthy Park family. Slowly, he brings each family member into the household under fake identities as they infiltrate this world of privilege.
Parasite challenges audiences to rethink their views on social class. At first, the film seems to “villainize” the Kims for lying their way into a wealthy household. However, it also reveals that they are victims of an unequal capitalist system. While they may be difficult to fully empathize with, their actions reflect a harsh reality where “faking it until you make it” becomes their only way out of poverty.

‘Uncut Gems’ (2019)

Uncut Gems kicks off with jeweler Howard Ratner (Adam Sandler) buried in debt and addiction. Instead of putting a pause on his gambles, he’s constantly high on the next big win. When he acquires a rare Ethiopian opal, he stakes everything on a high-risk plan involving an NBA player’s performance.
Before Uncut Gems, Sandler was known as Hollywood’s quintessential funny man — which is why seeing him play a menace is both shocking and refreshing. The film doesn’t hold your hand. Viewers are thrown straight into high-anxiety situations where people are constantly in each other’s faces, and it always feels like someone could pull a gun at any second.

Angela Murray is looking back on what she should have done differently to save herself from her recent eviction from the Big Brother house.
“I think if I had to say anything that I could do differently, it would be in the final two to three days, and of my time in the house, and that would have been to read the room,” Angela, 52, exclusively told Us on Friday, September 11. “[I] knew something was going on.”
While Angela was aligned with Survivor alums Rick Devens and Dee Valladares throughout the game, she could tell their demeanours were different after they were all put on the block by Barrett Pfeiffer.
“Devens was acting way too cool, and I felt something was off with Dee. If I could have read the room,” she reflected about the shift in energy. “I even told her ‘[Devens] wants to keep you over me.’ I knew that. I knew that she was his number one.”
Angela admitted that she should have taken the time to pitch her case to Yash Patel and Taylor Brown — who ended up being the deciding votes.
“I wish that I had gone to Taylor and Yash and told them that I’m due for an HoH. I wish I had said, ‘I’ll help you.’ I did say that, but I wish I had said things like Devens and Dee are not going to take out the boys. They’re not. They’re only putting on this big elaborate show. They’re fooling you. They actually want you guys out,” she said. “If I had said that, I could have maybe stayed, and I thought about that all night last night as I was leaving the house.”
Angela wishes she would “have been a little sneaky” and “set a different tone in motion.” However, it might have been a hard sell compared to how Dee, 29, pitched herself to stay.

“It’s very clear why the house kept Dee over me because she was acting like a killer,” she told Us. “Like she said in her speech — and she had been saying it all week long, ‘I’m gonna help you get out those boys,’ meaning Drew [Campbell] and Barrett.”
Angela knows all too well that Dee “has a history of winning and being very good” at games so the Survivor 45 winner’s argument was something she would “be able to deliver on that promise.”
While Angela knows she would have had to convince Yash, 24, and Taylor, 27, to flip their votes, she couldn’t see herself being loyal to them.
“I didn’t have that energy in me. I didn’t give that. I played very undertone because if I were to stay, I would have wanted Barrett and Drew to not be [targeted]. I didn’t want to be a threat to them,” she admitted. “I could either go with Yash and Taylor or I could go with Barrett and Drew. That was kind of my strategy of staying a little bit more even keel with that.”

Angela was no stranger to the Big Brother house as she was a fan favorite during her first time playing in season 26. However, viewers got to see the evolution of Angela this year.
“Playing Big Brother this season compared to my first, I think there are a lot of changes,” she told Us. “There’s some familiar things because you know I’m Angela. I’m who I am, and I’m gonna play the way I want to play. And I play with my heart. I play with my gut. I always felt like I did have good reads in both seasons.”
The real estate agent continued, “I think the thing that’s different the most is that I strategized. I had multiple alliances, and I paid attention. And when I saw that there was going to be a divide starting in the house, and I was watching some of the heavy hitters puff out their chest, and I pointed out to them that there was this divide starting, and I was also kind of guiding that kind of divide and planting seeds. I created Big Brother from the get-go, and I think that is the difference.”

‘Bosch’ Meets ‘Yellowstone’ in Taylor Sheridan’s 8-Part American Western Officially Dominating Paramount+
Few writers and producers have been as busy this year as Taylor Sheridan, but that doesn’t come as much of a surprise considering he’s balancing so many projects. Not only is Sheridan continuing to expand the Yellowstone universe with spin-offs like Marshals and Dutton Ranch, but he’s also working on seasons of new shows like Tulsa King and Landman. Sheridan is also getting back into the screenwriting business with some of his new projects, including his new Sicario-style action thriller, F.A.S.T., and his Call of Duty movie with director Peter Berg. Sheridan has developed an almost unprecedented audience in recent years, and although he’s leaving Paramount in favor of NBCUniversal in a few years, meaning his shows will soon stream on Peacock, it’s expected that most of his fans will have no trouble making the move to a different platform.
While Yellowstone or Tulsa King may be the first show that comes to mind when you think of Taylor Sheridan, he has written and produced other iconic Westerns over the years that you may not realize he was attached to. One of such stories is Lawmen: Bass Reeves, which was written and created for TV by Chad Feehan but produced by Taylor Sheridan, who also gave insight into the story and creative direction. Sheridan and Feehan reunited earlier this year for the first season of Dutton Ranch, but Feehan has since been dismissed as the showrunner for Season 2, with Benjamin Cavell taking over showrunning duties for Season 2. Three years after Lawmen: Bass Reeves began streaming on Paramount Plus, the show has returned to the streaming top 10 as fans wait for the next Sheridan-produced show to hit streaming.
What Is ‘Lawmen: Bass Reeves’ About?
The official synopsis for Lawmen: Bass Reeves, which earned scores of 79% from critics and 91% from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, reads as follows: “Lawmen: Bass Reeves follows the legendary lawman Bass Reeves, one of the greatest frontier heroes and one of the first Black deputy U.S. Marshals west of the Mississippi River.” Fans have asked questions for years about a potential second season of Lawmen: Bass Reeves, but Paramount and Sheridan have confirmed at every turn that the show is a limited series that was only ever designed for one season. The cleanest way to pitch Lawmen: Bass Reeves to someone who hasn’t seen it is that it’s like if you put Bosch and Yellowstone in a blender. The show is the perfect mash-up of a sweeping Western epic and a detective thriller.
