One of Brian Friel’s best-known and most enduring plays has begun rehearsals at the Lyric this week. With the supremely talented cast of Conleth Hill, Lisa Dwyer Hogg, and Chris McCurry, under the skilful direction of Emma Jordan, Faith Healer is our much anticipated production coming this October.

The rehearsal room buzzed as our incredible creative team shared their vision for what’s in store for this masterpiece, followed by a read-through of the script by our talented cast. From day one, it’s clear this performance will be electrifying.

This is also a special production, as we are thrilled to showcase Faith Healer as a highlight of our 75th Anniversary programme, celebrating and honouring Brian Friel’s significant contribution to our theatre over the many years.

I was thinking how I’m always amused to stumble on older pieces that we’ve featured here on Corporette® … sometimes they still look good, or I remember liking them. Other times, the styling or the featured piece of clothing is just… fug.

I thought it might be fun to share some previously featured items with you guys, and discuss — would you wear these items today? If so, how would you style them in 2026? If you’ve replaced items like this in your closet, what are you wearing instead of them?

First up, some of the things we featured on September 14 over the years…

What We Wore on September 14

September 14, 2010

black dress with blue sashblack dress with blue sash

This gorgeous Badgley Mischka dress was our pick for a Tuesday workwear report back in 2010. It doesn’t feel particularly 2010 to me, or any other time — which may be why I like it as much today as I did then. I think the cobalt accent is subtle, and I still love the boatneck neckline and loose dolman sleeves. The dress was a stretchy woven wool. It was $395, marked down to $237 at Bluefly.

September 14, 2012

Luxe-touch piped neckline teeLuxe-touch piped neckline tee

I’m not sure why this Banana Republic tee is so familiar to me — it was our Frugal Friday pick back in 2012. I described it back then as a “bit of piped charmeuse trim at the neckline,” which rings a bell today — I think I bought this one. (Possibly in multiple colors!) It was marked to $29-$36 but you could take it down to $20-$25… I miss when Banana Republic had great bargains like that. (I just checked, the average price for a T-shirt at BR is $55 today, but lots on sale for $30.)

September 14, 2015

gray wrap dressgray wrap dress

I loved this Paule Ka dress back in 2015, describing the wrap detail as “intricate and architectural.” It was $845 at ShopBop. (Were we really wearing peep-toe platform slingbacks in 2015?!)

September 14, 2016

flared dress for workflared dress for work

Wow. This Boden dress is one of the more dated options so far. It just feels very… colorblocked. I do like the way it sort of hints at a bustier with the colorblocking, and this is the kind of thing that would have been one of my favorites back then. But… yeah. I noted in the post that it also came in a solid burgundy, which I can see having withstood the test of time better than this guy.

It may interest you to know that that day we also did a (sponsored) post titled “The Limited and Eva Longoria Take You From Work to Wine.

September 14, 2017

blue corduroy pantsblue corduroy pants

Would you wear these Banana Republic corduroy pants today? Ankle pants are still in style (although less than they were), cords are still in style… admittedly, the styling with the high heels does look a bit dated, as do the slash pockets on the hips. If I found them in a thrift store today, though, I’d probably still view them as a find; it’s a great color. Back in 2017, the pants were $65, down from $88.

September 14, 2018

black mini dressblack mini dress

Back in 2018, this ponte dress was a bestseller at J.Crew Factory. Aside from the fact that it’s very short for work, though, I still like the dress — it feels like a classic. Thoughts? The dress was $65.

September 14, 2020

blue sweater with madras wool dickeyblue sweater with madras wool dickey

Huh… this Tory Burch dickey sweater is not my favorite, but then I’m never a fan of a big scarf. I’m assuming the scarf is detachable, which might be fine, but overall it feels like a weird length. It was $498.

(Psst: you can see previous installments of this occasional series here!)

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

I’m loving the slightly unusual asymmetric neckline on this dress from Modern Citizen. The combination of the cool neckline with the classic A-line creates a really interesting look.

I would add some fun earrings and wear this on a day when I didn’t feel like I needed a blazer to complete my outfit.

The dress is $228 at Modern Citizen and comes in sizes XS-1X. It also comes in black.

The Perfect Pairing

The Perfect Pairing

Outfit Details: Celine Jacket (last seen here, similar less expensive here), Doen Dress (more sizes here), Miu Miu Sneakers (last seen here, more colors here, similar here), Saint Laurent Sunglasses

I love when a dress feels like it already knows what jacket it belongs with. There’s something so satisfying about a dress that gets complemented rather than covered by whatever gets thrown on top of it, whether the layer picks up the print, mirrors an embroidered trim, or makes the color more dramatic. Pairings that feel easy enough for lunch, pretty enough for date night, and interesting enough for whatever event is on the itinerary.

That’s the common thread I pulled together here. Casual dresses feel like more of a moment with a jacket that shares their rhythm, while silk, suede, and embroidered pieces feel even more finished when the layer reads as part of the same story. The right match doesn’t have to be obvious. Sometimes it’s the shade, the texture, or the proportion that makes everything click, turning two separate pieces into one complete look.

I tend to prefer claw clips, but if I was looking for a new barrette, this pretty one from Lele Sadoughi would be at the top of my list.

I like the arrangement of the stones — having five opposed to three feels a lot more luxe.

The barrette is $75, at Nordstrom.

Twenty years after Fashion Bomb Daily first started chronicling style, the brand threw the party to prove it: the 6th annual Bomb Fashion Show, presented by Bask & Lather Co., Belo and Co Records, and Beyond the Bleacherz filled the room with star power, fashion, and energy.

The evening brought together style, music, and community for a celebration that surpassed every year before it, a true toast to two decades of impact.

Guests arrived dressed to the nines, filling the room with the kind of style Fashion Bomb Daily has championed since day one, and the energy inside made clear this was a milestone unlike any other in the brand’s history.

The Breakfast Club’s Loren Lorosa lit up the night with her spectacular hosting skills.

Each designer used the anniversary as a moment to show their best work, and it showed — this was some of the strongest runway programming the show has delivered.

Le Kool Champagne flowed all night as DJ Monday Blue and Gud Girl traded off on the decks, keeping the room moving before handing things off to a Belo Records after party that ran the celebration past midnight.

Twenty years in, Fashion Bomb Daily has never thrown a bigger night than this one. If this is what year 20 looks like, year 21 has a lot to live up to. The event was sponsored by Bask & Lather Co., Beyond the Bleacherz, and Belo Records.

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

This dress from The Fold comes in what the brand calls a “spring green” color, but I’d be pretty excited to wear it this fall. The geometric neckline has an effect that’s similar to a V-neck but with a little more flare.

I would add some chocolate brown accessories to make the color feel a little more autumnal, but this is a stand-alone piece that doesn’t need too much added to it.

The dress is $565 at The Fold and comes in U.S. sizes 0-12.
