When asked to recall his fabled sparring session with Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua admitted that he was incentivised to knock ‘The Gypsy King’ out.

The two British heavyweights are now due to collide later this year, having completed their respective warm-up fights in July and seemingly agreed to a date and location.

Fury fulfilled his end of the bargain by stopping a 46-year-old Mariusz Wach in seven rounds, while Joshua suffered two first-round knockdowns before halting Kristian Prenga in the following frame.

Based on these performances, most will make Fury a sizable favourite but, in reality, neither fighter is thought to be anywhere near his prime.

Rather, the best time for them to collide would have been around five or six years ago, when Fury was the WBC champion and ‘AJ’ had reclaimed his unified crown.

It was back in 2010, though, that the pair first encountered one another, with Fury in the development phase of his pro career and Joshua having just won an ABA title.

Back then, Joshua had read in a copy of Boxing News magazine that Fury was offering a glittering prize to whoever could knock him out in sparring and, just as luck would have it, he was presented with an opportunity to do so at his amateur boxing club.

In an interview reposted by The Stomping Ground, Joshua revealed that he did pursue the knockout but was ultimately unsuccessful.

“I remember reading: Tyson Fury’s going around different gyms sparring and, if anyone can knock him out, they get to keep his Rolex.

“I’m hungry … I was hungrier back then. So I remember him popping in the gym, and then coach says, ‘All right, Josh – you’re sparring’. Me and him just had a straight war, so what I learned about Fury was that we’ve got the same heart – we’re both fighting people and we go to war.

“I didn’t manage to knock him out; we both hit each other with some big shots.”

If Joshua and Fury do indeed meet later this year, fans will soon discover whether ‘AJ’ could earn the knockout in a professional environment.

A new football academy, CampGee Football Academy, has been officially launched in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, with a focus on discovering and developing young football talents.

The academy announced its establishment in a statement on Saturday, September 19, 2026, saying it was created to provide young players with the right environment to improve and pursue careers in football.

CampGee Football Academy said its development programme will cover the technical, tactical, physical, emotional and psychological aspects of the game, both on and off the pitch.

Based in Uyo, the academy said it will provide opportunities for young footballers to train, compete and develop their abilities in a professional environment.

The academy also said it has assembled experienced coaches and backroom staff with expertise in areas including medical care and psychology to support the players’ development.

According to the statement, CampGee’s vision goes beyond football, as it also aims to raise disciplined, confident and responsible young people with the character and mindset needed for success in football and life.

The academy said it hopes to contribute to grassroots football development in Nigeria by creating opportunities for young players and helping them build their careers.

Meanwhile, SportsRation reports that CampGee Football Academy will participate in the NLO Playoffs in Umuahia, Abia State.

The playoffs are scheduled to begin on Monday, September 21, 2026, giving the newly established academy an early opportunity to test its players against other teams.

With its launch and participation in the NLO Playoffs, CampGee Football Academy is set to begin its journey in Nigerian football.

Asian Games 2026 Live Updates: India’s campaign at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 will gather pace on Sunday, September 20, with athletes competing across several sports. India will be in action in teqball, shooting, cricket, hockey, badminton, table tennis and wushu. There will also be medal opportunities for the Indian contingent.

Quimcy Dsouza has two medal chances

Teqball player Quimcy Joaquim Dsouza will have two opportunities to win a medal for India on Sunday. She will first compete in the women’s singles bronze-medal match against Japan’s Yuina Sakamoto. Quimcy will then team up with Mohamed Anas Imran Beg in the mixed doubles bronze-medal match. They will face Vietnam’s Hoang Minh Tan Nguyen and Gia Nghi Trinh.

The Indian pair had lost to the Vietnamese combination in the quarterfinals. They will now have another chance to finish on the podium.

Shooters eye medals

India will also have medal hopes in the women’s 10m air rifle competition. Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Uttam Maskar and Vidarsa K Vinod will compete in the event. The individual qualification and women’s team medal event will begin at 6:15 AM IST. The individual final is scheduled for later in the morning, subject to qualification.

India women face Bangladesh in semifinal

The Indian women’s cricket team will take on Bangladesh in the second semifinal of the women’s T20 competition at 10:30 AM IST. India will look to reach the final and continue its bid to defend the gold medal it won at the 2022 Asian Games.

Hockey teams begin campaigns

India’s men’s and women’s hockey teams will also start their Asian Games campaigns on Sunday. The Indian women’s team will face Uzbekistan in its Pool B match at 7:30 AM IST. The men’s team will then take on Indonesia in its Pool A opener at 11:30 AM IST.

Badminton, table tennis and wushu

Well, that’s not a first half that many were expecting.

Florida State currently leads Alabama 21-13 in a lightning-delayed matchup. After first seeing kickoff pushed back, the game was suspended with 2:36 left in the first half immediately following an Alabama touchdown.

From the first drive on, Florida State hasn’t looked anything like it has in the first two games of the season — a major compliment. The Seminoles have consistently generated negative plays and pressure in the backfield, shutting down Alabama on third down while excelling on the offensive side of the ball, especially through the air.
