An airport owner from the West Midlands has been named as the second Briton killed in a plane crash in the Swiss Alps.

Anthony Hall, known as Tony, was on board a Cirrus SR22T propeller-powered aircraft when it came down near the resort of Leukerbad in the southern state of Valais on September 15, killing him and two others. 

The businessman was managing director of construction and recycling company Pegasus, based in Lye, near Stourbridge.

Described by his family as an ‘incredible dad’, Mr Hall also owned Wolverhampton Halfpenny Green Airport, located in Staffordshire.

Officials investigating the fatal crash say the plane took off from Sion airport in the Rhône Valley and crashed high into a mountain slope around 10 minutes later.

Firefighters, police and Valais Rescue Organisation teams raced to the scene in helicopters.

A probe is underway by the Swiss Transportation Safety Board and Valais Police, while the Office of the Attorney General are also investigating, but the cause of the crash remains unknown.

Mr Hall’s family said they were ‘completely heartbroken by the loss of a truly wonderful husband, devoted father and much-loved man’.

In a statement, they added: ‘Tony was an exceptional businessman who achieved great things in the construction/haulage industry, and his commitment to succeed and progress never faltered.

‘He was first and foremost a loving husband and an incredible dad to his daughter, whose family meant everything to him.

‘We will miss him immensely and will remember him as the kind, caring, generous, determined and fantastic character he was.’

Asking for privacy in the wake of their loss, the family said: ‘Our hearts go out to those who also lost their lives in this terrible tragedy.’ 

Former MP for Stourbridge, Suzanne Webb on Thursday said: ‘Tony will always be a legend to me. What he achieved in helping build Pegasus into the success it is today, alongside the other directors, was remarkable.

‘But beyond the business, Tony was great fun to be around and, quite simply, a genuinely good person. I will miss his quick wit and humour.’

Ms Webb also praised Mr Hall’s charity work including his support for the Poppy Appeal and Military Vehicle Parade.

‘Having served in the armed forces, he gave his support willingly,’ she added.

‘His life was tragically cut short, but what he achieved after leaving the army was truly inspiring, and he did it with a passion I was always in awe of.’

A statement posted to Pegasus’s Facebook page read: ‘In memory of Tony Hall. It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Tony Hall, founder of Pegasus.

‘Tony built Pegasus from the ground up through hard work, determination and genuine commitment to the business and the people within it.

‘He built a strong team and a business with values and solid foundations, which he was incredibly proud of.

‘Although a prominent business figure, he was first and foremost a loving husband and an incredible dad to his daughter, whose family meant everything to him.

The Foreign Office has said it is ‘providing support to the families of two British nationals who died in Switzerland’.

‘Our thoughts remain with the families during this difficult time,’ it added.

Last week, engineering boss Owain Davies, 55, was the first Briton to be named as a victim of the crash.

Father-of-two Mr Davies was described by his firm Amcanu as an ‘unstoppable force’ and a ‘very good friend’.

He took over the running of the company in Burry Port, South Wales, in 2000, after it was founded by his father Spencer Davies OBE in 1975.

The company said: ‘He was a familiar face on the factory floor, an unstoppable force, a mentor and, for many people who have spent a significant part of their working lives at Amcanu a very good friend.

‘Above everything else, he was a husband, father and grandfather.’

The tribute went on to describe Mr Davies as ‘a real character’ who was ‘determined, strong-willed, spirited, reflective and immensely proud’.

It continued: ‘There was another side of Owain that not everybody knew about. He loved flying.

‘Owain was an experienced pilot and aviation was a genuine passion – technically, socially and simply for the freedom and enjoyment it gave him.

‘He had a large circle of friends within the aviation community and would fly his helicopter whenever the opportunity arose.

‘He didn’t make a great show of it. In fact, many people who knew him professionally may never have known how important aviation was to him.

‘At the time of the accident, Owain was travelling as a passenger, alongside two of his closest friends.

‘The circumstances of his death are devastating, but flying was something that brought Owain enormous happiness throughout his life.

‘Owain was admired. He was respected. He was sometimes formidable. He was enormously caring.

‘He was a husband, a dad, a grandad, a son, a mentor, a leader and a friend… And he will be missed more than we can possibly express.’

Amcanu added that Mr Davies was ‘a proud Welshman and Welsh speaker’ and had been a trustee of Wales Air Ambulance Charity since 2017.

The charity’s chair of trustees, Dr Kyle Jacques, said he had made a ‘significant contribution to the Wales Air Ambulance and the vital service we provide’.

‘Owain was a valued colleague and friend, whose loyalty and generosity of spirit meant so much to us. He will be greatly missed,’ he added.

In a statement, the force said: ‘Shortly after 4pm, for reasons yet to be determined, the aircraft collided with the northern slope of a mountain in the Fluhalp area of ​​Leukerbad.

‘Signs of smoke were subsequently reported in the region.’

Hospital chiefs in County Durham have agreed to review up to a further 4,500 breast cancer cases after failings including delayed diagnoses and unnecessary surgeries were found.

Hundreds of patients suffered harm under County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, according to a review of cases dating back to 2023.

The BBC has spoken to multiple women affected by the failings, including one who said she felt “mutilated” and the trust’s mistakes were “absolutely unforgivable”.

Ahead of agreeing to expand the review to cases dating back to 2015, members of the trust’s board offered “sincere” apologies for the failings and harm caused.

At an extraordinary meeting of the board held in Durham, board chair Alison Marshall said: “I would like to offer a sincere apology to all the women and their families who have been affected by the failings in our breast services.

“I can’t imagine the impact that has had.”

She said they could “not turn back the clock” but would be “open, honest and transparent” about the failings.

Chief nurse Gill Hunt told the board concerns were first raised in 2015 after a “service reconfiguration” and loss of breast surgical trainee posts.

Over the following years patients and bodies such as the Northern Cancer Alliance, Care Quality Commission and NHS England raised multiple issues, she said.

The key “themes” included treatment “not aligned to best practice”, excessive surgery and delayed diagnosis, she said.

The trust’s breast surgery lookback review began in April 2025 by examining cases between January 2023 and February 2025.

Hunt said 538 cases had been reviewed so far with 321 having experienced some form of harm, including one death.

An NBA sports star has said that GTA 6 will cause sports leagues to ‘plummet’ in November since everyone will be too busy playing video games.

It’s impossible to overstate how big Grand Theft Auto 6 is going to be when it arrives in November. There’s a reason that most publishers are keen to avoid launching their games so close to it, which is why the release schedules are so packed in September and October.

Even celebrities like Millie Bobby Brown and Lewis Hamilton have publicly expressed excitement for GTA 6, with the latter saying he’ll be cancelling work plans just to play the game at launch.

More recently, NBA athlete Steven Adams mentioned GTA 6 during a press conference, saying that the game will have a detrimental effect on all professional sports once it drops. And while his statement got a bit of a chuckle from the crowd, he’s not really joking.

‘I will say, you guys should anticipate November,’ said Adams, who plays for American basketball team the Houston Rockets. ‘The performance of the league… league wide… GTA is dropping.

‘So look at NFL, look at all the leagues, and watch them, plummet, mate. Just for the month of November, performance is gonna go down.’ (Adams is from New Zealand and his dad is from Bristol, if you were wondering.)

He added that even coaching scouts will be ‘horrendous’ but assures things will pick back up by December, once everybody has finished the game.

Considering GTA 5 is the best selling traditional video game ever made, at over 220 million sales, it’s not an exaggeration that GTA 6’s launch will be a cultural touchstone in not just video games but entertainment in general.

Based on pre-order figures alone, GTA 6 is estimated to make roughly half of GTA 5’s lifetime revenue in just a week. So, it’s perfectly believable that sports athletes everywhere will be spending every opportunity they can to play GTA 6.

The game’s popularity is also being taken advantage of for PR stunts. In August, word spread of a US army battalion using the game to encourage re-enlistment.

This wouldn’t be the first time a popular video game disrupted athletes’ performance either. Back in 2018, The Washington Post reported on how there were concerns of athletes becoming addicted to Fortnite, which was still in its infancy at the time and rapidly exploding in popularity thanks to its battle royale mode.

In other GTA 6 related news, exclusive T-shirts that were only available at the Tokyo Game Show last week have been spotted on eBay, where they are being sold for as much as £182.

The shirts in question depict the four PlayStation buttons with the GTA 6 colour scheme as part of a partnership between Sony and Rockstar. These shirts weren’t even being sold; they were free gifts for anyone who attended the GTA 6 booth at the show.

The pub’s owners describe it as a ‘strength of community spirit’

A Cambridgeshire pub that’s a “favourite spot” to visit for locals has been named as one of the best pubs of the year. The Great British Pub awards celebrates all of the best boozers on offer across the UK.

Celebrating the 27th year of the awards, the winners of its 17 categories have been announced for 2026. Taking the crown for the Admiral Taverns Pub of the Year is The Crown in Fordham, Ely.

In 2023, the pub had to close due to a devastating fire. However, with a mission to get it up and running again, the owners were determined to “rise once more”.

The pub was taken over by new management in 2025 and since it reopened, it has become a “vibrant hub created with the community”, as stated on the pub website. Today, it has a loyal customer base behind it and has become a “strength of community spirit”.

The pub offers a menu filled with “smoky goodness”, with a lot of great meat options on offer. Menu options range from buttermilk chicken thigh bites and smoked pork belly burn ends to battered king prawns and smoked mozzarella sticks. There are also a wide range of baked potatoes on offer with lots of different toppings.

The pub also serves a range of cask ales, regular beers and other refreshing drinks. The Crown is also a hit with locals, as one reviewer said it was a “favourite spot”.

Another person who visited the pub with friends for a Sunday roast said she was “not disappointed” with the food and its portions. Staff at the pub are also praised for being “super friendly and helpful”.

Michael Schumacher’s wife, Corinna, has admitted that she cries to herself in the car, when she hears Paul Abdul’s song Rush Rush. The 1991 hit holds a special place in the hearts of the couple as it was their song in the early days of their relationship.

Corinna has offered a rare insight into the family’s life following the horrific skiing accident Schumacher suffered 13 years ago. Corinna remains the Formula 1 legends primary carer, supportered by a team of nurses.

She has opened the door to their world for a new documentary, Schumacher ’94: The Birth of a Legend. Corinna has been protective of her husband’s privacy, and it marks the first time she has spoken publicly about their life since her involvement in the 2021 Netflix documentary Schumacher.

“That was our song back then,” she said, recalling the early days of her relationship with Schumacher. “When I hear it today and I’m in the car, I cry to myself.”

Corinna also opened up on her mother’s disapproval. “My mother was completely against it,” she said.

“Michael was always at the go-kart track and was always pushing others out. My mother always said: “Look at Schumacher! They have a go-kart track at home, they throw out anyone who does anything wrong, and now he’s throwing people out!

“My mother would say: ‘Schumacher, Schumacher.’”

In the 2021 documentary Schumacher, Corinna provided some insight into Schumacher’s condition “Michael is here. Different, but he’s here, and that gives us strength, I find,’ she said. ‘He still shows me how strong he is every day.

“We live together at home. We do therapy. We do everything we can to make Michael better and to make sure he’s comfortable. And to simply make him feel our family, our bond.

“And no matter what, I will do everything I can. We all will. We’re trying to carry on as a family, the way Michael liked it and still does. And we are getting on with our lives.

“‘Private is private’, as he always said. It’s very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible. Michael always protected us, and now we are protecting Michael.”

Anti-migrant activist Daniel Thomas has been arrested over a video appearing to show him slashing at a boat in the English Channel with a knife.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said a 37-year-old man of no fixed abode had been arrested after a “boat that had an emergency responder on board” was damaged in the Channel.

He was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage with intent to endanger life and endangering the safety of a ship on Wednesday. He remains in custody.

The force previously said it was looking at the video which Thomas, known to his supporters as Danny Tommo, had live-streamed on social media on Tuesday.

A French coastguard official was on board when Thomas appeared to slash at it. Some 50 migrants who had travelled in the boat from Normandy had already been taken to Dover for processing.

Far-right activist Tommy Robinson shared a video of Thomas’s arrest on social media late on Wednesday, claiming it was in relation to an attempt to “stop the invasion of our country”.

Thomas organised anti-migrant protests in Dover and Portsmouth in early September which saw roads blocked by hundreds of demonstrators, including groups of men in black balaclavas.

He has been rallying support for “mass resistance” to “take our country back” through his venture Patriot Platform, which he founded earlier this year.

“Last night, a 37-year-old man, of no fixed abode, was arrested on suspicion of destroying ships or fixed platforms or endangering their safety under Section 11 of the Aviation and Maritime Security Act 1990, criminal damage, criminal damage with intent to endanger life, and conduct endangering ships, structures or individuals under Section 58 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995.
